        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ I have some exciting news.  About a month ago, Moeed Tariq, the creative director of The Missing Slate-- a South Asian arts and lifestyle magazine-- contacted me, asking if I wanted to be the featured artist for the summer issue.  He first noticed me because of my Bunnie Antoinette piece; and he thought my work in general would fit the theme of the issue, which would be revolution (in honor of the Arab Spring) and women's rights.  He chose my Tanit painting for the cover, which seemed a perfect choice given that she's an ancient North African goddess.<br /><br />Inside is an interview with me, and you can read the issue for free online here (you do nee ]]></media:text>

I wrote a snide little blurb on my FB page, but I feel compelled to write a longer entry here.<br /><br />When I heard last year that Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first Twilight movie, had been fired by the Hollywood boy's club, and Chris Weitz, the hack responsible for foisting The Golden Compass upon the world, had been put in her place, I knew this meant the sequel would be crap.  And I was right!<br /><br />New Moon is a big snooze.  It's superficially pretty, but there is nothing engaging about it.  Even ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ My deadline for Astonishing Adventures magazine has been extended again, and yet again- now it's on the 31st, so I expect to spend my Halloween painting and writing.  Plus I have jobs to do for Glencoe (a branch of McGraw Hill), which is cool- work is always nice.<br /><br />A girl still has to relax, though, and when I'm having a bit of downtime, I like to read through my favorite comics/graphic novels.  My two favorite print series are Bill Willingham's "Fables" and Eric Shanower's "Age of Bronze" (with an honorable mention to Kurt Busiek's "Astro City").  I'm also a big fan of Guy Delisle and Jean Dufaux (although the latter is really hard to find i ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Comic-con went well.  It was INCREDIBLY hectic, but here are a few highlights:<br /><br />-After recovering from the Traffic Jam from Hell, on Friday morning I stopped by the booth of "The Chosen One" (a hilarious animated movie which is a must-see for any Futurama fan), because I saw the name "Chris Sarandon" beckoning me like a... giant beckoning thing.  I started chatting with the guys at the booth about Chris (they talked about how great it was to work with him, and I tried not to respond with fangirlish squeeing), and I decided to show them my Prince Humperdinck pic.  They were delighted, and took a photo of it to send to Chris.  I was thrilled!   ]]></media:text>
