I'm all settled down in the US with Misha. We've settled into a nice routine and it's starting to feel like home. We're starting to look for apartments to move out to, and we're looking at some really nice ones. The idea of chilling at a pool while I'm working from home very much appeals to me.

July is looking to be a busy month for us. We'll be attending the Austin devMeet, dragging along `MegMcMuffin and *wazzdakka with us, watching Wicked when it hits Austin and seeing Tool in San Antonio with some more friends, and I'll be hitting Vegas next week or so to see my boss who's in the US for a holiday.

In October I have to fly back to Australia to see the family and my work, maybe get a dental check up and then hopefully fly back here. I have to sort out my tickets because I'm due to fly out 4 days after my visa expires, and if I overstay my visa then I won't be let back in, which would make things difficult. So I need to move the tickets.

For the last week or so, this journal has been relatively negative. As I said to Misha, it's a snapshot in time - a capturing of a single moment in the flow of life as it has been for the last 3 years, and will be for as long as I can manage.

People are, I think, solitary creatures. As much as some people crave socialization, even the most outgoing people need a break, and some time alone. Relationships are hard work, for that reason.

We're all isolated inside our own minds, incapable of knowing another being as well as we know ourselves. In this sense, we're all utterly alone. So we connect with people, we share their lives. We communicate using language and our 5 senses - seeing someone's body language, smelling their perfume, hearing them speak, holding hands or man-hugs, and in some relationships, kissing. This is how we know try to know people, and even at the most rich level of communication, it's imperfect.

Misha and I have a long distance relationship, probably the longest distance relationship you can have. We're literally half a world apart. We only have text and words to communicate. While technology can bridge some of the gap, like webcams, it's not the same. So our relationship is impaired, beyond the original crippling of a "normal" relationship.

There have been bad times, some very bad times. There have also been some great times, wonderful times. I think we've done pretty fucking well, when it's all said and done. True, a week ago, I wouldn't have done it over. But today, I would. And for most of our relationship, I would.

If someone asked me "Tim, I'm thinking about a long term relationship with this girl on the other side of the world, should I do it?" my answer would be a resounding "NO". If that person then replied "Fuck you, I'm doing it anyway, I fucking love this chick", then, "rock on

". It takes a special kind of person and a special kind of love to stand the test of 16,000kms.

No job in America. I goofed up and thought I got further than I did.

I'll probably be contracting for my current employer anyway, so that's good.

I fly out of Perth on the night of the 20th/21st of April, heading to Austin, Texas via LA and Chicago. It will be my longest flight so far.

Sold most of my stuff, still need to sell my car. ~~If anyone in Perth wants a cheap but somewhat ugly Skyline, drop me a line.~~ If anyone in Perth wants a Skyline for scrap/parts (it don't run lol), let me know.

Long story short, she's shaving her head for public spectacle, hoping to get money for women's rights in Zimbabwe. Women rock, you want them to have rights, right?

Also, given the state of the Zimbabwean economy, you can make some people millionaires, for the cost of going without lunch today. That's pretty awesome to me.

I believe the last place we left off was I had just been notified that I was to leave my apartment and find alternative living arrangements, and Misha and I had decided to bump up my move by several months based on the fact she got a job with 3M.

So, last weekend I did the move - I spent all week prior packing, and come Saturday morning, still had about a quarter of my junk unpacked. Saturday saw me do the move, and we got all my furniture out in one big trailer load.

I played Santa Claus and gave away a significant portion of my junk to relatives. My dad got 2 of my computers and a monitor, my brother got some art books and my printer, and my mother got a bunch of furniture and my other monitor.

Sunday saw me spending the whole day cleaning my apartment, and I handed the keys back yesterday. I am now living with my mum in a tiny room, which suits me fine. It's refreshing to know that I only have 2 regular payments coming out of my bank account - rent to my mother and my car loan repayments.

Misha and I are going fantastically well - our relationship is probably the healthiest it's been, ever. She starts work next week, so go wish her luck. I'm going to miss her, as this will cut down our talking time from about 6-7 hours a day (on and off while I work) to about 2-3 hours a day.

I am still planning on moving to the US, and actually have a job interview lined up (*coughcough*) for a job in the US, which I hope will help me get a visa without having to marry Misha (which I don't want to do just because it's the wrong reason), however I'm not sure how that will go.

There are artists on dA who only want to hear compliments.

These artists do not seek to grow. They do not seek to learn. They do not seek wisdom, they seek fame and accolades and envy, whether it's deserved or not.

Enter Trashrock.

Trashrock is not special. Trashrock is not unique.

Trashrock is a club for critique, a shot in the arm for the literary community on dA.

"A tangible avenue of literary improvement, advice and constructive critique that allows you, as a writer, to slowly evolve at your own discretion and by your own election. Ideally, membership will consist of aspiring writers, critics, literary theorists and such who want to meet others who can offer them alternate insights into their work."

Trashrock is accepting submissions right now. So if you have the cajones to have your writing put under the microscope, if you want to grow and improve yourself as a writer and an artist, then submit, and hope you'll be picked.

It's probably about time I make a personal journal about what's been happening in my life, if only to sort it out mentally for myself by writing it down.

I'll go in reverse chronological order, and cover events that happened more recently first.

First, I had the living crap frightened out of me a few days ago when some girl nearly walked out in front of an SUV. I was too stunned to warn her, and my brain was shrieking to yell at her but I couldn't.
Luckily the guy in the car managed to stop in time, but damn. It really made me question my ability to think fast in a critical situation.

Secondly, due to recent events, I may find myself moving to the US sooner than I thought, like a lot sooner. I might be making the move the Austin at the start of February!

Which is good, because a few weeks ago I was evicted, and my car decided to give up on life. I have until January 12 to find somewhere to live, and if I do happen to move the the US, I'll just bum around my mum's place for a month before flying out, trying to sell all my stuff.

So, that's all that's fit to print.

How are you guys, what's going on with you?

Ok, the cat is officially out of the bag. Misha has a job at 3M, which she is starting in January, and considering I have no lease from January onwards, as soon as we can get all the visa paperwork done, I'll be heading over to live in Austin. At this stage we're hesitantly saying April, not February.

I'm very excited to finally have my chance to help the team at dA and start giving back to this site.

It's been a long and rocky road to get here. dA has given me valuable feedback on my art, a wonderful girlfriend, friends I will cherish forever, the drive to learn as much about my career as possible, and the ability to help others with my knowledge.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys, and I hope I don't let anyone down.
