I haven't updated this in a very long time. I know. Shame on me.

For those of you that don't know, I'm a third of the way done with my second year at SCAD. This past quarter I officially declared myself a Fibers major and could not be happier. Thus far, I love the program and the faculty. Fibers is so intriguing, and I've learn so many new skills from weaving to felting to repeat pattern techniques. I'm eager to take more classes within the department. Although I'm a Fibers major, I have not totally given up on Graphic Design. I plan to use my free electives to take Graphic Design classes, at least Typography and Web Design.

This account is a poor record of all the art I've done recently, and I will attempt to remedy this. I've got a whole year's worth of art to draw from and will be posting my favorite things up on here. Bear with me, though, as this will take some time.

Let's see...

My first year at SCAD has been going great thus far. Right now I'm in a quandary over my major. I just might forsake good ole Graphic Design for Fibers. Most of you probably don't know what Fibers is, but it is a very broad major that covers most anything that has to do with fabric and pattern. If I major in it, I'll go into the textile design category and design the patterns and such on fabric. Yea, it's pretty awesome.

This thing desperately needs an update. So, when I get a bit of elusive time, look for some new stuff from this past Winter Quarter and the current Spring Quarter.

Here's what I've learned:
- how to effectively use an exacto knife/utility knife, especially to cut out circles
- craftsmanship may cost you major points
- charcoal is my new favorite medium
- economy is the one design element that's really hard to describe
- it doesn't matter how much time you put into something, it's the quality that counts
- random photo shoots are great stress relievers
- "everything will be okay"
- anything considered weird or unusual can be attributed to the fact that I'm in art school

My colleges portfolios have all been mailed off as well as my applications & the FAFSA. All that's left in financial aid. It's a big relief.

A bunch of us have started a sewing project. We're going to make regency era dresses to wear to Prom. So, I've been working on fitting the pattern and trying to find the perfect fabric. Yea for artistic endeavors!

Sr. Adelaide has us doing an oil self-portrait. I'm probably going to be the first to start, but that's okay since I'm usually the last to finish.
It was great. awesome. amazing. pick your synonym. To sum it up in the words of Angela, "Best week EVER!" First of all, Savannah is a beautiful city, and I know everyone says that, but it truly is. There are so many old building, beautiful squares, and cute little shops, in fact my mom kept comparing it to New Orleans and Austin. In my opinion it is historic like New Orleans, but clean and interesting like Austin. Second, I met so many great people!!! My roommate and everyone else in our group made the week hilarious. (I miss you guys!) Not only that, but everyone there was so creative and interesting. Third, the atmosphere there was so creative and enriching. The school and instructors were really passionate and dedicated to art. Anyway, it was great. Sorry for the redundancy.

Gosh, life's been extremely chaotic recently.

It's been confirmed. We're moving to Las Vegas, or actually a suburb of Las Vegas. We even put a down payment on the house we're building yesterday. But don't worry, although my dad's starting this summer, we aren't going until next summer. That way Jonathan and I can finish school. I suppose I shouldn't be that upset about all this, considering I'm going away to college anyway. You guys just better come visit me. Flights to Las Vegas are cheap.

In addition, I'm leaving for Seattle on Wednesday? I think? I'm not exactly certain. So I think we're there for less than a week. I'm not certain about that either. But I'll be home for about a week. After that it's the SCAD thing, which I'm getting nervous about. I haven't heard from them since we sent our payment. Then it's Buffalo for at least two weeks because it's looking like we're taking that 3rd week and going to Las Vegas. I'll be back home at the end of July, at which time I'm probably going to get my wisdom teeth out. So, yea I feel very overwelmed.

In between house hunting, my mom's been doing hair like crazy, so I've been stuck in the house all day. Which you would think would lead to productivity. I have a few pictures I took in this nifty vintage store in Austin that I want to post. And of course that infamous pastel drawing. I'll post them eventually.

So, a lot of neat things have happened in the last few days.

On Thursday, I dished out $250 on a brand new mp3 player!! It is a Samsung YP-Z5, or, as I have affectionately named him, "Zeke." It's a tiny 4GB player, rival to the ipod nano, and plays both music and pictures. He hasn't left my side since Thursday. I even took him to the Shakespeare thing Friday at LSU.

Which was really cool by the way. The guy had a British accent and was a great speaker. It was interesting to hear more about the Globe. I was worried the lecture would overlap with the tour I took in London, but it did not a bit. He talked about the modern aspects of the Globe, what it was like to direct plays there, and what he learned from directing there. Very interesting.

Yesterday, I got a packet in the mail from SCAD. I'M OFFICALLY ADMITTED INTO THE SCAD SUMMER SEMINAR!! I'm very, very excited. Once I pay and sent in a huge packet full of paperwork and housing stuff, I'll find out if I got into the workshops I signed up for. I really hope I do...

About an hour ago I finished my pastel landscape for art class! A proud moment indeed. Come Monday I get to show Sr. Adelaide, and probably have to tweak it to death.

I hope everyone's having a lovely holiday!

Well, it's Christmas again, and you know what that means.... one of the most hectic times of the year. Midterms are soon to start and teachers are cramming in everything possible before they do. Doesn't leave much room for the Christmas spirt, now does it? Our tree isn't even up yet.

On a happier note, I got my PSAT scores back today, and I did very well. Hopefully 97 percentile is enough to get me (and Elizabeth) into the Semifinalist thing. Oh, and Melissa is a genius.

As to art... I found this nifty Photoshop knockoff on my laptop, and have been editing a few pictures. They're pretty much ready to post, but I have a few composition in my head I would like to try and I would like to post them all at once. So (as I make another empty promise) maybe sometime over the holidays I'll post stuff. Though, I probably need to write that chapter for the war first.

Now that the first stage of our Latin project is over, I have free time. We had to create an ancient civilization and present it to the class. I really hope we are one of the top three because then we get nifty advancements in art, science & technology.

I'm so excited. I've even made two t-shirts, which I'll be posting pictures of eventually. For all of you that don't know, Serenity is a movie based of the tv show Firefly by Joss Whedon. (therefore it is awesome!!!) It's kind of a space western. (Don't laugh it's really shiney!) Anyway, everyone should go see it so it will be a sucess!
