I took a short course in photography at Southbank Institute of Technology over the past 4 weeks and one of the things my teacher mentioned was image size... I'd never really given much thought to how my shots looked to other people but hearing about the monitors the other budding photographers used in my class made me stop and think.

I have a 20" widescreen LCD monitor and I run it at 1680x1050 (I don't wear glasses yet!). The majority of people in my class had 15" - 19" square screens and ran at 1024 or less. Needless to say, I was shocked and I think a lightbulb appeared over my head.

So I changed my monitor to 1280x768 and had a flick through my dA gallery. OH MY GOD my cats looked like monsters - from what you could see of them on the screen without scrolling... How awful. Anyway, so I was of two opinions. One that didn't care, because the image size was perfect for my screen (and therefore my viewing), and one that kicked myself for being so selfish, especially to people still on dialup who, not only have to wait forever for the image to load (if they even did) and then have to scroll around the screen to see the picture which completely killed the impact.

From now on my images will be 800x500andsomething or so and although they look miniscule on my screen, I'll still have my raw and full size images on my computer, external hdd and backup DVD's to look at. This isn't too big still, is it? I had a squiz at the sizes of some of =wazabees images and they're in the 800sx500s and he's got everything pretty well sussed :)

I've also gone through and resized my latest pics (the macro's) but don't much care about the rest of them since I'm not 100% happy with them anyway. However, if you would like to see an image of mine smaller, please let me know and I'll resize and re-upload.

Apologies for my snobbery and it won't happen again :D

So, the more I thought about this, the angrier I got with myself so I just went and re-uploaded pretty much all the images I took with the 400D. I feel so much better :)

Well... I just went out this arvo and bought a Canon 40D body :D I've only had my 400D since last september but I really wanted something more. The 400D is such an awesome camera but I think for me, it was time to upgrade :D And woah my gosh what an upgrade. The specs are very very similar between the 2 cameras but I just got the new one all set up and took a few quick shots on some different settings and you can just tell it's a much better built camera. It feels so sturdy and ... eeeeeee I love it already :D I'm gonna have to do some wrist weights or something though because it's a bit bigger and heavier than the 400D!

Soo..... anyone wanna buy a 400D (body only) for AU$700 or so? :D

I'm going for a drive!! :D

Well I guess a couple of you are wondering wtf happened to me... It's a long story... Short version: I left my partner of three years in April.. I guess one of the main reasons is that I found someone who matched me even better... It sounds cruel saying it like that, but one thing I eventually realised is that if you're not happy, you need to do something about it.. That's all I'm going to say about that...

So.. unable to find a suitable place of residence that would allow me and my two kitties, I moved back to my parents' place.. Gah. It's not easy.. I'm more often than not at Rhys' place..

Apart from living here (okay it's not that bad - no rent, free electricity, free net, free food...), life has been pretty great. Been busy with Rhys.. Went up to Mt Tamborine for the weekend after my bday (sept 13th) so I may have some pics from then to upload.. I'm also moving up in the world at work.. yadda yadda yadda...

Anyhoo, that's about all from me atm.. Now you know why I haven't been on much... This should change soon...

  1. I am arachnophobic. Irrationally so. I know it's an irrational fear but I can't help it. (It's not a fear of them biting. It's their walk - their legs *GAH*!) I also have a "spider sense" of sorts. I can actually tell when a spider is lurking in the room.


  2. Having said that, I was just about to say how much I love all animals. Make that, all animals EXCEPT spiders and especially felines ^_^ (ESPECIALLY my felines - Karma and Cocoa).


  3. I can see the Gabba from my house.. When there are games on, we definately know it :D


  4. I love music. I play piano, guitar, bass, sax, clarinet and I sing... Basically, anything I can get my hands on I can figure out (I've only had lessons for the saxophone and clarinet).


  5. 5. I want to be a professional singer. Badly.


  6. I have two tattoos. One is a paw print just above my right butt cheek ^_^ and the other is on my left upper arm. It's from Alien vs Predator - the symbol that the Predator engraves on himself and on the chick at the end. (pic is in my scraps).


  7. I want many many more tattoos. I'm thinking my next ones will be a treble clef on my right ankle and a bass clef on my left. Hrmmm....


  8. I fucking hate the heat. Right now, I'm dying.

  15. I read constantly. If I could read and drive I'd be happy, and read and sleep at the same time - that would make my life. I started reading Stephen King novels when I was in grade 3 or 4 and I've since bought all of his books. I love horror and thriller works, but in the past few years I've been getting a lot into Sci-Fi, cyberpunk, etc. No fantasy thanks. William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, Richard Morgan, Phillip Dick, etc. Oh, and Robert Anton Wilson ^_^ 232323 :D


  16. I tend to waffle on a lot and my stories are often disjointed. Especially if I'm telling a story I'm really into. I get excited.

We're going to Indy tonight to see Porsche racing and hopefully Skaife (oh god I hope I see Skaifie ^_^) and I'm taking my camera, so if the rain holds out there might be some cooler than cool racing shots. (or a million blurry shots of lights or something that I have to ditch) hehe
