Next Events
We've been talking about them a lot. And now we want to make them real, the next events.

The next big event shall be the devMeeting in Lausanne which is going to be organized by =zunder, ~b4silio and =digitalfrrreak. Hopefully they can give us more information about it, soon.

Another devMeeting is going to be in Winterthur. This is going to be a funMeeting which can take place spontaneously. We only need someone who wants to put himself/herself in the position of the "head organiser". Please write a note or comment.

We haven't been as much people as expected. At the beginning I was quite a bit disappointed. Was it beacuse of the day? Or was it because of the time?

dAmn is alive

For a long time we've had our channel #Switzerland running more or less in the background. We've had a time where sometimes a couple of people has been talking in there. But usually the channel seemed dead.

This week we tried to relaunch the channel and bring new life into it. And today, I proudly announce that the Swiss Chat-Room is back to life

The channel is still improving and the operators are working at some interesting "tools".
Want to know more about it? Join the channel and talk to the Operators. It's =fUcKiTaLL and =tendence that are to mainly responsible for the channel and its "inner life"

The Swiss Summer devMeet in Basel - The meeting contest
As usual we've also been doing a photography contest at the meeting in Basel. Since there haven't been too many people taking part at the meeting we're not expecting a huge amount of pictures but still we don't want to just forget this contest.

The topic was vehicle
The contest is only for pictures that have been taken at July 22.
It's allowed to submit two pictures.
The deadline for the contest will be Friday night.
Write us a note so that we can post a thumb of your picture here.


Next "big" contest
After finishing the "vehicle-contest" we want to launch a big contest that is open for every member of *switzerland. If you already have an idea what the topic could be like, please let us know. Ideas and inspiration is always appreciated.

Connecting People Results

Yes, here they are. We finally counted the votes and present you the winner of the Connecting People Contest. But first I want to thank you. A big thank you goes to everyone who submitted a work to our contest. And another big thank you goes to everyone who answered our note and voted for someone. I was really happy to see that we got a quite big feedback. After the last contest I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't expect too much. So I was even more surprised.
And in a way this is an important message to us. We see that you're still interested in keep this community running and appreciate the work we do for you.

Contest Voting
Let's give it a second try. Last week we wanted to start the voting for the Connecting People voting. Obviously this didn't work because it was exactly at the Guatemala Day. It wasn't possible to changet he journal entry untill the bug has been found by one of the dA-programmer. I hope everything works now as it should.

About the contest:
The topic of the contest was "Connecting People". There are no more rules. The idea was to find your own interpretation and visualize it.

How to vote:
We'll send each member a note with the subject "Vote - Deviant". What you do is replace "Deviant" with the username of the creator from the Deviation you want to vote for. If you want to vote for the Deviation that is made by somewone with the Username XY write "XY" at the place of "Deviant". You would then answer a note with the following subject: "Vote - XY"

We already sent the notes to the members starting with an "A" but because of the journal problem we couldn't explain what this means. I'm sorry for spamming. We'll send the note again.

A first sign of life after a long time

I almost don't know how to start this journal. This entry should be a little different than usual. Some of you probably think that we forgot this account or we just let it be. But that's not how it was. It's going to be difficult to explain it all in a way so that you can see what the point is but I'll try my best. That's also why I'm writing in a "personal way" and not in the formal way I usually do.
You know our entries as correct and without much personal stuff from the admins. It has all the time been an important point to us to not show through the journals who's behind it. It should just stand as an entry from *switzerland and not as an entry from a specific admin. We didn't want to take any advantages just because we are the so called admins of this so called community. And I think we made a good job during the last year. Obviously the last year is past for already a few months and things changed a lot during those few months. This account seemed to die and for everyone it must have looked as if noone cares. But believe me, we both - Dani and me - often talked about *switzerland and we actually knew there was work to do.
First in December/January there was like a flu of lazyness taking over the admins. It began with the small amount of contest during the first month and so we somehow lost motivation. We never lost the motivation to go on but durnig this time we just didn't see why invest so much time for something you don't care anyways. Don't get me wrong now. We're not blaming you for anything. Of course, we could have done more effort to encourage you and make you create some contest entries. But we simply haven't had the time for it. Dani started a new school and I'm at the army (I'm still there untill May 5th).
After those first time of lazyness we didn't came back because ... well that was because ... we kinda haven't had enough courage. I mean we knew we were away for qutie a long time and felt guilty for not doing anything for this community. So just because of this feeling of guiltyness we always thought "let's do it next weekend - okay, let's do it next day" and as you know, time just passes by too fast sometimes. We knew we can't go on as if nothing happened. We owe you an explanation. And that's what I do now.
Now it's deffinitely time to relaunch the community and bring back all the creativity, spirit and life into this accont that once was living in here. We had several great meetings which were from my point of view a really big success for everyone and we had lots of commited member that were willing to take some time for this community. Hopefully we can show you that we both, Dani and me, are motivated to bring this spirit back into our community.
Some of you maybe remember that we have been talking about a big devMeeting which will take place this spring. That didn't change. There will be a big even this spring/summer. It will be when I'm finished with the army.
The sadest thing that happened during the last time was that our subscription expired. Well the fact that it expired is not that sad - the sad thing is that we didn't notice untill it was too late. And I'm really sorry for that and as soon as I have the possibility I'll buy a new one.

I hope I was able to show you some details about the past few months and hopefully you see that the "wind is changing". We want to bring back life into this account so that it's worth it for everyone to be a part of the Swiss Community.

If you have any questions just ask them. Write us a note, comment or whatever you want. And you'll get an answer. There are still lots of comments to be answered but I'm working on them. As you see I have the possibility to access the internet here at the base. And some of you probably know that as "Durchdiener" (service long - pour les romonds) you really have plenty of time.

Autumn DevMeet in Fribourg

The Autumn DevMeet 2005 in Fribourg was a really big success. The weather was (as usual at the swiss devMeetings ) great and it wasn't too cold to run around and take photograph of every little thing that could be interesting. Well, I think untill we stop running around with our cam the tempreatures must be somewhere around the zero-point.

It was planned to first have a lunch somewhere in the city of Fribourg and then later on visit some museums. Finally we only visited one of them. To explain the reason it's needed to explain the whole story:
After getting some food at Mc Do we went to a place somewhere outisde and sat down to eat our lunch. We were always accompanied by a yellow balloon from Mc Do which couldn't unfix itself from my camera bag. So it was with us all day and sometimes it had fun attacking ~siebdruck. I hope all his blessures are healing well. The reason of the aggressiveness of this balloon is still obscure.

Later on we drove to the HR Giger Museum. Already after a few step inside of the museum we decided to describe the museum with just "wow". After visiting every part of the museum we decided to describe the day with "wow". The museum has really fantastic paintings of HR Giger. It was awesome. To work up all the impressions we went to the HR Giger Bar and drank something. While sitting there someone of our group suddenly realized that HR Giger himself step inside the bar! HR GIGER! All our hearts beated like hell and we hardly couldn't held the cam without jiggling. It was clear not even "wow" was enough to describe this day.
Everyone took his cam and ran towards HR Giger and we took shot after shot of him. We also wanted to talk to him and maybe take a group photo. Sadly we haven't had the chance to because he was all the time giving an interview for a certain TV Channel.
After this exciting event we decided not to visit another museum. What we saw was enough for the whole day.
At the evening we went back to Fribourg and took the traditional group photo in front of a fountain. After this some of the deviants that took part on the meeting had to leave and travel back home. The others who stayed went eating dinner and afterwards to a exhibition with the title "Legends of the world".



As you probably realized it was a ... (all the positive and great words together) day. We really are going to organize another Swiss devMeeting somewhere at Romandie

Swiss Winter devMeeting - Preview

Actually we wanted to organize the next meeting before snow covers Switzerland in a white veil. But since time passes by that fast and we never really had concrete ideas where and how to organize this meeting we are already planing a

Swiss Winter devMeeting.

This does not mean that it's not possible to organze a Swiss Fall devMeeting though. If there is a Fall devMeeting going to be organized it should be somewhere at the french part of Switzerland. Maybe someone of you (who is from the French part of Switzerland - or knows this part well) thinks no that he'd be willing to help us organizing such an event. If so, we'd be glad to get in contact with you.
If there was noone who want to help us, the Fall devMeeting will be dropped.

Back to the Winter devMeeting: The idea of the Swiss Winter devMeeting is to go to a lodge somewhere nearby a skiing region so that we can go out with our skis or snowboards. It isn't necessary to bring a cam with you because the main topic of this meeting will be skiing and snowboarding. Of course we can combine it with photography but as usual the most important thing is having fun and meeting people!

The first question will be posted as a poll. And this is if you were interested in such a meeting or not.

As you know there was a contest during the meeting to shoot a picture of the most scurrile person. It's time to vote for the winner of this contest now. Have a look at the current poll. The thumbs are down in this journal.



Edit:
The Pictures have been offline because of some technical reasons. They are now on again.
The problem was that there have been too many pictures with a too big size in one folder and the server wasn't able to compress them all at the same time. (technical detail from the gallery script which allows people to upload the picture without the thumbs. the thumbs get resized everytime a user looks at the gallery).
I hope that the server is now able to deal with all the data. Please excuse the long off time.

Summer devMeeting

The meeting was a great thing and the people were great. Also the weather was fantastic. There were hundreds of photos taken during this day. The most fascinating thing of those meetings especially for us admins is that there are always new people coming to this events. Mostly there are five or six people that are always part of it and maybe 15 new people. This makes the Swiss devMeetings such a special thing. And it encourages us to organise the next event, soon.

Summer devMeet - First information

We already announced the next swiss devMeet on our shoutboard. It is going to take place somewhen during August. The location will be nearby Zurich.
What we need now is to find a date which fits for everyone. We know it's not possible to choose a day where everyone can but to have as much participators as possible we will create a poll where you can choose between four dates. If none of them fits well please choose "others" and we will try to find a new date.

More details about the exact location and time are following.

Just one more little detail: The admins already thought of some very interesting actions. So be sure to be prepared for the most special and most exciting swiss devMeet

Lucerne Details

Yeah, I konw we made quite a few journal updates today. I hope you don't get bothered by them. Well, I can tell you they are worth reading. Especially this one. It's about the meeting which will take place, soon.

Date: May 28 2005
Location: Lucerne

Treffpunkt: Torbogen gegenüber HB Luzern
Zeit: 13.00 Uhr

Alternative: good weather
After meeting at the "Torbogen" we will walk to the nearby KKL and stay there for some time. There we will have some time to get in contact with eachother and get known to all our name. Afterwards we will make a tour to some special places in Lucerne. This tour of course is not fixed on every little detail. We will be flexible to change the route and go to places you wish.

Alternative: bad weather
Instead of walking through Lucerne we will go to some special Bars. Of course we will look that there is enough space for everyone so we are going to book seats for all of you.

General
The ending time isn't fixed yet and I think this is going to be spontaneously. Everyone is free to leave at the time she/he preferes.
The admins will be in Lucerne at Saturday night and be around in some bars. If anyone wanted to join and hang out with us it would be a pleasure. (places are limitted )

To reach a high amount of participants we try to find a topic that intrest as much people as possible. So we wont just set a topic and you have to create something for it but you will have the chance to make suggestions.

Meeting in Teufen AR

The DevMeeting in Teufen AR was great. We were finally 6 people (less than announced - but it was an awesome event though).
We had a lot fun in the old lodge in this little town. Okay, it was cold and we had to light a big fire but this was a special experience.

Christmas Meeting
Well, the date for the Meeting is fixed and we know where we are doing it as well.
We first thought of a one-day-meeting but then decided to change it to a two-day-meeting. We will have more time to know eachother, to experiment with photos, ... whatever we feel like.

Date: December, 29./30. 2004

The meeting will be in Teufen AR that's 10min from of St.Gallen.
We are about 5 - 10 people and we will sleep in an little lodge (Pfadiheim). So, don't expect a grand house. I'm sure it is a very special experience staying there in this cold winter time

Christmas Meeting

Dieses Mal schreibe ich den Text auf Deutsch und in Englisch. Ich gehe davon aus, dass eine grosse Mehrheit, die diesen Text liest deutschsprechend ist und ich könnte mir noch vorstellen, dass einige von euch es als angenehmer empfinden einen deutschen Eintrag zu lesen als einen englischen. (Oder täusch ich mich da? Bin immer froh über Rückmeldungen.)
Zum eigentlichen Punkt, dem Christmas Meeting:
Ich habe den Input bekommen, man könnte über Weihnachten oder an einem Wochenende davor (das Datum ist noch überhaupt nicht fest gelegt) ein kleines Weihnachts-dev-meeting veranstalten. Die Idee an sich ist sehr spannend und nach dem Treffen in Bern bin ich überzeugt, dass wir alle bestimmt viel Spass haben werden. Es gibt nur an einem Weihnachts-Treffen ein paar technische Probleme zu lösen. Beispielsweise sollten wir eine Lokalität haben, wo wir nicht all zu sehr frieren und trotzdem Platz für vielleicht 10 Leute haben.
Dieser Eintrag sollte mal einen ersten Gedankenanstoss geben... und falls jemand eine Idee hat oder bereit ist diesen Event bei sich durchzuführen, so wären wir natürlich sehr glücklich darüber. Die Admins werden bestimmt etwas machen über Weihnachten, nur ist halt noch nicht sicher in welchem Stil dies dann auch durchgeführt wird. Wüsste jemand also gerade etwas, so könnten wir vielleich noch eine kleine Gruppe motivieren.

What do you think about a "XMas-dev-meeting" somewhere in switzerland? I got the idea from one of your members to organize a little xmas-meeting and I think it's a pretty nice idea. But where shall we meet? Switzerland is a cold country around christmas, so we should have the possibility to be on a warm location. Is there anyone who has an idea where we could meet?
The admins of switzerland are going to meet anyway but if we knew a good location we problably are able to make a little dev meeting out of it.

Yeah, it's been long time since you "heard" from us. There had been alot of "administrative stuff" to work out first but now there is something for you! A new contest!
The subject is simply "Swiss people" So, you are allowed to do all what you are ableto: You can paint, draw, manipulate, photographe, or what ever you want to. Just never forget the subject Swiss people. Well, this doesen't mean you have to show a picture of a swiss guy but there should be an obvious connection to this subject.

How to submit
Submit the picture you made for this contest to your own account and name it with the ending "SWISS CONTEST". Example: "swss guy - SWISS CONTEST" or "citylife - SWISS CONTEST".
We will fav your picture and at the end of a contest we show a list of all the pictures we faved.
Then we will send you a note with the subject "Vote - DEVIANT DEVIATION" and then you can replace DEVIANT DEVIATION with the name of the user and the name of his pic that you think should win.




Subscribtion
We want to buy a subscribtion for ~ switzerland. This would make the voting much easier because we could show you all the submits we got in a journal as a preview.

Sunshine - Pizza - Fun
Saturday was the first swiss DeviantART-meeting in Bern.
we had big luck with the weather, wich was beautiful!
After we did find each other, we were waiting for some others but they didn't come.
so, what ever, we used the time to laugh about the stupid show on the train-station-hall, where we were waiting and, it seems, to stand beneath some other deviants without seeing them, how we know now. well... even a poster with "meeting-point DA" didn't help.
after standing arround about an hour, we went for a walk through the city to take something to eat and certainly some pictures. the most of them, so i think, will be loadet up from the ones eachself but we will link the pictures then.
it seemed that the strange festival in the station-hall wasn't the only event in bern this day. on a place in the city was a demonstration for the homosexual marriage. yeah... was a special ambience there.
well, the rest of the meeting is shortly told. we went to some interesting places to take some pictures, turned arround for going back to the train-station.

we decided, that the participants of this meeting will organise the next meeting. we don't know when it will be yet, but it will be in lucerne and it will be much more bigger and for shure again pretty deviant!

Deviant Meeting
There was a bad situation today in bern. The "meeting point" at the train station was full of people - not because of the meeting but because a strange festival. So it was quite difficult to find eachother. At the end we have been five Deviants: ~ DasZweiteIch, ~siebdruck, ~Tyraxor, * ace-flame and ~scouros
Those people will be the organisation team for the next event. We have been working out some ideas! We really look forward to it. (details follow)
