So, I'll have to report eventually that I attended New York Comic-Con a few weeks ago and literally had myself a blast! It was my first "comic book" convention (mind you, I've been to several Anime conventions) but I have to say that I'm starting to really dig the old-school American comics. I am always going to suggest to comic lovers that they attend BOTH a Comic-Con and an "Anime-Con" to get a real taste of the comic book world and the artwork associated with it...there's so many different perspectives and styles and artists out there that you're always bound to find something that relates to you.

But all conventions are NOT THE SAME! So, for those of you who have attended one or the other (but not both), let me point out some difference that you should be aware of (and that I noticed):

1) At Comic-Con, I didn't see that many costumed citizens or masked crusaders. While Otakon (as well as pretty much every other "Anime-Con") is known of its cosplayers, and a great abundance of them, the closest thing I saw to cosplaying most of the time was people wearing their favorite comic-influenced t-shirts or backpacks.Of course, there were some people dressed up... and if you're going to be in costume, people, at least put some effort into it (and find the right style that fits your body type, PLEASE, it's hard to crane my neck that far not to look at you)!

2)Comic-Con attendees are not very fond of Anime fans...they WILL yell at you and poke fun at you if you attend as a character from Bleach, Dragon Ball or any other popularly-known Anime...with the exception of Avatar, they like that one? But don't fear! There were plenty of panels and tables at Comic-Con for Anime fans to gather, which you don't see any American-based comic panels or tables at all at Otakon (I haven't found one yet, at least). In any case, don't go to Comic-Con looking for Anime, and visa-versa...it's just weird.

3)The artist-alley and seller's alley are conjoined at Comic-Con, making it easy and convenient to move from comic books and memorabilia to the actually artists that created them! I got a ton of signature from all different artists, writers and inkers for some of my favorite comics. At Otakon, it's very rare you find the artist attending to get a signature...in fact, most of the artists in attendance are amateurs either selling their Anime-based art or are webcomic artists looking to expand their fan base. I guarantee, you're going to be spending most of your time and money buying Anime goodies anyway, so Artist's Alley? Where's that?

4) All "fan-boys" are the same...and you can't escape them!

5) All Cons are packed: Be prepared to walk, push, shove, bite, snarl and eat your way through the crowd to get to what you want! These places are not for the faint of heart...one of my friends was verbally attacked by a "fan-girl" after he called her favorite male character, basically, a 'murder and a coward'. It took everything we had to pry her from him as she tried to convince him otherwise...

True Story.

6) Bring food and snacks...Cons are notorious for ripping people off in terms of food and beverage costs, and this goes for all cons.

For any one else who can find differences and similarities, I invite them to comment. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot which I will remember later.

I'm not being biased, as I enjoy both Otakon and Comic-Con. I believe both events hold a little something for everyone, depending on what you're into and what you're looking for. Over-time, my preference and style as an artist has changed, so I'm not exactly sure where I fit at this point. In any case, I HIGHLY recommend going to Comic-Con (as I will be going again next year)...and I'll see you at Otakon this year.

So I was invited to do a TMNT Secret Santa this year being run by and . I just received my Secret Santa, and although I can give NO DETAILS (duh, that's why it's "secret") I'm quite excited about doing this.

In fact, I'm actually quite honored to be invited. I'm also extremely excited to see what I get in return! I'm pleased to know quite a few really excellent artists and I know that they're probably participating, so I can't wait to see all the wonderful work they're going to do.

On a different note, not quite sure if the holiday mood has hit me yet. It just doesn't feel like Christmas (cause that's what I celebrate) is just around the corner...

To top that off, I haven't done any shopping yet! Which is probably not a good thing.

So its getting to that time of year again...oh yes, the most wonderful time of the year where every person who has held in their inner fanboy and fangirl can just let it all hang out in Baltimore Harbor. Yes, ladies and gentlemen...Otakon is just a few weeks!

I am uber excited this year, as I am every year I have gone to Otakon. Truth be told, I end up not going for all the delicious anime goodies and plushies...I always end up finding myself in Artist Alley with the under appreciated (and sometimes OVER appreciated) amateur artists who come to share and sell their work. Often I have found better posters, stickers and all-around awesome stuff more unique and special then anything I could buy anywhere else.

So if your heading to Otakon this year, don't forget to take a stop at Artist Alley...I know you won't be disappointed. And hey, I may even see you there walking around with my fangirl smile

Okay, so i was tagged by to do this Journal Posting thingy:

The rules:

1. Post all the rules.
2. Every person who was tagged must write 8 things about yourself.
3. You must write all these things on your journal.
4. After it, tag 8 persons/friends.
5. Finally, go to their galleries and tell them about it.

1.) I'm not positive if I can cook or not. I've never really been given the opportunity to try, and I'm pretty lazy.

2.) I think I'm secretly in love with Raphael from TMNT...

3.) I always carry a pencil with me, where ever i go. The exacto blade is also a secondary thing I carry with me most of the time. I've gotten caught at the airport for accidentally bringing that along (i forgot it was in my bag).

4.) I'm a full time college student with two side jobs. I always say I'm too busy...and usually am. My friends say I should stop "having a life".

5.) My arms are double jointed, which means i can twist my elbows inside out and flip my hands front and back. Most people can do this, but it hurts them. I don't feel any pain, and it freaks people out!

6.) Most of the time I can't speak properly, because I'm thinking too fast for my mouth to catch up. It's pretty annoying for me, yet entertaining for everyone else.

7.) I went into Graphic Design for the job and because I love art, but I've always really wanted to be an animator. That's why I do comic work on the side.

8.) The only two shows I will watch religiously are House and Psych (they are awesome!)

That was really hard to do! Um, I'll tag 6 people (so sue me!), but they've probably already done this:

For the past month, if it isn't already obvious in my gallery, I've been on a TMNT kick. I've actually never drawn the TMNT before now, even though I've been a fan for the longest time (I grew up on the 80s cartoon, after all). I've noticed that I need serious practice with bodies and drawing body motions, and working on my own characters for so long has limited me to only drawing certain body types.
In other words, this is an awsome break and a chance for me to do something else. And I LOVE it.

Remember peoples...if you like it, LEAVE COMMENTS!

Yes, and I mean you too. I see you there, hiding in the corner. Come out of there and damn it, say something!

Artists like comments. We do. They are the breakfast, lunch and dinner in a starving artist's world. For all the work we put into presenting our pieces of artwork, the least we could do is help one another out by dropping comments and exchanging ideas. I can't say that I'm not being a little hypocritical here, but damn it, I'm trying my best to be more involved. So there! At least I'm trying.

So drop me a line, a message, a piece of bait...anything you want to call it, let me know how I'm doing. I'll be sure to return the favor.

Actually, I really do enjoy the turnout. The Mototrcycle piece is the first one I did, and even though it took me twice as long, the result is fantastic. A little more practice and I think I might get the hang of theis after all.

Well...what the hell...let's give it a shot...

Well, seems like I'm back! I've got a better operating system and mucho, mucho artwork just lying around ready to be posted. It's been a little more than a year and half and I think I'm ready to post stuff again...that is, if Deviant Art is ready for me!

Stay tuned, my comic is coming as well (and I'm so excited!)

And again, if you keep the comments coming, I'll keep the artwork coming!
Feedback is the best nutrition for any artist.
