...My school has a science fiction library... IT'S OWN LIBRARY! It's huge! It's a basement, with geeks and everything! I haven't had much time to go down there lately, but it's so nifty. I just read the first volume of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and checked out a big (and very old!) omnibus of Jules Verne. I've heard lots of mixed reviews about Jules Verne's stuff... I hope it doesn't suck too bad. It's also where I met, matronmalice on LJ, who I believe I saw in line somewhere but didn't recognize, because I am incapable OF RECOGNIZING THE HUMAN FACE. I've learned that I don't know who the hell anyone usually is, no matter how many times I meet them. I'll try and do subtle things like talk to them for a long time, and they're finally like, "yay, we should hang out!" I ask them to write their number on a piece of paper and then go, "make sure you write down your name too, so I know whose number it is"... this is all a ploy because I've forgotten their god damned name! I always feel terrible about it, too.

I went to Manhattan with a bunch of people about a week ago. We went to Chinatown and a bunch of Japanese bookstores. One of the people was a Japanese international student, too... so I got a chance to talk to her a little bit and make an ass of myself. XP

I have volunteered for five billion different things, because I thought I was bored.

1) I'm running around collecting signatures to get money for student clubs... I think this'll be pretty easy, because just after volunteering to ask around it did this huge domino effect. I'm a member of two clubs, and the members of those clubs all have connections with *other* clubs. Then my roommate is in a pledge in some sorority, who has a bunch of peons who are in other stuff, and so on and so on.

2) I started kind of sitting in on the meetings at some or other feminist organization here on campus, and they eventually noticed me and asking me if I wanted to do stuff. It's kinda funny, I think they made me the unofficial morale officer (*zomg puts 'H' on forehead in green marker*) so I decided to look up one discussion topic and one dorky new-age 'social ice-breaker' exercise for next week's meeting. They're also trying to find ideas for social events and the like, and I'm trying to think something up. Feminist movie night or something... This 'extra-curricular activity' is easily the one I'm the most nervous about, because all the people in the group look like they've been around for a long time, and I frankly don't want to piss them off. I feel like kind of a leechy ghoul-type person saying this, but if I stick around for two semesters I can sign up for an office and then it'll look all nifty on grad-school applications.

3) Lastly, on the 12th I'm not going to be eating during the day. There's this thing where if you sign up and fast for Ramadan for a day, a sponsor will donate money to give food to the homeless. Sounded easy enough. Plus, there's a free dinner once you're done fasting. I frankly think it'll be a good way to save points on my meal plan.

So anyways, Dad got a job... IN ALASKA. I was correct in my suspicions that he was just trying to get me to go to school there so he could have an excuse go. Now he's going to probably live there seasonally and come to Washington during holidays. I'm kind of curious as to how my stepmother feels about all this, but I guess if he accepted the position, it must be cool with her.

I'm also *really* tempted to try and apply for an RA position at the school. It's equivalent to maybe a part-time job plus some extra training, and all the volunteer stuff I've been doing is only for this month. The big thing is that if you're an RA, you get free room and board plus a meal stipend. It'd be basically like a $3,000 scholarship each semester, and *this* would mean I wouldn't have to take out any more loans, because Dad has a job now.

I might try to propose "anthropological linguistics" as a multi-disciplinary studies major so I don't have to take as many classes. I've probably said it before, but I'm a linguistics major with an anthropology minor at the moment, and I'm worried that I won't finish all my requirements in two years. I personally want to take more classes, but money is an issue. *cries* Why can't college be free? It is in other places!

*Cough* My birthday is on the 29th. I am a consumer whore.

I recently got curious enough to buy a DVD with three of the Russian-produced 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson' films. ...zomg, to use a cliche.

OK-OK, I know it isn't British enough and there's no budget and the music gets kind of redundant and Livanov's Holmes is kind of dorky looking and that lazy bastards would be turned off by reading subtitles and that Watson is technically taller than Holmes is BUT MY GOD THE REICHENBACH SCENE. *catches breath* The thing that disappointed me the most about the Granada show was the most redeeming part of the Russian one. Russian dummies fall down waterfalls better, I guess. I'm going to wait to watch it again with Yugami this weekend before I write a big spoilery review on it (which I totally want to do) but I just need to squee a little. Anyway, this is where I pat myself on the back for taking the risk and spending thirty-two bucks on something I was unsure about. Like little fried bits of lovely on the TV screen, I tells you!

I have other things to say about how I have no idea how to pack for school, and that I picked blackberries and made blackberry cobbler, but the Russian Holmes thing was the most important part of my day. *nod* It's not pathetic, it's fandom!

MY ARM HURTS. They did a tetanus shot and now there's this giant red welt three days later. It also took them three vials of blood to prove to the state of New York that I'm not Typhoid Mary. This is what it means to go to college! They were right about the horrible tests.

...and you can actually replace the phrase "rock the casbah" with "lock the taskbar" when singing the famous song by The Clash, and it sounds exactly the same. Try it!

I'm not sure it really needs a warning (there aren't really any spoilers) but just in case, I just finished reading The Crystal Bucephalus and watching that weird P.R.O.B.E. thing...

...Ready? OK...

Crystal Bucket Phallus (which will totally be the new name for my punk cover band) was actually kind of nifty. It makes me want to slap myself in the face for thinking that similar concepts will all be tackled in the same way, because before I even bought the thing I was thinking, "zomg, a story about a time traveling restaurant, punch me in the face with The Restaurant at the End of the Universe..." but in the end I was glad I bought it. It had a pretty interesting story; somewhat believeble technobabble; and the Doctor, Turlough and Tegan in funny historical costuming. My only real gripe was the fact that Mr. Writer-Dood had a tendency to recycle phrases in his descriptive prose that got on my nerves. You can only rip heaven apart and suck on your fingertips so many times before it gets old. I'd overall give it four out of five chainsaws. *silently wonders if she used all those semi-colons properly...*

I also just saw (the first ep of) this unofficial spin-off type thing called P.R.O.B.E. It's around on a few of the communities on LJ that I'm a member of. I don't wanna name names because there's the whole file-sharing paranoia thing going on. Anyway, it's got giant cell phones, Peter Davison playing an <strike>sexy</strike> evil schoolmaster, and dead puppies. Oh, and don't forget the boy kissing. Definitely an entertaining, weird-ass eighty-one minutes and thirty seconds. Highly recommended, cuz' it's freaking weird. *nod*

My first leap into the land of Eight and Fitz will be Blue Angel, which is already funky twenty pages in.

I'm looking forward to seeing next week's one. I was kind of irritated with some of the ambiance that was very blatantly ripped off from Firefly (ooh, purdy space shots and fiddle music...) and the whole "I AM SO THE DEVIL AND STUFF, YOU SHOULD BEHOLD MY INGENIUS NAMES OF NAMEY-NESS. HERE IS A SANDWICH." routine was kind of lame. He could've just rambled about his being evil and it would've had the same effect. Anyway, yeah...! Not as bad this time around!

nerdcakes, I started working on your x-mas present but I wasn't sure if you wanted anything in particular to happen in the fan fic. Have you had something specific for Hawkeye and Mulcahy floating around in your head that you'd like me to write? A premise or anything like that? It's all for you, baby!

fizh, I've been working on your present, but I need another sheet of the character descriptions. I got a really cool pose worked out and everything. Give!

And to everyone: GIVE ME A ROBOTIC HAM.

PS - I have started mirroring my LJ entries to my deviantart account in an attempt to use it. If you have a deviantart account or LJ account, lemme know so I can add you!

I've been drawing.. just... not posting so much. I have a another sketch of Amadi I'm working on that I'll be posting soon. I also have really been neglecting my writing and drawing livejournals. Black and White Pearl is kind of an extensive story that I've been developing for a year or so now, and I've been working on all the details in my head... Guess because of that I've had problems trying to sum everything up to where I can post it on a journal and have other people get it! I need to make a big list off all the shit I need to do so I don't have to worry about all the things I still have yet to do @_@; I guess I'll get to it when I'll get to it. Rambling Ends.

This problem has been bugging me for a long time... What exactly is my style of drawing? People keep accusing me of being a Clampist, but I really don't see it anywhere. And I can see elements of anime, but not enough to call my STYLE anime. Can someone tell me what the hell is going on?

I complain enough, so I'm shutting up and posting things. There is something preventing me from liking this thing... I'm guessing it's the mass of people so vastly better than I am in everything... even shoe polish drinking. Regardless, people said it would be a good idea if I were to post things on this. I already have a livejournal for this kind of stuff, but oh well. There's already an assload of bad art all over the internet, a little more can't hurt. Anyway, what I just posted was another character from The Black And White Pearl. This is Tau, he's a con artist with bright yellow boots and beautiful man hair.
