I'm finally done. I have finally walked out of my last class. It's only taken 18 years, but I've finally finished school. I'll never have to go back again (if I don't want to, and I DON'T want to). It's hard to believe that I started all this back in 1991. When I had to leave school in 1998 and start working full time, I never thought I was ever going to go back and get a degree, let alone a Bachelor of Fine Arts. That was back in a day when artists hired other artists. They didn't care what school you went to. All they cared about was whether you could do the work. After I was laid off from my ad agency job in 2002, something changed. Artists weren't the ones responsible for hiring other artists anymore. Human resources departments were and I've found that they don't seem to really care if you can do the work. All they seem to care about is if you have a degree. Having that be a barring factor to finding work has been a rough thing. But now it's finally done. I have the piece of paper. And boy am I happy.

Now the big question, "What's next?"

Well, after a pile of research and pondering, I think it's going to be SoCal again this time. From all the places I've looked, Cali has many more Art Director/Graphic Designer positions available. There sure aren't any here in Utah for an "old timer" like me. There's been little out in the Chicagoland area either. SO, it's looking like I'll be making a return to the sunny shores of the West Coast. How that's going to work yet, I don't know. It's looking more and more that I'm going to have to play the "take a chance" game again and just head out there and try to find work. Granted, this time I'll have help with freelance and contract stuff until there's full-time work, but I know that there's little way that I'll survive if I stay in Utah.

Heck, the $400 in student loan payments will be starting come January of next year. Having a full-time job will be very helpful. And having benefits isn't a bad thing either.

Anyone looking for a good graphic designer in the SoCal area?

So all the major schoolstuffs is finally over. I got through my BFA show, came out with some coolie posters and a goofy Flash site [link] , and I even managed to get a new Beyond Neverwonder [link] page done this week. Whodathunk?

Now all I have is 7 more weeks of my last class and then I'm DONE with college FOREVER! It's been a long time coming too, considering that I started in 1991.

Then once the last class is done, I have to see where life will take me next. Who KNOWS where I'll end up this time.

Only time will tell...

Oh, and at some point, I need to design a new CSS layout here.
It was a really long weekend for me. I was out in SoCal for my brother's ballroom competition and spent a good chunk of time at Disneyland. (While there, I did see over at the Off The Page store... though she was surrounded by folks and for good reason. I didn't want to bother her while she was in the middle of drawing stuff for folks, so I quietly watched while I bought some stuff.) While the Disneyland stuff was excellent as usual, the driving there and back was not. Had to make massive detours because of snow issues... put an extra 250 miles on the car just getting around two 10 mile sections of road that were shut down...

In other news, it took 2 years, but I finally reached 10,000 pageviews! Thanks to everyone that has visited and for all the people that watch this small space here. I really appreciate the support!

Welcome to the very first tekitFeature. Or what I like to call the "Boy I wish I could do cool things like these people but, yaknow, I really suck" Feature.

I've been meaning to do this for a while, but it kept getting tossed onto a really far back burner. The other day I decided to just get it done. I'm going to start doing a little feature set here on my journal, to show some of the art around dA that I've seen that I think is trés excellent. For this first one, I've gone back through some of the recent DDs and pulled a few pieces that I think are cool. Fortunately I like all kinds of stuff, so it's not going to be limited to just anime-style art and things. There will be 3-D, photos, design... I don't believe that one one kind of art is art. Art can be found in almost anything.

And so with that, here's the tekitFeature for August 2008. Enjoy!

For those there, you can either rejoice or prepare for whatever you want to prepare for, since my presence always makes for an interesting time. I'll take whatever either way though. With the semester being over and no school happening again until the Fall, I can take some time off and still get all my work hours in.

I'll have to do some serious eating while there too. Nothing "real" out here much. Miller's Pub will be a must. As well as some flavor of Chicago Style pizza. I'm sure there will be other things. I'll be out there Thursday (arriving in the evening) and returning on Monday (in the morning).
So, I spent New Year's Eve doing something rather unexpected. I spent most of the day up at the Apple Store in Salt Lake. Late Saturday night my hard drive on the MacBook mysteriously crashed. And it crashed hard. Usually when a hard drive crashes, the computer still knows there's a hard drive there, it just doesn't want to work. This crash was so bad that the hardware wasn't even detectable to the computer. Totally hosed. I lost 4 months of emails and the last 3 weeks of projects. I hate when I lose things like this. It's taken me a couple of days to get the machine usable again. Email setup is still gimped. I'm still installing apps. And then I have the last 3 weeks of projects to redo. Not looking forward to that. At least it happened in 2007.

Hope everyone else's New Year's was a bit better than mine.

Finals are finished. Semester is over. Now it's sit back and wait time.

<strike>1) Wait for the first anime con staff meeting that I've been to in 4 years.</strike>
Meeting went really well. It'll be nice to be back doing con work again. Doing what I do best, designing things.

<strike>2) Wait for grades. Should be ok overall.</strike>
Got an "A" in 3-D Design, a "B" in Figure Drawing and a "C+" in Illustrative Media (Oil Painting) and History of Art to the Renaissance. Just about as I figured.

3) Wait for my Associates degree diploma.

<strike>4) Wait for the Las Vegas Bowl between BYU and UCLA. Go Cougs! </strike>
Game just ended. Was a really tough game. It came down to UCLA on the BYU 28 yard line with 0:03 left and UCLA trying for a field goal. BYU Defensive Lineman, #55 Eathyn Manumaleuna blocked the field goal attempt. Final score: BYU 17, UCLA 16. COUGARS WIN! BYU ends the season at 11-2. Going to be a happy day in Provo.

<strike>5) Wait for Christmas. (New Wacom tablet is going to be under the tree. Woo!)</strike>
Graphics tablet and some movies. Low key Christmas.

6) Wait for New Years, where I'll prolly be at home doing nothing much.

7) <strike>Wait for</strike> time to sleep between items 1 though 6.  -_-;;

and

8) Wait for the next semester to start on January 3rd.

Sometimes I hate waiting.

So I've been having some severe issues with dA's server for the last few weeks. Almost every time I try to go to a page, I get a "connection was reset by server" error. It's gotten to the point where I can't even look at messages properly, not to mention not being able to submit art, reply to messages and add things to my favorites list... I submitted something to the help desk about it, but that was almost a week ago and I haven't heard ANYTHING about what's going on yet.

Until things get fixed, you prolly won't see too much from me here. Seeing as they're having issues and the fact that my subscription just expired yesterday, I have less reason to be around (let alone pay these guys) when things aren't working.

I guess I see that there's little want, need or demand for any of my art. To be honest, I'm not actually surprised. I don't think my stuff sucks THAT badly, but then again, it's not anything stellar, so yeah, no surprise. I'll go back into "just doing art for me" mode. Granted I figured that there wouldn't be much if any response to anything that I said in that last journal entry, (but then again, I don't ever get much response on anything usually, so hey, why should anyone start now?

Artstuffs have been slow lately. I haven't had time or energy to do anything. Last week was kinda a nasty funk for class stuff too. I only had one decent drawing from class last week. I didn't get to post it cause my camera was in Southern California with my parents. I've got the camera back now and I'll take some picts after class today.

My Oni Link painting is coming along. I've got to post an update there too.

Other than that, just kinda slow blah.
At least there's only 2 days of class this week.

I was very fortunate to get a commission set up with the very excellent . Tama did an EXCELLENT job doing a rendition of my Luna from Beyond Neverwonder. Please check it out here:

I love how her wings turned out. Very cute! Thanks a bunch for the commission, Tama! You totally rock!

Now if I could just get to the point where I could draw my characters like that...

Some day... some day...

--------------------

On the topic of commissions, I've been pondering starting doing some, but I'm not sure if there's much of anyone out that that would want to actually pay for me to do artstuffs. Dunno. Thoughts anyone? Would you pay me a little pittance to draw you something? I'd love to know.

--------------------

Oh, and I just noticed... I'm dangerously close to 6000 pageviews... if someone is paying attention enough here and can catch the 6000th page view with a screen cap, I'll do a drawing for them. Have at it folks!

Life has been kinda funky since starting school again, so things have been kinda out of sorts...

So, since things haven't been rather noteworthy around here, here's an iKit Shuffle for the month of October.

It's been a rough month for drawing external stuff. All the drawing I've had time and energy for has been for classes, with a few rare exceptions. Most times I don't even have time to do "homework" because of how much time work takes up. As a result, poor Alice and the Neverwonder crew have been neglected. I really need to find time to get that going again.

Got tired of all the channels disappearing on Comcast's Basic Cable TV lineup, so we got the DirecTV turned back on. It's nice having all the old channels back. And the TiVo.

After getting said DirecTV turned back on, come to find out that they're trying to charge me for 7 Adult channel pay-per-view things that they say were done in 2000. Quite a feat considering that, 1) I don't use the Pay-Per-View, 2) I wasn't living in Utah in 2000 when they claim that they were done and 3) that my service at the Utah address was turned off in October 1999 and wasn't turned back on until 2003. I first called them on October 1st and today, October 31st, it's still not resolved. And I've spent at least 3 total hours on the phone on 3 different occasions to try and get this straightened out. I was assured by the last person that I talked to, a supervisor, that someone would call me back and tell me what the story was by the 30th. And it's now the 31st and no call. I get to play hardball with them now.

I hate charcoal. Drawing in charcoal is icky.

I like conte crayon. Much better for doing my figure drawings.

I also hate oil paints. While they have their appeal at times, things the last few weeks have just been frustrating... like curdling White... it's not liking the turpentine that I've been using I suppose... but it's the same as everyone else, so I'm not sure what's up there.

Today is my Dad's birthday and it's Halloween. The family is doing the usual setup, with Pirates of the Caribbean as the theme. Little bro is dressed up as Jack Sparrow and went to his Dance class dress up this morning. I'd love to have seen the reaction...

Since is it my Dad's birthday and there's little time for cooking because of the festivities of the day, that means it's Brick Oven pizza night. Best pizza outside Chicago.

And finally, got a copy of Mac OS X Leopard installed on the laptop. All in all, good stuff. There have been a few little glitchy things with 3rd party stuff, like having to do some manual configuration on my PHP installation and things like Xjournal not working (switched to iJournal, which I'm using right now), but the OS is really slick. Very nice.

I think that's it for now. More babbling when I have it.

This semester is proving to be more time-comsuming that I had originally thought. I guess that's the pain of having three different art classes. It's interesting that each teacher gives assignments like they're under the assumption that they're the only class that each person has and that there's NOTHING else that can possibly compete with the work for their class. Kind of a pain when you think about it, but very little I can do. I need these classes, so I just have to deal. It would probably be better if I didn't have work competing, but I need that too, so I'm kinda stuck.

It's hard too cause it looks like little is going on since I haven't had time to work on Neverwonder for a while and there's definitely not been any time for a Foxtails update... I have been doing all sorts of stuff for classes. I'll have to get the camera out and take some pictures as proof. I just need to find a way to get some more time open. It's sad cause I'm a bit behind on one assignment for my Illustrative Media class too. (I hate painting.) It'll be more sad if I'm actually able to transfer up to BYU too cause that class won't transfer up.

Just been a tiring, generally blah time here the last month.

A few good things did happen though. I finally got my bills caught up after five months of being behind. Family was finally able to find a Wii console. Metroid and Zelda will be had. Oh yes they will. (Of course, with my track record with video games, I prolly won't play it much after the first week of getting those games. Yes, I still haven't gotten past things like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and XII, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2... I'm horrible about playing games.) And I was able to get my DirecTV turned back on. Comcast basic cable really sucks.

So all in all, it had been an interesting September. Tiring, but ok overall. I'll be happy when I'm done with all the "art" type classes. I want to get into the animation classes already. And I'm tired of lugging art supplies all over campus too.

Yes, my last final for the summer is finished and the semester is officially over for me. It was a good semester. After so many false starts on getting school going again, it's nice to actually get through a semester and not have anything major cause it to crumble to the ground. Fall semester starts in like 2 weeks so I have a little bit of time "off" but things will be back into full swing again soon so things will be interesting around here.

With all the silliness of the last week of school and the vacation time, I've been WAY off on artstuffs. I need to get working on the colors for the last Neverwonder page as well as get the drawings for the next page done up as well. I should be back on schedule again after this week.

I've also go a bunch of things that I need to post here since the last things... I've got the rest of the Drawing I picts and then a bunch of sketch things and some artwork that I found in the boxes from the stuff that I had out in California. I'll be getting all that into the computer and posted as soon as I can.

Hope everyone else out there is having a good week. More later.

Wow, come back from being gone for a week and have a pile of deviations, messages and emails to look through. The world was busy this last week!

SoCal was excellent. Spent lots of time at Disneyland. Ate lots of good food. Ate lots of McDonald's for lunch. Got a few nice things from the House of Mouse. Clothes mostly. Got my Annual Passport back again too. Not sure if I'll use it again this year, but if I ever end up in SoCal, I'll have it and it'll be ready. It was good though. It saved us from having to pay for parking every day (Two cars x $11/day x 5) and we got great discounts on foodstuffs and souvenirs, so the upgrade from the 4-Day Park Hopper passes we had was well worth it.

San Diego was good too. Only spent one day down at SDCC this year. I got a Jack Sparrow poster for my mom and then I ended up just buying art supplies. No toys this year though. But that's ok. I needed the supplies more than I need toys.

I was also able to finally get all the rest of my stuff out of storage in Cali. The stuff has been there since 2002. It's nice to see some things that I had completely forgotten about. It's nice to see some things that I had been waiting to get back. Like my Newton Messagepad 120 and my Sonoda Kenichi artbook. I have piles and piles of stuff all over my bedroom floor. It'll take a bit to clean it all up and sort through it all.

Now I just have to try to catch up on things. I have the last Neverwonder page to color. I have my final version of my Art History paper to write. I have a drawing for my Driwing I class that I need to do in addition to the normal in-class stuff now because of the time I was out. And I'm sure something will have exploded at work. It usually does.

It'll take a bit to catch back up... I'm sure I'll have more when I get things caught back up again.

This coming weekend is going to be a bit off, but very needed. Today is always a rough day around my house. Seven years ago today, my younger brother Jeff passed away. I've never had too much of a hard time emotionally with his passing, but it's still a rough thing on my parents. So it's more of a somber atmosphere at home today. But, to try to help keep folks minds off that, the world here is heading off for some good times in SoCal.

First, this week is San Diego Comic-Con. I'll be down there this year on Friday, unlike the last few years when I've been there for the whole week. The main reason being is that my family is going on a vacation for the first time since 1988. Yes, that's 19 years. We'll be heading down to Disneyland on Thursday morning. While the rest of the fam is at Disneyland on Friday, I'll be down at SDCC and then I'll be back up in Anaheim for the rest of the week until August 1st. It'll be nice to have a bit of a vacation when I won't have to worry about mucn of anything for a week.

I'm not exactly sure what will be happening with next week's comic. I'll have to see if I have time to get something good going. It may be more of a Neverwonder meets Real Life type thing... Like Alice and Luna riding the Tea Cups. Or Hopper and Kairi on Splash Mountain. I'm not sure yet. We'll see how the weekend goes and I'l take it from there.

For those of you who will be down at SDCC, we'll see y'all there!

So, first off, I've got a new CSS layout. I'll be testing it a bit here for the next little bit, but it should be ok.

Next, with school, the first Summer block finally ended and I got grades back. Fortunately I got an A in both of my classes. I was worried about my Philosophy class, but it all turned out ok. Did better than I thought. I wasn't really worried about Photography I though. I've done enough of that in my time. Second block has started and things will be a bit more painful this time around. I've got Drawing I, which should be ok, but I have an Art History class and I'm really bad at history. We'll see how that goes.

Finally, I was able to get the comic back on track. Things got thrown off with finals and term papers, but things are ok now. Hopefully I can keep on top of everything.

So my current subscription is coming to an end here tomorrow. No real money will be around for another week or so (first real paycheck in a LONG time), so I'll have to wait until then to renew my dA account.

Things otherwise are going ok. School is proving to be a lot of interesting. My Photography class is exactly as I figured it. I've done all this stuff before, so it's all fairly simple stuff. Taking Black and White picts for a change and then having to use actual film again is fun. Then my Philosophy class, Ethics and Values, is going good. I have a good teacher for it. There are a lot of teachers that make that class a drudgery. It's nice seeing one that has a bit of brains when it comes to teaching a class like that. (Granted, I have it a bit easier than most of the other students. I've lived through the Ethics and Values class a few times. Twice as the graphics person for the telecourse and once through a normal class that I never had a chance to finish cause they kept scheduling telecourse tapings in the middle of it.) Fortunately I know the subject matter batter than most of the other students. Whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen.

The only pain that I'm waiting on is to see if Financial Aid money for Summer is going to come through. For some silly reason, the school never gets summer figured out until AFTER the semester has started. So I'll be in a bit of a corner if they do something stupid and I don't get my money. If things work out, my Associates should be done in the Fall. And if things work out and I get all the money the guys at the Financial Aid office say I should, I'll be able to get all the supplies that I've been missing... including a new laptop. Nothing fancy. I just need something that I can take notes with and be able to do little projects on. I'm looking at the low-end or middle Macbook. We'll have to see if that works out. I'm hoping so.

Then there's work. It's sooooooo nice to be doing print stuff again. I'm loving the fact that there's a bunch of different things that I get to do with my new job and the fact that they are used to students being in the job, so I can work around my class schedule. Of course, it's strange to be working on the other side this time. I've worked so much at UVSC where I've been going to school. To be working at BYU makes things a lot more interesting. The atmosphere is totally different. There's a lot more intellegence over at BYU. And the benefits are much better than over at UVSC.

Overall, things are going ok for a change. Now it's time to get back to this week's Neverwonder drawings.

So, a pile of stuff has happened since I last wrote here. Things ended up not working out as well as I had hoped in Chicago. That combined with some personal and financial reasons, I decided to move back home. What exactly caused all this to happen I don't really want to talk much about, since I'm trying to just move past it all and get on with life, but I know that it was time to move on.

Beyond the move, I've not done much artstuffs lately. Reason? Well, since I'm looking at the prospect of having to push freelance work in nothing permanent comes up, I forced myself to finally finish the Skyfall website that I've been attempting to work on for the last year and a half. I stopped all the other "extra" stuff that I wanted to do and made myself just take the time and get it done. It was time consuming, especially the gathering of work samples across 16 years of CD and DVD backups, but I finally got it all finished. For the curious, you can see it at [link].

Now I'm going to take a bit of a break, finish up some work requests that I need to get done ( I've got your updates first!) and then I've got a concept for a drawing that I hope I can pull off. I think it could be really cool if I can execute it properly, but only time will tell now.

Other than that, just trying to keep life going. How about you?

Today and tomorrow I have no work. I hate being in a freelance position and to have whole days where there's no work. It sucks, beyond the fact that no work means no pay. I've been working on some things that will hopefully be able to bring some extra cash in, but I need to get them done first. I'm working on getting the GeoFront site redesigned and getting some generic website templates designed so I can try to sell some quick, cheap sites to people that just need a generic site done but don't have a lot of cash. Hopefully I can finish that this week. It's hard to work on your own sites.

Beyond that, it's been a rough time trying to find the energy to draw anything lately so I decided that instead of just letting the site sit dormant, I'd post some photography. I dug though a bunch of things and found some interesting shots from various times. And then I got to playing around with the camera this morning too, so there's a variety of things. Mostly outdoor scenes. I did that so I could see how the Prints functionality works. Not that I ever expect anyone to actually buy a print of anything that I do, but just in case someone decides to have a lapse of judgement and actually does want one, it's there.

Ok. This is the generic sketch for another of the Sunsword characters, Cassandra. Cassi is the character that is the representation of the positive in the balance of power, being the "light" side. Her opposite, the "dark" side, is Banshee (and I KNOW that she's going to be a fun one to concept and draw...). And I'm stuck on my usual problem... her hand. Her left hand is ok I think since she's holding her weapon in that hand. It's that durned right hand... Going to have to do a bit of practicing and observing for this one... one of these decades I'll get this down.

So a few people have asked me how some of this CSS stuff works on the deviantART journals. So I decided to create a little page with some details on how my journal is set up so people can get a bit of understanding as to how CSS works here. If you want to see the page, you can find it here:

http://www.atomicfoxtail.com/da/journal_css.html

The page has an example of my Journal design along with the CSS code that does it and a callout section so you can see which parts of the CSS code correspond with which elements on the page.
Hopefully this will help a few people get the knack of how the CSS is set up on here.
So the last few weeks, there's been a creative funk hanging over the house... I think it came when my poor car died. It threw life off quite a bit. Had to start waking up much earlier to get to work in the mornings cause I had to take the bus to get to work until a car solution was found. All the walking to the bus stop and then walking from the bus stop just to get to work kinda wore me out each day. (50 minutes of walking isn't something that normally in my daily schedule...) Fortunately a new car was gotten, by some miracle, and things are getting better time-wise. At least I'm not overly tired all the time now from having to get up 2 hours earlier in the morning.

With that, I finally had the time to finish up the sketch I started like 2 weeks ago. It wasn't anything in particular when I started it. I had been looking at a lot of 's artwork (her Chance/Postal art is some killer stuff! Go check her out!) and was a bit inspired there with I first started on it. It ended up being the cute little Mouse Girl that I posted earlier today. As I was playing around with different styles for her mouth, it came out looking either rabbit-ish or mouse-ish. I decided to go with mouse so she could have a coolie tail. Rabbit would have had cool ears, but no visible tail in the pict. The tail helped balance out the drawing a bit. I think her face is still a little off though, (I think it's her eyes...) but it was just a sketch. Original stuff still has that kinda "off" look to it, but I can't complain really. It was a different pose than I usually do. I was trying to study the pose so I can work on changing things up with my original drawings. Just more stuff to practice.

It's amazing to see how far one has come over a long period of time.

I was moving some stuff last weekend between storage units and I came across a good pile of the artwork I did while I was in the Philippines. Now mind you, when I was down there, I had little to no access to a computer, so the only creative outlet I had was drawing. I'd have friends throw things at me and say "Hey, can you draw this?" and I'd look at it and say, "Uuuhhhhh, suuure, but i'm not very fast. It may take me a while."

Drawings back then used to take me forever. And then there's the concept of coloring. My coloring skills back in 1996 were ok for the time.

I'm very glad that I've had some good opportunities to color things in the years since then. My coloring of the Dreamtime portion of the comic series Elfquest was prolly the best thing that I could have done to help further my coloring skills. Granted, there are some things that I've learned since even then that I'd do different nowadays, but it was a good starting point.

I look at the first piece that I've recolored, the action pose of Gohan from Dragonball Z, and I have to be happy with the results and how far I've come in 10 years. There are plenty of more places that I need to practice, but for the time I've given to being artistic, I think I'm doing ok.

Beyond that, the coloring has been the only artistic thing that I've been able to do for the last few weeks. I just started a new freelance gig out here and that's been eating up some of my time, but I've been running around non-stop for the last few weeks it seems. Sleep deprivation is never a good thing... And sleep ends up eating up art time. I guess I just need to get things going in a manageable pattern and then I'll have some good time to do some doodlin'.

In other news, my car finally decided to eat itself. The engine, which has been having problems for the last year and a half due to an accident, finally gave up. It's been a good car for the time I've had it. 7 years and 149,000 miles. It's been around. Now I need to figure out if it's worth it to fix it (I'm doubting it) or if I need to get something new (where I'm leaning right now). That will be the next big life project.

Other than that, just kinda here. I'll have to see if I can get some creative juices going and come up with something new...

This weekend was a rather slow one. I was happy to have a holiday (though having been out of work for the last few months, what's a holiday when you're running unemployed?) but there was some lethargic funk hanging around. As a result, little to nothing got done this last weekend. I kinda half started a couple of drawings, but never had the energy to finish them up. I guess there are just weekends that turn out that way.

I'm back to working some freelance though, so that's a good thing. After having no real work leads for the last 6 months pan out, having something is a good thing. And the company is cool, so it's all good.

Hopefully I'll have some time to do some doodling this week and finish up the drawings that I already started.

Yeah.

So I was finally able to find my How To Draw Manga books. They were hidden in a box, burried kinda in the back of the storage unit. Now at least I have a bit of reference material for getting back into form for all this drawring stuff.

Other than that, it's been a slow week. Need to get some doodlin' done over the long weekend.

I had been digging though a bunch of really old files a few weeks back and came across something that I had done when I was like 10 years old. It was a simple drawing of Link from the Legend of Zelda series. Back in the day when Link looked kinda goofy... It was ok for the time.

(Note: Scanners sucked back then too.)

I've done quite a bit of fan art since then, but my latest thing online today is quite a departure from that simple little thing 20 years ago. Granted, Link has "grown up" over the last 20 years too. That's not a bad thing. I like the design of the current Link a lot more than the old original art.

I saw the Oni Link down in San Diego at SDCC. The concept looked really cool. I didn't think I'd do a drawing of it, but I was bored after a long day of insomnia. It's been a while since I've done any fan art, so it's not necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I think it turned out rather well. I hope everyone else out there likes it.

--------------------

EDIT: I just did some poking around and found that the Oni Link came from Majora's Mask. Yet another game that I've started but never finished, so I've never seen the poor Oni mask... Maybe I'll finish it someday.

After getting a comment from my friend Jan over on my Livejournal, I was thinking of how much I've forgotten from the last time I did anything that resembled regular art. I've pretty much done strictly design work for the last 10 years. I thought back and the last time I really did any traditional art type stuff was back 10 years ago when I was living in the Philippines.

Now, that was more out of necessity I think. When I was in the Philippines, I didn't have a computer or Internet access, so I had to do something to keep my creativity going. That's where a bulk of the stuff in my gallery right now comes from.

Sure, in the last 10 years, I've doodled and sketched little things that I never kept, cause they were just goofy little doodles. Never really worth too much, at least artistically.

More importantly, this is a direction that I wasn't able to go back when I was in college. Life and work pushed me into the graphic design arena and I've never had much chance to look back. Now that I have some time on my side, and that I know that design is getting a bit stale as far as "passion" levels are concerned, I think I really need this. If only to be a break from the "norm".

The Corinne art turned out better than I expected. I've been looking at lot at the artwork by a friend of mine, Robert DeJesus, and a lot of inspiration has come from there. (Shameless plug: Bob's art can be found here.) I have the sketch for another Sunsword character mostly done, the design for Ka'la. Once I have time to finish it up and then ink it, I'll be on here.

For now, enjoy my old stuff. Hopefully it gets better from here.
