Anyways, just updated my gallery with a bunch of photos I took while me and a friend were out at Muriwai beach. We got there just in time for the kickass sunset so decided to bust out the cameras.
Great fun, until I lost my wallet a couple miles down the beach and didn't know about it til we got back to the car.
What followed was a trek all the way back to search for it, following our footprints with a torch. By the time we found it (tide had just reached it) and stumbled back to the car we then found out the carpark closes at 9:30 with a late exit fee of $60 for any car locked in past that time.... we made it back to the car at 9:45.

That sucked, but I think the shots I got were worth the trouble.

Ok so just a small update. I think i'm really starting to get back into my painting groove. Managed to bust one out today, and also did a three-panel piece about a couple weeks back which i'll try get pics of to post.

Also found out Agalloch is fucking awesome music to listen to when painting.

So yeah.

Besides the fact that I'm still alive (kind of, WoW has consumed me yet again), I've also bought a car. Like 5 years too late, but still, I NOW HAVE A CAR!
Finally it's time to get out there and stop scrounging rides off everyone else, lol.
Not to mention I can now get Wendy's to eat WHENEVER I WANT. Thats the important thing.
Oh and to also visit friends more often, EH KAT!

Ok so I'm back from Wellington, where I cruised the red carpet for the King Kong premiere.

It. Was. Badass.

Theres just something about walking the red carpet with random ppl behind the fences screaming at you and saying "OMG HI 2 U!" that just makes you feel like a star even when you're not. I guess also, the fact that with people like Peter Jackson and the rest of the cast walking it with you kinda adds to the feeling.

Anyways, on to how I actually managed to walk the carpet.
Work's head office (I work at the movies) was holding a competiton amongst all the cinemas in the country to make a King Kong foyer display to promote the movie, and the grand prize for first place was a trip for the staff who worked on it to go to the red carpet premiere in Welly, all expenses paid. Second prize was what we wanted though, $700 for the social club so we could throw a kickass end of year work party.
So naturally, good ol' Westgate cinemas pulled it off and came first.

WESTIES - 1, REST OF COUNTRY - 0.

Oh yeah.
Anyone who watched the build-up on TV had better of seen me in my stylin' suit doing the wink 'n point at the cameras or there'll be hell to pay.

But yeah. It rocked. My main mission was to propose to Naomi Watts and eventually take the party back to the hotel room, but unfortunately I didn't succeed in that goal. Her loss. But I did come away with Gollum's (Andy Serkis, who completely rules) and Karl Urban's (Eomer from LOTR, and Reaper from Doom) signatures. I shook Karl's hand too. He's the man. I would have gotten more, but at the afterparty (oh yes, we partied after the movie) all the really famous people like PJ, Adrien, Naomi, Andy, and the rest of the cast had their own little party upstairs with security goons guarding the doors so I never had a chance, although Andy and Karl did come down to mingle at which point I seized the opportunity.

We also had photo opportunities with random famous NZ'ers like Dan Carter, Jackie Brown, Jon Toogood from Shihad, Marc Ellis, Dave Dobbyn, and ex-prime minister Jim Bolger. On ya Jim.

But still, it was an awesome thrill to be sitting in the Embassy Theatre watching King Kong (which totally fucking RULES) and having the actual cast sitting in the same room as you. The atmosphere was incredible, with the Weta Workshop crew roaring and clapping after every highly CG'd scene. And having everyone cheer and scream names every time one of the stars made their first appearance on screen. "YEAHH!! NAAAAOOOOMMMIII!!!! MARRY MEEEEE!!!" Something like that. Or maybe that was just me.

Anyhoo, all in all it was an amazing experience, mostly because work paid for it all and we had a good time at their expense, but also because four average ordinary people who just work at the cinemas got to mingle with the A-List crowd and feel famous for just one day.

Couple more things, if you haven't seen King Kong yet, stop reading this and go watch it. It'll blow you away and make you cry all at the same time, it's that damn good.
And to Peter Jackson, you've done it again, not just making another blockbuster, but doing New Zealand proud. Apologies for the HUGE lack of updates recently, I had a few things taking up my time over the last few months. But now that I finally have my studio set up I can maybe start posting some of my paintings and sketches that i'll be doing in the future, and maybe still the odd bit of digital art on occasion.

It's one of those songs that just makes an impact on you, so full of emotion and atmosphere, you can't help but get sucked into it.
It's one of those songs that you can listen to over and over and not get sick of.
It's inspired me countless times in my work, and cheered me up even more whenever i've felt down.
It's just one of those songs.

Happy birthday to meeeeee....
So I turned 21 today but I don't feel any different, except for the ever-so-slight hangover I think i'm suffering, but meh, it's expected

Had parties on both Friday AND Saturday nights, with last nights (saturday) one being the biggest and most fun-filled. Oh yes.
So yeah, I was told to either do a yardy or 21 shots. I went for the shots.
Big mistake, let's just say i'll be staying the hell away from vodka for a very long time.

I even tried spreading them out over the course of the night, and occasionally got caught and told off for drinking water to sober up, but I DID kinda want to be awake to see my own party, lol.
So, I think i only managed to down about 9 or 10 of them before I started feeling the effects (craploads of beer + vodka shots = bad).

On a good day that number would probably be doubled. So in-between serving and keeping myself upright and awake, I had to find things to do, like cleaning, or... cleaning... SOMETHING.

But i managed to survive somehow. I was like MacGyver, in a "no escape" situation, but managed to come out alright by putting what little materials i had to good use.

And for some reason, when i was out back cleaning a wall (of all things), the words "Fear the butterflies of war" just popped into my head, so i'm taking that as a sign that MacGyver, wherever he may be, is watching over me in my time of need and lending me inspiration.
Just to what end this inspiration is and means, i'll never know, but it sounds cool. And weird. And weird is cool. ]]> ~temporarypeace
