Lookie lookie at what was found on BinRev, a hacker community:

*LOL*
Alright, so I might sound a little ranty here but I'm sure you would too... So last night I decided I would poke around deviantart, I get to the message center and notice in the url ?to=<who> where <who> is a username. Deviantart is nice enough to fill that in for you. Guess what? They don't parse that, so then I proceed to craft my special url. That url is:

[link]

Alright I figure, neat they suck at programming and I'll be nice and fill them in on this oftenly overlooked hole. I proceed to go into the chatroom they have set up called #seniors, and ask if any developers are around. A fellow by the name of Blue-Six responds stating he's a developer. I then tell him I've discovered an XSS vulnerability and posted the URL to him. Guess what then proceeded to happen? Yep, I get kicked from the chatroom with a message stating I fail. I fail at what? Your shitty coding fails. So I figure alright, maybe I can submit it under the help/site bugs. I proceed to do that, send them a message stating it would be possible to take over users sessions with javascript and this XSS vulnerability. What response do I get? None, I wake up this morning browse on over to deviantart.com and what is it I see? Site not found. I forget about it for awhile and come back, launch tor and whala! Site loads, vulnerabilities and all. Why are people such idiots? I'm trying to help you out, and you ban me from your crappy service? Well screw you, I'm not trying to be nice anymore, and I'm releasing your mistakes.

Back to the vulnerability and enough ranting... I'm pretty sure you can do the usual passing users cookies to off site script. So uhm, enjoy?

In English, hackers will make you click on a link that looks like it's a DA-link and harvest your cookie, then be able to log in as you. And DA doesn't only refuse to fix it, they BAN the person who was trying to make them aware of this serious security problem.
This was in Oktober and nothing has been done.

More info here: [link]

Don't shoot the messenger btw, this information was already released in a hacker community last month.
Hopefully DA will be unable to ignore it any longer if it gets some publicity.

Though I won't be surprised if I get banned for pointing out not only their flaws but unwillingness to do anything about it.

Don't be fooled into thinking that copying or reposting art is legal, you own the copyright to something the moment you create something original. It doesn't need to be registered to be valid, it just needs to be registered when you take it to court.

I have questions about portfolio's, I mean the regular kind and not the kind drawn specifically for 'furry consumption'.

I really would like answers from people who have some experience with them, either from friends, from (art)schools or from making and using themselves. I've read up on the topic on various sites so I am familiar with some of the demands a portfolio has to meet.

Naturally it needs art, I imagine it needs different kinds of subjects and media or needs to be made to specifically meet the needs of a prospective employer (PE). How many pieces is the minimum? How many is the maximum? I've read that it might be wise to add a little description to each imagine, wether it was commissioned or not, a piece for a contest, what inspired it, what it was made with etc. Should you put the "good" new pieces up front or in the back? But How long is a PE's attentionspan? How do you keep it?
I know you'll need "disposable" portfolio's to send to PE, I know they shouldn't look cheap because cheap looking portfolio's say "unsuccesful artist" which doesn't only hurt your chances of getting a job but I imagine it could also influence your pay if they do decided to hire you. Also, how much of a risk is there that PE's will just use whatever image from your portfolio without your knowledge to try and avoid having to pay for it? Does that risk increase with digital portfolio's (cd's)?
Information-wise, does it needs anything other than your name/picture/info/address/cv? Is there anything I should specifically put in? Or should purposefully leave out?

Any good/bad/entertaining experiences you want to share? Anything?

*** THIS IS NOT A JOKE/PRANK! I HEARD THIS FROM THE ADMINISTRATORS AND THEY CONFIRMED IT TO ME! THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE STRANGE MEMES OF "YOU HAVE BEEN HUGGED"! PLEASE READ ***

This following message is really really important, see? It's written in all caps! it will <s>altar</s> alter the rest of your life!11!one!1

DeviantArt is going to CHARGE ALL USERS (regardless of paying or non-paying) US $24.99/month in a few months' time! As you can see this is an OUTRAGE and a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. We shouldn't be charged for things that had been coming to us free in THE FIRST PLACE.

OMG, there's this rumor.. I mean, uber-true message going around that's been confirmed by the admins, or so my sister's boyfriend uncle's gay gardener told me so, that DA is going to STEAL YOUR MONEY (even though it's not possible since they don't have your creditcard number if you have a free account and it's legally not allowed to charge for something without notice). IT IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY TO DEPRIVE THE MASSES OF MY BORED-IN-MAFF-WITH-GELPEN DOODLES!! They shouldn't charge us money to provide us with a virtual dumpingspace where we upload every glob of snot we picked out of our heavenly talented noses even though it probably costs a ton of cash to keep this monster of a site on-line as it grows every day like some mutant caterpillar.

Only you can do something about this. To prevent this, pass this message on the front page of 15 people you feel should know more about this. It doesn't matter if they are a friend or complete stranger since EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW. If you can pass this to more people THE BETTER!

Yes! EVERYONE needs to know just how gullible and stupid you are to believe this tripe. Also, I'm a prince in Nigeria and I need someone to help me smuggle 20 million Euro's out of the country. This transaction is 100% risk free. Please maintain absolute confidentiality on this matter. Please reply to the above e-mail address.

Don't forget to send it back to the one who sent it to you!

Someone was laughing their head off until they realize just how many idiots believe this hogwash and were spammed to death. Death by spam! I will hack at your neck with the thin bit until the blood flows upon the cantine floor!

*** PLEASE HELP! ONLY WE CAN PREVENT FROM BEING CHARGED INDECENTLY BY A FREE ART SERVICE (ON THE INTERNET)! THANK YOU! ***

Up a thousand steps, some stone, some wood worn smooth with the footfall of the thousands of people who went before me. Light filtering from below between the steps doesn't even reach halfway up the narrow tight winding steps. Small locked and dirty windows provide only a little additional but required light. A heavy hemp rope offers a place to grab hold of should you feel uncertain of your foothold.

This is the new church of Delft, although some of the engravings in the heavy stone slates in the floor are marked to have been put there in 1609, not even the oldest of the many graves. So many are worn down to much that even deep carvings are impossible to read. Not so with the grave of Willem van Oranje Nassau, they call him the father of our country, credited with freeing our country from the Spanish, assassinated in front of this very church in 1584, the bullet holes still in the wall. His grave is a majestic tomb, one marble statue of him lying down with a resting dog at his feet, so realistic that he seems to be asleep, a heralding angel at his feet, and another statue of himself at his head. The same tomb the members of our royal family are buried, including our prince Claus who passed away so recently.

There's a small door to a first level, a narrow stone ledge surrounds the tower with larger area's at each corner, which offers a space for the spirals and decorations. At each corner there's a depression in the floor, and a hole for the rainwater to drain away, snarling gargoyles served to scare away demons as well. A heavy stone parapet offers a place to lean on, or hold on to.

Plain windows make way for tall beautifully decorated stained glass windows inside the church the further you go back, each depicting a scene from the bible. A short description is written underneath each depiction, still on the glass, in old Dutch. The coloured glass provides a much more muted light than in the front of the church, where the actual services are held. A great many heavy wooden benches lined up for the believers.

A second level, an even more lofty view of the surrounding area. The market, the old church, the old city hall, people's backyards, a school's playing ground. The parapet becomes more and more scarred, the visitors it protects from a free fall to the rooftop or streets below become more and more bold about scratching their name into the old stone despite the signs telling them it's strictly forbidden. Then again, the signs themselves bear many marks of people who climbed the tower before me.

The organ covers most of the wall closest to the entrance, it's size is amazing, making visitors feel intimidated and dwarfed, it's impossible to imagine how someone could play this huge metal monster that looms over it's onlookers. Or to imagine how it sounds for that matter, it must be overwhelming. It must shake the foundations.

There's the top of the staircase, the final level, by now I'm out of breath and strands of hair stick to my forehead and in my neck with sweat, not all because of the exercise. The final ledge is almost impossibly narrow, I keep my back pressed tightly against the wall, a strong wind tugs at my loose hair, my legs feel weak. The top of the old church in Delft is not a happy place for someone with a fear of heights, though I'm not sure if it's the same fear of heights other people have. It's the same as my mother, she was crossing a high bridge when she heard a voice in her mind say "Go on, jump, it's easy, you can just climb over the railing.", I have it too, like when I get too close to the edge of the platform at the station and a train rushes by, it could be so easy to step off.

I carefully peer over the edge, down at the street. Nervous, shaking, panting, sweating, the voice stays silent.

Victory.

What the hell do damsels in distress have to do with a snake licking a mongoose? And it's a female, I know she looks like a guy, but she isn't. My fault, I guess I am subconsciously a gay man in a woman's body!!
Like dude, I am so totally gay. Even though I'm really a woman and I have photo's of myself bodypainted in the same gallery, secondary gender features clearly showing, I am teh gay man, man. At least I don't sound like a trailer-park slut, does the air in your head make you float when you go swimming?
I left him a wee little comment so he can enjoy this post if he ever comes back to see if his comments have been removed.

I write the following rant in light of my recently ended 'anything goes' commission auction, which paid off greatly (Thanks ^-^).

I know that whatever you do, there will always be people who object, either with their or your best interests at heart, whether they're misguided or not. My willingness to drawn sick/perverted things (for money) is no exception.
One time I e-mailed an artist I admired, he looked my name up on looked at my archive, then told me I shouldn't give into peer pressure to draw adult things.

I wonder if it ever crossed his mind that I may have wanted and enjoyed drawing them. I mean, I appreciate the sentiment I guess, but I'm not a hapless little girl who can't stand up to people who tell me "hurrhuurr I Liek UR art, drawr m3 pr0nn yes?/???/".
All too often 'clean' artists express their distaste of and pity towards artists who draw adult things. They think that because they don't want to draw adult things the other artists must have been forced or manipulated into it somehow.

Which isn't always untrue, on to the money bit. Some people thought it odd that I charge extra for commissions with adult content. What's the alternative? I could refuse completely. Drawing 'porn' is harder than one might think, it often involves two or more characters getting very close and intimate, it's hard to make it look natural and comfortable and enjoyable. Plus I try to avoid cliche poses and the like. Also, I might not like that particular kink and I might refuse unless the buyer is willing to make it worth my wiles. I can do that, I'm the only Thaily around, no-one has started ripping off my style yet, there's no cheaper alternative but other artists with a different style etc.

Ofcourse an 'anything goes' auction raises an eyebrow here and there, especially when there's a lot of money being bid, there's bound to be some grumbling from the peanut gallery.

But you know, if someone doesn't want to draw adult things that's their right. If they make enough money so they don't have to depend on the extra income of drawing adult things, that's good for them. However, some of us don't have that liberty. Some of us have to take what they can get, even if it means drawing two humping doggies or whatever.

Personally I find it extremely disrespectful towards artists like me to tell us not to draw adult things, even if you're getting good money for it, because you're compromising your artistic integrity or it's immoral. You know what's more important to me than what other people think of my 'artistic integrity'? Eating, I've gotten into the habit of eating at least two meals a day in order to y'know, not weaken and die.

Then comes the unimaginative reply of "Why don't you get a job?", like all porn-artists are jobless slobs, buried in a pile of empty soda cans and their own filth, scraping yesterday's wad of spooge from their hands in preparation of drawing more sick and twisted fantasies so they can sell it to other perverts and buy more porn rags and twinkies.
I have a job, so does the majority of the furry artists, because furry art does not pay that well. You may be awed by a commission that sells for a hundred bucks, but compared to the time and effort an artist puts into it, some may be better off with a second job. Why do I still sell commissions? Because I can only get a few hours a week for minimum wage, in fact, starting next week I'm going from 5 hours to 3 hours. Try and pay the bills with that.
I swear every time someone asks me "Don't you have a job?" it makes me want to stab them in the face, multiple times. Especially when it's people who still live at home and are fed and clothed by their mother, or people who make a good deal of money. Sure they work for it, but they should also keep in mind that there's people with less marketable skills or are just less fortunate.

Bitch bitch bitch. My point is, if you don’t want to and don’t have to draw things you may not like just to help pay the bills, don’t piss on the parade of people who do.

Paying the bills and being able to eat takes precedence of my 'artistic integrity' any day.
