"Summertime - an' the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
and I ride through the rain..."

Best interpretation to be listened to by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding company performed live at Winterland in '69 (or '68, can't remember).

No that is no complain, though I'll be soaking wet in about 10 minutes.
Do you know that feeling of warm summer rain on your skin? Well exactly that. Of course I could wait until it stops raining (the weathermen tell me) for another 8 to 10 days , but I think, I'll get my bicycle home now.

The songs endlessly repeating in my ears:

1) Nighttime at home: David Bowie - My Death
[I should get some Jaques Brel albums and learn more about his work]

2) On the bicycle: Enrico Caruso - Ah! Tout est bien fin!… O Souverain, o Judge, o Pere! (Massenet: Le Cid )

3) In the tub: Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez: Ebben? ... Ne andrò lontana (Catalani: La Wally)

4) On sundays and when feeling sundayish: The Cramps - Human Fly (Bzzzzzz) and The Cramps - I'm the Garbageman

Favorite phrase:

"You chit of a woman!"

I dare not to apply it - for I do not want to argue about spelling and pronunciation with my nose smashed. I found it in Tom Sharpe's "The Throwback" and have ever since been fascinated by this choice of words.

Sorry for my slackness and behindlagness when it comes to dA and making or answering comments, favs etc. So once again: Thank you all! You are welcome, and you more than deserve it should I fav one of your deviations...

Rules
1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question even if it doesn’t make sense. NO CHEATING!
4. Don't tag 5 people.
5. With the answers, give your own comments on how it relates to the questions.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY?
"I want your love" - Transvison Vamp
Always true, but on some days I want your money, stars, books etc., too.

WILL YOU GET FAR IN LIFE?
"Three little fishes" - Nat Gonella and his Georgians
Not good, reads that I will get far, way out in the ocean, but only to meet a shark. So, dear fate, let that shark be good looking.

HOW DO YOUR FRIENDS SEE YOU?
"Faraway Voice" - Katie Melua
Phone is always an option, isn't it!

WILL YOU GET MARRIED?
"Recitar! ...Vesti la Giubba" - Enrico Caruso
Wedding dress by Gucci? Spelling problems! Brand pirates?

WHAT IS YOUR BEST FRIEND'S THEME SONG?
"Corcovado" - Astrud and Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz
Gosh! And me always thought he was in mind blankening metal.

WHAT IS THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE?
"London Rain" - Heather Nova
I like the thing about being in bed all day.

WHAT WAS HIGH SCHOOL LIKE?
"Kiss their sons" - Transvision Vamp
Does sound more like a catholic priest seminar in Austria! Anyway: if it was like that, I'm delighted I don't remember details.

HOW CAN YOU GET AHEAD IN LIFE?
"Ich schoss den Teddy" - Herbert Knebel und sein Affentheater
(a German Comedians parody on "I shot the sheriff", here a senior citizen wins a teddy at a parish fair)
So I can aim and do my best, even if I shot the wrong person.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS?
"Walk this world" - Heather Nova
I'm not precisely prejudiced against ghosts, zombies, intergalactical superintelligencies, but it is easier to cope with friends on this planet.

WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THIS WEEKEND?
"Halfway up the Hindu Kush" - Katie Melua
Hey! This is utmost useful! Those fuckheads of the German Bundeswehr have not informed me so far that I have to fight for Germany's freedom in Afghanistan. I won't do any cooking this time! I want an automatic gun and my own a tank or even better my own opium field and lots of days off!

TO DESCRIBE YOUR GRANDPARENTS?
"Sex im Alter" - Herbert Knebel
("Sex in old age")
Rabbits, I tell you! Never tired, always horny! (Poor old Granny "Marie Engel", she did not deserve this comment, would die if she hadn't already.)
[How does this work? I always suspected the shuffle mode to have a not very well hidden intelligence, but I just can't make out the rules ...]

HOW IS YOUR LIFE GOING?
"Auferstanden aus Ruinen" (Hymn of former GDR)
("Revived from ruins and facing the future ...")
The most optimistic answer so far. The worst lies behind me, now just some decades of tyranny and I'll be free and get my "greeting money" and have a common past with personalities like Angela Merkel.

WHAT SONG WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL?
"Misslungene Kinder"
("Miscarried Children" most cruel satire about how to abase children with unwanted featured or disabilities etc.)
Now? Serves me right! If I hear such wonderful non pc garbage they can also play it at my funeral.

HOW DOES THE WORLD SEE YOU?
Aria from La Wally (Catalani) - Wilhelmina Wiggins Fernandez (Soprano)
Rather pathetic, but has his qualities.

WILL YOU HAVE A HAPPY LIFE?
"Helden (German Version)" - David Bowie
Yes, hun! We can be heroes, but just for day? Shan't we extend it at least to the night?

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS REALLY THINK OF YOU?
"Spider's Web" - Katie Melua
And if they're entrapped in my net, I'll fumigate them to have food in the winter.

DO PEOPLE SECRETLY LUST AFTER YOU?
"Breakaway" - The Creamers
Their passion is to run away from me, but they can't (because of my Spiderman's Web? I slip deeper and deeper into strange practices).

HOW CAN I MAKE MYSELF HAPPY
"Ball and Chain" - Janis Joplin
Again a bonding motive. Now I'll tie myself to my victims and then complain about it.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WITH YOUR LIFE?
"I cover the waterfront" - John Lee Hooker with Van Morrison
Whatfor? Prevent the US to land at the banks of the 2-10m wide "river" Niers? Should erase that from the player. Besides I'll be in Afghanistan, forgot? Afair there is no water front there.

WILL YOU EVER HAVE CHILDREN?
"The Sweetest Taboo" -...

Hiho!

Now this should interest you! You want to read all of it! Something absolutely unique in the history of finer arts and you do not even have to like books or even poems to love this. I write about the most bewildering career ever made in literature and for me about the greatest female German poet ever.

Yesterday 103 years ago (I have been not fast enough to start this sentence with "today") Friederike Kempner died. She is exactly that Friederike Kempner I mention as my favorite poet in my DA profile. She has been very famous in her time but today scarcely anybody knows her.

She was born in 1828 (she called it 1836 ) in Reichthal, then Preussen, today Rychtal, Poland. Her parents owned a little manor ("Rittergut" = "knight's property") where she lived all her life. Never married she soon discovered her talent and love for poetry at the age of about 40.

She wrote a lot of wonderful poems and then went to find a publisher, but nobody was willing to publish her book. The market was not ready for the profound thought of a middle aged spinster. Instead of giving up she decided to be her own agent, publisher and bookseller. Her tiny book sold not too well. That was in 1873 and when the story slowly began.

Because one day one of the authors of a well known literature magazine discovered her. Instead of putting the "rubbish" away he read more careful and found in Friederike's poetry something so far nobody had noticed. The poems were often quite funny, obviously without the poets intention. He wrote an article praising the book, Friederike and her "involuntary humor", recommending the book, putting it in the set books. When the issue of the magazine, called "Gegenwart" ("present tense"), came out sales improved. No, they did not improve, they exploded.

All Germany, intelligentsia and not so intelligentsia loved her poems, got in highest spirits reciting them and rolling to laugh their ass off. Friederike got lots of fan mail encouraging her to go on, praising her, calling her "die Schlesische Nachtigall" (the Silesian nightingale) and even "der Schlesische Schwan" (the Silesian swan). And that is the nick she got famous under.

Even though I don't intend to write about her poetry I simply cannot avoid giving an example of her fine art (with translation):

Kepler

Du sahest herrliche Gesichte
In finstrer Nacht,
Ein ganzes Blatt der Weltgeschichte:
Du hast es vollgemacht!

Kepler

You saw superb visages
In dark night,
A whole page of world history:
you have filled it.

Well, not so bad, only that the verb "vollmachen" in the last verse is most often used not in the sense of "to fill" but in a sense of "to soil" (as in "to soil one's diaper/nappy") or drool (on something for example on a clean tablecloth). In a poem you would expect that poor Johannes Kepler would perhaps have written a whole page of something or enriched or ennobled it with his deeds ..., but no: Friederike without even noticing manages it with a single word to turn the famous astronomer, mathematician and theologian into a drooling idiot spreading his fluids all over a page in the dignified book of world history.

But Friederike was no one trick pony; even in this short poem we meet one other of her uncountable stylistic devices: Johannes Kepler, a genius who at this moment is dealt with in more that 50 different languages in the Wikipedia, is good for four (in numbers: 4) verses. Her father's study got 20 verses, her parrot Jakob was worth several poems with a total of more than 40 verses - though that was later, when the bird was late (he died on the 15th of November 1890) - or just pining for the fjords. And if you look closely at the above poem, there is even room enough for a third stylistic trick, one very commonly used in her lyric. Nobody would know what the whole poem is about without the title. And that title is often in sharp contrast to what you would expect or think of if it was omitted.

Other stylistic devices of her repertoire were to create new words or connections of words, to use poetic forms of words where they were both wrong and unnecessary, to stick to strange topics, to use images and change them amidst the poem, to cultivate her mental leaps ...

Now you can perhaps imagine why all Germany was pleased with Friederike, "Genius of the involuntary humor". People had lots of laughs and good entertainment. All Ge...

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry I am in lazy mode right now and already have been for the last weeks, living in Leulaklekkerland. I do just a minimum, pile up comments to answer, deviations to watch and time to spent here.

Today, too, I 'll just like to say a "Thank you!"/You're welcome! to everyone, which this is. More will follow when I enter a more active mode again.

Only two important things stick out: the first is that I want to recommend [link] by ~prokofyev to you. I think it is the best ID I've ever seen in dA.

And then even more important: my best very first birthday wishes go little Leah, ~Resser's new born girl! Congrats!

Little update: Yeah! I've done one new pic! is this the turnaround?
Update 2: Haha, now only 51 deviations to watch - nope some stand for a whole gallery to watch because I erased all but one of some artists' deviations in my messages. So that will most likely be more than 150 deviations, but I have started to comment and have answered some comments.

Have a nice day, Joerg
Sunday was a mild and sunny day and so my idea of how to spent it included a trip to the cemetery Melaten in Cologne; certainly one of the most impressive cemeteries in all Germany. Lots of money is buried there, and I think of grave monuments and decoration when I mention this.

Of cause my idea was completely new, unique and unorthodox. Therefore it could not implicitly qualify as a surprise that my count of fellow photographers went up to four in the first ten minutes there and had reached a mind boggling fourteen when I left two hours later, could it?

Some were just taking out their expensive equipment for a walk, toying around with their shiny tripods and heavy camera bags, always looking for locations where they could be seen and not necessarily for the spots from which they would be able to take a quality shot. But most of the others really took photos and some even impressed me, because they were obviously not going for the graves, monuments, perspectives that "everyone" - especially first time visitors - would go for.

But back to numbers! Now add about seven, eight or even nine gay couples promenading there. Don't know if there is any special reason for it, but they happen to like that cemetery, too.

Sometimes I'm inclined to think that all this biorhythm apologists have their point.

Listen. Does this sound familiar? Last week I had this day when I woke up, smiled, knew at least the world belonged to me - if not more. I was just happy, without needing a special reason, peacefully floating on top of my bed and of life. Now if you're hit by such a start into the day, it will last some days. And that's called "glad".

Now this week had been a good week, it started with all kind of charms. But something must have gone wrong and that's precisely how it felt - somehow wrong. I started to be tired with the only excuse being that I had not slept for about 40 hours, earned pain in my back by carrying too heavy stocks, and felt generally miserable for no apparent reason. And that's called "bad".

Now if that's happened to you, don't let this. I ignored all signs, though I know them well. I tried to trick body and mind, fled into senseless sleep and drank vanilla coke. And that's called "sad".

If you are mildly confused now: the rough structure "glad - bad - sad" and some of the sentence structures I've stolen from the Shangri Las' (the best girl group ever) wonderful melodrama "I can never go home anymore".

To tell it more prosaic: I've been simply plain stupid. I was on the edge of running into a constipation, should have realized it earlier, because it was no problem to get rid of all that s*.

Now I feel very fine again and do some aftercare by eating lots of vegetables to reconcile my intestinal tract.

And I listen to Werka Serdutschka, though I understand only a single word of he sings: "dawai!" But his fun music just fantastic.

And as a little thank you for all that have endured all this boring journal entry a link to some more exicting stuff:
[link]

Perhaps you begin with the Sand dream video (10MB). If you do not already know it from TV. It is worth watching!

Have a nice day, greets, Joerg
PS: I almost forgot: now I'm leaving that bio rhythm thingy and keep staying on top for a while.

How it started

The first minutes of the new year caught me with my tripod and camera midst of a semi hurricane on an empty field. I do doubt that any of the photos isn't wiggly, but we will see later. In any case the fireworks here weren't too impressive - only a "burning" horizon caught my attention. I never realized that there were so many little villages out there. No gap between them. But all was over before I even managed to get used to the all the f*ing wind. Anyway: no stupid sparkling wine for me this year.

Pledges
Only one/none:
This year I will not have any of this futile New Year's pledges!

Other than that it would be a nice idea to get rid of that terrible song in my ear. It's Raymond van het Groenewoud's "Je veux l'amour". When I continue to sporadically burst out in loudly and desperately groaning

"Je veux de l'amour
Nu, niet seffes, niet direkt, niet sebiet, niet weldra
Maar nu, maintenant, tout suite, heute, verdomme!
Je veux de l'amour"

I'll probably get in trouble real soon, but that song is so addictive.

Plans

Have some drawerfuls of them; so it's not about having or bragging about them but about getting them realized - or dump them. I will see.

Wishes

Oh, yeah! Have all a wonderful, successful, joyful etc 2007! May you not belong to those who starve, get infected, get tortured, get more that usually lied at by politicians or anybody, get cheated, get killed, get raped, get abused or abducted ...! May your find or keep your true love and have lots of fun!
::Looks::

Are you taller/shorter than the rest of your family?
I am the rest of my family, without me we all would have no rest.

How many times have you dyed your hair? What colours?
Atm I don't. In the past I've dyed black, blond, blue.

What tattoos do you have? If none, what would you like?
None. A sun ta2; motive still to be thought of.

What are your thoughts on piercings?
None.

How much do your own looks matter to you?
I don't have to look in the mirror all the time, thus the people around me matter more, lookswise.

Where do you usually shop for clothes?
Cloth shops I call them.

Are you a thrifty shopper, or does price not matter?
Price does matter, quality too.

How much makeup do you wear on an average day?
3 layers of lipstick, two pound of mascara, some tons of rouge ... Just look it up in my gallery.

How much time do you take getting ready to go out?
I can tie my shoelaces in about 7 seconds.

Do you like to wear hats? What kinds?
Soon to come as a deviation; if I'd said "a Stetson" ("the hat that America grew up under") it would be mildly misleading (but true).

::Multimedia::

What did you think was the worst movie of all time?
Everything Hollywood produced the last 30-40 years

If you could be any celebrity, who would you be and why?
Me, because then I'd be famous.

Ever buy a bootlegged VHS or DVD? If so, of what?
No.

Would you rather watch movies at home or in the theater?
A cinema would be good. In the theater there would probably be people on the stage.

What kind of food do you buy at the theater?
Hhm! Bananas, Sauerbraten and Zwiebelsuppe (if they don't have that, I'd refuse to buy from them and cook my own meal).

What artist do you love to sing along with?
Marlene Dietrich, David Bowie, Wendy James, Solveig Slettahjell
(though I'm not sure if singing is the main aspect of what I wanna do with the latter two)

What artist do you think has no right to be as popular as they are?
None, they all deserve it in their personal way.

What's a song that makes you cry? (come on, there has to be one)
Andre Hazes: de vlieger

What movie makes you laugh so hard your stomach hurts?
"Johnny Stecchio" (Zahnstocher Johnny) by Roberto Begnini

Are there any dance/action/fighting scenes from a movie you can perform?
Do slapstick stunts count (if artfully performed without my intention)?

Is there any movie you can quote word for word?
Gustav Gruendgens "Faust", but probably not all characters and not all of it (but enough to impress you),

::Love and Dating::

What do you think of kissing on the first date?
1st of January is as good a day as any for kissing! Perhaps one should brush all their teeth extraly thoroughgoingly to make sure the new year's party boozy breath is all gone.

Have you ever experienced unrequited love?
No, all the shiny supermodels stood begging at my door the very moment I first thought of them.

What is your ultimate fantasy date?
42nd of April, but don't whistle-blow that.

Have you ever dreamt about your crush/significant other?
I have even dreamed about crushing my so.

Was is a good dream, or a nightmare?
Depends on the outcome. I did all versions.

Do the words "I Love You" scare you?
No.

Have you ever wanted to ask someone out but didn't? Why?
Yes, because my wanting not to ask her out was stronger than my wanting to ask her out - simple maths or decision making theory ...

What things can a guy/girl do that turn you on?
Switch my on switch on.

Have you ever been on a blind date?
No, but after a date I once thought that I must have been blind.

Is there any specific appearance that will turn you away from a person?
Nicotine and other sooth out of her mouth, skin and clothes.

Do you occasionally chew on spoons?
I would not exactly call it spoons.

Do you even know what that means?:
No idea, Dr. Freud.

::The Past::

What was your favorite childhood toy?
Early childhood: the "Flying Virgin" (a naked Barbie doll with a rope around her neck so I could make strangled her fly funny circles).

Did you play with kids in your neighborhood when you were little?
Yes, though they refused to do t...

Hi everyone!

I strongly sense that your telepathic powers are limited and you have other things to care for anyway ... So let me tell you about my favourite winter and Christmas songs. While the whole bunch of the stuff that gets all the airplay in all the radio stations simply annoys me , there are some songs that make the listening worthwhile.

My number one winter song of all times is

"De Dodenrit" by "Drs. P".

Now most of you don't understand any Dutch, so let me tell you the very touching story:

A young family is riding on their family sleigh to Omsk. The Siberean winter is hard, the temperature is sexy -30 degrees Celsius, but the snow is good and hard and the woods are dark but beautiful.
Hi!

While we rapidly move forward to the most commercial and therefore theologically most important feest of Christianity, I have my own useless thoughts about these Christians.

Christians believe that ours sins are already payed for and thus we can die whenever we want or don't. But that is not all. If you ever have the pleasure to ride a bicycle in Germany, you'll soon learn about those car drivers with the Sanct Peter fish sticker on their murderous weapon. Most other idi^W car drivers manage to keep some decimeters distance while overtaking you. With the fundmentalist Christian fish car drivers this is reduced to centimeters. One little swing to the side and you could be in heaven. So it's true: Christian car drivers - the bicyclist's express route to heaven! Makes you almost feel like Bagdat.

But beside having been almost killed at some occasions it's just great atm. Whenever I have time I jump on my bike and let off all steam. Yesterday we had lots of fog and some photos you see in my gallery. Riding was pure fun, everything came near so sudden and often so surprising.

So, I enjoy and hope you all have a wonderful time, too.

Hiho!

1. Eating and drinking

OK, while DA can't "process" my submits I can update this journal thingy.

In the old days ... I faintly remember that for me November already meant cold temperatures, lots of rain an occasionally even snow (though living in the low lands of the so called Niederrhein). This year November has brought us many warm and miserable days and even some days ago we've had temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius here, but of course all beaches were closed. News tells us Europe had the warmest fall in the last 1300 years and that allergic persons better watch out because now - in December!- pollen of birches and cobnuts start their flights.

But I don't buy it. As usual I have started my winter diet, this time gaining 8 kg in two month. And that I do like a lot. Last year my efforts were more effective: I proved that gaining 25kg in two month is no rocket science ("My only winter diet traditions are rum, Christstollen and Sauerbraten!") and that getting rid of that extra weight in the spring is no problem at all ("Don't eat, keep moving!"). So I'm now looking forward to my winter diet in spring to keep my weight.

2. DA

My DA friends do not submit too much right now (28 deviations in two weeks) so I will carefully add some new friends.

Anyone with eyes should check my fav gallery; of course it is better than my own gallery. Especially I do like all the kitties in there.

3. Photography

Am now busy with three cameras. A 1950s Agfa Optima, an Olympus OM40 from the eighties and a new Pentax ist DL 2. Hope it will soon be possible to submit some new deviations.

4. Spare time

Reading, reading, reading. What a hell of a lot of good books are out there. And how much best selling garbage ...

Writing - some stories, some nonsensical stuff.

Beside that either loosing chess matches against my computer or - when the stormy and rainy weather takes a break - riding my bicycle.

5. Music

Desperately trying to avoid listening to Solveig Slettahjell and her Slow Motion Orchestra/Quintet *all* the time. So from time to time I forcefully load some other songs on my MP3 stick.

Hiho!

Normally I won't notice to many details of what's going on around me, but this one made me think.

The first one was a friend who one day had a real big "ESPRIT" on her behind, ie on her pants. Knowing her I assumed there must be a new rule that ordered her to have written on her beautiful behind what's missing in her personality. But then another friend had a "deluxe" at the same place, written all over it in large letters. I adjusted my theory, now claiming that it's a kind of size name. "Deluxe" surely sounds better than "large enough for two persons". I do not know why she threw a half empty coffee cup at me, when I shyly asked. Having survived that ... today I've seen a girl with an ass called "cargo". I better stop thinking!

And I do not denounce the labeling itself but just the messages. Why don't they print Bible verses there? (Not only) I could be a hell of a lot more religious!

Another one was a friend's wife. She had this shirt with "FARTH" all over her breast. Most of the time you could only read "FART", which I found as well amusing as inspiring. It was weeks later that she told us that after ironing that shirt she discovered that it read "EARTH".

Hell, what am I glad, that I wear only 8-12 totally nonsensical idiot messages on my clothes most of the time. Shoot the "designers"!

New pics of me might trigger the need for some explanations, at least for those who might be weak in judgement and/or history:

Unbelievably, I ain't a neonazi or even nazi, though I keep my head shaved. As I pointed out to a neighbor the nazis were the guys that among other fantasies they had thought you could judge persons by their look (which would be the straightforward expression of their genes) and/or their clothes. The neonazis do not inhabit any patent or copyright of bald heads (if they do, they should sue me to get rid of it).

Then there are the "skins". I am no skin, don't share any of their more usual clothing habits; I know that there are at least the two very different groups of right radical skinheads and left wing skinheads. I don't belong to neither group.

Me then? Well I am just a bald headed guy with glasses, perhaps just like Gandhi. If you forcibly asked me political questions, a lot, but not all of my answers could be regarded as more or less left wing. Then again I don't think in these categories. Left or right or golden middle never solved any problems but party disciplin and polizicians finances.

Hiho!

Sound almost like "Atlas Shrugged" but it is even sillier... After waking up I remembered a short passage from a dream:

I laughed at a girl because she didn't know "Pledget Paris". When thinking about it I noticed that I myself have not the slightest of clues who this guy might be. At that point I woke up, shocked by my ignorance.

Now I wonder if I just invented that name or if there is someone or something named Pledget Paris and I heard or read that name before without remembering now. Google was not too helpful and my dictionary says that there is something called "plaster of paris" which obviously is not a person.

So, if you're feeling sillyly enough think about it and gimme your guess.

And yes, of course this was a message from Him (or Her) and I'm just too stupid to understand - in the good old days when He (or She) just spoke ancient Hebrew He (She) was by far easier to ignore!
