time for more bitching and complaining.

i think it bothers me that on a site full of 'artists' no one has noticed that one of today's DDs is, in a sense, a photomanip, and not just an incredibly well shot photo. seriously, can no one see that the two girls on either side of the one facing the camera are the exact same, only flipped? and probably the same one as in the middle, although of course it's a different shot entirely. does that still count as a proper photograph, because all of the elements are of the same subject? does a photomanip technically have to be of different elements completely?

and... of course i'd report it, but its too much trouble, and there are much worse offenses on this site, and i doubt anyone will really agree with me either way.

there's also another photo i don't think deserved the DD, because yeah, the lens flare is more annoying than beneficial. it's not an interesting subject, there's nothing special going on in the background. its a photo with a lens flare.

good grief, for the longest time, people got crapped on for using it in photoshop too much. now, though, it's alright. because... y'know. its real i guess.

well, that's it from me. sorry, still no new art

i guess what i don't like about the new submission process (or more specifically the category selection; everything else worked pretty well this time) is the fact that there's no description anymore, of any of the categories. see, i'm dumb, and that made things easier, because for some reason there's a fair amount of my crap that doesn't seem to fit in one place or another. rather, my work just kinda fits in more than one, or it just ends up in the miscellaneous section.

maybe if i write a nice note to DA, they'll put in a new category just for me: SOME CRAP

its been a loooong time since i submitted anything, and i must say, they really made the submission process a pain in the ass. selecting the category was hard enough for me before, and now i have to guess at where my pieces belong and then see if i got it right? and entering plain text isn't as simple as copying and pasting anymore, now it somehow has to upload even that, which - when i did it tonight - took forever, and then i tried to upload a preview image, which also took forever, and didn't even work right... there's a separate button for it, but somehow it ended up being loaded in the same place as the text. and then again it was loading forever, so i went back to start over, and lo, after however long trying to get things loaded, there were two copies of the text and three preview images. so i got it down to one each, and then it wouldn't work, because of course! the preview image isn't supposed to be there with the text! despite the fact that that's where it took me when i clicked on the preview image button! so i deleted that. had to redo the category. now, somehow, there's actually a separate place for the preview image. and once again! for a SMALL file, there's just no end to the uploading.

so... fuck it. this is retarded. so much for trying to make things run smoother. progress sucks.
so i'm debating on whether or not to try and just make another background of some sort for the piece i want to submit, or just fuckin submit it with a fuckin black boring stupid background of nothing.
this is me, being a jerk. i never thought i'd say something like this, although i've thought about it enough. and please take into account that this is coming from someone who calls herself a human photocopier.

i hate how a photo of a CAT, a moodily lit CAT, will garner so much attention. i'm not saying my art is the best and people should notice it and be in awe or whatever. and i do make my own art not for the comments and recognition (although gosh, it's so nice to get it ), but for myself, and i like to post it for people to look at since this IS a gallery and i do consider some (some, but certainly not all) of my stuff to be 'art' and even 'pretty damn good'...

i don't know... maybe it's just me. maybe i just don't get abstract art enough, or y'know, i don't get the artistic merits of moodily lit cats.

i mean, real artists do get recognized. I do see actual paintings featured once in a while. so its not that.

i guess it really is who you know, though. or who knows you. and i do keep to myself, which makes this rant entirely stupid. but i'm one of those people who see 'real' art, and 'real' skill, as something more than a photo of a cat, for crying out loud. and i certainly wouldn't buy a PRINT of one.

jesus. call me when you've spent hours, days, months working on a piece. when you've put some actual work and thought into a piece. when it actually represents something.

i'm also a jerk because i don't get the point behind abstract art. i go to the gallery in town and there's this stupid (yes i said it, woo!) modern art crap. someone installs a flickery fluorescent light near the ceiling with the cables dangling all the way to the floor and calls it ART? i can't stand it. and this shit sells for millions sometimes...

i don't get it. i guess, to me, that real artwork should have some effort behind it, you know? bah. bah, i say. it just drives me nuts. i just have to say THANK GOODNESS for the people who actually create and show it off, because that's what really inspires me to do more. it relieves me, too; 'real' art isn't dead yet.

and i'm not too stupid to realize that one person's idea of art differs from another. i know that somewhere out there, someone will actually buy a print of a moodily lit cat and enjoy it. i just can't, for the life of me, figure out WHY.

and don't worry, i've got nothing against cats, either.

gonna end this with a quote from a song on my playlist that just came on, and it's pretty apt: "it's a monumental big-screen kiss; it's so deep its meaningless..."

i'm so hard done by...

seems like my computer just wants to give up, the poor hunk o' junk. i haven't submitted anything recently, because a few weeks back my monitor decided to give up and stop working right, and although i can still see stuff, it's like i'm looking at a 3D image without the glasses, and everything is slightly blurred/distorted/crappy to look at.

needless to say this means i can't even accurately judge any photos i might've taken since then, and thusly, no art from me. can't work on the projects i still have pending, and i'm not even gonna bother with photos.

there IS poetry, i suppose, but my writing is just as sporadic and dependant on my mood, which has been reasonably good lately.

i'm not going to complain too much, though, since i've had this extra time to burn all my files so i can get this computer overhauled finally. the damn thing is so loaded with junk and so much spyware and maybe a virus or two that it's probably gained 20 pounds since i bought it.

i'm debating on whether or not to call this piece finished.

i wanted to go all the way and give it an environment, but i started the stupid thing about three years ago and left it for at least one of those years because i couldn't get part of it right. since i started working on it again, i've realized that it would take me much too long (cuz i'm much too impatient!) to do it, and it would probably suck big juan.

and it'd be hard enough with a tablet. but i started the stupid thing with the mouse and i was determined to finish it like that, so... yeh. the thing is, i'm a southpaw. but i can't use the mouse with my left hand... and i can't really draw with my right. see the whole problem here?

maybe a simple background. but i dunno. and i want to post it so badly... and call it finished finally and get on to something else! argh!
it doesn't help that i keep starting projects before i'm even halfway finished the others...
