Hey all!

I've updated my price list for commissions - I'm going to try and take a little time tonight to draw samples for each category, and I'll update the post accordingly once that's done. In the meantime, you can see the prices here. Any questions or interest can be aimed at me via commenting here, sending me a note, or emailing me at sadlittlehil at gmail dot com.

I dropped off an application for a gig waiting tables at our corner restaurant today. Their WAITSTAFF WANTED sign has been up for at least three weeks, so I'm hopeful that I can land my first job with them. It's insanely overdue.

Between commissions and hopeful gainful employment, there are three things that I intend to save up money for. In no particular order, they are

A new computer monitor (this one is dying)
A Nikon D50 or D70 camera (I've always wanted to get into photography
A Vespa LX (in the happiest shade of yellow possible)

This will also necessitate getting a motorcycle driver's license. I think I can do it. 900 miles on $50 gas is certainly worth the effort.

Should I keep a running tally on how close to the needed $3300(ish) I am for the Vespa? Maybe make a nice SUPPORT PROJECT SCOOTERGATE banner or something?

yes i know i am a dork did you not see that i am trying to purchase a vespa gosh

Technically, we've been back since the 8th, but shh.

Our trip was fantastic, largely due to Cory's family being the most wonderful, generous people in the history of ever, and now we're home again. We have the place to ourselves for a few days yet, as my folks are out of town - it's been us and the beasties, and the quiet has been amaaaazing. I don't want it to go away.

Once we got home, I picked up Rock Band 2 - just the game for now - and am adoring it. We also grabbed The Force Unleashed, which has my brain back on a Star Wars kick again, something that will NOT be helped by the Clone Wars premiere on Cartoon Network at the end of the month (EEEEEEE). We've also both jumped over to play Warhammer, which... well. It's fun enough that I, a career carebear, am leveling my engineer almost entirely in PvP scenarios.

Yeah. I'm even more confused by this than you are, believe me. It's awesome. (I can't wait until I get the proper power trained to set up my EEEEERECTIN' A DISPENSERRRR macro. ) Anybody else playing Order on Skull Throne?

Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out my new price list's organization so that I can edit up my original post to be a little more profitabSTANDARDIZED, and I'm going to try to draw up a few things specifically as "samples" to go with it. I just... need to know what I'm doing samples of first. And it's 8am. And I haven't slept yet. So. Um. Don't wait up.

ps iron man 2-disc dvd is coming out soon omg omg omg omg omg omg squeeeeeee

I haven't had an honest to god leave-town vacation since 2002 - but now, thanks to Cory's family being freakin' fantastic, we're being flown out to San Jose for three (3) weeks. THANK YOU YOU GUYS SERIOUSLY.

So, from August 15th to September 8th, I will be entirely incommunicado. In the meantime, though, the Commission Sale is still on-going.

When I get back, I'm going to revise my price list. I think that in its current state, it may simply be too vague for a lot of folks, and the more frequently commissioned artists that I see around here organize their prices differently (headshots, busts and full-body instead of sketches, inks and color). Given how hard up we are for money, I'm going to see if adjusting this helps at all, and try to gnaw my way through artist's block.

In the meantime, I'm super excited over Cryptic's Star Trek Online announcement, and the upcoming footage from it and Champions this convention season. Gonna be sweeeeet.

Time to go brush my teeth!

THANK YOU CAPTAIN SIG)

Due to limited fundage, however, we were unable to pick up the drum set, and this gives me rage. So, naturally, it's commission sale time!

Rather than saving up for the drums, however, we're now shooting for the full-on sexiness that is the Rock Band 2 bundle... so we've got a ways to go.

From now until... whenever I feel like it, I'm slashing my prices as follows:

Postcards - $5. A simple drawing drawn on a 4"x6" postcard, optionally mailed directly to you once the artwork is done. Dad had it worst (acute bronchial infections are fun!), but so far, I've had it the longest, and I'm pretty sure that most of my body is currently composed of the gook I'm coughing, sneezing, and nose-blowing out of myself.

So that's fun.

On the flipside, I've been sketching a lot. This is good for me but bad for you guys, since I have trouble getting to the scanner (our only one is hooked up to my mom's machine and she uses hers even more than I use mine), a matter which is not helped by the fact that I am ass lazy and never remember to use the scanner when she isn't up. You know, like right now. Still, it's been nice to get some of my own characters drawn out and further flesh out the original setting Cory and I have been developing and playing with for all eight years of our relationship. I should really try and draw some Solarian spaceships... I can see them perfectly in my head, but I need so much practice drawing non-human subjects that it is quite frankly embarrassing.

Commissions remain open and are coming along apace. The last TToKNAD piece should theoretically be done Soon - Cory's hammering on the colors when he isn't taking his turn to sneeze his guts out, so it's slow going, but going. I'm going to see about finishing up a small banner commission today so that I can start drawing for myself and posting stuff here with a clear(er) conscience.

Also: Saw Iron Man for the second time yesterday. How much do I love RDjr's Tony Stark?

So, that's me.
Yes, I'm still here. I've just spent the first month of 2008 sick as a dog and unable to draw. WOOF.

Now that I'm reasonably well, though, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm trying to establish the habit of drawing a little every day. Unfortunately, I have a lot of free time - which means no pressure to draw ideas when I get them - and so, I almost never touch my pencil or tablet. There are no deadlines, no lack of time, no NEED to get anything done. I also have zero (0) ideas.

I want to say that I'm tired of drawing fanart but I haven't even been doing that, with one exception that I need to scan and tidy up later. I want to draw original stuff but I have no ideas.

I want to draw. I want to improve. I want to make things happen and get things done. Without a NEED to do it, though, it just isn't happening.

Cory is still waiting to hear back from Cryptic on that technical artist position - it's been on hold since shortly after he applied for it (IN NOVEMBER) and we've been keeping in touch, waiting patiently ever since. We both want him to get that job so, so badly, but our lives have been in this awful limbo state while we wait on them to unfreeze the position and make a call, good or bad. We both understand why it's been on hold and are happy to wait in theory, but...

I want to go after a GED, but I don't have the money for the classes. I want to apply for a job at the corner restaurant, but if Cory gets this job, we'd be moving to California so it seems stupid to apply when we might be gone in a matter of weeks. We both need to get some work done (hiss wisdom teeth, hiss eye exams), but have no money OR insurance to do it with. We're both depressed.
Whoo. Well, I figured I was vastly, vastly overdue to pick myself up some dA real estate - so, here I am! \m/

Besides, it gives me something to do other than bite my nails while my fiance takes a Cryptic Studios hiring test. Oh lawdy lawd I hope he nails it. Atlanta is nice and all, but CA > GA. It has been proven in labs, with science.

At any rate, I'm hoping that having my art up somewhere BIG! AND! PUBLIC! like this (as opposed to my website, which is a bit of a hole in the wall) will encourage me to keep pushing myself and improve. Don't worry, though, gentle reader - you'll see plenty of awful scribbly messy sketches up here as well. I can't be on ALL the time.

Now I need to go transfer a bunch of bookmarks to DevWatches and get hooked up with the City of Artists community. SO MUCH TO DO!
