I would dearly like to bring this society of writers back to where it had been - and beyond. In order to do that, I will need at least two people willing to help me "run the show" as it were. Um, Yeah. I've been clobbered by a personal wall of difficulty, and it took me offline since Christmas. It's school related - so I can't promise that I'll be running up to speed again anytime soon...
I noticed that in my lengthy absence, my mailbox didn't get clogged with submissions, which could be good or bad - depending on how you look at it.
Announcement

There will be No Homework for the month of December. Mostly for these reasons:
1.) I'm stacked up in books and assignments to my eyebrows and haven't had the time to go through my literary books and find something for you to do.
2.) I plain forgot to find something, until now.
3.) I'm hoping to be a little more organised for the new year, and get some of these changes underway.
But, that said, who likes doing homework over Christmas anyways????
Questions
1.) Is one Homework Assignment a month adequate? Too much? Too little? If too much/little, how often would you like a new assignment?

2.) Should submitting work be required of members? If so, how often? (Eg. 1 piece per month)

3.) Should critiqueing other's pieces be required of members? If so, how often?

4.) Should The Inklings expand to include prose-poetry as well as prose literature? Or should we remain prose oriented?

5.) Are you happy with The Inklings? What suggestions do you have? What would you like to see happen?

Hello everyone,
I hope this newsletter is finding you all well.

First off, I'd like to say I'm so sorry for disappearing like that over the summer. My life erupted into chaos, which is now mostly settled, and hopefully I'll be around as often as I'd like.

Second - My hard drive keeled over about a week and a half ago. I've recieved news that it will be ressurected, and hopefully soon. Until then I'm relying on the computers in the lab at my University. So my apologies for that too.

Ok....
Down to business. Since starting this wonderful group, I've learned a lot. These are the sort of things I wished I'd known before I started so that I could start it properly. All this means is that there's a lot of administration clean-up for me to do... and just a few new things for you guys.

I'll be posting homework on a relatively consistent basis as Inkling's deviations. That way you can always look back at them. I'll try to have a few homework assignments per month, you can pick whether or not you want to do one or any... depending on what suits you. These assignments are focussed on polishing your skills as a writer, and will be focussing on many different areas.
I'd dearly like as much participation as possible, both for your own growth and so that I can get excited by seeing your work progress.

Submissions will be accepted roughly once a month, and will still be thematic in nature. I will continue to post them in the newsletter like what ~chiroptera has started.

Welcome to our new members! I'll have a member list up soon, so that you can be in touch with eachother... and you can let me know if I've missed your membership application in my absence.
To those who'e like to join us, please send a note to ~theinklings with the word "Join" in the subject line.

Wow,
I think that's it for housekeeping right now.

Good to be back, and I'm looking forward to what's coming up for us!
July's Newsletter..

i'm sorry, but we do not have any newsletter for July..

August's Newsletter perhaps... ??
The month August is numeral is 8, which is made up of two circles.. If you have anything involving a circle literally, or talks about a life cycle, love cycle, or even a bicycle, feel free to send it in, and we'll showcase it for you.

The above applies to both Submission (to showoff your works) and Homework (to urge you for a new piece of writing). Remember, that Submission is a past deviation, while Homework is a deviation done in August..

Hope to hear from you guys soon..

Submission Rules
Maximum of 2 prose deviations can be submitted per person. Please also include in proper English three sentences about your prose. It can be what inspired you to write it, any afterthoughts, your structure/type etc. Note ~theinklings please.

Homework Rules
One deviation per person. Note ~ theinklings with a title, description, and link of that deviation.

Now, if you are participating in Submission, please also try and participate in Homework. Should someone gave you a critique on one of your Submission pieces, please return the favour by critique-ing too.

Yes.. That's right.. The Inklings refresh starts now.. I have not heard from ~kelticangel in days, and I hope all is well for her..

Let's begin planning without her first, so you members, be prepared for changes when ~kelticangel comes back..

First up, July's Newsletter..
There are lots of good critique-ing articles around deviantART and on the WorldWideWeb.. I propose for the articles in our first newsletter to solely be about critique-ing.. Better if you can write your own article, and contribute it to July's Newsletter.. I will be needing 2-3 volunteers for this.. If you are going to take the article from someone else, please ask permission and make sure you tell me the writer's name.. I guess about 5 articles would suffice..

Also, July would be themed Rage. So all PROSE submissions must have something to do with rage, whichever way you depict it. Your deviations must have occurred May 2004 and before. Please view Submission Rules below.

Your homework for July's Newsletter (and must be submitted as your own deviation in the month of June 2004) is a prose of not more than 1,000 words on the topic: Red. Please view Homework Rules below.

Now, if you are participating in Submission, please also try and participate in Homework. Should someone gave you a critique on one of your Submission pieces, please return the favour by critique-ing too.

Due Date for above: 30th June 2004

Submission Rules
Maximum of 2 prose deviations can be submitted per person. Please also include in proper English three sentences about your prose. It can be what inspired you to write it, any afterthoughts, your structure/type etc. Note ~theinklings please.

Homework Rules
One deviation per person. Note ~ theinklings with a title, description, and link of that deviation.

There's a reason to why you're watching us. I hope one of the reasons is because you want to participate in this young and growing community. I hope to see participation from you guys..

Hello Everyone!

First thing on my to-do list:
A HUGE apology to ~batesOK
I'm so sorry, I guess I didn't make things clear. By rights that comment on Dead in the Water should have ended up on your original piece on your own page - not on the copy posted here.

Lots of you know that I have offered to post up your work here, under our name, so that you reach a larger audience with your work.
Without trying, you've found the Big Snag.
There is nothing to stop others from commenting on the piece that's here, which isn't all that fair to you. And I'm sorry.
What I should have done was asked, in the description, that any comments by put on the original work - and I promise that I'll do that in the future. ~batesOK, I'm going to go change those descriptions for you now.

Until we have this figured out, we won't be posting any of your submissions. Sorry for the inconvenience!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So - to fix it.
There have been quite a few questions about how to submit your work here - now that you know that glitch, its up to you as members to let me know if that's what you want.
Please send me a note (NOT to ~ theinklings) and let me know.
Put "Submissions" in the title.
State whether or not you like the idea.
State whether or not you think we should keep it as an option.
State what changes you would like, if any.
Remember, send this note to ~kelticangel ... NOT to ~theinklings
Sorry to bog down your day with something as heavy as this - I hope you have a wonderful day!
Personal Commentary:
Just to let you know - things have been in a wee bit of a limbo seeings as I've just moved 200 km north of where I was living. Half of my possesions still live down there, actually, until I can retrive them. Maybe you didn't notice...
Ah well. Such is life.
I've been really excited lately, actually, because I've had two submissions for Assignment One!!! I'm really looking forward to reading them in earnest. And, on a little bit of an aside, I entirely forgot until yesterday (or the day before) that next friday (the 7th) is my birthday. You know you're getting old when... Anyways, have a wonderful weekend, all!
As ever, I love questions.
Luv,
Personal Commentary:
I love the fact that there seems to be utterly no interest in the first assignment. I think it's highly amusing.
Let me know what you'd like to see here, I'll see what I can do about it. I'm currently petitioning a society and a magazine for affiliation - I'll let you know how that turns out.
As to the rest of it... I would love to be bombarded with submissions. I really would. So, take a look at the *NEW* section just below and see if it interests you at all.
As ever, I love questions.
