These are my fish, Old Lace and Sniffles. They are both tiny and adorable, and both of them will grow to be huge and have fancy talents.
Old Lace will grow to around 1' and can survive out of water for 2 days, and Sniffles will grow to around 3' and let me pet his nose.

I consider petting a fish to be one of my lifelong goals, so this is very exciting for me. Sniffles is still very small and shy, but I have heard of people who hand feed their tyre track eels, and who have had them allow people to pet their noses. So I'm excited and full of hope

On a less cheerful note, if anyone knows tropical fish pretty well, I need help figuring out what's wrong with my adonis cat (pictured here).

But, I deleted all my messages, and I'm starting fresh. I'll go check out the galleries of the people I comment back and forth with, slowly but surely.

Everyone in my house is sneezing, including me. For a little person, I sneeze really loud (at least, I seem to startle people on a regular basis).

So I'm taking a gender studies class and we're studing DeBeauvoir. So, my homework for the weekend was to take one day, from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, and not objectify *anyone*, not men, not women, not myself. It sounds simple, but it's really not.

First of all, the most noticable thing is that I had to cover all my mirrors. When you look in the mirror. Any time you look in the mirror (except if you're trying to get something out of your eye) you are objectifying yourself. You look in the mirror to see how you appear to other people, and how they will value you as an object of beauty (or masqulinity, or spookyness, or fashion, or anit-fashion, or whatever). You, as a subject, a thinking being, have value that is intrinsic. There is nothing you have to do to make yourself valuable, you just are. You objectify yourself when you try to be something for some reason outside yourself. For example, if you study and experiment because you want people to think you're smart, you are objectifing youself. If you do those things because you like them, you're not objectifying yourself.
So, no doing, or not doing, anything because of how it makes you look to other people.
The biggest and most embarrasing part of this bit of the experiment was when I was walking home from work. When I forget my walkman (which I did today) I usually find myself looking around for people, and then singing to myself until someone passes by or something. I always stop when someone else is there, because I don't want to seem crazy, drunk, or off key. However, today, I can't care what other people think, so I pressured myself into continuing my singing no matter how many people passed by, although, I admit I sand signigicantly softer. I did finally stop when I went to office depot. I just couldn't stand the potential embarrasment, and my intense nervousness about that prospect.
That was the most major part of my 'not objectifying myself' trial. Although, it's really strange not to check the mirror like I'm accustomed to. It might sound kind of vain, but it's really strange to not see yourself in the mirror when you're so accustomed to it. I wasn't so much nervous about how I looked as I was just unnerved by the change in routine. In the morning when I wash my face I walk into the bathroom, and oh, there I am, hullo. Then I walk back to my room and change clothes and get my stuff together, and there I am too. (I have sliding closet doors that are mirrors, wow those were a bitch to cover) Then before I leave I glance in the mirror to make sure my hair is okay, and I leave. I never really thought about it like this before but, the shop I work in is full of mirrors. All of our shelves and cases have mirror backs and bottoms with glass shelves (ya know, to highlight the collectables or whatever). Fortunatly I tended to keep the mirrors blurred with windex, or at least keep my focus off of them. I did catch myself admiring my hand once though. I have a large-ish collection of braclets on my left hand and they make great noise and are really shiny, and I love the way they make my hands look. Wow, it's kind of embarassing to say that.

The second bit of the experiment is that you can't objectify anyone else. You might not think that you do that, but everyone does. Objectification counts as any time you see a person as a means to an end. That means when you go to the grocery store and you check out without really looking or talking to the check out person.
My feelings are of course, "oh crap.....people". I'm so uncomfortable talking to strangers. I never know what to say. However, I have to go to work (customers) and commute (bus drivers, taxi drivers, etc.), but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The taxi driver carried the conversation, and the check out girl at office depot was actually quite nice to talk to.

It was really strange to unveil my mirror. I was kind of apprihensive about it. I felt nervous about going back to seeing my reflection. I was actually a little dissapointed.
I wonder if after this I'll avoid my mirror a little more, it's so much nicer to not worry about it.

I guess both the founders of Deviant Art have been remove3d from the company, that's no good. It seems a bit underhanded. So let's keep up on the issue and support Jark (co-founder). It's not okay to take away someone's dream once it's become a reality. heartless cruelty may be acceptable in the corporate world, but this is a community. A community depends on it's members, we're all part of this site, and we should keep the management ethical, because it *will* effect us.

So, check this out, and form an opinion based on the info here.

I'm going to hold off uploading until things become resolved, and I'm going to support Yellow Day on August 7th.

Well, I spent like the last week trying to get my passport sorted out in time to get to France and meet up with my family, but it was not in the cards. I had a good fight with the beurocracy, and spent an obscene amount of money, but for all my efforts, it just wasn't happening. So, this week, I'm headed back to work, and onward to the anicipation of Comic Con!
It really sucks to not go to France, but I'm trying to move on. At least Con is in a few weeks and that should take my mind off things.

At least work doesn't seem to need me for at least a day or two, so I get a little mini-vacation.

Maybe later when I feel more like dwelling on things I'll write out the whole riddiculous ordeal, I'm sure it'll make a good story. (like they say, "we'll laugh about this later")

Anyhoo, at least I have some time to clean and draw and get stuff together for Con. (assuming I have stuff to get together....ha ha ha.....Someday) And I also managed to get caught up with all my deviant watching and stuff! YAY! Eventually I'm hoping to get some stuff posted and maybe get some things scanned up to be made into prints (mostly photos of Spike). Anyhoo, stuff!

OMG! I posted stuff! Hooray for accoplishments!

I've been having that blank page anxiety thing going. So I hadn't been doing much, because of that and the fact that most things I did do weren't turning out the way I'd have liked, and the dissapearance of my beloved hedgehog sketchbook (come home sketch book!! *crys*).

*sigh* I have this self defeating thing where I feel dissatisfied with my art, and want to do better. So I hesitate to draw because I feel I'll be dissapointed, and then since I'm not drawing I get stiff, and so when I do finally get something out, it sucks.....thus making me feel more dissatisfied...etc etc....
The moral of the story being "it's so much easier to just play video games"

but, I know that not drawing sucks, so I have to break the cycle. But, now that I'm back in school I have my optimum environment back: class. In class I can doodle without pressure 'cause I draw for the right reasons, to keep me company, to keep me from drifting off, to keep my anxiety under control....and then things turn out right and it looks okay and so I feel a little better.

Bah....you poor things who read my journals (I love you for listening btw), I just spill my guts on a regular basis huh? Very messy....all over the nice clean floor. Don't even get me started on how difficult it is to get the blood stains out of the carpet.

Anyhoo....

So I'm back in school, and in answer to my prayers I managed to successfully crash all my classes giving me an optimum schedual for balancing work and school.

I'm excited about french class, already I feel like spewing out long phrases and emotions in French....it always makes me sad that I can't just immediatly think and consequently speak in other languages. Pronounciation is more difficult than I thought though. Oh well, more to work with

I'm visiting my parents this week in Minnisooooota. It's very cold. It's neat, they had a cold snap here that started the day I arrive and is forcasted to end the day after I leave. Spooky huh? Hence the questions about -3 F and stuff. Although I've been offered many condolences, I'm really pretty happy in the cold. For the first few days I wore a sweatshirt and a scarf outside....but then it got windy and I had to wear a real jacket.

There's an art show/contest thing here. I entered a few pieces, I'm really hoping that some of my work will get into the show.....it has to first qualify for the show and then it'll be judged. Scary scary! I'm trying not to get my hopes up to winning anything ('cause I probably wont) but I really hope I get into the show, and maybe someone buys something.....

so, it's come to my attention that I watch *alot* of people, and when I say 'alot' I mean that when I don't check deviantart for 2 days I have 150 new deviations to look at. But it's all sooo pretty!
