Not going to go into the details os why I ;lost my job of five years (who ever does) but regardless it just wasn't a good place to work, I was unappreciated and got far less money and respect than I deserved considering the high skill and tenure of my ablity to serve and work there. Now I'm only applying at high volume places down town. I'm int he middle of applying for post-grad jobs in Japan and I don't intend to have to wait table for much longer so I'm going after those big buck. Tough work, but a huge pay off, and probably a 4 day work week. In the mean time I'm jsut going to use the extra time to salvage these grades and get these applications finished.

This is my last summer break from school, though I regret not being able to take this late posted water medium class but you know, I'm coping.

I just finished downloading ALL 61 episode of Hime-chan no Ribbon my favorite old school maho shoujo anime series from the 80's and I must say, I'm pleased as pie. Between watching anime in bed ^_^ I have devoted my time to documenting art and working on Bun Bun in one way or another. Today I'm at a coffee shop, warming up to do some writing while doing some scant updates. Two birds with one stone.

Speaking of which I have a tremendous backlog of art from school, gallery shows and just random projects that I need to post. No to mention getting another paid account since this is still my most "together" online gallery. In addition to that I need to start working on a website for my art collective The Harold Group. It's basically me and my Atlanta artsy friends that pool money together to throw parties to showcase our art and to feature guest artists' too. I should make a dev page for us too.

So I'm going to try to have something to post on the end of the week but I'm constantly preoccupied by money (who isn't these days). I'm trying to move into a cheaper place with my housemates by the end of June, and all is going well except for the fact that my current house is an energy inefficient, leaky, overpriced moneypit. Once I move I think I will be a lot less stressed. It's a house with lower rent, fully electric, has three bathrooms (our current 4 bedroom house has only one!), and it's close to school.

Well I need to head to work, but I'll be back soon

2008 resolution review!

1. As usual: Learn to drive, you never know, I may this year. (didn't again, maybe next year)
2. Exercise for at least 20 minutes a day (well I bike more but I need to do more weight lifting and intensive workouts)
3. Use time more efficiently (getting better and better)
4. Make the best damn comic I can (still trying to make it the best)
5. Update online more regularly (that goes right in step with better time managment)
6. Take more well deserved breaks (I've promised myself to go out of town for spring break for once)
7. Make strait A's during spring semester (I think I got and A, 2 B's and a C that semester but in the fall I got 3 A's and 2 B's)
8. Be a better friend to others and spend more time with friends. (Yet another time managment issue)
9. Cook at home more often (Drew and I are definatly cooking a lot more at home and it's delicious!)
10.Go to more free classical music concerts at school (didn't make a single one but I made a lot of critical masses)
11.Do some volunteer work and give back (too busy saving my own ass, I do need to find a project though)
12.Write more letters to congress and attend more community meetings (got one letter out)
13.Send more birthday cards (still missed too many, but my Grand Aunt's came out nice.)
14.Spend more time with my darling Drew having fun adventures together (everyday's and adventure)

2009 Resolutions

I'm looking forward to this year. I have a lot of stuff I want to do and I'm really reved up. I just wish I were richer and warmer. The gas is on but our heater won't work! I want to focus on more challanging art projects and getting around to posting all the art stuff I did this year, a lot of it is undocumented. Also since I'm getting broker due to rising living costs I will probably cancel going to Katsucon, I just don't think would be financially responsible. I am entertaining the idea of going to FWA, but only if I have an issue of Bun Bun done and that is based on how much of a head start I can get on school. I just don't know, there's a lot to be done and so little time. I have so many huge ongoing projects that are just still some ways from completion, but I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Finally got around to finishing this year's batch of Happy Walnut Ink. A tutorial will be published just as soon as my laptop (that has priliminary photos of the process on it) gets back from the repair shop. I can't wait to come up with a new packaging design for this vintage! I'll have a lot more avalible, I was able to make about 3 cups or so and I sell them in 1oz and .5oz bottles.

AWA

It's been how long since I last updated? I'm so sorry folks, I've just been really busy with work, school and art projects. I'm typing this during my boring CompSci class because all my time for the rest of the day is solidly occupied. So I must take some time to let everyone know my plans for AWA.

Yes I am coming to AWA. I have two tables in artist alley that will be staffed by my roommate Saint and our friend Hunter who works for Oni Press. My other roommate Kourtni has a table in the Marketplace and she has arranged solid rides for the show. Therefore I really have no need to crash at the hotel but I might hang out Saturday night.

Some of new products that will be featured at my table will be my infamous homemade Happy Walnut Ink. My 2008 vintage is still stewing but I still have 10 half ounce bottles of the 2007 batch to sell and i will probably do a demonstration of painting with it on Saturday. I will also have Walnut Ink paintings for sale as well

No I do not have an issue of Bun Bun Café finished. Go ahead, laugh and taunt. However, I am struggling to finish a full-color ashcan featuring the Gallery comic I did for The Harold Group Phantom Electric show and some comic related extras.

After that I'm back with more merchandise with Bulb and Pearl the Onion Twins. I'm working on a stationary kit with fresh new designs. Two colored letter sheet designs, colored envelops, labeled erasers and pencil sharpeners. I will have 6 kits that will come in a custom collage box that will include all of the above plus some pencils. Unfortunately I couldn't find a place that would make custom pencils for cheap (or would make less than 5,000) so the pencils are store brought but they kinda match.

I also have some treat backs that come with a comic and a prize that I'm sure will excite and delight. With any luck I will have time to update my portfolio a little too. Overall my spread is minimal this year, but well thought out I think. I guess I'll see tomorrow. Wow, it IS tomorrow.

Today I turned 25 and it was a most enjoyable birthday. I am elated to be halfway to my goal of being fifty. The past 24 hours have been full of fun. First last night me, Drew, his sister and our roommate Saint all went to the formal opening of WonderRoot a local artist resource center. I was extremely impressed with the facilities that they provided: a dark room, pottery studio, digital studio with a poster printer and a fully loaded music recording studio plus much more. They are offering studio space at draw dropping prices. They are in the hood of east Atlanta and in exchange of ndoubtedly cheap rent they teach the neighborhood kids art too. Our art group The Harold Group is considering renting space in their facility. At the opening we all drank wine and danced to their eclectic DJ and debated on whether to attempt to catch another art opening that was going on that night.

Instead we oped to go to Camelli's, an Italian counter service restaurant with a bar that my friend Shannon works at. It was their DJ night so she wanted me to come out and dance, which I did happily since they were playing a lot of Brazilian music that I was already familiar with. Also, since it was my birthday Shannan totally tried to poison me by getting me a couple of free shots. I had to break out at 2am because I had to be at work at 10am. I in fact got up at 7am (because I'm used to having to be at work at 9am) and I kept waking up every 20 minutes until I finally got moving at around 8:15. I walked to work and arrived on time to have some yummy eggs Benedict. I sloshed through my shift and afterwards my co-workers got me a cake (everyone gets ice cream cake on their birthday at my job) and sang to me. I inhaled my cake and broke out because one of Drew's best friends invited us to the Shakespeare Tavern to see Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. It was the most amusing play that mocks Hamlet and retells the story from the perspective of two obscure minor characters from the original play. It was very funny and had some well written whitty verse in its dialog. We also ate some yummy sheppard's pie and drank lots of wine.

Now I'm at home relaxing and I've found the time to update my journal, so I guess its a good year.

Oh, and since its in an hour or so HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Life's been crazy, don't want to go into detail. If you want to hear some funny stories, catch up with me in a bar at the next con and I'll explain it to you. Plus finals are coming up, combine that with my 40 hour work week and I'm a tired Tani. I usually find a good documentary to watch and go to bed. Which brings me to the main purpose of this post, my top 20 list!

If some of you haven't guessed by now, I love documentaries, and reading non-fiction too. Nerdy stuff like math theory and international mass transit studies and shit like that entertain me. For the last year or so these films I have selected are by far the best that I've seen (but there are still more awesome films online). Best of all, so many documentaries are avalible online FOR FREE. Blockbuster movies and 90's TV shows may be under lock and key, but ain't nobody tryin's to protect knowledge! I rated these based on the flow in which the film presented the thesis and that it is visually pleasing, that it somewhat unbiased (though that is kinda impossible since the objective of a documentary is to prove a thesis or confirm an observation), and shows lots of good verifiable evidence. The last determining factor is honestly subjects that are favorites of mine, like astronomy, African American history, and number theory. I highly recommend these films so find a nice bowl of snacks and a loved one and watch some stuff that is entertaining and informative though sometimes a little propagandistic (but I'll forewarn ya'll on those ^_~). If you've seen some of these too let

This is such a cool doc. Ever wondered how galaxies are formed? It's not that complicated.

3. The History Channel's lindex=0"The Kings: from Babylon to Baghdad (full version) or in 9 parts at better quality on You Tube (130m)
In order to know a people you have to know their history. This doc examines the history of the fertile crescent, the birthplace of civilization and of course war.

4. Albert Nerenberg' lindex=0"The Definition of Stupidity(71m)
This is by far the most most poignant film ever about stupidity.

5. Achbar, Abbott and Bakan's lindex=1"The Corporation(185m)
If a corporation was a person, what kind would it be? A decently balanced examination of the practice of corporate personhood.

6. Chris Paine's lindex=2&hl=en"Who Killed the Electric Car?(92m)
Now if we can just hook them all up to a GPS and internet network and give them a little AI I'll never have to learn how to drive! Ha ha ha!

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated. Things have been really crazy, where do I start?

First of all MY MOM MOVED to Atlanta. I was so naive to think that she was too old to pull one of her gypsy stunts. She was suppose to come for a visit this month and decided to stay. She said my brother needed her and that her doctor had said she needed to move to a warmer climate anyway (yet she ignored his suggestion of moving to Arizona). WHich I can't argue with, my brother does have a LOT going on. Along with my mom my sister has to follow, she's only twelve. She's going to be starting at the middle school down the street from my job. Transferring cross country with only 6 weeks of school left, BOY! that takes me back! Thanks for not sparing my little sister you gypsy insanity Mom *rolls eyes* Oh well, what's done is done and I can only find consolation in the fact that I'll be able to keep an eye on my sister more. Other than that, since the moment my Mom arrived life has been a disaster. Get this, the day she came was the day that that TORNADO hit Atlanta! How's that for a bad omen? The buildings downtown still look like checkerboards with all those windows boarded up. Then mom is constantly calling and bugging me and I had to help my sister get into school and she and my brother are constantly arguing, UGH!! then I have to go to school and work after all the drama! I guess this is normal. This is the first time in my adult life that I will live in the same city as my Mom. *sigh* I can't wait to move to Japan.

I finally saw Avenue Q the other day for my History of Dramatic music class. Even though I could only afford nose-bleed seats and I nearly went blinder trying to see the stage, it was an awesome show. So many hilarious songs. The only thing that through me off is that the puppeteers;,though they don't interact with the puppets, are not hidden in any way on stage. It takes a few minutes to allow them to disappear into the background and focus on the emotional woe of the puppets. My favorite part was Princeton's marriage nightmare, awesome stage effects. Now I just have to write a six page paper about its awesomeness.

In other news, I encountered possibly the biggest scam on the web the other day when i was renewing my FAFSA. I was just rushing to get it done and typed FAFSA into google and clicked the first option that I thought was the fafsa and when it came up it said renewals were $50. "Since when?" I thought, "Surely when I log in I will be able to get an exception." I tried to log in and my pin wouldn't work so I called them. It turns out that I was on the wrong site. fafsa.com instead of fafsa.gov. This company was charging people, $80 for first timers and $50 for renewals, to fill out their FAFSA! If you don't know what this is a Fafsa is a FREE Application for Federal Student Aid, big emphasis on FREE. The guy on the phone explained that their service was worth while because, "I want to fill out the form right" and "the government doesn't double check your form for mistakes". Well you know who will? Your counselor at school, and they won't charge you a dime, let alone the exorbitant fee of $80!! Hell you can get your taxes done for $50! and a tax form is harder, that's where the math is. On the fafsa you just fill in what was on your (and possible your parents' taxes. And after you do it one time the form is pre-filled online so every year all I have to do is change how much money I earned. Their site I mean I'm all for free enterprise but I scoff at those that would rather than come up with a productive industry or innovation to market, the leach on a free government program! I feel ashamed that I almost got tricked out of $50. It's only now that I notice that in the corner of the private site that it says it is not affiliated with the US Government. When I first went to the site my eyes immediately went to the familiar buttons of "File a FAFSA" and "Renew a FAFSA". If any of you need help with a FAFSA ask me, I've been filling them out for years. I can't imagine anyone needing this service when every public school and university in the country willingly provides this information for free.

Hello all,

Momocon was a blast as usual. Having my friends Saint and Kourtni there was super awesome. We all work on gallery projects together anyway so this was a natural transition. Especially since Saint has been coming to Momocon with me for the past two years. Saint showed off a lot of his pieces from the last gallery show and ended up making some really awesome paintings quite on accident. He grabbed the wrong roll of paper, it was a roll of tracing paper. But he painted on it anyway and the crowd went wild, he got like four commissions back to back. People started asking if it was rice paper we were using. So I was like "Uhh yeah, it is rice paper, word, you buy?" Kourtni had a plethora of gear and nick knacks. The most popular were here lacy lolita eye patches that sold out in like four hours. Along with collars and bracelets and berets.

I sold off the rest of my Mario and Luigi Raccoon hats; the last two Mario hats went the first day. Then a couple of prints and a badge. Mostly just trying to make space in my office because I need to clear it out since we are getting a new roomie soon.
I have been clearing out more and more stuff so that m only focus is the comic. Right now I'm trying to think of more products to complement the comic. The only other project I may fiddle with is possibly making a 2009 calendar for the Onion Twins. Well not too much more time until work so I have to go, jya!

P.S. Anime Central is being removed from consideration due to getting no response for even being on the wait list and a pending move. Comic-con too for the same reason and because if I get to go ANYWHERE in June I'm going to lean towards New York because I've never been there.

I will be attending Momocon this weekend. This show is basically a no-brainer, for one its practically in my backyard, I don't need a hotel and since I am sharing booth space in the dealer's room this show will only be a $25 expenditure. Since this is such an inexpensive show I don't really have to direct a lot of attention to coming up with new products to sell in order to offset travel expenses. Which is great because between work and school I don't really have that much time for it, and I'm tired of it. My innovations never take of right away, usually it takes a year or a well known company will do something similar (Like when Bandai came out with anime coffee mugs a year after I was doing custom ones by hand) Mostly I am trying to clear out my office since we are going to be moving soon. However, I will make some new piñatas though. I may make one more Pikachu, but mostly I want to try out some new designs that are simpler and more abstract. Also, I will not be selling them with candy this year because 1) no one ever wants to use my piñatas for their intended use, 2) Momocon doesn't allow the sale of food products in its dealer's room anyway, 3) and I don't want to spend the extra money. So people will either buy them because they are cute or fill them with candy for a party if they wish.

I think my table displays are going to totally suck until I have Bun Bun Café finished and ready to go. I am practically overhauling my entire studio in order to put all of my effort into producing this story the best way I can. I was actually working on backgrounds for BBC the other day. I was in the right groove and able to spend the time necessary to get the right details in the image and make it look as good as it deserves to look. It made me realize that I will probably not have an issue ready until June because I do want this to be a good comic and I'm putting a lot into it to make it the best that it can possibly be. Lots of writing and research and drafting and drawing and planning. I want this to be a great debut. I want to make it worthy of acclaim and awards. A piece of solid collective work that I can be proud of even if I never do another comic series. But I know I will, my boyfriend is already making notes for the next series. I feel guilty because I feel like I'm making people wait, or that people must be anticipating my debut, but their not. No one will remember how long it took me to finish as long as its finished well. No one will care if I come out with a comic really fast and it isn't worth the paper its printed on. It has to literally leap of the pages and into peoples hearts. It will not see the light of day until I feel I achieve this. I will never have droves of fans until I give the public something to be a fan of.

I will do my best to post examples of my progress in a coherent manner. Its just that there is so much content and it all needs to be edited and arranged and story-boarded and proofread that I'm not sure that anyone will be able to understand the context of anything until it is presented as a whole. Also not much will be shown until school lets out in the beginning of May when finals are over.

My apologies for not posting for a while. I have been very busy since I returned home from our nation's fair capitol. I have been running around out and about without a moment's rest. As usual, work was very demanding. My company's new restaurant just opened so we lost about three senior servers, plus another server was out of town at an event. Let's just say that I made up for lost time. Any time that I could have dedicated to drawing has been preoccupied with studying for mid-term exams. I suppose it doesn't matter my house's router is on the fritz and we are debating on weather we should put in money for a new one since the house is totally disbanding at the end of the lease this time. After all I am the only person in the house currently with a desktop. I have many new works to post and I will make an effort to publish them before spring break.


Being at Katsucon last week, was like being at a glorified high school reunion, Class of 01' respectively. I was constantly floored by people I hadn't seen in what seemed like ages. We are all getting older, hopefully wiser, and some are soaring to stardom, others wavering and regrouping like myself, but everyone is working and that always leads to something. As usual conventions make me very reflective about the status of my career as an artist. I always look at my collection of work proudly, but disappointed that I could not do more. Even though I know I am a full time student that maintains a good GPA, even though I work about 35 hours a week and have to do laundry for two, I still feel shitty about the lack of completion in my work. I want to finish more projects, to have completed more projects to show my peers and the public. I am so impatient with something that requires more time that I physically cannot give without the assistance of illicit drugs that I have no interest in patronizing.

But I digress, I must look with hope to the future and get as much work done as possible during the spring holiday. For now I must focus on midterm. Look for art updates next week. Ta ta.

I know I said I would have the first issue of Bun Bun Cafe ready for Katuscon but I guess that was wishful thinking. Also I have been really sick, with a perpetual cough and super bad stomach flu yuckiness. I'll just have to present everything I have so far so people can get an idea of the comic, and mybe some free flyers. I really don't know what I will have to sell. I don't really feel like bringing that much stuff only to bring it home. And with school and work to worry about (even though I dropped my fifth class) I won't have much time to produce any new products, and I don't really want to. So if you want something your just going to have to settle for some stinky ol' drawings.

But, you know, it's cool. The DC Metro area is my hometown and I haven't been back in years so I'm going to have a ball even if I didn't meet all of my artistic goals. I can't wait. I totally missed the Anime Boston sign up date for Artists' Alley. I didn't factor in that since the convention would be a month earlier than before that Alley reg would be bumped up too. Well even if I had known I wouldn't have the money to register, I'm always broke at the beginning of the year. Oh well, it is and expensive con to attend, but always a fun one.

On to other news as far as I can tell I'm still on board for Katsucon, I was confirmed for one of their tables last year. I jsut need to call up some friends for crash space. I probably will not have issues of Bun Bun Cafe #1 just yet, but probably a prof as a demo. I'm wondering if I should opt for MTAC since I didn't get a booth for Anime Boston. I was considering it somewhat anyway since Anime Boston was the weekend after Momocon and it would have been a strain to do back to back cons during the semester. Anyone hear good things about this show?

New Year's is one of my favorite holidays. It has so much hope associated with it, we all can look forward to what we want to do in the new year and give closure to the year that is past. How ever sometimes it can be a little sad because you often think about what you didn't do in the past year, that you wish you had. Well, this is why we have resolutions. Even if they are not fulfilled, at least it gives us standards. With that in mind lets see how I did on my past year's resolutions:

2006 Resolution results
1. Learn how to drive - I think we all know the answer to this
2. Finish a more projects than I start - umm, well, I'm working on one at least
3. Stay organized - Done in spades
4. Always shop around and get the best deals - I've managed to stretch a few pennies.
5. Earn higher than a 3.0 for the next two semesters - I got a 3.7 this semester and I'm aiming for a 4.0 on the next!
6. Take better care of myself I paid for dental surgery, it's something
7. Be more responsible with my money - Well I'm ending the year pretty broke, so I'm going to have to still work on this one
8. Look out for my interests more - I guess
9. Pay off all debts Hardly, but got a few
10. Spend more time with friends - harder than you think

Now for some fresh crunchy 2008 Resolutions
I resolve to:
1. As usual: Learn to drive, you never know, I may this year.
2. Exercise for at least 20 minutes a day
3. Use time more efficiently
4. Make the best damn comic I can
5. Update online more regularly
6. Take more well deserved breaks
7. Make strait A's during spring semester
8. Be a better friend to others and spend more time with friends.
9. Cook at home more often
10.Go to more free classical music concerts at school
11.Do some volunteer work and give back
12.Write more letters to congress and attend more community meetings
13.Send more birthday cards
14.Spend more time with my darling Drew having fun adventures together

I finally finished my Holiday postcards today. I'll post the complete image on Christmas so that people can receive their cards. Each card is a piece of a full image, so I'm sure you will all enjoy. I also have been going to holiday parties and such. For the second year in a row I ended up volunteering for Breakfast With Santa, a charity event my restaurant does every year to raise money for the fire department. Always fun to see a bunch of cute kids asking Santa for presents. I asked Santa for a laptop and self-cleaning litterbox.

Earlier than that me, my boyfriend and a few of our friends and roommates organized a holiday party at our house that was also a gallery show. I was able to do a display myself where I made a large wall collage of all of the drafts and groundwork for Bun Bun Café so far. It was well received and it was nice to see all my work up until now accumulated. The show was such a success that we are planning another one since lots of local artists have begun to send us submissions. Unfortunately the working date that the committee wants is the same as Katsucon. Not sure if I'll do an exhibit en abstentia, but I will post pictures from this last show soon.

Other than that just starting to layout Bun Bun Café finally after many rewrites. If also started writing the next issue. I would like up to issue 3 or 4 written by the time the first finished issue is in my hands.

I hope that everyone has had a good thanksgiving. Mine was quite enjoyable. My boyfriend and I ended up planning an impromptu dinner and invited friends that had no where else to go. There was much eating, drinking and merry making.

Sorry I haven't posted anything for Bun Bun Café lately. I really havn't been working on anything "postable" Mainly I have been working on writing the scripts and researching for the art. Not to mention school eats up a lot of time. When school lets out I will have much more time to work on the actual comic. I am aiming to have the first issue ready for printing by January 10th or so. That should give it ample time to be printed in time for Katsucon.

BTW Katsucon is the first confirmed convention of the year. This makes me happy because this was my favorite con growing up, my first convention I attended and I have gone to more Katsucons (even with missing two years) than any other con. Plus this is a convention that many of my old high school friends attend so I will be doing a lot of catching up an reuniting. I Can't Wait!

I haven't been working on the comic much outside of planning and reorganizing my room so that it's easier to shift through my mountains of reference material. I am considering going to Zine~a~Palooza in Lil' Five points next week but I might not set up, I don't really have a decent press release set up for Bun Bun Cafe yet. Oh and I just saw my counselor today. It seams that I have two or three more years to go but at least nearly all my core classes are finished so the remaning semesters primaraly consist of art classes for my major, art history classes and of course Japanese (my minor)

Today I posted the Onion Twins greating card series I produced this year. I will try my best to present all the projects I did this year like the Mario/Luigi Raccoon hats and the Anime Pinatas.

In the world of Bun Bun Cafe I have just finished reploting and tweaking the story out to 15 issues from 12. It gives me a lot more "wiggle room" for visual storytelling. In the meantime I'm still working on backgrounds and character design. My progress can be found on ComicSpace

Hello all,

Tani here, broadcasting from eX-O studio. I have recently returned from what may be my last Furry Fandom convention in a long time. Nothing personal against furry conventions, but I never really make much money at Furry conventions. Pity because they are usually very fun to hang out at. Also, I would like to go to more comic convention. Next that February I am planning my triumphant return to Katsucon, so Furry Weekend Atlanta is out of the question.
This week I have a lot of days off from work so I am tying up loose ends and outside projects that are distracting me from exclusively working on Bun Bun Café in between my full-time school schedule and part-time work schedule (or sometimes part-time, I often get scheduled for more days than I want to work). The only other thing that is taking up my time is redoing my convention portfolio, specifically to include my packaging design portfolio. Also, because of this new direction and focus for my career I will be reducing the number of public online galleries that I update regularly. The three sites that will be the core of my studio updates will be Deviant Art (Newest art and networking), MySpace (networking and promotions), and ComicSpace (comic art and networking). If you are reading this on a site other than the three previously I listed then that means that I will no longer be updating this particular page on a regular basis. That isn’t to say that I will never post again at these sites, it’s just that it is unlikely unless it is a piece that can’t be posted on the three "core" sites (such as mature themed work).

As usual I will be in the Artists’ Alley at Anime Weekend Atlanta near the end of the month. Not really planning new stuff for this show. I have plenty of nice items that I developed throughout the year that I can sell at "end of season" prices. Such as my Mario and Luigi Raccoon™ hats and Kirby Ability™ Hats, Furry Fruit Friends™ candy boxes, Onion Twins Greeting Card sets, and matted prints. I even have a few more Herbin’ Girls™ plant kits and bookmarks from last year! So I don’t need to make any more crap, I’m just going to try to work on a nice presentation folder on my progress of Bun Bun Café and my packaging art.

In case I forgot to mention it (over and over again heh heh!) Bun Bun Café is my debut comic series that I am currently working on. It stars my two bunny girl characters Sasha and Gwen Gray. If you’ve known me for a while I’m sure you’ve seen these two before. The story is a coming-of-age tale focusing on these siblings as they take care of their family’s bodega while their parents are on a three month European vacation. So far I can say that the plot is fully developed and complete and it has been planned for 15 issues. The debut date I am looking for the end of October (that’s when my printing coupon expires ) and to promote it a lot around Christmas online. The first convention that it will be sold at should be Katsucon in 2008. Right now I am planning out the whole look and feel of Bun Bun Café’s world. The girls live on top of their bodega in a brownstone building in an urban city called Midway City which is heavily based on the neighborhoods of south side Chicago. Since I am illustrating this with no penciler, inker, toner, etc; I am drawing massive detailed background that can be reused and thus cut out a lot of constant drawing. Plus it helps convey overall consistency with the setting of the story. I am also working on this project with the assistance of my boyfriend Drew Bryant. He is currently working on the scripts and dialogue. Once he is finished writing the first few issues I will have the backgrounds ready for layouts, this should be in a couple of weeks. I’ll post some backgrounds as I finish them. I hope you all will encourage me throughout this project; I can be easily distracted so help me keep focused! Take care all!

Another summer vacation gone in a flash. Every summer I try to spend the time accomplishing some great goal, any goal that I can't seem to finish during school. But the only thing I seem to do is worry and goof off. I guess relaxing is a notable goal. School starts on Monday and mostly I'm psyched even though I have some major art deadlines approaching as well as attending Mephit Furmeet at the end of the month. All theses obligations make it almost impossible for me to fully focus on Bun Bun Café. I try not to get to depressed about not devoting more time to this project by just doing a little at a time, a little task done is still one less task to be done. Also with the return of school returns the rule of order and discipline in my life. Though I have more to do I tend to get more done. I hope to be even more disciplined this year and not slack as much.

I want to form an artist resource alliance that would have the main objective of helping to bridge the gap of going from an amateur to professional artist by pooling resources and to create new and strengthen existing alliances between artists. The organization’s major function will be to assist its members with leads to freelance contracts, purchasing and sharing studio supplies and equipment, merchandise production, publishing and organizing group trips to events where work can be displayed and sold. However for a group to be effective I need members who have goals and what those goals are and what members need to achieve their unique goals. Overall I would like the members of this alliance to be working on large projects and contracts that build professional portfolios for themselves and for the whole group. So to get the ball rolling I want to conduct a survey and based on the answers of the people who are interested I can begin to get an idea where the true objectives should be. But most importantly I am tired of struggling and seeing my friends struggle to accomplish something great with their talents, so I want to see everyone helping each other succeed. Please give input and comments. These options are primarily what I’m currently interested in but I’m sure there are other areas I haven’t thought of that would be good sources of opportunity. I don't get nearly enough days off and they are usually used to catch up on laundry. I am going to attempt to not laze around and finish up a T-Shirt and Logo commission I have to do and maybe start stretching out the scripts of Bun Buns or do some charecter design. There is just always so much to do, and it requires energy and time. Time and energy used at work. I like my job, I just wish I could switch to part-time now, but I have to wait until school starts so that I can get a fat refund check to mooch off of. Then I'll have more time for more important projects.

I’m sorry I have been invisible for the past few days. My roommate Patrick moved out at the beginning of the month to go off and get married. All well and good for him except nearly all of out bills were in his name. While everything was getting switched over the cable was out for about a week and a half. When we finally got the cable back on I couldn’t hook up my computer to the internet because we had lost the AC adaptor for our router. Even when I did get to the point where I did have my computer reconnected I was so busy with work (due to a lot of servers quitting recently) I have been too tired for any significant online activities. I wish I wasn’t so tired that I procrastinate and delay doing necessary updates and online networking; I’d give anything to be able to work on my comic full time. However, I have been making lots of progress in the meantime fine tuning the scripts for Bun Bun Café. I have to start working on the backgrounds this week if I want to start drafting pages for issue one. I am getting really happy with how the story is developing. I just need to find more time to devote to it. This is probably the hardest thing for an artist. You have so many great ideas and ambitions but actually producing the great vision can be so challenging.
Other than art I have been just hanging out, mostly with my boyfriend Drew. He visited his grandmother last week and I was so lonely without him. I have friends here but we all have such hectic schedules that I can hardly keep up with them! So I just stayed at home and sketched. Last night I saw Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” and boy, I never realized how much stuff has been inspired by this movie, it was perfection and for the time period gritty. I think this is going to replace “The Birds” as my favorite Hitchcock film.
I don’t think I’m going to go to Otakon; I missed out when tables went on sale. Tables seem to always open up right after I pay a lot of bills. I need to start having more disposable income on hand for shows. I guess I am getting a little burned out; everyone is getting burned out on conventions. The economy is lagging, gas is going up, jobs are getting scarce and it’s just becoming too risky to do a convention when it’s getting harder and harder to cover expenses. I still signed up for Anime Weekend Atlanta and after that I’m not going to any shows until 2008. I’m definitely looking to attending a more diverse tour of conventions next year to increase my exposure. I also hope to organize some friends and colleagues to travel with me. The stakes are getting too high to not to ask for help and pool resources. If anyone has some ideas that they want to throw out let me know because I want to create a new official artist resource organization, one stronger than caml-cau that will get results in furthering my career and the careers of my friends. I have some ideas, but the most important thing about making something like that work is to have strong allies, I realize this now. I feel like I have been doing a lot of work lately with my art and it hasn’t really been getting me anywhere, and I know a lot of my friends feel the same way. I’m ready to change my game entirely and I want to know if anyone out there who knows me well is ready to get down like that. Anyways let me get off my soapbox, I have to meet with someone in a few minutes. Laters.

Things have been going alright here at eX-O. I’m a couple of weeks into break and I am able to not only focus on art projects, but to also finish up many unfinished and unpublished projects. You see, I have been working my but off trying to come up with creative exclusive crafts to sell at shows, and I’ve been jumping from one idea to the next without really documenting and showing off those projects that could add a lot of prestige to my portfolio. So in addition to tirelessly working on Bun Bun Café, I will also streamline my portfolio with photographed documentation of non-2D side of my studio.

Also I have cancelled a lot of shows. Rent is going up, gas is going up, and no one seems to have the money to spend on art and comics as much so I have to make sure I can take care of myself and still be able to create and share my work. Insofar, I have cancelled Rocket City Fur meet and Project A-kon and I am working to see if I can still swing Otakon. I will also be attending Anime Weekend Atlanta, other than that I am not committing myself to any more conventions for 2007. In 2008 I am going to attempt more comic conventions and a hand full of anime and furry conventions. It depends on how the economy is and if I learn to drive this year. I’m defiantly reevaluating things; I’m ready to start really challenging myself. So just be patient, I promise I’m working on something great ^_~.

Also I’m turning 24 on the first of June! I have made my second cycle as a Boar hopefully this will be a productive year.

As usual, Anime Boston was an enjoyable trip. I was satisfied with everything except for the lack of revenue. At this show, I premiered a lot of new merchandise and many of my new art projects got a lot of attention. Overall, I think that I got some memorable exposure despite the lace of sales to back it up that success. First off, I premiered a new series of greeting cards, staring my fantasy sibling duo the Onion Twins™ I only sold a few of these but a lot of people showed interest in seeing the characters in other projects.
This year my newest concept craft were the Anime Piñatas. I first experimented with the concept at Momocon where I only had two designs, a Kappa and Pikachu. At Momocon, I was left with only one Kappa. At Anime Boston, I had five designs: the Kappa and Pikachu model along with Sonic the Hedgehog, Alphonse Elric from Full Metal Alchemist and a Giant Chocobo model that was the grand prize in my table’s Saturday raffle.
I also included one of my new Fan Hats with Stenciled boxes as a prize for the raffle. Two years ago was when I had first created a Kirby Cutter baseball hat based on the variety of hats that the Nintendo/HAL character, Kirby, wears in his numerous video games. I had hand painted the eyes for the first series and used real feathers for the wings that appear on the sides. I believe the hats premiered at Anime Weekend Atlanta. All of the new hat designs, Kirby Ninja, Mario Raccoon and Luigi Raccoon, along with the Kirby Cutter hat are done with foam parts since foam is easy to use and looks a lot cleaner than felt. I sold the hats with boxes that I stenciled with spray paint. The stencils were of icons that gamers familiar with Mario and Kirby would easily recognize such as the 1UP mushroom or the magic parasol. Making the hatboxes was a lot more fun than making the hats themselves. Soon I will post pictures of the hats and all of my latest products with Pay Pal buttons for anyone who is interested in purchasing them.
I started selling tickets on Friday for my raffle that was going to take place on Saturday. More and more often, people leave Sunday morning and cannot make a Sunday drawing. Friday was steady, I got a chance to do a once over of the Artists’ Alley and see what the other artists had to offer. The majority of the room had really talented artists that were on the right track. I wish I had earned more money so I could go buy some art as I did last year. During my summer break, I am going to try to support some of the artists I like financially. As the economy remains ever shaky, I have to do what I can to support the groups I care about.
On Saturday I hadn’t sold many tickets, I don’t think I sold more than 20. My prizes were the Giant Chocobo piñata, a Mario Raccoon hat, a Kakurenbo DVD and some gift bag. Though I did not have a huge crowd for my raffle the winners seemed very pleased with their prizes.
I really enjoyed seeing Nikki and Snack for another year. Nikki had some new pictures of her year old daughter Katrina who gets cuter and cuter. I had shipped some boxes ahead of time to the convention expecting to sell enough that I would not need them on the way back. I was still unable to pack two of my piñatas so I gave one the Pikachu ones to Nikki for Katrina’s next birthday. I gave the other to my friend Jason, aka “Crybringer”. He and some of the guys I know form back in Maryland, like Ronzo Murphy and Joe Silver are all working on some really nice comic projects. I’m going to have to work hard to keep up with them!
The only depressing thing about Anime Boston is that I have to fulfill a premise I made before it. I promised that if I did not at least break even at this show that I would cut back on shows and work on a meaningful project, a comic series. I want to create a comic that would be an impressive accomplishment that I can look back on. I want to complete a body of quality artwork, writing and design that I can build from. I will be canceling a significant number of shows. I only want to invest in large shows where I can get the most exposure, network with more artists and get more sales. I want people to know about my characters and their stories and to love those characters as much as I do. Therefore, the summer will be dedicated to laying the groundwork for Bun Bun Café, (formerly “Bun Bun”) a 28-page, 12-issue comic series about the coming of age of two sisters who have to take care of their family’s store during their parents long-term second honeymoon. I will also be streamlining my packaging design portfolio and working on more illustration series. I have just finished creating a polished design for my Character Generator I use to come up with random characters. For the longest time it was handwritten on a beat up piece of cardstock. End of the year, I have no school for a few weeks in order to get my ducks in line. Turning one's studio into an efficent business takes a lot of work, I hope the investment pays off. As usual failure is not an option. My advice for anyone who wants to get serious about thier art I can give you one suggestion: GET ORGANIZED, get a system to keep track of everything. Even if it only makes since to you, come up with a good system to keep up with professional work and personal enterprises. The more money you start working with the more complicated things get. Well I have lots to finish before school starts again on Jan.8, don't expect to see me, I'm taking Astronomy with lab Here are my goals before the school year.

Finish price checking and finalize spring quarter equiptment budget (seriously).
Finish all current contracts.
Complete DreamwaverMX Tutorial
Type all comic scripts (I have a lot of hand written dribble >_<.
Finish designing eX-O Studio forms, signs and brochures.
Renew Hosting
Obtain a learner's permit . . . finally (I'm 23 and I've never learned to drive )

After much debate and price checking I have come up with the fallowing convention/festival list. Most of the shows are in the Atlanta area and I may add more Atlanta area festivals since I have begun making more novelties that appeal to the general public. I would try to go to one or two more out of town shows but have you SEEN how REDICULOUS plan tickets are getting? I remember when I could go from ATL to DC with only a two months prior to reservation and get a far around $200. I look for fare to DC for October of NEXT year and it's $270, wtf!? So this is all you get. See y'all around!

I've been reorganizing my studio latley. I am working on seperate portfolios so I can more effectivally advertise to different art markets (anime, furry, traditional, etc.)

I have also finally gotten around to photographing some of my older studio work. I've had brought a digital camera to document my work at school and to catelog my older stuff. But so far I only had time for school. After this I will catalog all of my comic ideas for potential development.

I will post a convention schedule soon, Just to warn all of you I will primaraly be attending local conventions and art markets in Atlanta. Artists' alleys are becoming a financial risk requiring much more planning and strategy. Not to say I won't be going to some out of town cons, it's just that I want to expand my local markets.

Often I feel, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, that my body is to weak for my ambition. I wish there were 48 more hours in each day. I hope one days I can out evolve sleep if I just meditatate hard enough. But unfortunatly we all have a set amount of time and resource that we have to allocate efficiently in order to persue what is important and to sustain out livelyhood.

Right now, other then the unavoidable requirement of allocating time and effort to feeding and housing myself I have been devoting my resources to maintaining a 3.25 at Georgia State University. Perhaps I was to ambitious to think I could do all of that and still do a comic book. Not to say I'm totally goign to put Bun Bun on the back burner, but that I have to work on making the other two easier so that I can devote more time to art. I haven't been able to sit down and create for a few hours in weeks. So until I reach that "perfect mix" Bun Bun" and other comics will be in a promotional stage.

I have realised that it is hard to finish even the first issue of a comic book without trying to finish the general overall storyline. Anime Boston was fun as usual, though I was in too much pain to notice, hopefully I will be more cheerful at Anime Mid Atlantic. I will probably 'hound to AMA to save money since I only broke even at Anime Boston. Which really says somethign about how gas prices are effecting people, I usually shatter sales records at this show. Even though I was only there Saturday I should have sold more. Oh well, it's give and take. Pretty much the same stuff in two weeks except for the FIRST ISSUE OF BUN BUN!! :boggie: SO I should get moving!

I give up, I try to update here on Sundays, but I end up using this much well earned day off surgically attached to my drawing table. SO I will have to say updates will be SUnday/Monday-ish. Regardless, I will try to keep the updates regular, even though I really shouldn't even be taking a break right now to update. Even though I will not have Bun Bun ready for Anime Boston, I still have many unfinished products that must be finished by Friday. Okay so technically it's not Sunday anymore, but it's the thought that counts. I was doing what I'm suppose to be doing, drawing. I know that PR and promotion are important, but if I spend too much time with it I won't have time to create anything to show for all that promoting! Speaking of which I'm busting my arse trying to get Bun Bun ready for Anime Boston (which I'll be late for ). I had Monday off, but I agreed to take a bartending shift for a co-worker, which takes away more drawing time. Not as a favor, but to help with my indespensibility at work and I need more funds for a few more items to make my booth look extra spectacular. Oh well, I finished the last four pages of a six page ink comic in one day. If I put my mind to it, I should be able to pull off 8 remaining pages of a b/w toned comic . . . and my plant kits . . . and new prints . . . and make signs . . . I'll figure it out.

I will be arriving late on Friday to Anime Boston so my booth will NOT be set up on FRIDAY. Because of that I'm affraid I'm going to have to limit how many "on site" commissions I will be able to take to about five, so order early!

Whew! What a week! But I am making some progress, so far I have been updating my web galleries and blogs on their regularly scheduled day. Here at deviant art updates will be primarily on Sundays, my consistant day off. So stayed tuned.

Today I spent ages trying to scan a lot of stuff. For products, comics, for posting, silly stuff. If you go a long time without a scanner many drawings tend to pile up. Hopefully I can finish most of what I scaned.

Herbin' girls plant kits are still on schedule to premiere at Anime Boston. These plant kits are going to be so cute AND encourage botany.

Not much progress on Bun Bun this week, I'm going to try to finish all unfinished pages before I start any new ones.

The Final Fantasy Bedtime Book (first debuted Anime Weekend Atlanta 2005) is going to be retweeked into a postcard set. I will post a few of the original pics before I alter them.

If you live in the Atlanta area, I will be autographing comics on Free Comic book day for the Purssia Press comic anthology. I will be at Criminal Records. Located near Moreland and Euclid in the Little 5 Points shopping district.

Dispite a hand injury that has put me slightly off schedule, I will still try to have the first issue of Bun Bun, my feature bi-monthly comic, ready for it's ANime Boston Premire.
