it's quite moving to see this photograph again - it's only one year old, but it seems such a long time ago. I was testing my newly-acquired bronica sq-a - come to think of it, the two films I shot on that day came out perfect, considering it was the first time I was using the camera. the model was this lovely girl, charlotte - the best model I've ever worked with. I do miss her, and I do miss those days when I could just do photoshoots for fun - it seems that time was more manageable back then.

one of my next year's resolutions will be to try to arrange a new photoshoot with charlotte - even if that means tracking her through europe - happily, I do enjoy travelling as well.

one more new year's resolution will be to create more time for personal projects. I need recreational time, and I don't get any... the lyrics I used on this photo can totally describe my current day-to-day life:

anyway, I can try anything it's the same circle that leads to nowhere and I'm tired now.
anyway, I've lost my face, my dignity, my look, all of these things are gone and I'm tired now.
but don't be scared, I found a good job and I go to work every day on my old bicycle you loved.
I'm piling up some unread books under my bed and I really think I'll never read again.
no concentration, just a white disorder everywhere around me, you know I'm so tired now.

...although ok, you can remove the sad miserable feeling - but the mind-blowing tiredness of it all applies. you can also remove the bicycle - it's stuck in the basement for such a long time that a whole generation of spiders now calls it "home, sweet home".}

5. I am sick of driving cars, I want to move in a place where I just won't need the bloody things on an everyday basis. (only one exception: I love driving my beetle.)
6. I don't play any musical instrument, and that's a shame.
7. I want to learn French so that I can read the original texts of Baudelaire, Moliere, Voltaire, etc.
8. I love taking photos and not having to use photoshop at all - I enjoy film and toy cameras because they get the desired effect straight out of the box.

+++ working mostly with film these days. ilford xp2 rules..! my minoltina also rules! 40mm/f1.7 lens on a full manual rangefinder that fits in your pocket, what more can you ask?

+++ also got a couple of old SLRs - the Fujicas are greatly under-rated, the only mirror that's quieter than theirs is the Leica R series one...

back from barcelona.

great times, many photos, strange weather, lots of beer, LOTS of music, some really funny moments, endless walking, got to see some gaudi but nothing else [lack of time], will definitely return to this city for tourism.

music highlights: mgmt, portishead, explosions in the sky, health, british sea power, cat power, the strange death of liberal england, okkervil river, dinosaur jr, silver jews, les savy fav, lightspeed champion.

rufus wainwright sucked (klapsomounis lemeeee), tindersticks were ok but also too slow-paced, animal collective were good but I was relaxing at that time and I didn't give them the attention they deserved.

you don't really expect me to post photos that soon, do you?

ps: went into a bar where they served me tanqueray-tonic in a 0.5 lt. brandy glass..! it took me an hour to finish the bloody thing..! and this for 5Â..! hot damn!

_{:: je rÃªve ::} ]]> *thicktheo a beetle story http://thicktheo.deviantart.com/journal/16908801/ http://thicktheo.deviantart.com/journal/16908801/ Sat, 16 Feb 2008 04:19:24 PST ...well, took me a while to post a photo of my beetle - naturally, everybody else (=nikosalpha, =L-N-E, *styliano and, in the past, ~CookieDreamshoes) beat me to it - I have a tendency to take photographs and then bury them in my archive for a long time.

this car has been in my family for 20+ years now, and we bought it back then in order to replace our first beetle - that's a lot of beetle love..! originally it had been a racing car owned by a VW mechanic, who had made a lot of improvements and had added a lot of special stuff. as the years went by, most of that stuff was gradually removed - now all that's left of that era is the small sport steering wheel, the extra short gear stick and the huge tires.

it is my favourite car for many reasons apart from its appearance - I consider it a barebones, no-frills car - this is the kind of machinery that warns you: "whatever goes wrong, it's your fault - don't expect me to brake fast or not to slip when you make a swift u-turn". you can't blame this car for anything - either it starts up and works, or it doesn't - either you know your limits, or you end up in the opposite wall - there is no safety catch, there is no sly gray territory - this is black or white stuff.

anyway, enough with the talk, on the photos.
