I think most everyone who visits my Deviantart page here knows that Arcana is my baby. Its a webcomic I've written/am writing about two young women. Its a romance and an adventure set in a multiverse based on the Tarot.

Unfortunately, the artist I was working with (the third artist so far) had to step down. Jamie has life, work, and a growing sewing business to worry about. She's going to still help out with covers, splash pages, maybe even then tarot cards themselves.

So, the long and short is I need an artist. I want Arcana to be at least once every five days. I'd prefer twice a week. I need someone dedicated to it. There won't be money at first but I think it will grow into something bigger that will make money with care, luck, and planning. If you know someone who is interested, please get them in contact with me.

I included her because I thought it would be neat. I wasn't really expecting a plug but the good people at Likely Stories gave me a really nice one both on their site and in their twitter feed.

So, wow. Amazing. I guess I better get Friday's page ready. Friday marks the start of 2nd Shift's first big "plot" (in such a way that a slice of life comics have plots).

Work continues on Arcana. We're hoping for a first week of July debut. As I think any comic artist can attest to, the first several pages are often hard because you're getting used to drawing the same characters over and over again. Arcana's manga style, action content, and unusual elements (fantasy and noir and more) make it harder than most. Jamie's doing an amazing job and we've just about finished up the first month's worth. After we have two months, Arcana will begin. After that, it should hopefully continue uninterrupted for at least four months, with the possible exception of a winter break for some holiday downtime.

In other news, I've decided that I need to work on my own art and I have another story to tell. I'm going to have a comic called 2nd Shift out next month. It'll be a more contemporary story, more akin to a sitcom than an adventure.

2nd Shift follows the adventures of Asimov, a bright guy stuck in a copy shop. As the comic opens, he's being forced to take over the management of the 2nd shift of the shop, which includes some interesting characters (all of whom has been shown here, though perhaps not in their final form). They include:

Asimov (Az): A twenty-something who is bright and good with technology but never went to college. He's responsible but he lacks ambition. He works as a tech manager at the copy shop (the guy who takes care of the computers and machines) but because he is technically a manager, he's roped into running 2nd shift when another manager can't make it. Asimov's also very pretty. Bishi pretty. And it bugs him a lot.

Zoe: Zoe's the little sister of the shop's manager. She's a free spirit who might seems something of a contradiction to many people. She's punk in style but abstains from drugs, alcohol, and meat. Like Az, she seems to have no ambition in life, which is why her brother's given her a job at the shop.

K.C.: K.C. runs the black and white press. He makes the machine sing. When he runs it, the press never breaks down, never jams. At the same time, he's terrible with customers because he seems to be living in his own fantasy land. He talks to the press. The question is, does the press talk back?

Charles: Charles is the color specialist, running the color copiers. But that's only what he does to pay the bills. He'll tell anyone who listens that he is an artist! A painter! A master of color and above the petty concerns of mortal men. The truth is, he really is a good artist but because he refuses to "submit to the petty squabbles of the commercial art industry" he's stuck at the shop.

Eddie: Eddie's big. Very big. Huge, even. Most people assume that since he's a big guy he's also a dumb guy. The truth is, he's pretty bright. Eddie doesn't talk much but when he does, his words carry weight and have meaning. He is married but no one has ever met his spouse. He works three jobs. No one knows why he needs the money.

Other characters will include the shop manager, the day manager, and possibly the black and white press (in K.C.'s mind, anyway)...

We don't have a timeline yet but I have to say that it'll likely be two months before we get to the putting out pages aspect of things, unfortunately. Which is 200 more views than there were Spartans at Thermopoli and, yet, my page is more historically accurate than a bad movie based off a worse graphic novel.

Seriously, why do people let Frank Miller write?

Arcana moves closer to debut. I've secured the site and the software's being prepared. The art's being done. I've got the first 16 strips done and I've worked out the plot for the next 8 and need to write them up. I'm excited and impatient and nervous.

On the home front, my wife's now about 10 weeks pregnant so we're expecting sometime in September. I got some art practice in this weekend and I've been receiving steady work in my freelance graphic design gig.

So, things ain't so bad.

At the moment I'm looking for someone to partner with me in the creation of a webcomic. It is called Arcana and is a tarot-based interdimensional romantic adventure. I have 14 scripts written but my art isn't of the quality I'd like yet. I just don't have the versatility. Also, I like the creative process involved when two people work together. If you're interested, feel free to let me know and we can talk. I'm going to post the summary to a literary deviation.
