Trouble with your Wacom driver not booting properly on windows? For the longest time I had problems with my Wacom tablet being ready to work once Windows finished booting. When I picked up the pen it just didn't move. When I tried to open the Wacom Tablet Properties I got the message that the driver did not load or something. Only way to resolve this was to reboot the machine. Not via 'restart' no... a complete shutdown was necessary. Very annoying when your Windows takes a while to boot. Mine surely does.

Comic fans around the world, for a long time thought, that a movie like this one would be impossible. And their concern is quite understandable. Marvel, for the past 5 or 6 years, slowly built up momentum for this movie. They did it with small little scenes in all the superhero movies. Most famous one probably the one after the credits in the first Iron Man movie. Where we get to see a Nick Fury character for the first time. Since then we had similar scenes in Hulk 2, Thor and Captain America.

This is the first movie this year that owned a big bright spot on my movies radar. The trailers looked fine and made me interested. It 's also always interesting to see what studios and directors can make of a very very old Scifi story. Especially when it comes to design things.

The original story 'The Princess of Mars' came out 1917 and was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. In the following 30 years more books and shortstories spawned. All of them exploring the fantastic world created in the first book. Due to the indeed very old story I found it very appealing to see what Hollywood can make of that material. Due to its earlier release in the US I read and heard quite a lot about the movie and decided to see it now, since it finally reached europe. This review contains spoilers so be warned if you're interested in seeing the film.

Pretty much all the reviews I saw mentioned that the movie has quite the 80s tone and feel going and I have to agree. All that made me not expecting too much since I'm not too much of an 80s fan at all. And I guess half the audience that was in the theater did not get the movie they expected. I, on the other hand, got the movie I expected and… really really liked it!

This time we have some movies that, from my point of view, are quite underrated. First of all 'Mission To Mars'. It doesn't get good reviews and overall it doesn't seem to have a lot of fans. I, for my part, really really like it. The visuals are amazing and show a Planet Mars that looks real to me. some really beautiful matte work in it. The other one is  Disney's Treasureplanet. This movie is visually so inspiring and unique that i wished it would have a higher ranking within all these movies Disney made over the years. This movie is amazing and deserves a high recommendation if you have the chance to catch it somewhere. We also have some classics like 'The Abyss' and 'Planet Of The Apes'. These movies shouldn't be touched ever. 'Planet...' already got a remake from Tim Burton and it's not a very good result in my opinion. Nothing can replace that fabulous Charlton Heston in the original.

'Children Of Men' is a good example for a very amazing atmosphere and story. The visuals there are amazing too but aren't the main drive in the movie. This list is not listed by first = best and last = worst movie. It's just a list of movies that you should have seen if you want to do Sci-Fi based art nowadays. I'm a big big movies fan and a very visual person. Now these days with tigaer melting summer temperatures i'm not the most active person. Limiting all activities to a minimum. =D However... right now i'm taking a little break from everything. The last project really left me a bit empty. After so much work on that painting and the animation i need to recollect my sanity a bit. Just a short update on things from me. Again i noticed that i'm not the most public person. I could write more journals but somehow i never do. Well, big updates are rare these days anyway. In my last poll i asked you guys how long your typical render times are when you work 3d. It's an interesting result. I guess it comes from not many voters rendering in print size (3500px and more). I could be wrong though. I only know that my final print size renders always take more than 12hrs. That is a minimum standard for me. In rare cases it's less. But never less than 6hrs. 3d can be a very time consuming activity. Issue 03 of the Digital Art Magazine just got available and i wanted to let you guys know that there is a nice workshop in it. Thematically it's about extending photos for which i choose basic Digital Matte Painting methods to get the idea across. Here we are and it's 2010. Man doesn't this sound like a Sci-Fi movie? 2010... it's crazy. A new decade. Time goes too fast. Beside of that i've been working on a few things here. First one is a short animation to my Red Dawn painting. I'm currently trying out certain camera mapping techniques in Vue. So far it doesn't look too bad. I hope to finish this soon. Oh and no big expectations please... it's just a few seconds long. But this time i really want to make it look like it's done for a big movie. Lets see if i'll be successful... :D

Last week i made a trip to berlin to visit some good friends. To me it's true what so many people say and think... berlin really feels special. It's got a certain atmosphere. After some brief experience with the Advanced Photoshop Magazine in the past i now had the opportunity to write a tutorial for the UK Magazine’s issue #60. I picked my ‘Artificial’ artwork for this tutorial. That’s mainly because i made this picture without a tablet. Alright, 2 days ago i was lucky enough to get me some tickets for the 3D preview of James Camerons 'Avatar' in our Imax. I've never seen any movie in 3D before so i thought this would be the perfect chance to start. All i knew was that other 3D movies were always kind of disappointing to the viewers. Hearing reviews and stuff. That's what Mr Cameron wants to change. He wants to visually place you in the world he and his artists created. He wants you in the middle of everything. As if you're a part of what you're seeing.

Alright. Time for a little update here. My illness is finally practically gone. Man that's something you don't even wish your worst enemy. Inflammation of the middle ear is the evil! Holy moly, this was a nice week. 'Gates to Elysium' got the CG Choice Award, Gold Award on CGHub and a Daily Deviation. Now that is a motivation package! Finally the winter is gone around here! This time it was quite a long and heavy winter. The cold can be a pleasing thing but not if you're a hot blooded person like me! *rawr* I'm more a summer person. Ok i'm complaining when it's too cold AND when it's too hot... nonetheless! I like the warmer conditions more. It also means the outside becomes more colourful again. Green trees, flowers in all colors and blue sky! No to mention women in skirts and sexy dresses. :eyes: Yes, i'm happy that summer is coming around! And my birds like it too. =)

Two days ago i had the questionable privilege to celebrate my birthday. Yay! And yet another year older. =) No, as every year, there did not much happen that day. I practically got me the presents myself earlier this month. This means a new machine to work with. It's pretty much uptodate and very fast! Intel i7 920 with 12 gigs of ram. As well as a new 24" screen. It's crazy how fast you get used to that stuff. Nontheless... the speed and better picture quality of the screen should help me a big deal. Fully Feathered Grown Up Bird!

In my january journal i wrote that my zebrafinch couple got offspring. People who follow me on twitter already know it but... well, since back then, this little ugly little godcreature became a real flying... featherball! It's amazing to watch actually. It's making the same noises and is the same artist in the air like its parents. Lets just say the little one is completely alright and feels good. =)

Offspring!

Some of you might know that i'm a big fan of birds. So i have a parakeet sitting on my desk and two zebra finches. The finches got offspring now. I was kinda shocked when i discovered it. Didn't peek into their nest for a few days... and there it was. =) It seems to be alright and fine so lets see what happens. The finch parents take good care of it. Not long and it's THE DAY again. I personally must say that i never was a too big christmas fan. Nonetheless it's one of two days in the year that make me feel a certain mood. It's weird. It certainly is nice to see the reaction of friends when they open their presents. Alright gentlemen, i never was a toooo big startrek fan. I love the movies and the characters but i'm more for the starwars stuff. Now i saw the first real trailer for the new startrek movie from j.j. abrams. Holy moly! This thing should kick major ass. They seem to have completely revamped 'everything'. It looks... 'FRESH'. Can't wait for may 09.

Advanced Photoshop Mag UK

The advanced photoshop magazine released its 50th issue and celebrates it with a nice cover showing 50 featured artists work. Mine got placed in the bottom row and looks pretty neat i must say. The other artworks look great too and it is a nice thing to have made it into this selection. alright ladies and gents, as you might have noticed i released a neat wallpaper pack two days ago. It includes regular screen sizes, widescreen, HD and dualscreen wallpapers. I'm currently using the dualscreen version. Just looks nice here. I had the previous 3 months a gray color background. Pretty depressing huh? So this colorful thing works quite nice.

What a show.

The supporting band was 'elbow' from manchester, england. Never heard anything from them before. The music they played was perfect for heating up the audience. Just one thing to say about the quality... what support band has a voilin setup for just 40 minutes of play time. It was beautiful. Especially the ladies playing the voilins! :eyes:

The actual r.e.m. concert was a blast too. Because of their new album which, musically, headed more back to the good old 'rock' r.e.m. instead the recent 'experimental' stuff, they had lots of their older songs in the concert setlist. Hey hey,

i'll be much underways over the next week as the title might indicate. Tomorrow will be a R.E.M. concert in wuerzburg. Hope it'll be a great show. Then saturday i'm heading to my old hometown to visit this years games convention in leipzig on sunday. It will be crowded like hell i think. Not a fan of big crowds but the future of this event in leipzig is very hazy, even with new visitor records every year. So just in case this time is the last time in leipzig, i want to be there. Two days later i'll head to berlin to meet up some good old friends and to kick :devigy:'s ass. :) Basically sightseeing... having a good time. ]]>
