Had a lovely day though unfortunately there was a bit of school work to do, but still managed to have a very nice dinner with the family who all took the time to come out and celebrate with me which was very much appreciated.

In other news I'm insanely busy which is why I haven't visited dA in so long, and I do miss it too Loads of assignments due and a big party to plan for the weekend so I am frantic to try and get everything done in time. Wish me luck!

I wish I had time to check out everyone's beautiful artwork and to update my gallery but it's just not in the cards at the moment. I did get a picture of mine into a magazine though. It was for a design comp and you can see the picture up here: [link]
Mine is on the 2nd line, 3rd across. It didn't win but did get a mention as a notable entry, which is still pretty exctiting.

For anyone who has a chance to get down there and see the Pixar Exhibit, it is well worth the trip. The walls are covered in the most beautiful concept artwork (I wanted to take it all home with me) and there are dozens of original maquettes too. They even had a zoetrope with little figurines of the Toy Story characters which was the most amazing thing I 've ever seen.

The shopping in Melbourne was pretty good too (Krispy Kreme anyone?)

But now I'm back and feeling very artistic for the first time in a long time but it's hard to make myself work on my animation....in fact, I really should go do that now *wanders back to desk*

At the moment I’m working on an animated music clip for a local singer/songwriter which should keep me busy for a few months- it’s nice to finally be putting all my uni training to good use (and I don’t have to feel guilty about calling myself an ‘animator’ on my main page.)

I’ve also been painting a few pots lately and fingers-crossed I might be getting some more stable work in that area, which would be pretty groovy- I could sure use some extra cash because…

Sooo the rules are I've got to list 6 wierd things/habbits/hates about meself and then tag 6 other people.

HERE WE GO!

1. I LUV pancakes. Dunno if that's wierd necessarily, but it's very true. Pancakes ROCK!

2. I listen to DVD audio commentaries when I work. Sometimes I just get sick of the radio because they're playing bad songs or whatever, so I chuck in a DVD. I listen to podcasts too- but that's not so wierd.

3. I wash my hair everyday. That falls under the category of things I HATE becuase it's not something I enjoy doing. I just have wierd hair and if I go 2 days without washing....lets just say it aint pretty.

4. Caffine has little to no effect on me. I've tried coffee, red bull, V....nuthin works. I know not of this 'Buzz' of which you speak. The result is that I'm basically tired all the time and there's nothing I can do about it.....except go to sleep earlier, but that's just downright silly.

5. I have sensitive hearing. Which isn't to say that I have particularly GOOD hearing, just that loud or persistant noises drive me crazy when they don't seem to bother other people. Though I can tell when the tv in my bedroom is on, even if it's muted and the door is closed and I'm upstairs. I think I heard that most people under 25 can do that anyway so it's not so special after all.

6. My lucky number is 13.

My friend Shane is having a Birthday this month and he's such a sour-puss that he wont even tell me what day it is or let me throw him a party. I guess not all people like birthdays but I thought it would be nice to show him that they CAN be fun by hosting a little competition.

So if anybody wants they can make something to wish Shane a Happy Birthday ie; card, poem whatever and send me a note to let me know. Can you say "Disaster?"

That might be an exaggeration, but I had some difficulties nonetheless. I tried working with a couple different types of brushes that my boss gave me but it just scraped the base paint away and made the designs run. I had to retouch them all and finally found that using a smaller, softer brush worked much better.

I don't know why but the biggest problem I had was the base paint coming off, which doesn't makes sense because it had had days to dry before I varnished it. So now I'm asking if anyone has any advice for me on how to varnish these pots without destroying them. I'm using acrylic paints- I don't know if that makes a difference.

Someone suggested using a spray on sealant (or hairspray- don't know if that's such a good idea,) any ideas on that? Would it make the paint run too, and would it be OK to varnish over top of that?

If you have any thoughts, or can direct me to someplace that I might find more information I'd be very appreciative.

First- I started work experience on Monday at the Royal Brisbane Womens something something Hospital Foundation where I'm just sort of doing odd jobs until they need me to do something artsy. I'm not getting paid and it's fairly tedious work so far but looking at the big picture, it could be good for the ol' resume.

Then on Tueday morning I finally got a reply from a job I'd applied for the week before and had totally given up hope of ever getting- so I was rather stoked about that. It's just a part time job painting designs on pots that are then filled with a bouquet of cookies and other little gifty items to give as presents. The company is just new and is called the Cookie Garden [link] and I'm pretty excited to get started there. (But I don't want to jinx anything because I still have to get approval from the main person in charge who's been away this past week- fingers crossed!) And then if all that weren't enough I get home on Tuesday to find I've been given a Daily Deviation for one of my pics. That was a crazy shock- I've only just cleared out the 800 messages in my message centre. I don't think I'll ever see that many again, but it was absolutely wonderful to recieve so many, and everyone had such kind things to say too. Thanks again to everyone who stopped by!

And finally, I caught up with some friends last night for a going away party which was a lovely way to wrap up what has been a strange and very fortunate week.

So in case you were wondering what I've been getting up to lately- I've graduated uni and now I'm looking for a job- which is why I have so much time to submit art all of a sudden. I'm sort of simultaneously working on my portfolio and getting a website up and going- hopefully I'll have some sort of stable work-type thing happening soon.

On a more personal note, my big Wacom tablet broke down after only a year and now it's in Sydney getting repaired. I don't expect to see it anytime soon.

For the moment I have to use my very small- potcard-sized Wacom which can be a little frustrating.

Also, it's very very very hot right now and it ain't pleasant.

Lets start with the most recent- Graduation! Yay! It was on Friday and it was lots of fun. I got to wear the hat and the gown and go up on stage and do a wierd little salute to the chancellor. It was great to see some of my classmates from uni again and my Mum was in the crowd, which made me so proud Afterwards we had lunch and did some shopping and Mum bought me a beautiful pendant as a graduation gift. So it was a pretty groovy event, all in all.

And about 4 weeks ago(why did I leave this so long?) my class had its public screening of all our films, which was also pretty cool. I got to say g'bye to my classmates and catch up with some old friends who came by to check out my film, which didn't win the viewers' choice award but came in 4th (not too shabby) and got alot of postive feedback. My business cards also went like hotcakes- though I suspect they were only taken by business card enthusiasts and not industry scouts intent on giving me job security. Oh, well- it's still good that people liked the design. We also sold badges made featuring characters from our films and I'm pleased to say that mine were really popular.

After 2 years it's really sad to say goodbye to all the friends I've made at uni, knowing that I probably wont see most of them again, but we had good times and the graduation and screeing were great fun and I suppose that all good things must come to an end. Hopefully we'll see eachother again one day, out there in the real world.

Today I've been chilling out- deservedly I think, after my many months of toil- but now I've got to get myself ready for the job hunt, and that means; portfolio, business cards, resume, website, showreel- and then I've got to pluck up the courage to actually apply (beg) for jobs. It's kind of scary not knowing what lies ahead, I haven't had much luck with art jobs in the past (most people seem averse to paying artists for their work.) If anybody has some advice I'd love to hear it- I think I need all the help I can get.

I've had to do a film, a showreel, portfolio, advertising project as well as random projects and assignments. I'm still waiting to get my results to find out if I've graduated or not. Good news is, 2 out of 3 teachers thought my showreel was the best in the class! Despite the fact that I was grasping at straws to find content for it.

We're having a major film screeing next week followed by some others the week after and at the moment I'm just trying to get my film up to scratch for that. I submitted it for assessment last week, but it still needs some tweaking before I'm ready to show it to the world.

It's annoying that even though all my classes are finnished and my assignments handed in, I'm still working flat out on this project. In the words of Bilbo Baggins; I need a holiday.


....and when I'm done with this, I've got to find a job! Aghhh!

Mum was giving me a lift home from the train station and some woman completely ignored both the Give Way sign and the car driving past her and slamed into the side of us- luckily it was at the back and niether of us was going too fast.

It was really crazy though- Mum was pretty shaken and the other driver was totally freaked out and two tow-trucks rocked up even though no body called for them. Anyway, both cars managed to drive away OK and aside for a few aches and pains Mum and I were fine- our car on the other hand might need a shiny new hubcap and a fresh coat of paint.

I'm working on a coulple of pics at the moment, but it might be some time before they're up in the gallery because I'm also trying to do tidying up around the house- in particular, my messy bedroom with the desk I can't even get to coz it's so covered in rubbish ^ ^;

I've got a few other picture ideas on the backburner too, but I really want to start work on the storyboards for the film I'll be making this year at uni. I've only got 1 month left before I got back to school so I want to get a running start on that.
Fingers crossed, I might even have an animatic by the end of the month, or something close anyway, so I'm really eager to start work on that.

But first I have to get my Mum a b'day prezzie...eek!

Part of me wants to put it off until later beacause the holiday season is so much fun and right after Christmas day it all goes away.

Anyway today I got up early (6:30 ahhh!) and started my holiday baking..actually, I continued the baking coz I really started 2 days ago. So far I've made peppermints, rocky road and today I did the biscuits- macadamia shortbread, glass-window biscuits and gingerbread. And tomorrow I shall construct my gingerbread house! Mwah ha ha ha!

I got all my wisdom teeth taken out in hospital yesterday and nowI feel like crap. I'm tired and sick and I look like a puffer fish. I'm not in much pain but I've definately felt better, I just can't wait till the swelling goes down and I can start eating real food again.

Everyone always asks me what the specks are but I can never remember all I can say is that it's 256MB RAM and a 40G hard drive and it also has a multi burner so I can burn DVD's and CD's. It has a few issues, like the abscence of common Windows programs like Word, but all in all I 'm very happy to have it, even though it's kinda heavy and a bitch to carry to school. I feel better now, though still a bit sick, but I had a fever before and I made brownies yesterday that make me nausious to think of now- which is a sad waste of time and chocolaty goodness.
Normally any kind of sickness on a school day is something to be celebrated, and in my current state I don't much feel like making the trek up to uni, but I did have many plans for my day. 2 assignments to hand in, project work to do, a visit to the lost and found and a teeny bit o shopping- so it's a bit annoying and I'm stressing a bit about my assignments which were all finished.

Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow and I'll be able to get some work done, because I still have lotsa stuff to do. It's always hard starting new classes in a new place, but I'm looking forward to starting my lessons, I just wish that they were on a bit earlier in the day instead of starting in the late afternoon. I have just completed Day One of what is essentially a four day orientation. It's supposedly 3 days but I still have to go in Monday for a 'welcome breakfast.'

There's also all this compulsory stuff. I have to do a 2 hour computer lab and they're also apparently trying to force us to watch 5 hours of, what I think is student films. Now, I'm all for student films but I don't like being forced to watch them, and I don't like that the only time I can watch them is from 3pm to 8pm when it takes me an hour and a half to get home on the train.

I'm sure I'll have a better perspective on how relevant this all is once the week is over, and perhaps when the time comes they will infact be more flexible on the whole 'compulsory' thing. And the day wasn't bad, just long and in the end it was loverly to meet some of my new classmates. My work and the internet calls to me but its just so so so hot *collapses and weeps*
