I checked my stock account for the first time in a few weeks just now, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people have used my stock. For the record my three stock photos of the dead mouse were in policy violation so I took the remaining two down after the first was removed from my gallery.

I'm not going to cause trouble and get everything taken down or banned over something so assanine.

I do take photographs of dead animals and post them as stock photography. If you'd like to see my photos and have mature content blocked please read this and then follow the link at the bottom. Even if you can get passed the mature content blocker please take the time to read this.

I'd like to refer to this article in the FAQ right now:

Inappropriate content may include, but is not limited to;



 Specific submissions containing certain forms of nudity as detailed elsewhere.

 Images of deceased animals (such as road kill).

 Images depicting real life animal cruelty.

 Images of real life self-injury or self-mutilation.

 Images of human excrement, vomit, or other waste.

Images displaying road kill, animal cruelty, or human excrement and the like are difficult to classify as "Art" by any standard. While each submission will by judged on a case-by-case basis it is an unfortunate fact that the vast majority of deviants will submit this sort of material simply in an attempt to be offensive.



As any respectable art gallery we at deviantART do not wish our browsing community and other visitors to routinely encounter offensive images while perusing the other artworks available for view here and due to that desire these types of images may be removed without notice.

I want to say here and now that I am not posting these to be offensive and that I find nothing offensive about the images I have in my gallery. All of these animals have died of natural or accidental causes and I just want to share their lives with everyone and hopefully make them useful, if only in death. My images may be taken down regardless, but I'd like for them to stay up.

I have a great reverence for death and simply find it another part of life and a good way to get a good look at a creature that you would never have gotten while it was alive. I do not promote animal cruelty and would never condone the intentional killing of an animal.

I'm ashamed that dead animals are classified in the same way as feces and vomit, I find that somewhat disturbing. I would also like to point out that animal bones and pictures of fur coats are not prohibited which I don't understand; and where does taxidermy fall under all of this? Perhaps it's my personal mindset but I don't see the difference.

I like to photograph dead animals, it's a fascination of mine. Basically it's my reverence for these things that makes me photograph them, I don't fear or try to hide from death. There are some photos in my stock account here that are of dead animals, and while that isn't my sole subject I do take particular pride in the following shots.

This morning one of my cats brought a poor little fledgling that had died in the storm to our back door. I know it was brought by a cat because it wasn't there to begin with but showed up later in the morning. I think it was a blackbird but I'm no expert.

Mom threw it out in a little plastic bag and I wasn't about to beg her to leave it so that I could take pictures (morbid, she'd call me -- although what's wrong with that?) I have a fascination with dead things, you get such a better look when they're dead... life is so fragile.

I only had a small window of opportunity to get photographs of the bird before Rosalie, the cleaning lady, came to empty every last garbage can in the house, because today was the day she comes -- and she came early today too.

So after mom left for work and my brothers left for school I dug it out from the garbage, where coffee grounds had unceremoniously been dumped on the poor thing's Super Sam bag coffin. She had also wrapped it in paper towel. It was heavy for such a tiny bird -- presumably water logged from the storm. It was about the size of my hand if I had to compare. There was no bad smell, just damp paper towel and the scent of coffee grounds.

I carefully unwrapped it and took pictures, then I wrapped the little bird back up, thanked it, and put it back in the garbage where unnatural things would take their course. Poor thing.

PS: I took the photos because I thought they'd be of some use as well as something to remember the unfortunate creature by. I do not have a lack of respect for life or death, so please do not think I am a sick person. I have morbid tendencies but a great reverence for death.

Update (March 23rd): As it turns out my camera must be sent away. Thankfully we DID have an extended warranty. Sadly, it will be gone away for a very long time. Wish it luck.

Update (March 26): Apparently, although my camera is under warranty due to the extended nature of said warranty, there have been some issues. Mom is the one who's been taking care of the camera dealy right now and she's cranky about it and won't tell me exactly what's going on (instead she bites my head off).

Update (March 28):As I thought the problem is with the USB port... great. That means that I have to save up $160 to cover that puppy... it's too bad that's half the price of the camera in the first place. I won't be seeing it for a while, but I'll keep you posted.

Update (March 29): Apparently USB ports break all the time. And are covered if you buy your camera from Best Buy. Says someone experienced in tech stuff. How experieced I do not know. I had some pictures on the main memory card, those might be lost, which pains me so... but I want my camera fixed! It works FINE!!! Even if it's expensive, it's such a God damned waste to just get a new one, and more expensive to get a new one. Mom won't see it that way... but I'm paying for it so I don't really care. I LIKE my camera, it's a GOOD camera. In fact, the thought of not getting that thing fixed makes me quite depressed... I almost cried last night. Partly because it's an outlet for artistic.... blah blah blah. Basically it's what it represents and what I'm without that's driving me insane.

Update (March 30): Okay, I can submit photos, we have a temporary camera, but the shutter button is really hard to press without pushing it too hard and making the picture go blurry. That and the colour quality is kinda crap. But it at least lets me upload old photos and I can attempt to take new ones. The old one is still gonna get fixed, it's better than this one.
