Kind of crossposting from my livejournal ([link]): I'm doing a sketch month for February. This is mainly for myself, but I'm inviting other people to participate if they'd like, because I've received some good response in talking over the idea with others.

Basically, there will be a theme/prompt assigned to each day of the month. The idea is to do a sketch on that day, using that prompt. Optional is also doing a drabble-length story to go with that sketch, if you so desire.

If there's enough people interested (mainly, more than two), then I'll probably set up an LJ community people can join to post their works for others to see (in addition to posting places like here or personal websites).

Right now the list at the given journal entry is mostly empty, but I'm soliciting suggestions from people over there to fill it up. I suppose any days left empty by the end of the month, I'll fill in myself somehow.

Comment here or on that entry if you have some themes to suggest or want to participate and think I should make the community.

Current progress: 4/100

So I'm not doing it as fanart, sue me. ^_^ This will grow as I add more thumbnails to it. Snagged it from ^delya who got it from another deviant who got it... I don't know where. If anyone knows the actual origin of this I'd love to know.

1.) Make 100 pics each pic having a theme listed below. Each pic should have ONE and only ONE theme to it, for it to count.

2.) No time limit so have fun

Regarding the previous post: Somehow the Auto-Update thing got switched off, even though I'd made sure it was on when I was uploading the files to the server. Oh well. It's running fine now, and apparently people are reading it because I'm getting hits.

Regarding the writer search: I did pick one, and actually took one of the others as an editor. Which is nice, because the story notes need organizing, and I'm lazy. ehheh.

Regarding new postings: I think I might post the group of stories I call "Year minus one" here sometime... they've got major flaws to them, but I still kind of like them. I'll probably post them in the descriptions of drawings I do from each one. And I doubt I'll edit them so they'll still have their grammatical awkwardness. Ah, I remember writing in class so fondly... I actually was pretty good at not getting caught doing it, considering only one professor ever nailed me at it in five years, and after looking at my grades in the class decided to just not care. ^_^

I've also picked up a couple of those 100 words lists. I'm starting in on chapter 4 of Red Zone and want to do warm-up sketches before I do the actual pages. (Because chapter 4 is very much an action chapter so I want it to look good.) I figure, between the two, I'll eventually get... oh... maybe a quarter of them done. *l* I might post links to the lists later, I don't think I'll post the full lists here. Other people have done that. ^^

Now, to see if this posts or crashes the work computer... taking all bets!

So the comic didn't update on schedule like it was supposed to... noticed a half an hour ago that autokeen failed to catch it 2.5 hours ago so now I'm stuck in the queue after a manual update, waiting for all the pacific timezone comics to update. Argh. *pokes it some more*

I've got my writer submissions now... It's down to two choices. One has a really solid writing style but made the deadline by only a couple of hours. The other had a good writing style, submitted far enough in advance that he was able to give me a second draft, and did a lot of background planning on it.

I'm kind of tempted to ask the second one to write and the first to edit or something. Argh again.

I need to make this journal pretty sometime... I have the ability, but not the motivation, I guess.

So... I no longer have a writer for Red Zone. I'm not actually surprised, after I let the poor thing sit for so long, I don't blame him for moving on. But I'm wanting to work on it again, so I need a writer to take over the script responsibilities. Preferably someone I can work with really easily, of course. ^_^

[link] is where the existing stuff is hanging out right now. I have script for chapter 4 (and half of 5, but I expect it to get rehashed by whoever comes on board), so I can hold out a little while between that and some little omake I have sketched up that can be completed... Still, I'll be needing someone probably set to go within the next month, so they have time to get settled in and I have time to draw it. I also have decent storynotes and, since it was all my creation in the first place, a good idea of where everything is going. Anyone out there interested?

I really don't know if I can put into words what's going on right now. I'm sure some people know what is going on, at least to some degree.... I'm going to try to explain things as well as I can too. It's easier in a forum like this. If I break down again in the middle, at least I can pause in this and collect myself again.

My mother has been fighting with a horrible cancer for a couple years now, and it looks like the end is coming, and it's not what any of us wanted. We don't know how much longer she has, it could be days or weeks, but there's really nothing short of a miracle that's going to help now. I've always been really close to my mother, moreso than the rest of my family, really... this is hard for me and it's hard for the rest of my family too. I haven't wanted, before, to think about what I'll do without her, but now I'm going to have to think about that. I'm going to have to put aside a lot of my other obligations in order to deal with the immediate situation, so if I owe you some task or favor, please understand. I really don't want to lose her, but what I want and what's going to happen seem to be two completely different things. If you're close enough to offer direct support to my family, we'll probably appreciate it right now. I know I'm going to need some support to get myself through this.

Tomorrow I think I'll go talk to the manager at work about the situation as it is. I'll also try to get over to the school and tell a couple of the people over there who knew her, let them know what's happening. I don't know what I'm going to do. I just don't know. I don't know what to say, I don't know how to explain it. How do you deal with something like this? It's not something that people really know how to handle, I think. It's not something anyone ever wants to handle, but here it is and I have to deal with it somehow. I just don't know how that's going to be.

It scares me, and saddens me. I keep crying over it. I feel lost. I just don't know.

Job update: Still nothing

No, I still don't have a job. But I finally got approved for unemployment benefits, so money isn't as painful anymore for me. ^_^

"The applicant quit due to an uncomfortable work environment and gender discrimination. Submitted information shows that the applicant reported that the store manager was hostile towards female employees due to incidents such as random firing and cutting hours of female employees. The applicant reported that when she was removed from a full-time position to be replaced, without a clear reason, by a new male employee, the applicant quit. The applicant had talked with the manager before, and was told it was the applicant's fault. Since the applicant reported continual stress from workingwith the manager, and since the applicant's requests for relief from the situation was not acted upon, the preponderance of evidence shows the situation was adverse to the applicant, would compel an average worker to quit and become unemployed, and was directly related to the employment or a reason for which the employer is responsible. The applicant quit for a good reason caused by the employer."

See? They figured it out! ^_^ So hopefully by next week I'll have some money again and be able to survive without begging off my parents.

Job update: Still nothing

Character quizzy, ganked from Cyrway, ganked from Wingus, yanked from Windracer.

Who are your main character(s)?:
CE: Gabriel, Maren
RZ: Tsuki, Cor

Who are your oldest character(s)?:
CE: Liora, who doesn't even appear until near the end ^^ Created her when I was 8, I think.
RZ: Tsuki, who pretty much created the RZ universe as a playground where he could be badass ;

Who are your newest character(s):
CE: Of actual characters, Vincent would be the newest, though there's always little bit ones showing up when I do sketch work for it
RZ: Newest that *I* created would probably be Arioch, since after creating the main seven characters, I really haven't had a part in that anymore. ^^

Who is your strongest character(s)?:
CE: For physical strength, probably Arthen or Vincent. For magical, Gabriel
RZ: Tsuki and Madison are fairly evenly matched, I think... ^^

Who is your smartest character(s)?:
CE: Probably Maren. ^_^ Both Gabriel and Arthen are pretty clever too.
RZ: Gayle and Madison. Yeah, the bad guys are actually smart. Eep.

Who is your unsmartest character(s)?:
CE: Gah, I dunno... Jaie? I guess?
RZ: Oh, probably one of the villains yet to come into play. Of the seven main, it might actually be Cor. Not that she's dumb or anything, but the others tend to have some smarts over her. If not her, then Kikuko for the same reason.

Who is your quietest character(s)?:
CE: Gabriel. Easy.
RZ: Remy, she's a mute. Seriously, probably Tsuki. Remy's physically silent, but she makes up for it in bubbly.

Who is your loudest character(s)?:
CE: Tossup between Arthen, Maren and Liora.
RZ: Cor and Kikuko are fairly tied there.

Who is your most annoying character(s)?:
CE: Pollex. Talk talk talk... ^_^
RZ: Kikuko. Talk talk talk... ^_^;;

Who is your most mature character(s)?:
CE: Maren, easily. Sometimes I think he's the only one who can act like an adult...
RZ: Arioch and Tsuki, with Madison behind him, but they can be a bit childish at times too.

Who is your most worried character(s):
CE: Maren. ^^ Gabriel right after him though.
RZ: Cor. She's kind of cute about it too.

Who is your meanest character(s):
CE: Arthen. Little bastard. >.< Adet's a nasty little bitch too, come to think of it...
RZ: Gayle. Arioch at times too.

Who is your kindest character(s)?:
CE: Maren, again. ^^ Gabriel and Esa both are also very kind.
RZ: Remy and Kikuko.

Who are your oldest(In age) characters?:
CE: Iaian, probably. Or Ome. She's older than time, but she's not much of a character... ^^

Who are your youngest characters?:
CE: The kids, when they appear, but eventually they grow up too. ^_^ During the main course of the story, I think it's Gabriel.
RZ: I think Remy was younger than Cor, or they're the same age, but either way, it's one of those two.

----

Goth Characters:
CE: Um... good question. ^^ Some of the designs aren't final yet on that... so far I think it's Vincent.
RZ: Arioch. ^^

Prep Characters:
CE: I don't think there really are much of any of those. Maybe some of the random side mages who haven't been characterized out yet. ^^
RZ: Um... no one, really. ^^

Punk Characters:
CE: Not really anyone. ^^
RZ: Same. ^^

Nerd Characters:
CE: Pollex is kind of a nerd. So is Jaie. ^_^
RZ: Madison is probably the closest to a nerd there. And he's a pretty badass one... Kikuko maybe....

Shy Characters:
CE: Gabriel by far.
RZ: Remy

Social Characters:
CE: Maren's very friendly and social. Esa can be, most of the time. ^^
RZ: Cor tends to be about the most social of them.

Bossy Characters:
CE: Iaian and Arthen. Pollex can be pushy but not really "bossy," just insistent.
RZ: Gayle.

Crossdresser Character:
CE: All the mages in their cute little dresses. ^_~
RZ: Um... I'm thinking one of the villains might've been but right now I don't recall offhand. ;

Rude Characters:
CE: Arthen.
RZ: Tsuki.

Cheerful Characters:
CE: Esa. ^^ Pollex is pretty cheerful too, but in a slightly disturbing way. There's something a bit creepy about an overly happy doctor...

Like the subject says. I left today, and I won't go back Monday. I've had it with Shopko. I've been one thing from doing this ever since that asshole Dan showed up, and he pushed me over today. Ever since he showed up he's been wanting to replace me with a guy, because obviously you can't manage an electronics department without a penis. That was his attitude the first time he ever talked to me, so it clearly wasn't based on my job performance (which the other managers have said is good). He treats all the women working at the store badly, and tilts his hiring towards men. Oh yes, HR is getting a call on this behaviour. I want him to burn. Anyway, today he called me up to his office and told me I was out of Electronics. So, I won't go back on Monday. Kelly (the manager above me and below him) knows I'm not going back. She said she'd told him not to do that, but he did anyway, so she understands and will give me a good reference for my job search. And I do appreciate that. It's kind of nice to be finally out from under him, though at the same time scary since I have no job lined up and have money to make about a week without one, two if I cash into my emergency fund. My paychecks from there are direct deposited, so I'll still get one more for about a payperiod and a half, since my vacation time will cash out now. I'll ask my parents for a little to cover that extra half a week, since I do have my bills and stuff still. Too bad those can't go on hold while I search for a new job. That'll be my task, now, for next week. Already started, somewhat, with talking to one of the computer places, and I swiped the classifieds from the paper at work.... so wish me luck.

And I think that's all I'll miss about that job. I never had to subscribe to the paper.

Which was preinstalled with a few things like Google and Yahoo. I also discovered I could install things like Wikipedia on it (and promptly did). Today, I was playing with it to do a search on Wiki for a long post I did on the Funimation forums (which I'm sure will get me a moderator warning, since one of the mods is not very good at it...) and then started thinking "This is pretty neat. I wish I could search Anime News Network with it... I wonder if I can search Anime News Network with it?"

I can. ^_^ There's a full page of anime search functions, and there's a bunch of sites I do a lot of searches at. So now my search bar is getting more than a little full. I think next up is downloading the tool to take things like Google out. Google's my homepage, I don't need it in my little bar up there... or the sites I've never heard of, either.
Repeatedly. Seems like every time I'm around people showing fansubs, it's the same group of episodes.

And now tonight, I turn on Cartoon Network on a pure whim, and guess what's on...

Edit: It's amazing what a little boredom can do. I've just hit an all-time low of "new messages" on my account, with 21. Down from over 200 when I logged in today. What's left is some lit pieces I want to take time to read, and ~Vig-aka-Weed's gigantic flash program. Plus a couple things I need to remember to come back to, so I can't really take them out yet.

I need to do some Christmas art. I should fire up Flash and get going on the first one, at least, and decide what to do for my personal Christmas thing. Not going to solicit any from anyone because I never get anything anyway. Same with my birthday. *shrug* I might try doing a few for people, if I have time/less stress, but I'm so completely burned out on work that I don't even know about that. "I don't think I'm going to go to work anymore." "So you're going to quit?" "No, I'm just not going to go." "Won't you get fired?" I think that's me. ^_^ And if I get scheduled on Sunday (our planned "family thanksgiving") after requesting it off a month ago and speaking directly to management about having it off, I just won't go. I've stopped taking calls from work, told my mom to just stop taking them here and tell them "Sorry, she's not at this number" and hang up. I get physically ill when I get calls from them. I get physically ill sometimes being there, or getting up in the morning and knowing I have to go there. I was going to wait until I had another job first, before I quit, but now I"ll take unemployment checks over the abuse I'm suffering there. It's like an abusive relationship, y'know? The best thing to do is just walk away. And that's what I plan to do. I'm going to go by the courthouse to see if I can collect unemployment if I walk out, otherwise, I figure if I don't go in, they'll fire me, and then I can collect the unemployment that way. I can work for Call Center or KFC or something horrible like that while I work on my resumes and send them out to a few places, and then I can take off from that job and go where the resumes take me. ^_^ Wouldn't mind something in the south, even if it was just for an interview. It's warmer there than here. ^_^

That store will probably be closed by the end of the year. And I will cheer when all those worthless managers are out of jobs because they ran their own store into the ground. ^_^

On another thing, since I have Black Friday morning off, I'm off to Walmart (at 330 am, UGH!) to pick up a couple things. Mainly I need to get my dad a laptop (wish me luck on that! Dear God what have I agreed to?!) since he wants a cheap beginner laptop... after that, trying for a total of three all-in-one units, with the priority one being mine. So I can solve my scanner problem. ^_^ Wish me luck on that one too! (And I think my bro should go with me to get his own... what does he think I am? Some kind of shopping machine? Augh!)

Now, the jackasses at Shopko decided they want me to come in for 6 hours in the middle of the fucking day, and to hell with my plans. I don't even get a fucking say in the matter! I have to go in, no questions, or I lose my fucking job! Why the HELL am I still working in that place? They have no respect for their employees, all they care about is making sure their managers get their smoke breaks and blow jobs, and to hell with everyone else. God damn it... I can't find a new job fast enough. I can't fucking believe this.... Just because some jackass regional shithead who has absolutely zero real-world experience decides, I have to go in. I don't fucking WANT to, I WANT to go spend time with my FAMILY! But I guess I will go, and then get the HR number and complain. I wonder if I can get that online...

Well, not the number since they're closed up, but I sure got the email address okay. And sent them an anonymous note. Since according to the posters in the lounge, we can be anonymous on HR stuff.

And I have one critical casualty: The scanner.

The bloody scanner has no XP drivers!

*tears hair out*

I'm just getting nowhere on this. Plus, my mobo's not in the best shape... argh... so early next year I'll have to be getting a new mobo/processor/case. At least everything else is still good *knock on wood* so that'll only be about $400 or less, depending on what I opt for.

Already $200 on this repair, but it's all stuff that can be kept for the next one. And now I have to buy a bloody scanner too! *sigh*

Edit: My "My Documents" folder is gone too. Which I didn't think was so bad until I remembered, that's where all my photos downloaded to. All my photos for a year are gone now. I could cry.

I've been without a computer for two weeks now. >.< It decided to blow up on me (well, not literally) and stop working. So I went and picked up a copy of XP, since I've been having OS issues anyway, and was planning to eventually upgrade to that. 98SE is, after all, getting just a little bit old. And a little bit unsupported these days. Tech support on the microsoft website is going away more and more, and more and more programs won't run under it. Thus, I decided to just go ahead and make the jump to XP.

The computer, however, disagrees. Hence the two weeks.

I've been trying for a long time on my own to install, with zero success. I went so far as to spent over three hours (198 minutes by the phone's count) on the phone with Microsoft tech support. Stumped them pretty well too. So tomorrow, when I get off work, I'm dropping in on the three good computer places in town, getting work estimates from all of them, and going with whoever's cheaper (either the place that most recently worked on it or the guy who most recently worked on it who went off and made his own business since then). Likely there's a hardware issue. Yay. More money down the can on this computer. Altogether since I bought it it's probably cost me nearly $1500 by now. Maybe more. Ouch. >.< But then again, I've had essentially the same computer for 7 years now and, outside of the whole OS thing, it's stayed fairly up to date, so I guess I can't complain too much.

I just wish it worked again. My parents have slow dialup and the keyboards at the library stick like you wouldn't believe. And neither place has a proper ergo keyboard. >.< My rollback failed too, so I'm still stuck without it. >.<

On an amusing note, when I had it opened up and the hard drives out yesterday, I cautioned my dad about the gutted computer. His answer was, "What if I stomp in it? Would that fix it?" "Well, yes, only because I'd make you replace all the parts and THAT would make it work." "But it'd be fixed, right?" "Sure, but you'd pay for it."

100 Questions for the Artist

1] What is your pen name?
Vicemage / Gabriel Moonshadow

2] How did you get the name?
It's the main character from my original works (and his title/position in society)

3] Do you use PC or Mac?
PC, baby. No Macs!

4] What software you use most often?
For art? Photoshop 7, though I'm also moving into doing Flash graphics too...

5] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Combination of both, depending on what part of the image I'm working on

6] The color you use most often is?
...Black? For lines and b/w artwork? Course, it'd probably actually be WHITE then...

7] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
Expressions

8] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, depending on the program, level of detail and effort

9] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yes, just because the way I work doesn't destroy them.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Grunge type fonts, usually. They just seem to work with most of what I'm up to

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
300

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
Usually listen to TV if I'm at home, or to the Muzak system if I'm at work

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
Um... I dunno? Anywhere from 1 to... more than 1.

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Printer paper, cheap sketchbooks, cardstock, anything handy

16] How long does it take to ink something?
Totally depends on what I'm inking. On average, around an hour or so.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Original manga. -.-;; I need to get back to drawing that.

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?
I don't do doujinshi really (not to say I haven't been tempted) but I do like it when it's well done. Only when it's well done.

19] Ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Back in around 6th grade I submitted two stories and three artworks to a student literary magazine. That's pretty much it, unless you count the drawings picked up by the campus literary magazine my freshman year (and about the last year the magazine was even halfway decent, it turned 100% pretentious the next year)

20] Did it get published?
Nope

21] Who are your favorite artists?
I dunno ^^

22] What's your favourite Anime/Manga?
Fullmetal Alchemist, in case that's in doubt ^_^;;

23] Favourite Character?
You have to ask?

24] Any artists that you'd like to draw like?
Like to draw like? The good ones. ^_~

25] Do you buy books a lot?
Used to, not so much anymore. I've just been too busy to read.

26] Did you ever buy a book to inspire you to draw?
To inspire? Not especially. I use the "How to Draw Manga" books for references/ideas/drawing exercizes/learning sequential art conventions, but not so much to actually inspire me to draw.

27] Any video games you enjoy?
RPGs mostly. ^_^

28] Any favourite characters from video games?
Um.... I dunno ^_^;; There's a lot I like, from the very few games I've played.

29] Do you have a favourite writer?
I seem to read a lot of Moorcock...

30] Any books you really enjoy?
The Elric saga. ^^

31] Do you write fanfics?
Not anymore, though that doesn't mean another can't randomly pop out. One did not long ago for FMA. I ought to haul it over here...

32] Any music that you often listen to while drawing?
At work, the soft-rock Muzak. At home, it's usually the tv, though occasionally I'll throw Winamp up and listen to that instead.

33] Any recommended songs?
No?

34] Any websites that you totally admire?
Nah.

35] Do you have any sites you want to go everyday?
Want to, yes. Do, not so much.

36] What is your dream site like?
For my own? One that programs and updates itself. ^_^

37] Do you like your own art?
Not often. ^_^

38] What do you enjoy watching on TV?
Adult Swim, Stargate, Monk, Attack of the Show...

Every time I open it up in anything other than the parent window of Internet Explorer, it freezes the entire system and I have to do a soft reset. There's something screwy in the coding between them. So, in a fit of frustration last night, I downloaded Firefox. Right now, I've got ten windows of dA open, and no problems at all. I'm thinking I may have at least found a way around the problem. I'll have to bring in all my link settings and such from Explorer, but the interface of Firefox seems straightforward enough. I'll just have to spend a little time getting used to it....

*knock on wood* I hope I don't end up with dA crashing it out too. Or with my previous Netscape Syndrome. That was a miserable browser.

As you can see from my updated desktop screenshot, I'm back! Well... mostly. I've still got to install my daisy-chain hardware (that should be highly entertaining), and see if I can get my pda working. But beyond those four items, and the mapping software that goes with the pda, I've got everything reinstalled but office. *curses not having an office disk anywhere* That's something to just patiently work on, I guess.

I'm thinking of making a "christening" wallpaper or two, of sorts, for this system, once it's fully up and back in business. Debating between CE/RZ characters, or new FMA fanart... course, I have to find an IDEA too. I want it shiny, that's about all I've managed.

Hah... reformat my drive yesterday, and today it's more than half full again. Can't wait to get that new hard drive. Did a couple preparation things for it as long as I was in there today.

Uploading a few... in telling about it, I said "I have probably hundreds of them. I'm just picking and choosing from those." Just did a count (well, from the properties panel of the folder I'm going through), and I have 1,010 in just this set to choose from. So expect to see scraps showing up for a few days. No, I'm not uploading all 1,010. Just a few from each folder, if any. Some may be skipped entirely.

I'm very much debating on a subset... they're from 2003 so they're toward the end of what I'm going through right now. Anyway... these are the sketches that I would probably tag with the "Mature Content" label. They're not that bad, in general... but the thing is, I was working on body position over clothing position, so they're unclothed, and thus some of the drawings can *ahem* be taken the wrong way. Please comment one way or the other if you think I should post them... otherwise it's mainly up to me and people I chat with, which will probably end in ruling most of them out.
