But what has Vincent Darkheart been up to lately you may ask? No? well I'm going to telly you anyway haha. I've been scripting and writing Nighthaunter short stories and trying to come up with a short story or two about the occult; specifically REAL vampires. Not those pansy little twilight ones. Bah!

Also for kicks I made a cape for a Doc Mid-Nite suit I'm making for the "Wall of Nerd". Problem is it's almost six feet long and it's a semi-cirlce shape so hemming this thing is becoming an irritating process... but I did it!

Anyway, maybe this coming weekend (next for my american friends) I'll have some new stuff put up to show you. My comic pages are looking alot more professional nowadays for those who remember the first Nighthaunter page I ever submitted on DA. Ah yes, I'm indeed happy with these pages!

Also I've been working on those superhero costume 'templates' that I spoke about a few months ago. Basically it's my "scrap designs" that have the look of a fully polished costume design but for whatever reason I'm not using them. With just a few small tweaks they could again look different and unique and maybe someone else will want them... I don't know, but it's something to do in my spare time.

Vista was my favourit operating system that Microsoft had released to date when it came out and I have to say I still prefer it to W7. It looked better, it was easier to navigate, aero actually worked correctly on Vista and it was a more rounded operating system. But I suppose I'll get used to W7.

Anyway, in 2 or 3 days I get Photoshop CS4 and I'll be fairly happy then because thanks to my quad-core processor in this new laptop and 4 gigs of RAM along with an Nvidia Geforce video card this baby will be able to handle just about anything the new software throws at it. Yay for new technology! Hip hip hooray! etc...

lol

Oh, and my comics are being shipped back to New South Wales on Friday I believe, so I wont be without them for too long haha. get this!: my comics way just over 15kg in total. That'd be partly because of my habit of only buying trade's and hardcover rare purchases but still, it blew me away haha. And speaking of awesome comics, I read the Dr. Mid-Nite series that introduced the current Midnight Doctor with a degree in crime fighting: Dr. Pieter Cross. I always loved this guy solely based on his costume and I suppose also because he an owl for a sidekick

but his story is both tragic and heroic and that really appeals to someone like me. Also it was written my current favourite comic book writer Matt Wagner with moody and frankly amazing painted artwork by John K. Snyder III. If you ever get the chance to purchase this I'd really recommend it. the first blind Superhero (and I love to point out he was around for about 10 or 15 years before Daredevil) in all his glory.

So anyway, not sure if I can get back online before Friday due to catching a flight tomorrow at about lunchtime and then non-stop being bucked around between family until Saturday when I get to chillax with a good friend at his parents 25th Anniversary (special invite for their superhero friend lol) and then I get to work madly posting my 3 page wordless short comic story thingywhozit that I've been working on. Tried to make it as much like the old pulps as I could, i.e. it focuses around a private eye with trenchcoat and fedora hat who is trying to take down a drug racket before the "suits" do lol. It's been fun writing this and bringin it to life. Detective + Vigilante crime fighter equals hilarity for at least one panel

And again, yes, Matt Wagners art really impressed me. Obviously it was earlier stuff so not as defined yet as his work in Trinity. But still very good. Also I *spoiler alert* like that they didn't keep the whole Batman getting injected with the formula thing. I never did like that in the original comic.

Really looking forward to reading these. Great art. Great stories... and look, honestly, I STILL get crap about reading comics even though I've had some stuff published as an artist lol. But comics are not for kids when they have blood, guns, brain-splatter, drug references/drug use, and naughty words. All of the above comics have all of that haha, and much, much more. I sometimes wonder why people are perfectly accepting of art, thriller novels, and science fiction seperately, but once combined into the medium of comics they condemn them.

Oh well, work for the next nine and a half hours then I can go "home" which I move out of Wednesday next week and back across the border. Woo! I've missed my blue state lol

Anyway, big changes coming to my gallery people. I've started a New project. Yes actually started the pages. this new project is called "The Return of Owlman...?" it's a story arch of my comic that is set about 10 years from now (since I'm having so much trouble coming up with stories for my current characters haha). the premise is that the majority of my characters are either dead or retired and their sidekicks have risen up to take their places... of course as people know Nighthaunter doesn't have a sidekick anymore so I'm hoping what I chose to do with that situation will not dissappoint.

Anyway, Owlman, who debuted in my DA gallery a few weeks ago, is one of these retired Superheroes however he is still in his late twenties so it's extremely hard for him to go back to civilian life. A new vigilante called Sparrow has appeared in the city claiming to be Owlman's successor and Owlman doesn't exactly like that... and that's as much as I'm going to tell you hahaha. Don't wanna spoil it.

so true believers, thank you all for waiting this long because now you're being rewarded. I'll start submitting pages after I move back to NSW in 2 weeks because that's when I'll have access to a scanner again.

Looking forward to getting this started. Hope you're all excited too.

while being in this state I've had alot of good things happen for me wih my art and I've made alot of friends but home is calling and I just have to return. I'm changing my job when I move back too. I'm going to get my security/crowd control certificate II and then (yes somewhat sadly) I'm going to be a rent-a-cop for a while in Newcastle. My city. Yes, that's right, MY city. If Batman get's Gotham, I get Newcastle lol.

From there I'm gonna keep upping my qualifications and the plan is to start my own private eye office. Kinda like in Angel haha. I always wanted to don the fedora hat and trench coat and be a P.I. just because it's so iconic. I'd love the work.

Artwise I'm pulling in my creative director once I go back down south to help me get my site up and running and help me with the webcomic. I can write a mean screenplay but as for coming up with a solid plot, I'm not your guy. So yes, the comic about several members of my superhero line-up will be up soon.

Also, trying out a free journal skin lol. Just to explain why there's a psycho up top there.

So yeah, they're convinced my blood is more "potent" than most peoples. Yay. But they were saying it like it's great for ME. What about the people it's gonna help? That's why I did it. People can be annoying sometimes.

So anyway, I don't know if I've mentioned this before on DA but I'm a fighter. A darn good one. So good that anyone I've ever fought never wants to fight me again... enough said on that. But having the official title of Homo-Superior does make more sense in respect to my agility, endurance and power in the ring. My lung capacity is higher than normal and my blood clots at an excelerated rate. Maybe I should be doing some other profession than just a desk job lol.

And on to my designs for the Game X mascot. My pitch was successful as y'all know already, and tomorrow I'm having an official meeting with the owner in regards to signing the designs over to the company... and my pay cheque! Woo!

As annoying as my life is at the moment, it has it's ups as well as downs

so yeah, I take my first batch of concept sketches to Darren (the manager/part-owner) on Monday for inspection. I've already asked about what he wanted and I've incorporated it into my design as best I could. So fingers crossed everyone that it's what he's after.

Next stage after any more revesions I'm asked to make is to color this badboy. I'll need to involve the guys at Game X Fitness alot in that stage cos it's all about keeping the client (and in this case, my friends) happy.

Getting work as an artist is satisfying beyond words

EDIT: Umm also, can any of my watchers and friends please offer advice on whether or not I can post my concepts up on here before this deal is finished? or would that be illegal because I'm doing this for a business?

I felt the need to mention this because I've been churning out some great pics that I'm really proud of and unfortunately they'll never see DA. Like an Angel/Thanagarian (depending on if you read comics or if you're religious, the iconography is basically the same) and a "Kung Fu Raccoon" that I did for someone else.

Anyway... I'm trying to cut down on my journals lately as I've done so many over the last month that I think you've all been ignoring me. and unfortunately that contest I tried to hold was a bust... no one entered... sad face

Oh well, doesn't matter, I suppose I should chosen an easier piece of linework anyway.

Hi all, there's a 3 month subscription for the person I choose as winner for this. First time I've done a comp on DA so here goes.

Recently

held a colouring competition for one of her pics (it may have been drawn by someone else... not sure sorry. So here's the deal. Go to the link at the bottom and download the pic. I want this taken to the next level! Now whether that means you just ink my pencils or maybe you'd even colour it. But what I really wanna see is someone paint this bad boy, either digitally or traditionally, take your pic.

But the winner will be decided not based on what they do with the image per say but by how much they stay true to my lines. After all, it's important for aspiring colour artists to use every cue they can from the pencils provided for lighting, etc.

We'll start with the artwork: ....wow.... lol I mean you think Jim Lee is good after only having seen pinups from him, but then you read one of his books and DAMN it just steps up another notch. the colours are great but as mostly a line artist myself I find myself in love with all of the small details he LEAVES OUT of his lines. It just looks amazing. If you've never read a comic that Jim Lee has worked on, go to your local comic store and pick something up. Preferably Batman or Superman. No Marvel...

Now onto the script/writing of this comic series. Frank Miller. He's famous for Sin City, 300 and of course The Dark Knight Returns. But this is not TDKR, it's supposed to be mainstream continuity. Frank should NEVER be put in charge of writing mainstream continuity for iconic characters. He just rips them to shreds. Which is why I'm thinking of this as a supplement more than a continuity based series. It could even be Miller's Batman from Earth 52 or whatever it is.

Also, I should remind everyone that my local comic store closed down recently. So how did I get comics? I FOUND A NEW ONE!!!

It's hidden through this little alleyway I stopped a mugging in yesterday and once you've gone through the door, it's 3 flights of very narrow stairs and then, drum roll please... I SAID drum roll please *taps desk with pencils* you're in comics book bliss! Seriously, they've got the largest range I've seen since I've been in Brisbane. Very shway

Anyway, I'm sure Marvel readers think the same about some of the lesser known DC characters like Dr. Polaris and Psycho-pirate... but still, their costumes are realistic and suggest their powers!

I've got this thing about designs, and them representing the powers of a given character. You may have noticed haha.

Anyway, I'm working on this fan comic that's based on

's fan fics of JLU. It's good practice for sequential work and using some of my favourite DC characters in a story that works for them. Much fun.

Also, I would really like it if you actually answered me this time people regarding commissions. I do them. You know I do. So how many of you would actually be interested.
You've seen me improve over the last year to a point at which I'm (and this might sound arrogant) on par with people like Marcio Takara (here on DA, look him up, he's good). So let me know if you'd be interested, or on the flipside, if you think I should stop bringing it up.

I just went out for half my lunchbreak to meet and potentially hit on someone from the gym that my trainer suggested I should talk to. "great" I thought excitedly "this could go well!"

so I rock up to the gym and see her and freak out. I chickened out and did a lap of the city block for god's sake! lol
So yeah, I can take 20 attackers head on and not even sweat but when it comes to amazing girls... completely different story. I turn into the cowardly lion.

Okay, well the purpose of this journal entry is to say this: I HATE THE NEW SUIT. or more to the point I hate drawing Dick Grayson in his Batsuit, because it's hard for me. It still looks like Bruce Wayne. Yes I'm drawing the gauntlets. Yes I've streamlined the utility belt... if it even still is a utility belt and not just a metallice strap to hold up his tights now. But for some reason I look at Batman, and that's what I see. BATMAN. Not Dick Grayson playing dress-up like he's supposed to be now.

Okay so I'm not sure if the Batman rogues gallery have figured out that there's a new Bat because I haven't been able to read the new Batman and Robin comics, but from the way the Batsuit has been mutated by the current artists it's fairly obvious to the readers at least that it's someone new in the suit. The whole idea of Dick taking on the mantle in the story at the very least was to make Joker, Scarecrow, Croc and all the the other loveable villains in Gotham think that Batman was still alive. Not replaced. But still alive. has it worked, I have no idea.

So question time: Have any of you drawn Dick Grayson Batman? and if so; have you had to adjust the way you draw Bats to make it look right?

Also, sorry to the folks who are waiting to see stuff from me but I've been so freakin' busy lately with my martial arts training (5 days a week and practicing on my own on weekends) that I haven't had any real spare time outside of my commission work, which let's face it, is important if I wanna get more of it down the line. Just to let you know, spefically to Alex, I'm coloring it today and I'll have it up just as soon as I can, so don't die lol.

Ok, well in other news, I've f*cked up my left shoulder on Wednesday night so I had to have the day off work yesterday so the swelling could go down. I train with my sport TKD instructor in the basement area so we can have some peace and not have people distracting me by making Bruce Lee noises... Ugh.... anyway long story short I slipped on something and landed on my shoulder. The rest of my left side of my body followed shortly. So to the few people expecting stuff from me there may be a little bit of a delay. Sorry people

But yes: Arkham Asylum - GET IT NOW! That's an order... and if you don't have an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 ummm... get one and then buy Arkham lol

Recently I've had a few of the RLSH come to me via email asking if I could give their costumes the Darkheart treatment. I thought they were joke emails until one of 'em actually called and asked me if that was still my email address lol. So I've taken on a few commissions to redesign these guys' costumes.

Personally I am proud to be helping them out in whatever way I can. I'm a supporter of the RLSH and even came close to being one of them about a year ago before my injury stopped me (maybe for the better though).

I'm wondering what my fellow DA friends think of this though. Do you think these people should see mental help or do you, like me, think of what they're doing as noble and.. well.. awesome? haha. They're living everyone's fantasy, and they take alot of crap about it too from 99% of the populace, but they're still out there, every night, watching to try and keep the streets safe.

But yes, if you were wondering, I've already asked these guys if they'd mind me posting the concepts on here and they have absolutely no problem with it. You'll be seeing them as part of a collection in my gallery in about 2-3 weeks time.

Now to go back to that question. Do think I should have declined the job? Do you think I'm doing a good thing? or do you think the world is a better OR worse place because these crime-fighters are out on our streets fighting for truth, justice and peace?

I seriously am impressed with my personal trainer Ali (not sure if I've spelled it right but it's a guy lol) He's recently had a knee reconstruction so he can't demonstrate what he wants me to do, but he certainly can explain it to the last detail in like half the words it'd take me... again, wow. He's got skills. Represents Australia in Tae Kwon Do.

Impressed much?... yes I am. he's awesome and I get to train with him twice a week between my Rhee Tae Kwon Do training sessions. The future looks bright again lol. Also someone else from the Gym I go to was watching me (he actually asked Ali if he could) and walked up and shaked my hand at the end, letting me know he was very impressed.

I like my gym, cool people and state of the art equipment. Yay fitness!

That's right folks I found out about this deal through a mixture of dum-luck followed by detective work and led a small team of securit guards (I know.. LAME!!! XD ) to pull off the bust. I am so proud of myself for this. It's as close to being Batman as I'll ever get hahaha.

My style is evolving, taking in influences from what I'm exposing myself to, which lately, as previously mentioned, is JLU and Batman Beyond. I don't know, I'm 20 years old so I guess I have alot of options.

Anyway I've started work on my strip which will be on DA for (at least) six months before I move it over to my site and work from there. DA is where alot of my stuff has premiered so I wont abandon this loveable site even if mine is by some miracle a success lol.

Now I wear as basically the only bit of comic book merchandise I own a Phantom ring.

There was a junkie on the carriage I got onto. He was the "spandex". He saw the ring. He ran for his life... straight into a pole XDDD God it was effing funny. I might have to start scaring people while they're shooting up more often LOL.

Anyway, I also found out that the chicks dig RLSH XDDD I was mistaken for one of 'em and was swarmed by girls (ok there were only 3 of them lol) asking what I do to keep in such good shape and what martial arts I do and stuff like that lmfao.

Latest project: I'm coming up with some templates to help with my costume designs and stuff.. but being me every time i draw a decent base body shape I draw in details during the inking stage and mess it all up. It's getting old fast.

Went out for dinner tonight with some family. Italian food.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against italian (food or language or people either) but it woulda helped if their menus were in english lol. I wound up ordering a lamb dish.. it took an hour before I got it and when I did it was tough.. lamb is not supposed to be tough.
anyway, not going there again, but since barely any of you are in australia let alone brisbane I wont bother flaming the restraunt.

I'm starting to realise that I've been falling out of touch with a few of my friends recently. It's a real bummer cos I have so few to begin with. Mikey (none of you know who he is, I'm aware of this) has been there since I was a kid. he's like my main man and I could move away to I dunno.. russia and he'd still be cool with me.. he'd probably follow me lol. But there are a few others who really have not kept up well over the last few months. So people here's a message for you all, keep your friends close and where you can see them, or you might lose them.

Ok well I'm gonna go back to that template thing again and try not to mess it up this time.

Ok so, Anime. That stuff that's on at 6:30am while I'm getting ready for work and haven't had time to watch since I was 17. it's some crazy sh*t lol.

I love using an anime influenced style because it's really hard to screw it up and it's a deviation from my usual works,hence I posted that Bardock pic and revealed that I like DBZ lol.

but yes, Anime is freakin' insane hahaha. Some of it is really well composed and scripted, and the art is fantastic. Other stuff is just so flippin' stupid you can't help but love it XDD

So My new question is what is your favourite anime from your childhood or even at the present point in your life.. or alternatively explain why you hate those giant eyed freaks XDDD

I want to start by expressing my grievences about Janise's having to leave the DA community. It's a sad loss.

Now on to the topic of this journal. You would have noticed that I haven't put any traditional work up for 2 or 3 weeks. That's because I haven't actually done any.
I've been spending alot of my art time to learn painter 4 and get used to my tablet.

So here it is, I know I don't exactly suck with it, but how am I with the tablet in the grand scheme of things? I've displayed several different digital painting styles and used my comic art style in my latest Nighthaunter pic. I would like to know if it's just mediocre or if I'm doing alright.

there's only what? 18 episodes? BAH!

In these few episodes we do not get to see Sylar use his powers ONCE. not even once. and please no one mention that stupid wanna be cliffhanger season finale piece with the spaghetti can.

Ok so it has it's cool moments, like the whole Adam Monroe/Takezo Kensei thing, and Alejahndro and Maya brought something to table.. but taking away their powers was the lamest thing they coulda come up with. I'll admit I enjoyed season 2, but it didn't live up to season 1 and it was WAY too short.

In closing, Season 3 had better be worth the cash.

I just got back from Graphic-action (the biggest comic store in Newcastle) with over $120 worth of DC comics, including 2 or 3 of the best stories ever told series. I am pleased.

I found my ring also. It's a skull ring like the one from the Billy Zane movie The Phantom. It's exact. Made from the same mold. solid pewter. BOOYAH! lol

It's awesome.

Anyway, I bought battle for the cowl part 3 along with the other comics. haven't had a chance to read it yet but I bought the alternate cover issue that's a cross section of Jason Todd and his batsuit. It looks every cool.

I've also got Wolverine vs The Hulk, Smallville season 2 and Heroes season 1. Yay

Just writin' to say I might not submit anyting new for the next week and a bit. I'm on holiday catching up with a few old friends and with my relatives.

I turn 20yo next Saturday and shortly after that I'll get my tablet. More digital art will come after I've got that.

Anyway, still workin on those apology pieces so they MIGHT be up soon. just might be if I can get to a scanner.

Oh and yeah, in NSW I can wear my infamous full length leater coat. I love this thing.

Might post some pics so you can see just how awesome it is. At the wedding I just came from, some random drunk guy kept saying stuff like "that's an awesome coat. It's the real deal. dude, y'know how awesome that coat is?" XDDD he was funny. His wife had to drag him away.

And yeah other than that one event, my time here has been abysmal. Seriously, that wedding went for 10hrs and I got some frustrating news when I got onto MSN. Life's full of disappointments but tere is th occasional thing to look forward to.. like a tablet! XD

I also like the fact that it actually explains Diana's origin and the fact that Bruce Timm made it true to the comics and had Ares in it instead of Hades. I never did get why they changed that in the DCAU.

The movie seems to have just the right amount of action and gore mixed with story-telling that makes it cool.

So yeah, thumbs up to the movie

Now on to my current "apology pieces" which aren't really apologies anymore cos let's face it. I'm an incredibly proud guy so I do apologise but I 'aint gonna dwell on it.

Mkay. I've finished the lines for the wonder woman for Janise, but without my sharpie I can't do much with her hair that wouldn't risk destroying my lines, so I may have to wait til I colour it to fill that in, which will mean no WIP posted.

Alex's Griffon pic is finished but I'm going to redo it because I just love the character and I don't feel right with how I did this one. Maybe draw her in her old outfit because it's sorta retro and I still prefer it to my own design haha.

And

's OC, I haven't been able to decide a direction to take with it. I've decided on the character but I have to be careful because this isn't a redesign. This is a test for me to stick to the rules of a character. the groundwork already laid down in a character's core. Might seem lame but you'll understand when it's finished.

I want to make it clear these rants were just that. Rants.

I didn't mean to make a personal attack on her, it's just the way it came out. And you know that feeling you get when you've typed an email for example and then click send, then all of a sudden you know you shouldn't have and it's gonna bite you in the arse later on? Well that's what's happened here.

Those thoughts and feelings in the journal entitles RACHAEL!!! are outdated. And Rach if you don't believe me then I'll just have to keep trying to make up for it. I have genuine feelings for you and you know that, or at least I hope you do.

Now ok, for everyone that bothers to have read this far, here's the deal: effective immediately I am canceling all future personal journal entries. All that will feature in my journals from now on is news about the progress of my artworks and my thoughts on certain comics and artists.

I am truly sick of having to justify something I did so long ago that I'd forgotten about it so yeah, playing it safe.

I got partially soaked on my way to work cos it's raining very hard and I'm not in the best mood because I was woken up at 3:45am by a couple of texts that to be honest I didn't actually read until about 7:30am because I could read them at that time in the morning.

but in conclusion, this whole thing has been blown out of proportion and while I'm not saying that I'm not at fault in all of this seeing as how I typed it up in the first place, the information and opinions in that journal entry are biased and tempered by the funk I was in after a death in the family. I don't use that excuse very often anymore because it has been long enough that I should try to keep more of a level head. But back then that was the cause.

oh an P.S. I never actually said she cheated on me, when I used the word "unfaithful" I didn't mean it as it was taken. She left me for other guys with not so much as a reason (in my opinion so please don't anyone jump down my throat about that EITHER) and that's all I meant by it. That she had thoughts about other guys while she was with me.

Umm, I spose I should also point out that yes I did offer a friend of mine a stay in my currenct residence or in a hotel room, but nothing ever came of it and I wasn't aiming to get into anyone's pants.

Well I'm extrememly happy that she's come back to me again. I always feel however corny this is gonna sound, complete when she's with me. And when I'm happy, my art is always so much more creative and detailed. I rely less on cover everything in shadows. As you'll see with this Nite Owl pic I've done

Also, I'm starting to go all Watchmen obsessed again. Not sure what set it off again but meh. I think I might do my versions of all the movie characters for something to do.

I'll upload it when i get the chance. it's another one that I've done in pencil so it prob wont scan well but meah. The only thing I don't like about what I've done with it is I shadowed the goggles and only left highlights. the highlights I tried to make a bright orange but for some reason (prob cos of my inking) the lenses now look red. So he LOOKS LIKE FREAKIN' OWLMAN! once again, meh. XD

First time I'd drawnthe character but you'll be glad to know he looks like my redesign style so that has to be a plus.

Anyway, just wanted to say I've drawn something for the first time in almost a week. Whoo!
