if you are looking for an alternative to photoshop or havent had the time to get photoshop yet, pimp 2.2 is a free and wonderful alternative. for freeware, it is extremely robust with everything you need to do basic adjustments and up to complex manipulations.

[link]

you will probably need the gtk+2 runtime environment, the actual pimp 2.2 setup, and the help file.

in total it's all under 20mb, so it wont take long to download.

ill still be a photoshop fan, but i think ill see if i can make a decent manipulation purely with gimp.

pimp yo gimp!

it's a forum i go to. interesting threads, and debates there.

im inviting anyone interested, but beware. ill will start my disclaimer and intro now lol:

1) it's 99% english so no worries about language

2) it has a large dosage of topics on current affairs in vn, economics, politics, and history

3) i hang around the history threads along with art, music, and im a general nutcase with a pinch of coic relief. there is one more person actively posting on that forum from devart also that i know of. her name ryhmes with boogeronnet.

4) it's a friendly place, but sometimes a flame war erupts and idiots will reveal themselves, but i guess that happens everywhere on forums.

6) it's a small forum of dedicated posters, so it's not super saturated like soompi, but not dead either.

5) there is a lack of art topics and just fun topics to relax and chat about, so i need more people artistically inclined to help me take over the forum lol.

come visit, say hi, and try it out if you like. if you dont like, then we will always still be here on deviantart.

oh yeah, tell everyone there that i am a nice guy ok?

and, even though i post like a retard, im really not retarded ok?

yeah so i just got my hands on this program called corel painter ix

ive used photoshop for a very long time now and never bothered with the competition cause adobe just is the bomb. but painter caught my attention because it isnt in the same boat as ps. it's a program made to mimic as close as possible to real life tradition medium. sound cool eh? yeah well it took 9 versions to get my attention so im kinda slow brained on this one. photoshop is a photo-editor. while painter is a digital painting program. it is now a fav program of mine, but i havent discovered it much.

i really like how you have a virtual palette where you smudge ink colors around like you would real life. you like the brushes in photoshop? well painter has a more advanced brush engine in some respects and is really cool.

also im working in adobe after effects right now and dang !!! - is motion ever o so much harder than static print work.

no worries, got my tunes and mp3s to accompany me.

but nope, it was excellent. sg films i really enjoy cause of their meaningful stories for all generations, yet they have the adventure that keeps you coming back for more. not to mention the kick buttox musical scores by joe hisashi

this never bothered me before, but i noticed it does bother some people as i browsed some forums.

it's the lack of variation in viet last names, like having nguyen, tran, le for the majority of viet people. some dont know why, and some even get picked on for having the same last name as so many others. in some cases, there are individuals that totally despise their last name just because it is so common.

well some background info (just copied my forum post):
_______________________________
hating your own culture, makes your very ignorant, especially if there is meaning to why we have common last names. the names bind us to the great dynasties of viet nam, so that their presence can always be remembered. if you recognize that the nguyen, le, and tran names are names of kings, then perhaps you would think different. how many cultures on the earth have meaning in their last name linked with royalty as a symbol?

the common name unites us.

you should also notice that the vietnamese structuring of names has a prominent middle tag. ex: nguyen dinh toan. unlike the western culture where the middle name is almost unimportant, in vietnamese it is there. that is the unique portion of our names if you want difference. if you knew a little bit of history, that middle name is infact our family tag. notice how it's transfered to children from the father to the sons, and the mother to the daughters. we have both - a clan tag to link us with dynastic times, and a middle name that is extremely varied. our naming system is different, so dont use the western methods to judge it.

next time, don't just say your name in two parts, pronounce it fully in the tryptch it was designed as and explain to your friends how you have both a multitude of names in vietnamse and a common link to kings.
________________________________

so there you have it, the answer to why we have common last names. our last name has different significance than western last names. so dont be ashamed, but take pride.

later.

this place is a nice site for viet news in english. i visit there often along with the vietnamese sites too. check it out

in other news, Hong Nhung has a new albums out, Khu Vuon Yen Tinh. anyone sampled it yet? im really looking forward to listening to this.

currently listening to:

Ngoc Ha - Doi Cho

one of my all time favorite songs ever. the mixing is very exotic with traditional and modern instruments. the imagery is so strong and la~ng ma.ng. ngoc ha has a superb voice and her skills are truly amazing. the lyrics are very awesomely artistic to the max yeah!

Do As Infinity - For The Future

can't ever go wrong with dai. tomiko has a ultra unique voice. and ryo is one ultra guitarist. dai himself pumps great melodies non stop. in the scene of jpop, there are too many high pitched ayumi copies i think, dai gives a fresh sound i enjoy.

Escape - Starik99

this song is free, but it was originally made in a program called reason 2.5. ive converted it to mp3.

if you have reason, get it here
[link]

if not, maybe ill post up the mp3 some day on my super fast dialup kekekekeke. really nice tune this one.

Tinman - You're A Dreamer

an older song, really like the bass and deep drum in this, but the one i have clips on the audio levels. anyone by chance have a clean version?

Endre - I Kill For You

released at the very end of 2004, it became one of the top trance songs instantly. coming from anjuna beats productions, it is high quality for the ears for sure. i just love melodic trance. ive got the enigma t cut version.

as for the wireless. i have a wireless mouse - but it died. so i thought i was screwed, but no. it was my reciever cable. i had a twist tie holding it neat, which apparently disrupted the signal flow in the cable. i removed it and shabang! im ok. so tip is dont use metallic twist ties around your cables!
