Ever notice when there's a perfect picture to be taken, you never have your camera? There are a lot of those moments lately, especially now that the sun's a constant friend, the humidity's back on in Georgia, and the wildlife is active. I saw a tiny ladybug tucked into a new leaf on a flowering weed, but I didn't have my camera - I was turning out horses for the night, which is usually not a time conducive to photo-capture.
***If you have any tips on manual settings of a camera, specifically a Kodak DSLR, I'd love to hear them.

Also, I've tentatively started writing again, mostly on the Riddick fiction... and of course, I got a whim to start drawing. I've been collecting refs (you can see them in my favorites under "Refs") but haven't started anything yet. If I use your photos as ref or stock, be assured, I will ask before publishing it.

But, after watching all three books of ATLA, I was drawn into the desire to write again. I wanted to write ATLA something. But really, I didn't have a muse or a vision - I just wanted to up and write ATLA. (A MS, fanficcy, rabid preteen fangirl urge that has since withdrawn, thankfully.) I searched for decent fiction, to little avail, and can't seem to find any real life depictions of ATLA characters (still searching). Instead, I wrote on things I started already. My Riddick 'verse fic is on chapter 12 now; the Gundam story, in its fifth incarnation since highschool, is almost to chapter 4 (the plot's a little wobbly there, still). A couple of original stories, not posted much of anywhere, got new chapter additions.

I feel refreshed, and pleased. A nice contrast to the last-semester stress that will blessedly be over after this final at 1430 today.

These last two weeks have been crazybusy and will only get worse. Last test for accounting due tomorrow, final on Thursday afternoon, birthday get-together for a girl at the dojo Friday (happy 21!), rearrange my feng shui this weekend... graduate next Friday. And then go home for a week. Geeeeez. I mean, it's not Kate's week...

In other news, I've been sucked into Avatar big time. I'd seen it before, but this time was different. Yes, I was one of those crazy people that watched the entire series over Thanksgiving weekend. I wish I could find/commish some sketches of what the main characters would look like in a real life version, but a) I have all of $2 in my bank account atm, and b) the folks I know and love for their art (and other reasons) would likely bash me over the head for asking because of the whole fandom thing. Bah. I found a few good looking refs yesterday on dA, but nothing like what I was looking for. I'll keep searching.

Other than that... nothing. Such is my life: horses, work, class, martial arts... repeat.

This morning at 0530, it sounded like it was raining really hard. But that's the impression you get when you live under a tin roof, I suppose. I got up to do horses and it was just raining. Not hard, not drizzling, just an easy, much-needed soaking.

It made me very happy.

There's only two of us living there atm, leaving a hole for the time being, and I really need the money until I can find a job that pays better.

It stormed like a mofo last night. I was at a friend's birthday party (sweet 16!) when it came back around, and we were all standing on the porch when lightning hit about 20 yards from the house. I thought people were gonna jump out of their skins and into the porch roof. A little cousin of my friend's got so scared she bawled for 20 minutes. It was storming when I went to bed last night (and probably when I went to sleep, too, which was quite some time later).

This morning, I was doing the outside shift as I'm scheduled to do, and I got to see the sunrise sky at quarter of seven while I was turning in horses from their paddocks. The sky was pink and blue and lavender, coloring the altocumulus and cirrocumulus that dotted the horizon. When the sun finally decided it was time to get up, the horizon exploded in goldenrod and tangerine behind the treeline.

I welcomed the cleansed world with open arms, and thanked God for his works. But if only I'd had a camera with me.

I haven't been very... vocal. Not much for me to be vocal about, now is there? I haven't taken any photos worth showing since January (not that those count), barring foodie photos that can be seen on my foodie blog. I don't draw, and I don't have any stories I feel like particularly sharing with the world while in progress.

On the subject of photos, I might have some to share when I get back to Georgia. (I really, really, really do NOT want to go back. I'm not kidding.) I'm working on getting together a collection of photos from home so I'll have something to keep me relatively sane in the year or so that it's going to take me to graduate, set up a job and a place to live and whatnot and see what UK's extension programs can do for me.

I'm getting extensively sick of my Kodak C875. I'm thinking that a Canon PowerShot might be my next endeavor. My stepmother has an A610, and she takes lovely photos with hers. It also seems to be a little more durable than my Kodak, which is convinced that EVERY battery I put in it is low charge, whether fresh off the charger or out of the package. I would love to run down to RadioShack or Wal-Mart right now and buy one, but I'm too damned responsible to allow myself to do that. Not only do I not need to spend the cash (though I do have it, for once), the electronics morons at Wal-Mart are just that, and I'm still a little mad at RadioShack for gypping me out of my 2GB SD card when I bought the Kodak.

It might also help if I KNEW anything about digicams. I'm pretty much fail at those, for some reason.

I'm still retardedly proud of myself for finishing the first revised chapter of my old Gundam story. Part of me finds it mildly entertaining/disturbing that despite the fact that I haven't watched it in several years, I'm still centered on it (in some part of my brain). Now, if only I could get back to the Riddick fic... or the novel!
