"It's not the fault of the student if he/she fails, because the year has an only 365 days.
Typical academic year for a student:
-52 Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays in a year, which are rest days. 313 days left.
-50 days of summer holiday when the weather is very hot, and it becomes difficult for the brain to function or study. 263 days left.
-8 hours daily sleep means 122 days. 141 days left.
-1 hour for daily playing (good for health) means 15 days. 126 days left.
-2 hours daily for food and other delicacies (chew properly!) means 30 days. 96 days left.
-1 hour for talking (man is a social animal) means 15 days. 81 days left.
-At least 35 days per year are set aside for taking exams. 46 days left.
-Quarterly, half-yearly, and other holidays take up 40 days. 6 days left.
-For sickness allow for at least 3 days. 3 days left.
-Movies and functions at least 2 days. 1 day left.
That one day is your birthday.

The cold is playful. At first it comes with little nicks and love-bites, pinching toes, tickling cheeks, and teasing reddening ear-tips, testing the thickness of the down in your jacket, your cashmere sweaters and scarves. Every time you breathe out, the cold appears before you, ethereal and white, and then you breathe it in, bring the coldness into yourself. Now the cold comes in a little deeper, passing through the scarves, the gloves, the layers of clothing, making you a little numb. You shudder, and wrap your things closer, your heart beating the liquid furnace into the places where cold had taken hold. The cold withdraws a little, then, but comes again with the icy wind, blasting through to your bones. They tingle, and numb themselves, and your skin finds that the cold has a tiger’s tongue. The smooth comfort lick of a cold floor in the summer has turned into a rough, rasping touch that can wipe the paint off a house.

The cold has you now. It’s inside and all around, and makes you like itself, wraps around you, taking over.

But then you arrive, and walk into a door. You forsake the cold for the embrace of its sister, heat, who unknots the cold’s filigree ice-tangles, slowly, carefully, wrapping around. The biting cold has made you its fragile art, on the verge of splintering, and the heat melts the edges, back to yourself. Your feet are your own once more, and your cheeks, fingers, ears, and bones. No longer a numb mind with a claimed body, you are restored, and you walk on.

Last week I dreamt that I was getting home from school, and a quiet, white fog obscured the sky and made everything clean and new. Untainted.
For some reason, there were a lot of trees and other vegetation to either side of the asphalt road, and there were no other signs of life in sight. There was only the wet blackness of the road, the gentle green of the trees, and the white vagueness of the vapors.
I think I was lost. I ventured onto a slightly uphill road, and found, to my dismay, that it was totally blocked by downed tree limbs and leaves, trailing tangled vines between which nested the ubiquitous fog.
I turned around and retraced my steps, but, for some reason that is only relevant in dreams, turned back, probably because the blocked path was the only way.
The fallen vegetation was still there. Frustrated, I again turn back to the main road.

What frustrated me when I woke up was WHY I didn't just push the branches out of my way and walk onward. Just talking about it now still bugs and irritates me to no damn end.

I guess I was too lazy, cowed by how congested the asphalt road looked. I think I defeated myself before the outer obstacle had defeated me.

From [link]

IS THERE A SANTA CLAUS?

1) No known species of reindeer can fly. But there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not completely rule out flying reindeer only Santa has ever seen.

2) There are two billion children in the world. But since Santa doesn't (appear) to handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist children. This reduces the workload down to 15% of the total--378 million according to the national population reference bureau. At an average (consensus) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes. One presumes that there's at least one good child in each.

3) Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the Earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 822.6 visits per second. This is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/11000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat what ever snacks have been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh, and move on to the next house. Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false, but for the purposes of our calculations we will accept), we are know talking about .78 miles per household, a trip of 75.5 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us have to do at least once every 31 hours, plus feeding and the like. This means that Santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3000 times the speed of sound. For the purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle on earth, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a pokey 27.4 miles per second--a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour.

4) The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium sized Lego set (2 lbs.), the sleigh is carrying 321,000 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as being overweight. On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that "flying reindeer" could pull TEN TIMES the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine. We need 214,000 reindeer. This increases the payload-not even counting the weight of the sleigh--to 353,430 tons. Again for comparison: the average blue whale weighs in at a feather-light 150 tons.

5) 353,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance--this will heat the reindeer up in the same way as when a space craft is reentering the earth's atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3 Quintillion joules of energy per second EACH. In short, they will burst into flames almost instantaneously (sorry, Rudolph), exposing each of the reindeer behind them, and creating deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second. Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity. A 250 pound Santa (which seems ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 43,155,015 pounds of force.

6) There is another factor which involves the specifications of the reindeer. Considering that the average roof of a house could hold perhaps 3 tons max, the 353,430 ton sleigh and reindeer would collapse the roof. As a guess, let's say that each of the reindeer are three yards long, the distance between them be two more yards, and the sleigh be ten yards long. If all of these were to be true, the entire reindeer team would be 611 miles long. Assuming the storage area for presents in the sleigh was ten yards by ten yards (which seems to be very big when compared to traditional images of Santa), the 378 million Lego sets (approximate dimensions: 8 inches, 6 inches, 3 inches) (that is, one present per child, without stocking stuffers) would take up a volume of 1,512,000,000 cubic yards. At this length, the sleigh would have to be made many miles long.

In conclusion, if Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he's dead now.
