Summer is so boring. But I sure wouldn't rather go back to school...

Lately I've been trying, and I mean really trying to revive whatever little poetic skill I actually have. It's not working well. I've written 5 poems in the last week and none of them are any good. I just don't think I'm putting enough effort into it.

But eventually I will succeed!

I also need to take my camera out on the town. I haven't done any outdoor shots in forever.

Yup, just blabbering on.

I'm also trying to read more. I picked up some books the other day.
I'm taking a composition class this semester at college and I just finished my first (real) composition! I'm so excited! It's a relatively short and simple piece, but it took a lot of effort so I really understand what composers and musicians go through to write what we hear every day.

And my professor is happy with it, so I've confirmed that Composition is where I should take my university studies. I'd been nervous for some time that even though I want to compose, that I wouldn't have the talent or creativity for it, but that isn't an issue at all.

One step closer to my dreams coming true.

Happy new year everyone!

My new year will bring some new changes. I will most likely be moving out of my mother's house within the next two months. It all depends on whether I get the job I want. I will be moving into my best friend's house.

My other project this winter is to snap a whole lot of pictures of the farms and ranches and open desert in between my old town and my new one. I don't hate learning things.

I have an inexplicable D in Music Theory....I turned in all the homework, all of it on time, got decent grades on them.....got good grades on all but one of the tests.....so why a D? I don't know. A fucked up computer system I guess.... but yeah anyway I am panicking because I don't want to retake it. I already have to retake its companion, Aural Perception, this summer. But I didn't put any effort into that class, so, I don't really care. xD
Either way I guess it's not the end of the world...

My GSA put on a day of silence event this week...the main part of it was an open mic with poetry readings and songs about bullying/hate crimes/ etc. I wrote and read a poem but I didn't think it was good enough quality to submit here. And it's basically plagiarism, because it's a mashup of quotes from "true stories of bullying" that I found on the internet. Except it's not really plagiarism because I'm not claiming them as my own words....but still. Not enough original content.

I was also the official event photographer, and let me tell you, I really need lots of practice with photographing people. I'm so used to taking macro closeups of things that don't move, but to have to take pictures at a distance of fast moving people in auto mode in unpredictable, uncontrollable lighting conditions...ugh. Most of them were washed out in the bright Arizona sun beyond what GIMP could correct. Blurry faces, horrible composition (because of the distance from the subject that I'm not used to)....yikes. So I don't think you'll be seeing any people pictures from me anytime soon.

I was also voted in as Secretary of that club recently for next semester. Oh yes, this means even more time away from doing art. x_x But totally worth it, I assure you. More responsibility is what I need.

So that's what I've been doing in lieu of posting pretty pictures. There will be some in the near future, I promise.

It's smashed.

My beautful, glorious, and quite decrepit Strohber piano (circa 1920's?) is now sitting in a large number of pieces in a dumpster in Minnesota.
My dad had tried to sell it, he put advertisements everywhere, but surprsingly when it comes to antiques, as we have learned, pianos are not valuable at all. (Unless they're like, solid ivory.) My mom herself admitted that she paid $100 for it.
But Dad couldn't take it anywhere. He's moving out of the house it was stationed in and the new tenants didn't want it, so, what else is there to do?

How could anyone do such a thing, though? Instruments are like people. Especially old ones. They have some unknown story that you can only make wild guesses about. You get to know and love their out-of-tune, tinny sound and become attached. That piano helped teach me how to read and transcribe music, let alone provided me with days of entertainment in my quite empty teenage years. It's part of my life.

Sorry. My social life sort of exploded on me lately. It has a habit of doing that. But I should be catching up around here quite soon as I am currently under house arrest. (How does one get grounded at the age of 20? Try not coming home for three whole days and not calling your Mom about it. At all. She filed a Missing report with the police!)

So yeah. I have been trying to write some poetry (and believe me, I have quite a lot to write poetry about ) but so far I haven't been successful. I'm trying to get myself out of a stylistic rut and try something new....

For the return of photography! O_O

I do have some film to develop from Sedona, this is true, but what I meant was that I am getting a new camera! For my birthday and Christmas my parents agreed to go halfsies with me on a new one....since I wouldn't settle for something that $300 or less would buy.

Originally I didn't find anything that blasted my old Olympus out of the water, so I wanted to see if that was fixable. Insert a 28-mile trek to downtown Phoenix, which has the NEAREST camera repair place. They told me that since the camera is a 2005 or older model that the cost to repair it was greater than its much-depreciated value.

So...after hours of research and comparison I decided on the $549 Fujifilm Finepix S9100. Camera technology is awesome: I'm getting a better camera for pretty much the same price as the old one. It looks like this:

link

It should arrive in a week or less. And then the experiments shall begin.

I turn 20 on Sunday. I feel like I'm turning 45....not sure why, it's just hard to believe I'm still such a young person. I feel like I've lived forever...

But this is important because; A.) I am getting my camera fixed (if that's even possible) or B.) I am getting a new one for said birthday. I saw one today that takes nearly the same macro-quality shots as the old one: for $200 less! Cameras these days....who ever heard of TWELVE megapixels?! My very first cam had 3. O_o;

I have otherwise had no time for art. I have been preoccupied with a new group of friends, and homework as usual.

I do have some film to develop, though. I will probably finish it out on a trip to Sedona this weekend.

Schooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

I'm starting (well, really, continuing) the music theory this semester. Music has always been the art form that I have loved the most, so no one has any idea of how amazing it will be for me to finally be able to (correctly) WRITE it. Not even I know. But I will soon find out.

Camera is still broken. With college expenses, I just don't have the money to fix it or buy something else. (I stupidly sent my Concord to my Dad because he didn't have a camera...thinking I would never use it again...) My only option until then is a dinosaur 35mm. Which probably has no macro focus...don't know, I haven't even tried. I fear film cameras. xD

But now that my managers forced me to quit my job ("it's not worth it to us to only employ you for sixteen hours a week!"), I have more time to draw and all that.

I have the worst luck with cameras. Mine always manages to get dropped in the sand on the beach or get ocean water on it or some other scary thing. Cameras can be pretty durable things, though, even durable enough to survive getting run over by a 3,000-pound camping trailer.

...Yeah, we went camping this weekend. I put the camera on the floor by my feet, and the sneaky little thing slipped out from the truck when I got out at a gas station on the way back. Nobody noticed it until we had already squashed it and almost pulled out of the parking lot. "Hey, somebody left their...purse or something out there..."

But I was -so- lucky. The wheel just rolled over one side of it, and thus the lens and all the insides are fine. Even my memory card is intact, despite that being where the damage was. But the frame is all messed up so I can't put the door back on, so I can't take, OR upload, pictures because all the camera does is bitch at me to close the memory card door.

I sure hope it can get fixed easily enough. I sure as hell don't have the money to buy a new one.
