I have decided to use some of the new features as a subscriber and change my gallery around.

Any suggestions are most welcome. Are the categories sensible, would you like to see more, less or different categories, etc?

I am getting some ideas from your Gallery designs, and will attempt to build a good CSS style that fits.

Lens Purchase

On a more exciting note, I have decided to get myself the 70-200mm L IS USM with 2x extender. Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous journal, and all your valuable advice.

Like many, many photographers before me, and those that will surely follow, the age-old questions arise when looking to procure new glass. I enjoy taking landscapes and wildlife photos and a long focal length is important. I have a 18-55mm lens that came with my Canon 400D, and my 75-300mm which came with my EOS 600. The 75-300 is about 18 yrs old now, and slow as a great big bag of slow things .

I like the look of the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS. This is certainly fast enough, and can extend to 400mm f5.6 easily, which will still give me razor sharp images. But then, I hear a 300mm F4 prime is better / sharper.

There are a number of reviews on these lenses, all of them very good too. Perhaps the best bet is to borrow a couple of lenses and shoot them myself and compare the results on the 400D.

Wondering what experiences fellow Deviants have had in this regard.

First day back at work after a wet, washed out and dismal 2 week break It was difficult getting back into the swing, hopefully will get a little easier tomorrow. It was pretty humid today too, what with all the rain we had over the past couple of weeks.

As a result of the weather, a dose of both Cabin Fever and the flu , I did not manage to take many photo's over my break. Ah well, such is life.

Anyway, I have the Dream Theater concert to look forward to on Feb 1st. Sooo excited. Can't wait to see them live, its going to be awesome. Best band ... ever.

One of my new year resolutions is to take my photography up to the next level. I will invest both time and money in developing my skills further.

Along with all the other resolutions which come around this time of year too, such as losing weight, getting fit, being kinder to people, being more focused at work, and generally trying to be a better father, husband, son, brother, friend ...
