I just completed giving deeper color to Creatures of the Marsh Grass. This was done with prismacolor on the original. I moved the previous uploaded image to scraps so anyone who faved it can keep it if they like. I'm very happy with the results of the deeper color, most of which was added to the background. And I am framing it today. They have a half off sale on gold metal frames at the local discount art supply store and they also sell UV glass for a very good price. I am going matless with this piece.

I am lining up a new place to live. I will have more space and a small yard! I will be moving the middle of July. I am very happy about this.

I have about 950 Cranes complete. I can finish up in just a day or two anytime and may wait until I move so that the 1000 Cranes will coincide with my new home. They are in a large glass cylinder by my front door to help bring in good energy.

I imagine now that I will never forget how to fold one!

I've been browsing artwork and have seen some wonderful things.
Almost done with the illuminated letter of 'A'. I am touching it up and will upload in a day or two.

I have close to 800 cranes complete and am aiming for 1000. I am cutting my own paper for most of them to get prettier cranes and more variety. Using gift wrap paper, scrapbooking paper as well as 6" origami paper which I cut into quarters as most my cranes are folded from 3" square paper. Also folding some from 2" and 1" square paper, the latter of course the hardest to fold but oh so cute. Mostly I love the Japanese handmade paper which has the most wonderful texture almost like cloth. Very expensive though so will have less than 200 cranes made from this.

Soon will start an illuminated letter 'B', then will probably move on to something different.

I had to scan it in six pieces as it is 20"x20" and some of the joins are less than perfect but it will have to do for now. To keep the file from being huge I used only 90dpi but later may do a higher resolution suitable for a print in which case I will have to figure out how to join it better. I used the layers function in PhotoStudio as I don't have a stitching program that is any good.

For now I only have the center portion of this piece uploaded (titled Serpents) which shows the detail better. Of course the tails of the serpents are missing! And once it was uploaded I see I did not crop it very evenly!! Later I will upload the full piece.

I continue working on a 1000 Crane origami project that I began about one month ago. I use mostly 3" square paper that I cut myself. Anything from 6" patterned origami paper cut in quarters to patterned papers that people use for scrapbooking; many nice patterns here and while the papers are not as thin as regular origami paper they work quite well for cranes. I also have gift wrap and handmade washi paper, the later of which I adore, though find expensive.

I have decided to give the cranes a home in glass containers. The largest measures 24" high and 7" wide. I guess 500 cranes will fit inside. I have about five other glass containers all a lot smaller and with various shapes from goldfish bowl to vase.

I use the fabric type finish washi paper and will keep these cranes separate in one of the smaller containers. If anyone does origami and hasn't tried this type of paper, treat yourself!! I found mine at an asian import store where they had a good variety of origami paper from 1000 crane kits (about $10 for 3") to the handmade washi which was $6 for 30 unique 3" squares. I plan to order more washi paper online to get bigger variety, though the price may not be much lower.

I don't have a digital camera, and I haven't used my old camera for many years, but maybe I will feel inspired to dig it out so I can post some photos here. I don't have a deadline so 1000 cranes will be folded just a few at a time likely finished by the new year, at the latest by next summer. I also am playing with other origami patterns, though I am not originating much.

Meanwhile 'Creatures of the Marsh Grass' continues to get some of my time, hope to have it up by the months end.

Just uploaded a tiny drawing, just 5" x 7" and was playing with how big it can be shown and still look half way decent. Then I realized everyone has their computer screen set to whatever resolution they want, so someone viewing at 800 x 600 is going to see a monster image compared to someone viewing at 1280" x 1024" or bigger. When I switched my resolution while online I would sometimes loose my scrollbars! So at least on my computer it isn't something I can casually change back and forth while surfing. Anyway, an online image is never the same as an original. Maybe I'll post a poll somewhere and ask what screen resolutions people are using.

What a time for my hard drive to crash! I am wanting to see everyone's letters tomorrow (for the Knotters Illuminated Letters contest) and respond to comments on my work and comment on others too. I've seen a few letters and love the differences in style. So if I can't get to things for a while it's because my computer is in transition. Fortunately a friend knows computers and collects parts so he may have a drive that I can use and he has helped me save stuff off the crashing drive already. So tomorrow he is going to work on things. Thankfully, I got Windows up today, but I could lose everything at any time, and things are slow and constantly freezing up.

So if I'm gone for awhile I'll be back. Hoping I don't have to get a new computer system.

By the way my newest piece looks after it was stitched (mysterious black around some of the edge) I may have to search out yet another stitch program. The one I found is free and works automatically, no lining up points at all, unfortunately you can't go in and do it manually if you want to. Most people use this stuff for photos (panoramic sorts of things) so wonder if that is what that mysterious black is around the four corners.

Discovered which manual setting to play with on the scanner to get the colors to come out right (at least on this piece). And this free stitch program doesn't blur the overlapped area like PhotoStudio so I will use it until I find something better.

I kind of like the watermark dA is offering now.

So glad to finish this piece, get it stitched decently and uploaded, and now I can move on to something else. I learned a lot doing this one and not sure what I'm doing next, only not nearly so elaborate.

Turns out the freeware watermarking program I downloaded hurts the quality of the artwork it is protecting. It fades and blurs it out a bit. So instead I put a small piece of art, a rodent, under the artwork being scanned. For now at least.

My scanner (and it is supposed to be a good one) will not give me the same colors in my artwork and it blurs things just a bit. I found that I had to turn off the auto adjustment and manually enter in for an underexposure and also add some sharpening. I played with color adjusting for about an hour and gave up. The last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer trying to get faithfull colors for my artwork. I'd rather be doing more artwork.

The colors are not way off, but I can tell and it frustrates me, but I think most people wouldn't notice and who knows might like the scanned colors better.

The slight blur is what really bothers me. I spend a lot of time on the detail and want it to show up clearly.

Hurts my brain to try to figure this stuff out, but hope I can learn more and get better quality uploads.

I decided to rescan everything and touch up at the same time as I wasn't real happy with most of the first scans.

PhotoStudio, which contains a stitch program, came with my scanner (hooray! justifys having bought more than I needed ((who knows what I may want to do in the future))). I rescanned and stitched 'Transformation', 8"x14", after changing the coloring on the top swirl. It took me 3 or 4 times to stitch it right, but at least now I know what I'm doing.
In another day or so I'll be uploading something different, a little animal I drew in 1994. I haven't done this type of work for awhile, but may begin again.
My scanner should arrive tomorrow. I went a little overboard on resolution but by checking the technical data this scanner should be better quality all around.

Also downloaded a demo stitch program so I can scan bigger pieces and stitch them together. They are watermarked by the program so I have to buy the real version to actually use it, but I played with it enough to see it should work well. Seeing as my finances are pretty well shot, I will first look for a free stitch program or maybe one will come in the software for my scanner.
