I'm honestly ready for December to end, for the new year to boot the old one out the door and for 2010's plans to start rolling.

Torn's 2010 schedule is awesome. I really can't wait for con time and I know the guys are excited too. =jaster0001 recently updated the site with a little Torn Universe game. It's a lot of fun and a nod to those side scrollers we all grew up on. Just click the "games" button on the Torn homepage. Cracker Ace (written by Jeff and drawn by ~yourbuddybuddy) also has 7 pages up for viewing now!

In dA news, I'm no longer working as part of the Copyright and Etiquette Administration. I've made the move back to being a fulltime helpdesk rep. You'll still see me answering policy related inquiries though and ferreting around the other portions. For those of ya who haven't contacted the help desk in a while we have an awesome new Costume Service Central! You can read about it here, written by $ewm.

We're also goin to hit our 100,000,000th deviation soon!

I got completely spoiled this year so instead of boring you guys with a list of what I got I'm posting thumbnails related to said goodies.

I'm exhausted!

I spent all of last week in LA with a large part of dA's staff and now, a couple days later, I'm still reeling from the awesome but incredibly long and eventful week. #hq has a few photos up from the shenanigans. I managed to stay out of the way of the cameras for the most part though.

It was really great getting to work along side everyone, learning and re-learning, taking part in meetings... and aiding in the devourment of the biggest freakin pizza I've ever seen. NOM!

One of the major things we all talked about was the changes being made to Community Operations and the Copyright and Etiquette Administration. You can read about the first baby steps in this huge change here in #communityops's blog.

Torn's first webcomic by =jaster0001 and I is finished! All ten pages are up for viewing on TornComics.com. The last page was crazy fun to work on. I don't think I've ever done anything that detailed before. It was definitely a page of many firsts for me. It feels great to have a finished comic. It's one that will be among many in our Tales from the Torn Universe book. Jeff actually wrote a journal recently that gives a quick breakdown of the books in progress right now here. So please give that a read if you're curious about what we have planned.

I'm away from my PC for the next week so I won't be able to update pages here on dA like I've been doing but they're up, and with letters, on our website right now! Three pages of our new webcomic "Cracker Ace" are also up!

I'm all tingly for Halloween shenanigans! A small part of me hopes my across the street neighbors could see into my backyard as I was bloodying up my costume last night. I can only imagine how alarming it looks at a distance when it was pretty disturbing up close. My hands and arms are already stained pink from the fake blood. Which, despite how hard I fuss about it, has become a bit of an annual tradition. Family tends to worry if I'm not covered in pink splotches for at least a couple of weeks after Halloween.

Torn Comics's webcomic section has been updating every day for the past two weeks with pages from our book Twist in the Night: A Horror Anthology. There are two short horror comics up now, with the very last page to be updated sometime this morning. I love both of these stories. They're on two different sides of the horror spectrum but they are both fantastic.

Less than Evil has been a joy to share with you guys. You've been incredibly supportive and I really can't thank you enough for it. There's so MUCH we've done and so little of it we can show you guys!

Hello pumpkins!

In celebratory fashion and honor of Torn's favorite day EVER we're throwing a Halloween contest! It's all about costumes. The idea is for entrants to design a child's Halloween costume based on one of three Torn Comics characters. We'd love to see this done in any medium, color or no color. Creativity is what it's all about!

The three characters you have to choose from are Mind Master, The Mechanic and Cracker Ace. Reference images of these three are posted at TornComics.com. Just follow the link on the main page titled "deviantART Costume Contest".

ENTRIES ARE DUE OCTOBER 25th!!!

Three finalists will be announced here on dA and at TornComics.com on October 30th. The grand prize winner will be announced at TornComics.com on October 31st.

PRIZES:

Grand Prize: A free copy of Twist in the Night: A Horror Anthology, an inked commission of a single character by the Torn artist of their choice (~yourbuddybuddy, =viper13 or me) and their winning piece displayed on TornComics.com.

I love October. The air is crisp, there's orange everywhere and Halloween is just around the corner. So, with the guys and I at Torn Comics being naturally in tune with our inner ghouls, two entire comics from Twist in the Night: A Horror Anthology are going to be shared over the next 23 days on TornComics.com. They'll be linked from the main page and in the webcomics section. The first one is "Still Born" by =jaster0001 and ~yourbuddybuddy and the second is "The Legend of Lloyd Colter" by Jeff and ~scottygod. Both of these stories are such great examples of the variety in this book. So Happy early Halloween, my fun-sized treats!

A huge bummer happened during the move. My long-time pet cat, Squeaker got out of the house while the movers were there. I couldn't find her. I'm still very crushed over it. She's not the type to not come running when I call her though so I'm hoping a good family found her and that she's currently shedding all over their couch. I still have Leonidas, who is happily getting to know his new house. I adopted a new orange and white cat and named her Colby (after Colby Jack cheese). She's a rescue-cat. Some awful people were trying to poison her. She's so sweet... can't imagine how anyone could be so hateful.

We've all seen it happen. Someone somewhere on dA is always trying to cheat the system to draw more attention to themselves. Favorites Abuse, one of the more ridiculously wasteful and time consuming means of cheating to deal with, is the topic of discussion in $realitysquared's journal. He has also posted a poll asking the community how it feels we should handle this kind of situation. Please take a few minutes to read and vote!

=jaster0001 recently posted a journal inviting deviants and Torn Comics followers to ask any questions they might have about the books, the characters, the creators and the website. The questions you send us will be answered in audio on the site. We have one up already! Please stop by TornComics.com, leave us any questions you've got in the Contact Us page and have a look around! We've got the first webcomic page for Cracker Ace drawn by =yourbuddybuddy up as well!

Less than Evil, the webcomic I'm drawing, is unfortunately in temporary posting-hiatus because of the move. The pencils and inks are coming along great but I still don't have a scanner up and running. This is also why a few of you are waiting on your commissions longer than I originally planned. As soon as we're out of temporary housing and into a house of our own I'll be able to get my scanner going again. You guys are awesome. Thank you for being so patient.

I'm still not officially back yet. I miss the everyday madness of dA terribly. We're waiting on our house here on base. Got to choose one but the last tenants were kinda jerkface-y and weren't very kind to the house so there's lots of things that have to be fixed before it's ready for new people. It's a sweet little house though and there's a really funky tree in the front yard and lots of room in the backyard for when I have to boot the rugrat out of the house.

I'm on a pretty temperamental internet card right now so I should scram before it starts fishing through my wallet some more. Hope you guys are having a good week. Happy Friday!

I'm running behind on our Less than Evil webcomic. The move has taken my scanner away but I'll be back on the weekly posting schedule as soon as I have it all set up again. We'll keep our blogspot for odds and ends, but everything professional will go up on the site. It's a brand new site so, just like with every baby there's some growing to do. I am incredibly happy with how it's turned out though. Major awesome points goes to =jaster0001 for doing such a good job putting it all together. We have some new artwork decorating the site that we haven't shown off yet and the first page of our first webcomic staring the Less than Evil baddies is also up! I've done a little editing to make the letters a bit easier to read for those with smaller resolutions. Hopefully it did the trick! Please have a look!

Our Twist in the Night signing this past Saturday was such a HUGE boost! ~scottygod, *dadicus, =viper13, =jaster0001, me, Shannon and Bill Bailey and Jenny Brundage (all of us creators on the horror book) got to greet customers and do sketches. *TonyParkerArt even dropped by and brought us cake! CAKE!

We'll be doing another signing at Spazdog Comics in Phoenix this Saturday.

dA's 9th BirthdAy was craaazy! I only make it onto dAmn a few times a year so it's always wild to see all the madness in there, especially during the birthday. It was fun though. It was nice getting to chat with some familiar deviant faces. CEA ran a contest, "Dare to Deviate". The winners were announced here. The turnout was awesome. There were so many good entries. We had a good time picking the winning submissions. Thanks so much to everyone who entered and congrats to the winners!

*raheight wrote a good journal earlier about comic con goers taking things a little too far and may shine some light on why some pros seem standoffish to fans. You can read that here. No one deserves that kind of disrespect. What that person had done was low and cowardly.

dA's 9th birthday is coming up pretty soon. There's a ton of exciting and super fun activities planned. This day is always a whirlwind of madness. I'm lookin forward to it. Keep an eye on journals over the next week. The party officially starts on August 7th!

$realitysquared wrote an information-filled article on deviantART's definition of pornography. In here you'll find a clear cut explanation of how deviations are judged and why some are pulled while others aren't. In the comments there's also questions asked by deviants that have been answered by dA staff. If you've got any questions that you see haven't been covered in there don't hesitate to ask.

TORN COMICS NEWS:
A large part of the creative team behind Twist in the Night: A Horror Anthology is going to be at Drawn to Comics in downtown Glendale, Arizona on August 8th from 11 to 5pm. If you're an Arizona resident and would like to meet some of the creators on the book and get your copy signed please stop by. We'll be at Spazdog Comics the following Saturday. I'll post info for that signing as the date gets closer.

I finished up the colors for the last pieces of collaborative artwork for TornComics.com early this morning. It features characters from some of Torn's future books. I'm also going to be updating the site with little blogs about behind the scene stuff on books like character concepts, eventually some previews of thumbnails or pages or just quick little notes to keep you guys updated on our progress.

Now that commissions are closed I officially have 12 bust sketches left to draw. Some of these are of characters I've been looking for an excuse to draw for ages now. I'm excited! I mentioned =viper13 received orders to Wichita Falls, TX a few journals back. We'll be moving there from Phoenix at the end of August. We were doing pretty good financially, getting ready for the move. But we ran into some unexpected problems. Our savings we had put aside for a few things, including the move, went mostly to fix these problems and is now gone. We have a little time to recover though. This is where he and I humbly offer up commissions in hopes of raising a little money to move on.

Bryce has posted a journal here with the details of his commission choices. I'm up to my neck in post-work for Torn's books so I really cannot offer to do elaborate commissions due to the lack of time. I'm watching Ghost Busters II on AMC for the umpteenth time this summer. These movies never fail to give me smiles. My favorite line from this one is easily "Everything you are doing is bad. I want you to know this." by Janosz. Not at all far from what my traditional animation teacher in college said to me while flipping through my sketchbook. Best. Critique. Ever.

I am annoyed by the AMC commercials though. They show flashes of clips from various amazing classic movies of every genre and then, just to give me more reason to question humanity, I'm sure, they toss in clips of Catwoman. Catwoman. No, seriously. That gross misrepresentation of DC's vixen villainess in bad Halle Berry movie form. THAT Catwoman. How is that even considered a classic film?! Why is it even being shown on AMC?! And whyyyy is it being included in this wonderful mixture of classic cinema?

=yourbuddybuddy is taking commissions. As the proud owner of a couple of his pieces I gotta plug his stuff. Go by his journal to see a list of his prices, which are super reasonable.

I'm just very excited for the Torn projects. The horror anthology postwork is comin along good. I'm incredibly anxious to start the thumbnails for my next book. Stranger Danger is just a tease! I can't wait to finally hold that book in my hands.

Hi guys, just a quick little journal to clear up a little misconception I've seen floating around dA today. deviantART's staff has a 3 day weekend starting today in observance of Independence Day. The CEA has also had one of its staffers on vacation for the past week. Understandably there's been some delay in deviation reports being handled because of this. There isn't any "slacking off", just some delay due to a well deserved break. We'll be back up and running on our normal hours on Monday.

I don't know why I fuss that I'm 28 years old today and that much closer to being the big 3-0. I'm still carded when I buy rated-R DVDs if someone isn't with me, for Pete's sake. Thank you sooo much to everyone who has wished me a happy birthday. You guys are sweet. $chix0r totally spoiled me with three awesome dA goodies.

I'm super busy with post work for the horror anthology Torn is working on. The mini comics are horrifically fantastic. I can't wait for this book to be completely put together. It's goin to be awesome. The pace Project Volunteer is moving at is amazing. We're 55 pages into the script and the story just hasn't slowed down at all. It's a great ride so far. As soon as the horror book is done and off to the printer I'll be starting prelim work on my first 100 page book. =jaster0001 wrote this one as well. I love the characters and adore the story. I'm sooooo excited to start working on it. And we're hopin to have some good news about Stranger Danger to throw your way soon!

I don't want to write up a long bit about how TV seems less entertaining now... but I miss Billy Mays.

Alright. So there's a couple of ya who will undoubtedly roll your eyes at me and cast blank stares in my general direction. But I need a moment to completely geek out.

LOOK AT THIS!!! It's so freakin beautiful! I really, really cannot wait for this movie. I've tried so hard not to be excited about it and to go into it like I do every other comic/cartoon related movie... expecting absolutely nothing. I just can't fight it anymore.

And might I just add that if there was ANY doubt that James Newton Howard could pull off Avatar's rich soundtrack it should be completely extinguished after listening to that incredible score in the teaser. That's Mr. Howard's music there. If the rest of the film's score is anything like this fans surely can't be disappointed. That man is absolutely brilliant.

Ahhh. I feel better. That was a geekery moment that HAD to be had.

The response to Project Volunteer has been incredible. Torn has such high hops for this and it's turning out to be everything we wanted for it so far. Pages 11-20 are being written as we speak. And pages 1-15 are in the process of being drawn. In fact, we have our first concept art already done and up as a deviation. ~Atuki has such a fun animated style. It's awesome to have her on board. I can't wait to draw her take of these characters.

We're coming closer and closer to the point when we'll need to stop asking for volunteers. All we need now is just one more artist to do the penciling and inking for 5 pages and three more writers to script 5 pages apiece. If you're interested please stop by Jeff's journal and let him know!

UPDATE: Project Volunteer is putting out the call for artists to do the interior artwork for the collaborative graphic novel. If you want to see your artwork published and be a part of this project please make sure you read over Jeff's journal and send him a note to let us know you're interested! This will work the same way as the writing process. Each artist will be given five pages of the script to draw and ink themselves. And the next artist in line will carry the story on with the following five pages, and so on until the book is finished.

We also have a stamp for the project so if you want to pimp it you can steal the code from the bottom of my journal or note me and I'll send it to ya.

The response to this has been overwhelming. You guys are amazing. Thank you!

Helloooo muffins! First things first, thank you for taking the moment to vote this past Saturday and aid in the slow deterioration of our minds by choosing which bad zombie movie we'd have to watch and review. The review for Enter... Zombie King is up here if you're curious.

Project Volunteer - A Torn Comics Collaboration:
=jaster0001, the super talented writer/editor for our little studio Torn thought up a fantastic idea tonight. One we'd like to make an open invitation for our friends and watchers to be a part of a future Torn Comics graphic novel.

The project is focused just on writers for the time being. Jeff will write the first five pages of the book and then forward them to the next writer in line, who will then continue the story with five more pages from where Jeff left off. Then those ten pages will be passed on to the next writer, who will add five more pages. This cycle will continue until we have a good-sized single collaboration by lots of writers.

I truly think this is a wonderful idea that has lots of potential and could be a really interesting way of seeing how a story evolves and how different artists think. If all goes well, we'll have a genuinely unique book! And something that'll be great way to get your name into a published book.

For many kiddos around the world it's summer vacation time. A time to chuck homework, school clothes, fretting about the test on Friday and early-to-rise times out the window. Unfortunately, with that freedom comes the inevitable boredom. It's too hot outside, your friends aren't around, the pool's closed, you have no money for the mall, nothing's on TV, the food in the fridge doesn't look good... your mom gets a murderous twitch in her left eye every time you enter her line of sight.

So what's left? Ahhh. Good ol' internet!
Who needs food or tempting your mom's wrath by asking for money again when there's a world of entertainment at your fingertips? And deviantART isn't blocked at home like it is at school. With the promise of artistic treasures tingling your fingertips who could possibly resist dA?!

...Evidently that chick you hate in your 2nd period home-ec class can't either.

That rotten home-ec chick made your teenage life hell during those miserable 45 minutes of your school day. Getting her back via the anonymity of the internet seems like a deviously genius idea, right? No one will ever suspect you if you create a new account for the sole purpose of harassing home-ec chick off the world wide web. LULZ will be had in the name of vengeance! Once she's reduced down to a wailing sob into her home-ec final exam crochet scarf you'll be able to finally relax and enjoy your summer vacation on dA.

But what's this? Home-ec chick won't back down! She keeps marking your epic wit at her expense as spam, won't react to the brilliance of your insults, won't write a journal about how her world is in ashes now that a horrible troll is ruining her page! And curses. Now that home-ec chick has blocked you.

Damn! A worthy adversary, indeed!

That "deviously denied" message on her page taunts you so. What could creating another account to get around that dastardly block hurt? It couldn't possibly be tracked back to your real account! The dA staff, the useless underworld creatures living in their mothers' basements they are, can't be that good.

More brilliant insults fueled by your epic wit and her ranting and raving friends on her userpage is the perfect cure for your boredom. You don't even miss creating artwork for your own enjoyment. The half-finished drawing you had started for father's day beckons from the dark corner of your art table. Ignore it! You have more important things to do! This home-ec chick must PAY for being better at crocheting scarves than you! How dare she get the two-rows-back cute guy's attention and compliments on her scarf making skills! Yours was just as good! _{Sure, it fell apart and became part of the tangled mass at the bottom your locker and now has a peculiar smell...} That's besides the point!

Ah hell. Your new trolling account was just banned. Ha! Well, your previous trolling account can still serve its purpose! You'll just use it to- Banned?!

There must be a way to report home-ec chick for harassment. Her stamp supporting "Twilight Haters" will surely get the staff's attention and guarantee her perfect scarf-making keister booted from the site. Yes. That's the plan. Good plan! You're a genius!

You'll just sign onto your real account and report her for- OMFGBANNED?! No way! How'd they find you?! The dA staff! They MUST be in cahoots with home-ec chick! At about 11:45pm this past Sunday night =viper13 handed me the very last page of The Fix. =jaster0001 finished the awesome script about two years ago and gave it to Bryce to do the pencils and inks. It's been a long time coming but the book is finally finished and it looks fantastic. Arcana Comics is releasing it sometime this year. I'm sure we'll all spaz in our journals when an official street date is announced. Congrats to those two!

About a month and a half ago an art teacher friend of mine invited me and the guys (those two I just finished babbling on about up thar) to come to her classroom and talk to her kiddos about doing comic book work. I was expecting 10 interested kids, at the very most. It wasn't until the day before that my friend let it slip that she was guessing 20-30 kids, at the least!, would be there. The three of us were greeted by eager eyes and oodles of questions about inspiration, technique, why we chose to do comics, writing, drawing, the characters and when they could have a copy of the book. We were never once asked how much comic work paid. That made me happy. Every single rugrat was interested and not one of them was hanging out at school after-hours because they didn't have anything else to do. They wanted to be there and talk to us. It was amazing. The youngest I met was a 2nd grader who had such a knack for comical expressions in her work. Her mom stopped by not long before the meeting ended and was talking to me about the story they were writing together based on her young daughter's ideas and characters. We had to promise to stop by again once Stranger Danger finally made it to print. Hopefully *yourbuddybuddy will be here with us by then!

I try to look for appropriate quotes to use as nice openers for my journals. Sometimes the ones I find aren't necessarily exact when it comes to the topic. In these situations I usually shrug off any doubt I might have in using said quotes and find amusement in the not-so-relevant pieces of wisdom left behind by the credited authors anyway.

Tonight's is one of the "exact" ones.

When it comes to my best good friend =jaster0001 Mr. Truffaut couldn't have possibly gotten it more right. I suppose I'm, by default, one of those sick people as well, for one; being a huge film lover and two; encouraging Jeff to do what it is he's doing to himself for the other sick people... I mean, "film lovers".

He's taken on the daunting task of reviewing B horror movies. Luckily, his non-comic-book-related job offers up a plethora of B horror movies for the picking. Having been on the phone with him as he read off titles and a few choice plot summaries I can certainly vouch for the B-tastic smorgasbord. He rented and bravely subjected himself to a movie so brilliantly titled "The Gingerdead Man". That's right. I said "Gingerdead".

His review of this movie is just the start of a on going project to expose those intrepid deviants who are interested in the wacky hit or miss world of the low-budget-bottom-half-of-a-double-feature horror goodness. Don't forget that you too can be one of those "sick people" (like me!) encouraging him to courageously trudge along through the muck for the sake of our entertainment. If you've got a B Horror Movie in dire need of his honest review don't hesitate to tell him.

My kiddo just informed me that there's no such thing as the Tooth-Fairy. I'm not sure how to respond to this sudden outburst of realism coming from my six year old. It's kinda sad for me, really. I'm a kid at heart; a large part of me misses the innocence of believing in the magical beings that drop off quarters for baby teeth in the night, y'know? Anyway, my rugrat suddenly seeming much more grownup than I am really threw off my afternoon. He's such a literal little stinker sometimes! If I had a quarter for every time I got the "Jeez, mom... you're such a dork." look from him I could take on the Mom, Ur-a-Dork-Fairy role.

By the way, !viper13 isn't really banned so please stop noting me asking me how I could allow for such a thing to happen and how Bryce couldn't have possibly deserved such a punishment. Yeeeeoooou don't know! He's a fiendish goblin that must pay for what he's done. There's only so much sass I can take. If I hear Ninja are better than Pirates ONE MORE TIME!...

Speaking of awesome vs awesomer... If you haven't watched Deadliest Warrior on Spike already, you gotta. (Youtube Linkage) Next week's episode is the Yukuza vs Mafia. I'm totally geekin out.

Looks like we're bein militarily relocated to Texas in September. I am sad. Arizona's my home. But I'm bein supportive. I know this is better for Bryce. He's unhappy here. The teaching job he's going to is so much better for him. Just wish there was a way for me to fold up people and take them with me. Well, there probably is a way but it'd be pretty gruesome and slightly reminiscent of that scene in IT when one of the bullies is folded in half and pulled through the pipe by his midsection.

There's a list of those that'll be completed over the next year in Jeff's journal here. He just finished up another script a couple days ago. If only those of us penciling his scripts could keep his pace!

We're also working on a website for Torn Comics. I'm slowly but steadily putting together images for the different pages. Flatting colors takes FOREVER. My deepest respect to those out there who do flatting for a living. I can't wait to get started on the collab *yourbuddybuddy and I are doing. He gets to draw a dinosaur. No, I'm not jealous! Really!

I saw a commercial for taco shells that have a flat bottom so they don't spill over when you're trying to fill them with taco innards. I thought it was a neat idea and was curious to see if it worked as advertised so I bought a box of them. Bryce, the ever optimistic one he is, immediately said that the bottom would fall out upon taking the first bite. I, the ever argumentative one I am, jumped on this bet as an opportunity to, not only prove him wrong, but finally get him to clean out the fridge.

So, the bet is if the bottom of the flat bottom taco shell doesn't come apart and spill taco innards all over his lap upon the first bite he has to clean out the portal to underworld that is our fridge.

I handle a lot of help desk inquiries everyday. The majority of all the tickets I answer are harassment related. For the most part these are valid complaints about the trolls who inevitably make it into our community. But, everyday I take on reports from deviants reporting others for harassment when the situation could have been avoided entirely. I've rattled on about this before. You remember. The whole "Don't Poke the Bear" bit? Well, this kinda touches on that.

We do rely on deviants to report deviations that are breaking policy. That's no secret and egads, are we grateful for those of ya who do make reports. You're amazing for doing that. The neat thing about the reports system is that it's anonymous. You can report a deviation for breaking policy and not have to worry about repercussions... like the policy breaker coming to your page to lose their mind in an epic all-caps spam fest revealing your apparent jealousy of their super awesome skills at editing Naruto screencaps.

That anonymity keeps you out of harm's way, keeps your experience here on dA a happy one and dArama-free. To be perfectly honest, it puts the blame for the deleted deviation entirely on us; the staff. A position we're all too happy to take the fall for. After all, it is our duty to enforce policy, right?

The harassment reports that result in me telling the reporter to simply block the deviant almost always involve a scenario where "deviant A" confronts "deviant B" about breaking policy. Understandable, yes. Helpful to us, absolutely not. What it does is immediately create a bubble of hostility.
"deviant B" could very well be completely oblivious to the rules. It happens with new deviants all the time.
"deviant B" could be misinformed that crediting lets them use whatever they want.
"deviant B" could actually be a deliberate art thief.
"deviant B" could just be here to cause trouble for anyone who gives them the opportunity.

Confronting someone when you, yourself, have no authority will almost always result in backlash. Making it public that you're reporting a specific someone on ^devart will almost always bring negative attention to your page. Writing a journal about a specific deviant you think is a waste of skin and hair will almost always cause dArama. Doing these things invites it to you. You're, again, dangling a nice big juicy steak in front of the bear.

I'm not at all saying that I won't take action against a deviant that is genuinely harassing another over being called out. What I am saying is that, more often than not, the whole situation could have been avoided. You're not showing everyone how clever you are by publicizing your reporting habits. You're not impressing or helping the staff. You're creating entirely new forks in the issue that we have to take in order to investigate. What does help us immensely is when a report is made and is kept to yourself.

I'm not goin to write up a huge movie review because I'm pooped and don't feel like sittin at the computer long enough to repeat what a lot of deviants have already said. That aside though, I really enjoyed the film. I thought the casting was brilliant (especially Rorschach, holy cats). The whole movie was just very pretty to look at. But, unlike a lot of films that are heavily CG based, I wasn't distracted by the pretty. I wish they were able to delve a little deeper into the Comedian's character... but it's understandable, considering the movie was already 2 hours and 43 minutes long. I wouldn't have objected to a two-parter. But, with the time it had, I honestly think the movie did fine. I'd totally go see it again.

And hooomygosh, Public Enemies looks fantastic. I frikkin love the John Dillinger gang story.

Alrighty, I'm goin to scram and watch some Venture Bros and work on my horror comic for Torn's Twist in the Night anthology. I got to momentarily sneak off from comic book work yesterday morning to see Friday the 13th with =viper13 and =jaster0001. It was SO much fun! The movie is so good and I thoroughly loved every minute of it. I do have a favorite kill but I totally don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. If you guys are fans and haven't had the chance to go see it DO IT as soon as you can!

The trailers before the movie were fantastic for the most part too. I'm aaaaching to see 9. The movie looks absolutely incredible and it's got such a great cast too! The music used in the trailer got me going. It's one of those songs that makes me want to sit down and write again. It's Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria. I gotta find that sucker on Rock Band. It's a brilliant song.

There was also a newer trailer for Watchmen. Before, I was kinda on the fence with that one since they started showing promo material for it. Then again, I'm that way with any comic movie. I go into them expecting nothing. But this new trailer has swayed me a bit. I do love the cast. They couldn't have picked a better group of actors. Especially for The Comedian. Holy cats. (And is it just me or has Jeffrey Dean Morgan been type-casted as the guy who DIES in his roles?) But I can't really say I'm a huge fan of the story. I'm not indifferent but I'm not falling over myself to say it's the best ever. I'd really like to see the movie though.

Tarantino's new film Inglourious Basterds looks... interesting.

Jeff, Bryce and I got to do an interview with Tom Healy for his net show I Have Issues last Saturday. It was a little nerve-wracking but Jeff did a really great job making us look good. I think I may have squeaked "WHYTWOJENN!" when Tom asked for our deviantART usernames. The interview will be up on the I Have Issues site sometime soon. Until then though, if you watch his most recent posts you'll catch a peek at promo stuff for our studio's horror anthology book, which Jeff covers in our interview. I'm really excited about this book. Anyway, the program is a really, really entertaining one about comic books and geekery. It's a fun show. Damnit. Oreo Cakesters are fantastic. I didn't want to admit it because =jaster0001 practically crammed one down my throat today when I refused to try it. But damnit, are they nommable.

I really want to cook more often. It's annoying how often we order out for food or throw a quick microwavable meal together at dinner time. I have all this wonderful cookware and I barely get to use it. I think the problem lies in the fact that I don't know a lot of recipes that don't require oodles of time in the kitchen... let alone a lot of recipes at all. That illusive cookbook of mine has wandered off and hasn't been seen in almost two years and I don't have the cash to go out and buy a good one again. I just don't have a lot of time for anything other than work and... well, work.

So my question for yous guys tonight is do you have any quick dinner recipes that don't include the microwave or hours of barefooted slavery in the kitchen? Better yet, recipes that won't result in me setting things on fire or losing utensils behind the stove? If you don't mind publicly sharing them toss them up here for me and for others to partake in!

Valentine's Day is coming up. Never mind that pink-covered excuse for chocolate gluttony. My excitement is for the day before! I'm going out to the movie theater early to see Friday the 13th with the guys. I try not to go into the theater expecting much, especially with comic book and horror films. I'm not hard to please... If I enjoy it and don't walk out of the theater wanting my money back then I call it a good day. But I really, reaaaaallllly want this one to be good. I'm aching for a good horror movie I haven't seen dozens of times.

The day before that, the 12th, my little guy is turning 6 years old. 6 years old!

Quick journal tonight to tell yous muffins about the new Torn Studios blog. Torn is the group =jaster0001, =viper13, *yourbuddybuddy and I put together. We've got so many projects in the works and one is officially finished and waiting for a release date. Jeff is a writing machine. I'm so excited!

Anyhoo, you can keep an eye on that blog for news and behind the scenes stuff like sneak peek pages before the books' actual releases. We've also got a Myspace page. If you've got blogspots let me know! I've been meaning to update the list of blogs I attempt to peer in on once in a while.

Alright. I have to crack my knuckles here and be an admin for a bit for this next part. Stop stirring up drama for yourself. Seriously. Don't come to the Help Desk complaining and whining that someone is bothering you when you went to their page first and insulted their choice of fanart subjects. Who honestly gives a hoot if one artist draws a "non-canon" pairing? If you don't like it move on, click around, there's a gazillion deviations out there. There's bound to be something you do like! So you get into a fight with someone over Naruto swappin spit with the pink-haired girl. After getting what you think is the last word in you block the other deviant and have a little victory dance. Upon visiting their page to see if they're crying about being so amazingly pwnd you find a journal with a few colorful words pointed in your general direction. Ah noes! A harassment report will surely solve this! I'm afraid not, little deviant. YOU poked the bear. YOU danced in front their cage waving around a hunk of juicy meat and now you're crying to us that you got your arm chewed off? Take your arm, bandage up that pride and remember that next time you feel the need to insult someone's family over Naruto's existent/nonexistent relationship with the angry pink-haired girl... perhaps you should find something more meaningful to do with your time. Like creating stellar artwork!

Well, Superbowl was a bummer for me. I was really rootin for the Cards. I so wanted to see them do well and just shmoosh the Steelers. Great game though. Insanely entertaining and my voice is raspy from shouting at my brothers to shut their traps before they jinx the game. Let's not forget to mention that, despite my warnings that any definite prediction of the game would surely promise a bad outcome for the Cardinals, one brother made it a point to make his greeting to me an announcement that he bet $200 on the Cards to win.

I very nearly kicked him out of the house right then. Minutes before kickoff. Sigh. Yeah, yeah. I'm goofy and crazy superstitious but no one understands the negative power prediction has over my TV. I once stupidly said "Well, three points is better than nothin." seconds before the Cowboys kicked a perfectly positioned field goal... and MISSED.

=jaster0001 just called to ask if I was crying during the end of the game. No. I wasn't! Those were tears of fury and hardly count as crying!

...I'm goin to stop before I succeed in convincing you guys that I'm truly nuts.

This was my first time at a table at my hometown comic convention. I can say that, as fantastic as it was, WWTX was not at all good enough practice for this show. I was terrified at the beginning but quickly relaxed when we tucked in and got ready for the crowds as soon as the doors opened on Thursday. It was amazing. My total admiration and heart goes out to Matt and his team for putting together such an awesome comicon. It's so easy to feel completely at home.

=jaster0001, =viper13 and I finally got to meet *yourbuddybuddy, who is so supremely awesome and was immediately family. We were kept insanely busy doing sketches, promoting our books, meeting fans, friends and our heroes, doing commissions and just generally feeling a dizzying mixture of humility and pride. Jeff was a constant source of entertainment (and encouragement) and when JB finally came along the two of them were so funny and succeeded in bruising my cheeks from all the laughter. I work with amazing guys. Sometimes I feel like I'm the stuffing in a moron sammich with a side order of jerkface fries... but I love ya.

We met so many people! Local deviants and friends ~ryancody, *Moonshaft, *Landauart, ~scottygod, =skulljammer, ~cvilaire, =Jolene-H, ~SteamCrow, *TonyParkerArt, ~teabagcomics, *jessasketch were all there being super and talented. It was nice getting to chat with them and to meet some of them for the first time ever! Oh egads, I'm forgetting people, I just know it! ~scottygod was so freakin nice, spoiling the four of us with too many gifts. JB threatened to punch him a few times because apparently the sweetness is too much for him to handle.

`cheeks-74, ~ColtNoble and =travsthebean and our table neighbor buddy from WWTX, Andy Khun were there being incredibly amazing as well. Sean and Trav were both so busy so it was an extra special treat to be visited by them at our table a couple of times. They both are such brilliant artists and kind people. They're both out-of-towners but, like JB, have totally been dubbed honorary Arizonians.

The badges Scotty, Bryce, Ben and I had our artwork printed on all did so well. We had so many people stopping by asking for our autographs on them. That was the neatest thing.

I love this convention. It always lights a fire under me. I'm reminded of why I'm an artist and why I choose to work with these guys, why I care about these projects so much. I'm so grateful for it. I can't wait for next year. We're goin to rock it.

If I met you at con please tell me here! I want to properly thank everyone who stopped by to say hello, to get a sketch or a commission and who made our experience such a memorable one. I have work to do so I need to scram. You guys have a good rest of the night/day!

There's going to be so many talented deviants there and the guest list is awesome. I can't wait. I hope to meet some more deviants!

I'm getting over an awful cold and keeping busy working on my chapter of Stranger Danger vol. 2. Drawing baddies eating donuts while talking about a hostile takeover is always good fun.

=jaster0001 is putting together profile pieces for the characters from Stranger Danger. The first character, Spike, is up on Jeff's page right now. He posted a poll asking which character you'd like to see next. We know you guys don't know the characters yet so totally vote based on the name alone! It's a five-way tie right now (this is excluding the votes Jeff and I made) so we're in a bit of a pickle.
If you're interested please stop by and leave a vote on his poll and keep an eye on his page for more character profiles. That and he's a spectacular writer so if he EVER gets around to posting some of his written work you won't miss out on it.

Onto the awesome news! =thundercake, who is an absolute peach, will be doing the cover for the Stranger Danger Volume 2. So, now that the cat's out of the bag, it's safe to officially say that the original creative team is back and we're all really eager to get started on the next installment. =thundercake's work is incredible so we're really lucky to have her on board this time around.

This next year is promising many exciting things and I can't wait to get started on them and see how they unfold. 2008 was a good year. There are things I wish I could do over, just to do them better and there are things I can't undo at all, no matter how much I wish I could. But I have no regrets. This year was the year that I accomplished more artistically than I ever had before. I worked with an incredible bunch of people. I went through some extremely amazing highs and a couple of stressful times and came out virtually unscathed from it with a whole day left in the year to spare.

2008 will be remembered fondly.

I hope you guys enjoy ringing in your New Year! Be careful, take care of each other and don't do anything too stupid. That's for me to do. I have the tutu and lamp shade hat all ready to go. Lotsa love, muffins!

Goooood morning, muffins! I do hope you guys who had one enjoyed your Thanksgivings! The hubby, the kid and I were completely spoiled with *jaster0001's cooking. I didn't get to bake my pie (no time!) so I managed to not poison anyone this year. Maybe next year! We all a really good time. It lasted all weekend. I would love to know what you guys are thankful for and how your weekend was!

A lovely girl and a very talented young artist is in need of that amazing community spirit I see everyday. *patsumii-yuki is in a tight spot with an illness and raising the funds for medication. She is taking commissions for gorgeous collaboration pieces for just $15. Even if you guys can't commission or donate to her please just scoot over there and give her a deviant hug. A little bit of encouragement goes a long way.

This Saturday (December 6th) *jaster0001, *viper13 and I will be at Charlie's Comics in Tucson doing sketches and helping raise some money for a local charity. We'll be promoting the books we're working on too. *TonyParkerArt will be there as well, along with several other creators. It's going to be so much fun. So if you're in the Tucson area please stop by!

Welllll, the deadline I was on in the last journal has since then come and gone. With everything that happened I'm grateful it went as well as it did. This book... I love this book. I can't wait til me and the guys are able to show you more than just the cover!

Wizard World was, for lack of a better word, awwwwesome. *jaster0001, *viper13 and I stayed up all night before our flight out of Phoenix so we were all pretty zombie-like when we finally set foot down in Texas. Our hotel was nice and there were a few other con-goers staying there as well. Didn't see them until we were outside waiting for cabs to the convention center though. Heaps of nerdery took over the front entrance of the hotel every morning.

Friday was terrifying for me. This was my first con ever behind a table of my own. I was so nervous. Jeff and Bryce were so super, kept telling me to chill out, helped me put all my stuff out on display with signs and helped me pick out which pages of Stranger Danger to have out on the table. We had two tables for the three of us so Bryce took the other table and Jeff bounced back and forth between them. When I had settled in and was breathing a little easier Jeff told me I had to get up and go meet Frank Cho (who was sitting just across and down a couple tables from Bryce) before the con opened to the public.

I'll never live this down.
Frank Cho is easily one of my favorite artists ever. Whenever I open one of his books I'm just in awe. So actually meeting the man was just HUGE. I wandered over there (looking incredibly pathetic, I'm sure), took a deep breath, stuck out my hand and said "Mr. Cho, can I shake your hand? *shake*...*pause* Yeeeerrr ahhwwwwesome." Right around then my brain was screaming "NAAAAOOOOH! TURN AROUND AND GO!" so I don't remember anything after that before I found myself sitting in my own chair again and reliving the nightmare in detail to a laughing Jeff. Bryce says Frank Cho just smiled the whole time I was displaying large amounts of stupid in front of his table. So maybe it wasn't a total disaster.

When the numbness of the shock of being a buffoon to one of my favorite artists wore off I started to take in the other artists surrounding my table. I was sitting next to Andy Kuhn and Phil Hester. Needless to say I was geeking out a little bit. Both of which are such super nice guys and amazing artists and teased me the whole time we were there.

*mechangel2002 was just on the other side of them. She's such a sweetie and it was so nice to finally meet her! Her table looked amazing with all the goodies she had laid out on it. Behind her was *Inkblotzart. We all met Chris at our con this past January but it was so great to actually have a chance to talk to him! You guys were so neat.

*m-u-d-c-a-t and *rantz were across the room. Better they were over there because both of them were stinky.
I love those two. It was such a treat to finally meet you guys. I hope we all get to hang out again sometime.

Just two more days until *viper13, *jaster0001 and I leave for Wizard World Texas. Our table numbers are 3160 and 3320. That's if nothing changes between now and then. I imagine we'll all be moving back and forth between tables throughout the convention. If you're goin to be there please stop by and say hi! We'd all love to meet more deviants. Deadline for the comic project I'm workin on with Jeff, *Werecat-Studios and *yourbuddybuddy is coming up VERY soon. It's got me on edge but everything is moving along like it should. This is so amazing for me. Never ever did I imagine in my wildest dreams that I would be doing an actual graphic novel one day. It was something that crossed my mind but was never something I thought I could do. I doubted myself. I'm very lucky to have such wonderful people in my life who support me, encourage me to continue and have shown so much faith in my capabilities. I'm lucky to be a part of such an awesome team. I can't wait to hold this book in my hands. Just to feel it between my fingers... to see that it's real.

I hold this site, this community, responsible for so many things in my life. It enables me to support my family. It gave me some of the most amazing friends I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, on and offline. And it pushes me to remember why I'm an artist. I do this for me. I do this because it's the deepest part of who I am.

I'm babbling. I guess I'm still reeling from it all.

deviantART's Annual Halloween Hunt is on! This one promises to be epic. I hear there's zombies already chewing on some poor unsuspecting folks who don't know how to AIM FOR THE HEAD! Grab the nearest cricket bat and hop in on that if you're interested! These are always so much fun.

$realitysquared and I play a really low-tech online massive multi-player zombie apocalypse game called Urban Dead. It's super easy and it's all based on action points so it's not something you have to continuously keep an eye on. If you're already playing or want to join my name's Gunther Gutrot. How're you guys doing so far this week?

I learned an incredibly important lesson yesterday while a particularly nasty fight with a very stubborn panel of an excruciating comic page... don't skip pages/panels!!! I'm still soooo new to this so I'm totally learning as I go. Note to future-self... DON'T SKIP PAGES OR PANELS, JENN! Acknowledged and filed away for future reference, past-Jenn. Thank you.

That said, I did manage to get quite a bit of drawing done this weekend. What'd you guys do?

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I'm so good at that.

This past Saturday was 24 Hour Comic Day! For those of ya who don't know what it is it's basically an official holiday of sorts that gives the comic community all the more reason to stay up without sleep, OD on caffeine and get some work/fun/work-fun done. Most use it to do an entire comic (writing, penciling, lettering, etc.) in just 24 hours. Like last year, *viper13, *jaster0001 and I spent it working on current projects in our favorite comic shop. It wasn't all business. Christopher Walken and Al Pacino made an appearance. Schwarzenegger (holy socks, I actually spelled that right without having to look it up!... This is coming from a doof who manages to confuse spell check on a daily basis!) was there too. The guys are incapable of getting through the day without doing those impressions. It's hilarious.

We all got a lot done. Bryce inked for the most part... when he wasn't shopping. Jeff was working on his next script... when he wasn't shouting "HOO-AH!". I kept busy penciling... when I wasn't fussing over how hard robots are to draw or laughing at Bryce and Jeff. We allllllmost made it the whole 24 hours. We headed out of the shop around 2:30 or so in the morning (the shop's owners were there with us, they needed sleeeep!) and all crashed on Jeff's couch around 4:30am. We're a bunch of lightweights.

Next year! NEXT YEAR we'll make it through the whole night.

It was a fun day. I wish there were more of those throughout the year. Alrighty, I need to get back to work. Happy Monday, guys.

*viper13 and I (along with *Werecat-Studios and *yourbuddybuddy) have been working with one of my favorite jerkfaces and brilliant writer, *jaster0001 for a few months now. We all planned on self-publishing two books, The Fix and Stranger Danger (with more to come). But we got pitched to Arcana Comics and they liked us! They really liked us! We're being published by an actual comic book company! It's something that's still sinking in for me. Both books won't be out until after the new year but you can get a sneak peek at The Fix right now here. Stranger Danger's preview is soon to follow. So, exciting news greatly lacking in babies but copious in amounts of word bubbles!

Totally putting this next part under a cut because egads, 102 thumbnails is 102 thumbnails. Hmm, y'know what? Since 102 thumbnails would be difficult to load all at once for some I'll feature the 17 deviants here tonight and then thumbnails from their favorites in my next journal.

I've been sneezing or coughing up both lungs for about four days. Bryce brought something home from work. I guess I sound like I've been nomming on gravel for a week.

I'm up to my eardrums in artsy work! None of which I can show you guys yet. I do have a couple of sketches I might throw up into my gallery to prove that I am indeed doing something with my free time! The deadline for my biggest project with *jaster0001, *yourbuddybuddy and *Werecat-Studios is coming up QUICK! I'm feeling extremely excited and anxious and generally sick to my stomach. It's like experiencing a first day of school every morning. Either that... or I'm not sleeping enough and eating too much coffee grounds.

I need to get to work.
