If true, this is of course completly false - no teacher in Israel goes into the classroom armed. Good movie - Nolan is a very capable movie-maker; I didn't get bored for most of its monstrous 164 minutes run-time, and there were a lot of very nice bits and pleasant surprises (Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle was a complete surprise, JGL - Tommy Solomon to his friends - a true revelation). Marion Cotillard still annoys the hell out of me, but, hey! - I have my weird attractions, I think Nolan has earned the right to his.<br /><br />Now, the two people at the center of the movie - Batman and Bane...         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ OK, lemme see: I loved Superman 1 & 2, but they don't really hold up (especially 1). The Tim Burton Batman movies were great, and I still like them a lot. X-Men 1 & 2: very good  (though Hugh Jackman and McKellen really carried them - not much else there, I felt). Iron Man 1: excellent, loved it. The Nolan Batman: very cool movies, but really too artsy/angsty/plain dark for me (and with too many plot holes that made me mad as I watched them). Blade 1 & 2: stupid but fun. And 3 had Jessica Biel kicking ass, so... thumbs up.<br /><br />Now, about The Avengers...<br /><br />This was a blockbuster movie done RIGHT. Writer Alex Pappademas uses a short meeting with Stan Lee as the backdrop to the story of how the comics industry treated the men who created the basis for what was to become a multi-billion industry. Which is still way better than %99 percent of your regular summer fare.<br /><br />Some thoughts:<br />* One criticism I've heard - plot too convoluted, too many villains; Not my feeling, I thought it was pretty tight most of the time (a bit rambling in the middle, but it served the plot), and the villains jelled just fine.<br />* Indeed didn't have the loosness of the first, RDJ was a bit TOO manical, a lot of the humour fell flat. Still - enough light touches and throwaway jokes that did work to keep it light enough.<br />* Lots more action than IM I - and it totally works. Jon Favreau even gets to ]]></media:text>

About - mo surprise here - Microsoft.<br /><br />Short history: bought my computer late last year, paid $2200 to get the best components + 64-bit Vista. It worked OK, but I never got used to the feel of Vista. When Win 7 came out, I didn't heed my own rule of "always wait for the first service pack", and upgraded (an extra $200) - AFTER making sure that all components of my 5 months-old computer are "Win 7 ready".<br /><br />Result: Disaster. The computer crashes repeatedly. I update all drivers - no good. The computer generates tons of files after each crash, but Microsoft Support - very nice and polite in a creepy, totally un-Israeli way -  ]]></media:text>

Say what you will about Vista - and I've said quite a mouthful! - in the 6 months I had it, it never went and zonked out on me. I have Win 7 installed for less than a week, and already 3 times it just blinked out. When I turn it back on, it sheepishly tells me that it had to close down - the reason being "BlueScreen" - and offers to go online to find a solution. There is NO solution online, natch (is there ever?), but it's all very friendly and easy-going, sort of a puzzle to wonder at in my free hours. The jury is still out, as I hardly had any time to do heavy-duty work on it, but I suspect I know what the verdict will be:<br />I AM A MORON!!!<br />Paying $2000 for a new computer, when all you use it for is sporadic Photoshop and light 3D work is STUPID. It's working OK - all software and most drivers work without a hitch, and being able to utilize all 6 GBs of RAM (instead of just under 3 on XP) is really nice (the stutter I was getting when working with my Intuos was one of the main reasons I upgraded). But I have to say I'm still strangely uncomfortable with the user interface... S ]]></media:text>

This made me face some issues I have been very conveniently ignoring. Besides the question of copyright on the original pictures, there are the "models" themselves: imagine surfing the web, and suddenly coming across a picture of yourself - transformed into a hideous monster (which, as we know, is what many people consider my particular type of transformation). AND - it's something you did not sanction and/or get money for. If it's a drawing - OK, artistic licence comes into play; but your picture?         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Had a bit of trouble with my dad -the man IS 85, and it's only to be expected, but two weeks ago he was hauling heavy furniture around like an especially athletic teenager; so, seeing him lying helpless in a hospital bed was quite a shock.<br />My advice? First chance you get - hug your dad (and/or your mom). Tell them how much you love them. Because you do, you really do; all the other stuff (and everybody has "other stuff" with their parents) is not really important, and you don't want to hold off with this until it's too late. ]]></media:text>
