First off, thanks for all the faves and comments on my recently submitted art! It means a lot. My birthday is coming up on December 3rd! I'm gonna have a party with my friends at my house, should be fun. I'm also seeing Trans Siberian Orchestra on the 29th of December with ~ilytoo!! I'm so excited!

I took Joker out on his first trail ride a week or so ago. We went out for a walk with my mom walking beside us, through the forest and fields and stuff. Joker was really good, no spooking or anything. I think we got over the problems with putting the bridle on, he's been very cooperative with it the last few times. He was sooo dirty today... rain + horses = . Grooming; the process of transferring dirt from the horse onto the owner..

I've been playing Farmville compulsively the last few weeks. *eyetwitch*

An Odd Day at the Barn...

I've had a busy past few days...
On Thursday night I went to the Halloween dance which was super fun. I went as Harry Potter... it was epic. Then I had Wind Symphony next morning at 7:00 am... After school that day I went to my friend's Halloween party at her house. Slept in on Saturday morning, then went trick or treating with two friends. Then on Sunday morning I went to my dad's friend's house and raked leaves for 3 hours, watched the Spruce Meadows showjumping on tv, worked on art, and then went to the barn.

So I went and got Joker, all was good.. we groomed, tacked up. He was really good up until the bridle.. he really did NOT want it in his mouth. He was bobbing his head up and down, backing up etc. He eventually broke one of the crossties, it really freaked me out and I just couldn't do it anymore. So I took off his saddle and brought him back out to the pasture. He was being really cute once we got out.. so I decided to do some groundwork with him. Starting with the lead rope, then I took it off leaving just his halter. I walked away from him, and he started following me. After that, I started running around with him trotting after me! When I stopped, he stopped. We even went over a jump together! It was really awesome, and I'm glad we had some fun after the bridle fiasco..

New Bridle and ZOMBIELAND!

MAN, I love my horse.

Today, my dad and I went out to the Greenhawk Tack store. We checked out some bridles and bits, and we ended up getting a black bridle and a full-cheek french link snaffle. We also got another curry brush, some horse treats and winter riding gloves. After we went to the tack store, we drove back home, got something to eat.. then we went over to the barn to try out the new bridle. It fit perfectly and Joker responded really well to it. It looks pretty nice on him too. We had a really good ride, he was very willing to do what I asked of him.

I have recently become obsessed with MLIA ( [link] )... spent a good couple hours reading the stories on there yesterday..

I saw Zombieland with my boyfriend on Saturday. It was hilarious. Kinda gorey, but whatever. Some girl sitting in front of us left 10 minutes in cause she couldn't handle zombies eating people alive... I highly suggest it to people who aren't queasy.

Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope everyone gets to spend the holiday with their family.

Yesterday was the Rockton Fair, I went with my friends and we watched the Hunter/Jumper show, went on a couple rides and ate overpriced fair food! The show was pretty cool, lots of good riders and some really nice looking horses. Lots of falls though, one girl fell off her horse and landed right on the fence, I don't think she continued with the show.. cause she looked pretty badly hurt.

Today, I'm working on art (for school and some trades), going horseback riding later and helping my mom with the Thanksgiving dinner. Sorry about the long wait with trades, I've just been so busy with school art, I have no motivation to finish anything else. We're working on an assignment right now with Conte and it's so. darn. messy. The assignment is due Tuesday so I have to finish that before I get on trades, sorry.

Heartland, My Silly Horse

Gah, I just love fall. The weather has been really nice and cool lately, even though it's been raining a lot.

I don't know if any of you watch Heartland, but the season premiere was on last night and ...it was awesome. Ty and Amy are FINALLY together. Pretty much everything about the episode was perfect, except for stupid Caleb. If you don't know what it's about, it's based on the Heartland books, Amy Fleming, her sister and her grandpa own a horse ranch and help with neglected horses.

So, today after school I went to see Joker. He got his feet done today, they look great. I used my english saddle today and I'm getting a lot more confident when I'm riding him. We can trot for a long time, and I feel like I have a lot more control over him. I had set up a jump with the poles lying on the ground so we could practice trotting through. Once we get to the poles Joker ACTUALLY jumped over them! It was so cute.. and fun. The owner of the stables, Brenda, said one day a bunch of other boarders are gonna get together and go for a trail ride, she said it will be good for me to get used to riding out there and it'll be better to go with other people. Should be fun!

Sorry for lack of art and stuff, I've been really lacking motivation to finish art lately..

Ramblings; Still Sick, Cats and Joker

*cough* Hi all, I'm still sick.. took yesterday off from school and half of today. I went in around the end of lunch so I wouldn't miss my art presentation.. which I couldn't really do so ~Isabella-Elric spoke for me. Love ya, Rachel. I finished my entire portfolio thank gosh, it was taking soooo long. I'll try to get some pictures of it when my teacher is done marking it.

Some kitty news;
We found out that Milo has passed away, my friend Mica found him in the cornfield in between our houses. We think it may have been poison that killed him. Rest in peace, little buddy. No news of Henry yet, and .. I'm really starting to think he's not coming back. My grandma loved the cats and was pretty lonely without them so my uncle decided to look for some cats online for adoption. He found this pretty little cat named Pearl; [link] So today my uncle, grandma and I went out to see her and she turned out to be really sweet, she's got all her shots.. she's fixed. I could tell my grandma really liked her so we brought her home and she's fitting in really nicely so far. She has this one little thing where she nips your fingers if you pet her in certain places but other than that she's really sweet. I lost my camera.. so I don't know when I can get some pics of her.

Joker news;
Went to the barn on Sunday and brought my western saddle with me (this one: [link]). And we tried it on Joker, it fits!! It looks pretty darn spiffy on him, and it's really comfy too. Gonna go see him again tomorrow after school.

Speechless

Literally..
I have laryngitis, so when I talk I either am whispering, or sounding REALLY odd. I've been sick for a few days with a cold, and I went to my friend Turner's birthday party last night. Lots of swimming, yelling, singing (the usual) and now my voice is gone. At least it's the weekend and I don't have school. School has been going well, but stupid me forgot my art project that's due Tuesday at Turner's house so I have to get a hold of him somehow so I can pick it up. But I can't call him cause my voice is gone, my cell is dead.. so I can't text him.. AUGH. Hopefully I can get it soon. MY art project is the cover for my portfolio, I'm (of course) doing a horse theme.

The 'R' is a lead rope that's bent so it actually looks like an R, the I is a spur, L is a riding crop, the E is a helmet and the Y is some bits bent into the right shape. In the background I'm going to have a kind of collage with photos and drawings of Joker. It should be pretty cool once it's done.

Had my first fall on Joker the other day. Ashley came to the barn with me after school and we went riding for a bit. I was trotting Joker, and decided it would be a good idea to trot without stirrups (stupid me ) and slipped off. I wasn't too badly hurt, but I got my thumb caught in something so it hurt a tad. So now Brenda (owner of the barn) thinks we should do some trotting work on the lunge line, so I can get my position better. Wish me luck.

School has started this week, and I've been really tired after a full day of school. I haven't had a huge workload but it's still not very fun. I'm taking English, Music, French and Art.

School, Joker and Missing Cats

Another journal entry... joy.

School is starting in a week, September 8th to be exact. I'm pretty excited to see my friends more often, but of course I'll miss hanging around doing nothing. I'm gonna try to finish my room before school starts, I got some new furniture and we're gonna paint the walls green. I have some WIPs to finish, and I recently acquired lots of art supplies from my great grandma who passed away a couple years ago. She was an awesome artist and I also got some paintings of hers.

Today my dad, grandma and I went to go see Joker again. I went over to the pasture to bring him in to tack up, and without using the lead rope he started following me, he kept following me til we got to the gate, where I put the lead on and we went up to the barn. It felt so awesome. Riding was good, we went over the bridge 4 or 5 times, doesn't seem to bother him a bit which is definitely good.

Both my cats are missing, Henry and Milo. Milo ran away a couple weeks ago, and hasn't been back since and Henry has been gone for almost a week. I'm going to print off some posters and hang them around town and on street posts on the streets near my house. Hopefully they just went to someone's house and are being taken care of.

Yesterday I got to ride Joker for the first time! We went to the barn so I could do some lead rope work with him as usual, I went out to his pasture and brought him to the riding area and did some work around the pile-ons and barrels etc.. Jenn asked if I wanted to lunge him with the saddle to see how he would react and I said sure, so we went to the barn and got him tacked up with some borrowed tack (aka a western headstall and Jenn's saddle ). So then after he was a good boy with the lunging Jenn said he would get up on him and if he was good I could ride him. He's such a good boy! Very responsive, but he's dragging his back feet 'cause they need a trim. I got to ride him after, it was awesome. I felt totally calm and we even went over the bridge, which is pretty good for him since I think it's his second time going over it. I'm so happy with my goofball.

He was doing the weirdest thing though, I guess he had to pee so he was standing in the crossties with his legs all ready like he was going to pee, but he didn't. So after I untacked him I brought him to his pasture and sure enough he goes pee. He's so funny.

Update: So after reading *Arborish's updated journal about the dogs, I am very happy to say that 18 out of 19 dogs to be put down, were adopted last night! The last dog will be given an extra week. Great news, makes me a happy Riley.

This is a lineup of dogs who are going to be put down as soon as they wake up in the morning, if no one calls or emails tonight to calim them.

My family called in, and we're going to foster Emitt. (Unless he gets adopted, and then we'll foster another one.) These dogs have such sweet faces and heartbreaking stories. If you are anywhere in the area, and can foster a dog or want to adopt one... there's a wide variety right there.

A bit of info on fostering: You're not really responsible for the dog. You agree to take them to the vet, and keep them in your home. Teach them manners, if you can. The shelter still pays for the vet visits, and they're still actively looking for a home for the dog.

Several of these dogs have grown up with family, and manners. Beethoven is 10 years old. He was surrendered because of allergies. He likes other dogs, kids, and is house trained.

There are two dogs who are a mere six months old. They haven't even had a chance to live yet.

Sweet dogs, shy dogs, energetic dogs. Young ones, old ones. Ones who know how to shake, ones who are afraid. They all need a home.

Anything you can do to help - if you know anyone in dallas who could foster, or wants a dog, anything. These poor babies need someone to help them.

Joker's Wild

Alright.. so yesterday. I, uhh, got a horse.

His name is Joker (full name: Joker's Wild), he's a 5 year old thouroughbred gelding. He's got awesome bloodlines with his grandsire placing 2nd in the Kentucky Derby. He's so sweet and has had little kids riding him with no problem. We're boarding him at a place down the road a bit from my house. It's really nice there, they've got 89 acres of land.. with lots of trails. There's a riding area with lots of trail stuff so that horses and riders can get used to the thing they will see on the trails. The owners of the place are really friendly so I'm not afraid to ask for help if I need it.

My dad purchased Joker from a friend of his who had 5 horses, but is getting older so she can't take care of them all now. I'm so happy and thankful for him. We're probably going to stop by and say hi this morning before we go to Toronto so that should be fun.

Sorry for lack of updates. I ish lazy.

On Saturday I went to Cactus Fest () with my friend Brandon. We met up with some people (Lindsey, Julia, Tyler and Josh) and saw a few bands, ate some unhealthy food, went on some painful rides and overall acted like teenagers. I was sooooo tired, we left at ... 10:30.

Other than that it's been same old, just lazing around the house... but no drawing. I'm so lazy. I just have a couple more things to finish and then my to do list is done! Although I probably should do some ref sheets next.

Closing Store & Harry Potter!

As of this Saturday, my dad's store will be closed. He has a antique store, but since the rent has been tripled () he's going to have to close down. It's pretty sad, but at the same time it'll be nice for my dad to have a break.. he NEVER takes breaks from work. So I've been busy working at the store, packing things, painting furniture, helping move stuff. And until next Sunday I probably won't have loads of time for the computer. We might go camping to Algonquin or something the week after or spend some time with my Aunt who's visiting from Alberta.

I saw the new Harry Potter last Friday!!! I was quite happy with it, but of course there were a few things they missed from the book... I went with ~GargleSnarfBlack and ~Isabella-Elric for Rachel's birthday. It was QUITE the fun time, I must say. We ate pizza and ice cream pizza, followed by watching Eddie Izzard on TV and playing with Rachel's new tablet.

My to do list is dwindling.

I'm Back!

I just finished going through over 650 deviations plus some messages. I let them pile up for a bit. Bad, Riley, bad!

We got back from Alberta on Tuesday. I had a really fun time, and even got to ride one day. I took a tonne of pictures while I was there.. which will all eventually be posted on Facebook.

As of lately we've been taking Polly (our dog) out for walks. It's been really nice, since now I realize how to actually control her and not just get dragged everywhere. Watching The Dog Whisperer helps. It's been fun, and I'm actually getting out of the house more, which is always good.

Today I worked on some art and FINALLY finished up that contest prize. Looks pretty good, and it'll be posted tomorrow if I have time.

I had a nice day today. We went swimming down at the Tri Leisure Center, then afterwords I got to go riding. I rode a dark bay gelding named Windy, he was awesome. Howdy.

I stole the computer from my uncle Mike a few minutes ago to find 230+ messages and almost 500 deviations. I deleted around 115 journals, so I'm sorry if I didn't comment on anything. I might be doing a bit of faving and running as well.

The wedding was yesterday and it was awesome. It was a quiet little western wedding with around 18 people at the ceremony. The men were all in their Wranglers, boots and cowboy hats. Everything went really well, Tammy and John (bride and groom) seemed really happy. Haha, we even got my Grandma to sit on the western saddle that was sitting on the bale of hay!! A little while after the ceremony was the reception and a lot more people starting showing up. We had steaks and potatoes and lots more food. My uncle Mike was the MC and little Spur helped him. There was some dancing, singing old country songs and just having fun.

This week I've been subjected to a lot of country music. I actually think I'm turning into a cowgirl. No joke, right now I'm wearing my Wrangler jeans, my plaid button up shirt and a belt with a big belt buckle. I might be staying for a week more, we'll see. I think I'm going riding tomorrow with some friends.

Ohhai.

So, we arrived in Edmonton yesterday around noonish. The flight was good, I found episodes of The Office so I was happy. The time change was a little disorienting, but I'm getting used to it. I love it here though, lots of horses and farmland.... canola fields EVERYWHERE. They're like big yellow seas of canola.

We went shopping today at Wal Mart and West Edmonton Mall. I got a bit of a trim on my hair for the wedding. I bought a lot of clothes... some Wrangler bootcut jeans, some jeans from Bootlegger, a few tops and got some laces for my riding boots.

It's nice to see some family I haven't seen for a while... we're getting ready for the wedding on Saturday and going out a lot, so I'm sorry if I don't respond to messages often enough. My message center is already filled up... 244 deviations and I had over 120 messages before I cleaned it out.

5 days until I leave for Alberta! I'm going to see my aunt and my cousin who is getting married! I will be gone for a week, but I will probably have internet access so you'll still be able to get a hold of me if need be.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

So summer's in full swing now. Staying up late, sleeping in even later, comfy clothes and finishing art! I've been working on a few pieces so hopefully they will be finished soon. My trade with =TheGreatandMightyOz is going fairly well, though I'm not liking the background... I might start it in digital instead. I also have a picture of a thoroughbred in the works. I'm sure we all know about critiquing. It's essential to improve and it helps us realize what we could improve on and helps us get better. I personally love getting constructive crits on my art, because sometimes there will be something wrong with it.. but I can't find the exact problem myself. Yet there are still lots of people who don't like critiques and feel like their art is being put down when critiqued.

deviantART is a site for artists to post art and receive feedback on it. There's this neat little feature where you can request critiques, but this is only for payed subscribers. You can use it to request formal critiques from other subscribers. But, some people on this site do not feel the need for any critique, apparently they wouldn't like to improve. I've heard people say that they get offended when a less experienced artist critiqued their work. I totally don't get that.. just because someone doesn't have the same artistic ability as you, does NOT mean that they can't see flaws in your art that you may not have noticed. I actually find it really rude that someone would only accept critiques from people who are at the same artistic level or higher than they are.

Again, dA is a community where people strive to become better, where artists help other artists to improve their art. If you don't want your art critiqued then don't post it on deviantART! Go get a website (you can a free one at freewebs.com or something like that) and post your art there, hey.. you don't even have to get a comment feature if you're scared that someone will hurt your feelings with their critiques. Honestly, if you're going to post your work here, then realize that not everyone is going to love or be amazed by your art. There are going to be people who see flaws in your work and want to point them out to you, whether they are trying to help or just being rude about it.

This isn't directed at any particular person, just a thought I've had for a long while now. Let me know what your thoughts are on this topic.

My last exam was on Monday. I think it went pretty well, I struggled a bit with the electricity portion but the ecology/astronomy and chemistry parts went well. I have an Exam Review day tomorrow, where I go to the school and get all my marks. A little nervous.. but oh well.

So today I received this:

in the mail! *mustang-thunder sent it to me, and I love it!! It looks wonderful in person.. you should see the details! I'm going to try to get a frame and a matte to hang it up on my wall. Thanks again!

Yesterday I made some money helping my dad with his furniture store, so he took me to Curry's afterwards. I bought some more pigment liners, a new eraser, a larger sketchbook and a couple little 4 by 6 canvases. We were looking at drafting tables since I mentioned I would like one someday.. and we found one on sale for $99! My dad talked to the sales clerk and they told us it was missing a foot.. no big deal.. but somehow my dad managed to buy it off them for $75!! It was a pain in the butt to set up... but it's so nice to draw on!

Toronto devMEET on Friday! I don't think I'll be able to go unless I can get a ride with a friend or something. Hopefully I'll get something set up.

Happy Father's Day! (and Happy Aboriginal Day too!)

Only one exam left; science. I asked my friends who had their science exam already and they said it wasn't hard. Sorry for lack of art, I have some things I'm working on right now. But I haven't finished anything since I've been hanging out with my friends everyday after exams. I'm so tired. Kicked some butt on drums on Rockband last night though.

Polly went to go see her 'cousins' today. My mom's boyfriend's sister has two dogs, a rottweiler and a lab. I didn't go, cause I was so tired from partying last night. But, my mom took lots of pictures and it looks like Polly had fun. She's lying on the couch right now sleeping.

For those who care, that contest I entered sent me back my entry. Which means I didn't win. I'm not too bummed about it though, because I really liked that drawing and now I get to hang it up in my room!

So today was my last day of school! I still have my exams to do, but this was my last real school day.
In music, we watched Goldmember and some of Grease, my music teacher is awesome. And in gym we all went to my gym teacher's house and went swimming. It was really fun. Spent my lunch break with all my friends as usual.. I'm really gonna miss you guys. At least I'm going to a few parties soon. Ryan's on Saturday.. Natasha's two weeks away... Diandra's, I don't know and Lindsey should be having her birthday soon too! So.. I guess I will be seeing them a lot.

Yesterday I had my music playing exam. I honestly thought I was going to get a bad mark, there's this one part in the song where it's really high with Fs and E naturals. But, I managed to get a 94%. How? Don't ask. Finished my owl pellet as well, I asked my teacher if I could keep it and he said I could. Gosh, I'm such a dork.

I've got my written music exam tomorrow, math on Thursday, health on Friday.. weekend to study and then science on Monday. So, yeah I need to get studying!

Huzzah, my mom bought me another 3 month subscription. Thanks mom!

Last night was Buskerfest. I went over to my friend Ryan's house with Julia, Turner and Brandon after school. We watched Family Guy for a bit, then we headed over to where we were meeting the rest of our friends. We walked around for a while, checking out the stores and buskers etc. Some pretty cool stuff there. There was this angel that would pose like a statue, we were trying to get the guys to pose for a picture with her but they were too chicken. Julia and I checked out the little art store and we saw Sarah Joncas there. Her art is so cool: [link] She's a local artist and she was sitting outside the art gallery with some of her paintings. It was cool. Around 8:00 we went over to the brewhouse with Diandra's older sister Kayla. Her boyfriend was in the band that was playing at the restaurant. We devoured a plate of wings and nachos. Around 10 ish Julia, Ryan and I went back to his house and waited until my mom picked Julia and I up. Then we dropped Julia off and went home. I was sooo tired. But it was a blast!

Been working on homework and art all day. Still need to finish more science and health work. And to top it all off I've got over 700 deviations to go through.

First day of June! Really makes me want summer even more... School is painful to sit through some days, and I really want to just hang out and draw, sleep and just relax. I still have exams to get through along with some other final stuff. Just had a science test today and a 12 minute run for gym class. I've got to practice a solo on the flute for my music exam, study like crazy so that my math mark will get better, finish a fitness sheet for gym and study for science. I can't wait for summer, my friends and I are all planning to go the the beach and hang out.

I've gotten 5 requests for trades already. Sorry if you didn't get one this time. But I will open them again once I'm less busy.

After finishing my newest deviation: [link] I think I will go back and finish some things with it. The colour overall seems a bit too repetitive. Thanks to :decopperdragonart: for pointing that out. Also my dad pointed out a few things to fix so I will go back and finish those soon. I will definitely be drawing more canines in the future, they're so fun! Maybe even some new canine characters.

Ahhhh, New Moon trailer. I love it. Looks like its going to be way better than Twilight. I think the fact that Jake is in it more will make me actually like the movie. Team Jacob all the way. I love the bit at the end where he transforms.

Today was a half day at school so I went over to my friend, Mica's house.
We hung out for a bit inside, then we headed over to the paddock to clean it out and bring the horses in. After cleaning so... much.. horse... crap we brought Buddy and Rudy in and groomed them. Then we tacked them up.. much to their disapproval. Buddy's tack still hasn't arrived so we had to attach two lead ropes together as reins.

Anyways! I got up on Rudy first. It felt soooo nice. I haven't ridden in so many months, yet it felt so natural and comfy. He tends to not move until he spooks. So we were walking around the ring and something (a bird I think) spooked him and he bolts a little and bucks a few times before he calmed his butt down. I managed to stay on though, quite proud if I must say. Mica's little sister Fawn (who's 5 I think) managed to trot Buddy by herself with a halter and lead ropes for reins. She's never had a lesson or anything.

After we went riding we went back to the house and played Rock Band and went on the climber with all of Mica's siblings. Then we had dinner and went out to the kids' baseball game. It started raining near the end so we headed over to Dairy Queen and ate some ice cream.

Such a fun day!

Also, we've been dissecting owl pellets in science class. If you don't know what an owl pellet is.. go Google it or something. I found two vole skulls in mine. I think I'm one of the only people in my class that's actually enjoying this. Apart from the fact that my lab partner doesn't really care/is grossed out.. it's okay. I don't really talk to him anyway so it's good. We get to lay all the skeletal pieces out on Monday!

Slowly working my way through.. 338 deviations. I watch too many people..

My school is getting students to submit art so that in can be featured in the art show at the gallery in town near my school. I'm planning on submitting something, but I don't know if I will be able to have a new piece ready for Monday. Any suggestions on some older artwork that you think would be nice to submit would be appreciated.

Yesterday I was working on adding more details to that picture of the Easter Kingbird and I decided to start a little headshot of Alyra on the same paper. I used my prismas for the first time in a while. I really forgot how much I like them! I'll scan and upload the picture as soon as possible.

Thursday, my friends and I went down to the graveyard by our school at lunch (NO we're not some creepy kids, it's just not crowded with kids) and had a water fight. The guys all brought water guns and we all wore our bathing suits and it was a blast! I was too busy trying not to get soaked to take any pictures. Good times...

Exams are coming up, I'm planning on studying as soon as possible so I'll get some decent marks.

Alright, so as most of you may know.. my friend Mica was the owner of Jackie.. who passed away recently. But, good news! Just today I went to go see her new horse Rudy! He's a 5 year old chesnut thouroughbred gelding. He's really sweet and very good looking. He's got a white star on his forehead and a random white spot on his rump. His mane is also really awesome.. parts are sun bleached so it's dark near the roots and gets lighter, super pretty! He seems to get along well with Buddy for the most part, but he is a little annoyed when Buddy gets more attention than he does. Multiple times, Rudy chased after Buddy to get more attention. I got some nice pictures of him which I will post on ~chesnut-tobiano after I upload/edit them.

Another funny thing, he used to be a racehorse. His first race.. he came in dead last. Never raced again!

Sorry for lots of journal updates. I just really wanted to tell you guys. I'm so excited!

Ahhh, formal is tomorrow night. I'm going with a bunch of friends. Haha, I didn't feel like going out and buying a new dress so I'm just wearing my black skinny jeans with this really pretty silver top. Stupid thing is... it's on a Thursday night and it goes until 11:00. People are saying that the principal didn't want it on a Friday night because more people would get drunk.. apparently. Drinking is dumb anyways.

About the contest:
I'm thinking of extending it until next weekend. Because I don't feel up to judging and everything today, plus there were more people planning on entering (I think). So yeah, contest deadline extended to Saturday May 16th for all interested.

Sorry for not keeping up with my messages lately. I haven't been feeling the greatest and going on the computer is not the most fun thing to do right now. I feel impatient and bored when I'm going through messages especially in the last few days. So I'm going to make more of an effort to not be on the computer all the time. It really drains me. Also the weather is really nice and its been getting warmer.

I went to the art store last night and got a few things. Some coloured paper (green, brown, black and gray), some blank cards for mother's day and other stuff and a white pencil crayon. I've already started a piece on the black sheet of paper of a zebra! Once it's done I'll post it. I've also got some eye sketches that I did on the gray paper.

My mom let me take her nice camera and get a few shots around the house and in the backyard. Once I get those all edited they will be posted on ~chesnut-tobiano.

Lastly, =gallopracer's horse Houston was put down. It's a really sad thing to hear and I am planning on making a picture for her of Houston. Go give her some love. We all know how it feels to lose a loved animal. I still miss Jackie.

The contest was due to be over tonight, but I don't know if I'm up to judging and everything this weekend. Plus more people are still entering I think. I think I might postpone it til next weekend. I'll let you guys know in the morning.

I got back from the 28 hour famine at my school an hour ago. Starting at 8:00 AM yesterday we were to eat nothing until noon today. The idea was to pledge donations and stay at the school and starve ourselves to learn about how it feels to not eat for a long period of time. It was hard but I kept thinking to myself 'There are people who live like this everyday! Not knowing when they will eat next.' That's pretty much what kept me going for most of it. Also my friends being there to hang out with helped too. ~ilytoo, ~liliyabbx, ~GargleSnarfBlack, ~alycia666 and ~ashmuffin were all there along with some other friends. I had a lot of fun and it definitely taught me something. PLUS we get 10 volunteer hours for it! The school raised almost $8,000!!! All the money went to Free The Children.

No homework this weekend except studying for a math test so some art will most likely be finished!

^{DARN. I had a really long journal all typed out... and my Firefox decided to just turn off randomly. And usually I can just 'Restore Previous Session' and it will still be there... but nope.. not this time. Goshdarnit.
Anyways, I'll try to retype what I had so far.

First day was lots of driving. I mean LOTS. 7 hours to Ohio from Ontario. We arrived at the highschool where we were to play and be adjudicated. I'm pretty sure we did well. Most of the other bands were just grade 8 bands and ours was the only all high school band. After that we got to our hotel, unpacked and slept.

Next was King's Island. Basically Canada's Wonderland just the rides had different names. I only went on two or three rides. Honestly, I can't remember. I hung out with my guy friends and Chrissy all day. Fun times. I ended up buying a dragonfly mood necklace for myself, a fridge magnet for my grandma and a mug for my mom. We stayed pretty late.. until like 10:30. Then we went to Wal Mart and bought random crap since some people forgot stuff. For me it was shampoo and conditioner.

Then the next day we had a performance at Fountain Square in Cincinnati. Halfway throught Lord of the Dance, I glanced over my shoulder and saw two policepeople () on horses! Of course I begged my music teacher to let me go and pet them. The puppy dog pout worked! I got some nice shots and the horses were really sweet. After the performances we went shopping for a bit and I ended up in an elevator with my one friend going up and down.. and up and down. After that we went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville.

The day after we went to the Grand Ole Opry House! I'm not a fan of country music.. but it was still really cool. We went backstage and everything. Then we went to the Grand Opry Mills for a performance in the mall. The acoustics were AMAZING. Shopping afterwards... gooood times.

The next day we headed over to the Mardi Gras warehouse, where we got to see the Mardi Gras floats and costumes. I have SO many pictures. It was really cool, the time and effort that goes into it all is amazing. At the gift shop I obviously bought some beads.. how could I not? Then we had dinner and went back to the hotel.

French Quarter shopping!! Went with the guys again since Chrissy (:devlilyabbx ditched me! Just joking.. luff yah Chrissy. Had some fun there and got some pictures taken with some street performers. When we were done there we went on a gator tour. So much fun! Lots of gnats tho. Another fun day!

MORE French Quarter shopping, but with Marissa and Colin instead. We went to Cafe Du Monde and the French Market. Again I spent too much. After that, Preservation Hall! So awesome! Our group got a private show... so great.

Jazz Fest on the next day. Lots of money spent on food of course. We listened to some bands and basically just people watched all day. Fairly uneventful but fun nonetheless. Then, that ni...}

Tomorrow I'm leaving from my school for my 9 day trip to the states. I'm going to Cincinnati Ohio, Nashville Tennessee and New Orleans Louisiana. We're leaving at around 2:00 pm tomorrow and getting all the instruments and everything packed. I'm so excited! A lot of my friends are coming and my one friend and I will be playing Pokemon on the bus ride there! x)

So yes, no updates until I get back, which will be on Sunday at around 11:00 I think.. or later. I'm going to bring my sketchbook and stuff so I might get some sketches done but I make no promises.

I'm going to make more of an effort to write less journals. Personally I find it annoying when I find my inbox full of journals.. since I don't want to be a hyprocrite, I'm gonna work on not blabbing about random crap no one cares about anyways.

My dad got me a new sketchbook! Huzzah! It's really nice, heavyweight paper, slighty textured surface, 8.5' by 11'. It's thick so I can use my watercolour pencils to their full ability!

The trip to the states is in 5 days! I'm so excited, it's gonna be a blast. I'm almost done packing too, just need to get a couple things from stores.

If you didn't already know.. my contest is ending on May 9th. If you're one of the people who said they're going to enter I highly suggest you start working on your entry soon, because it can be a pain to start an entry the day before a contest ends. Believe me, personal experience.

We went shopping a few days ago, I got some new shorts and tank tops and a couple books. Eragon and Eldest! I'm excited to start reading them.. but I'm going to wait until I finish Harry Potter so I don't get too overwhelmed. I have a thing where I end up reading like 5 books at once and never finishing them...

I have some time to finish some trades and stuff so I'll go do that now. Bye!

GAH! Art issues.
I went into Photoshop today, planning to work on some WIPs, etc. but my tablet decides that it doesn't want to work! Come on, I just installed a new driver like 2 weeks ago. Ugh, I guess I'll check out the Wacom site and see if I need to install yet another driver.

Also! My sketchbook is all filled up. And no.. I can't draw on the other sides of the pages.. the pencil always rubs off and ruins the other picture. So maybe sometime this week I'll be able to go out and buy a new one. *lesigh*

Yeah.. so people who I owe things to.. might take a while until they are finished.. sorry! I hope you can be patient with me.

I had something else to say, but I forgot. Oh well!

Happy Easter everyone! I have a little Easter themed picture which I will most likely post tomorrow if it's finished.

Shopping yesterday was so much fun! We went to my favourite art store, a gift shop which sells a bunch of oriental goodness, Harmony.. a store selling incense, yoga stuff and hemp goods and Ardene.. a clothing/hair accessory/jewelery store. I got lots of cool stuff;
-an awesome Pokemon poster!
-a Squirtle toy
-Japanese stickers
-a wooden and hemp necklace
-one of those feather hair band things

and lots of other fun stuff!
Overall.. great day~!

Today, I slept in.. had breakfast, ate some Easter chocolates, tidied my room, worked on some art, helped Mom with dinner, had an awesome dinner with my mom, went to my dad's, played board games and .. yeah! Another fun day.

Edit: My budgy passed away. It's really sad, I only knew him for a little while. Hopefully he's in a better place.
I wanted something a little more simple. One day I want to figure out how to make my own CSS (well) so I don't have to search around for a good one to use.

Lots of new news.

On the 24th of April I am leaving for a music trip with my school! We are going to Cincinnati, New Orleans and Nashville!! I'm so excited! We'll be taking a bunch of coach buses to all the different places and staying in different hotels. We're getting a backstage tour of the Grand Opry House, heading to the Hard Rock Cafe and many other musical places. Only 17 more days! Even more exciting, my friend and I will be playing Pokemon on the bus nonstop! LOL.

Another exciting thing; I got a budgy today! He is so cute and yes I am sure it's a he, he's got the blue part on the top of his beak. I haven't got a name for him yet.. but once I get to know him a little better I'll have one. He has a yellow head and a green stomach and little black and yellow stripes on his wings and back. I luff him so much. He's quite polite too, only bites if you move your finger too quickly near his head. We went to the pet store today and bought him some Pretty Bird feed pellets, a cuttlebone and some food/water dishes. I hope to get some little treats for him soon.

ALSO, my mom has joined deviantART! She is into photography and I must say... she is super fantastic! Only two deviations so far, but I shall bug her into getting more photos up. If you're reading this, Mom, know that I will not stop bothering you until you have a nice sized gallery. Some thumbs are at the bottom.
Awesome, eh?! She's got tonnes more to upload. I assure you.

My mom just came home from Staples and brought me an amazing, completely recycled notebook. Thing is, I have no clue what to write in it. It's just so empty and beautious... curses!

As of lately, I've been reading the Harry Potter series. I'm almost done the third book (Prisoner of Azkaban), I've only got one chapter left! Huzzah! So I decided to do a little fan art. Well, actually not little more like 27 by 38 centimeters. I think I'll post a WIP soon so you all can critique the crap out of it so I can improve. I don't draw humans a lot so this is good practice for me. There's a total of 8 floating heads, one snowy owl (Hedwig), a cat (Crookshanks), a dementor's hand and an elf (Dobby). Harry is in the middle (of course) being all high and mighty and what not. As usual! I have all the 'bad guys' on the left side of Harry's huge head and then all the 'good guys' on the right.
Bad Guys consist of:
Voldemort
Random Dementor hand
Draco Malfoy
Peter Pettigrew
and Dobby is lurking under them, because I don't know where else to put him.
Good Guys consist of:
Dumbledore
Hermione
Ron
Hagrid
and Sirius
And then Hedwig is at the top and Crookshanks at the bottom.
If I can figure out how to get this huge piece of paper in my scanner then it shall be good, but if not my trusty camera will have to do for now.

Random, but when my mom was at Staples, she also bought a paper cutter.
It's fantastic! You can cut a straight line, a wavy line, AND A PERFORATED LINE! Now I will be able to make... coupons? LOL.

I wanted a new CSS since spring is here. I love elephants. The navigation bar above is a little messed up though, I'll see if I can fix it later.

I have a band performance at a church later today. I'm such a spaz, I forgot my flute at school so I have to borrow ~ilytoo's flute. Since it's not mine I should probably try it out just to get used to it so I'm not freaking out at the performance today.

ALSO, I have no clue when to end my contest! What do you guys think? I know some of you voted in my last poll that you haven't started yet () so if you could get started soon, that'd be great. I don't want to leave the deadline too long.

This week's gone by really quick, eh? I'm kind of thankful for that though. I had a math test today and I've got a music playtest and a health test tomorrow. The zoo was awesome! We got to go behind the scenes and feed the animals and stuff. I fed a pygmy hippo. She was adorable! Camera issues as always, I didn't get that camera.. but I used my dad's. Until the card was full and the battery decided to die. So I had to use my dad's friend's camera. It was nice of her to let me use it.. but I'm not so sure with how the pictures came out. I'll see soon enough though.

I finished my half of the trade with *mustang-thunder. I'll scan it tomorrow night and post it. I'm happy with how it came out, I'm hoping you guys will like it too. Alimah is such a pretty character to draw.

School is starting next week. March Break went by too fast! Going out with my mom today to take some photos by the bay front. See you later!

Spring

It's so nice out today. I decided to go find my bike and head out for a bike ride. I went down the path through the forest behind my house. There were a few birds sitting on the path, turns out they were robins. I suppose this means Spring is coming soon! I'm so happy, Winter is nice and all but it's so depressing!

Camera

I think I've found the camera I want! It's the Canon Powershot SX10 IS. One of the nicest point and shoots right now.

It's $400-$450 at the stores, so I think we're going to go tonight so I can buy one! I'm so excited!!!

Zoo

So tomorrow, some friends and I are going to the zoo! My dad's friend has a son who works at the zoo so we'll be able to get a back stage tour! We're going to get to see animals that aren't viewed by the public and get inside tours of the exhibits. It's going to be so fun. And if I get my camera, I should be able to get some amazing photos too!

Cameras

Okay, so I have all this money that I've saved up for the past year.. around $580.00. I orginally wanted to buy a new laptop, but I really don't see the point because we just got a new PC. SO, now I'm thinking that I would like to get a nice camera.

If anyone has any suggestions for a nice camera for around $500, let me know. I'm willing to spend a little more if it's a good deal, but nothing too expensive. Thanks in advance!

Zoo

Since it's March Break, my dad and I are probably going to the zoo for a day. I want the new camera so I can take some good pictures, seeing as I don't know where I put my other one.

Party Time

I have a pretty busy weekend, so all my art is being postponed until this week, huzzah! Today was ~ilytoo's birthday party, we hung out in her basement, played Sing Star, danced, ate pizza and various other random/fun things. Tomorrow my friend Diandra is having her birthday party. We're going to her place for pizza then all going to the movies to see either Race to Witch Mountain or Taken. I got to see some friends I haven't seen in awhile at Naomi's party today. Fun times, but now I'm really tired.

New CSS

I know, I know! I change my journal CSS too much, but it's too fun. This one is by =kuschelirmel-stock. Took forever and a day to figure out all the coding, images, etc. but I think I looks nice. Perhaps if I have time I'll edit one of my photos so it can go up there in the header. But, right now I'm too lazy to open up Photoshop and do that.

Lack of Inspiration

I tried to sketch out Alimah for the trade I'm doing with *mustang-thunder but everything I sketched out turned out like crap! It's so frustrating, I must have done three different poses and they all sucked. I might try to restart it again, but I make no promises! Sorry if it takes awhile to get done.

PS: Has anyone heard of Dubarry boots? My mom saw some today at a Home & Garden show and they are so awesome! Completely waterproof and some are riding boots, but they are really expensive, here's their website: [link]
