An interesting quote was used to demonstrate Marx's theory that 'religion is the opium of the people" in politics today. It appeared something like what follows: "To those who have more shall be given and to those who don't have even what they have shall be taken away."
I found this rather provocative and proceeded to call out: "What kind of asshole said that?" Only to realised... "Jesus"

Looking at the original context of the verse it seems to be controversial mostly in the essence that it is missing this context. I think it's incrediably scary that the Bible can be so easily misused...especially considering that religious people view it as a soveriegn form of law, perhaps even above international/national laws. Thus the potential for abuse seems endless.

In Nigeria a Christian evangelical movement has become obsessed with the idea of child whitches and proceeds to exorcise the whitches by beating, starving and burning the falsly accused children. Most of these actions are motivated by greedy self-serving evangelicals, who in all fairness are financially and not religiously motivated, but this demonstrates how easily the Bible can be manipulated to serve malicious purposes.

Please feel free to disagree and debate or just share your own views with me

David Ho, “I've been called many things in my life, but I would fancy myself an artist first and foremost. After 10 years of working as a freelancer, I think creating art has become more of a necessity than anything. Productivity, a sense of immortality, an outlet for expression are but a few reasons”

Art, a necessity? I concur! I find myself going slightly insane if a whole day passes without an expression of creativity.

You can see David Ho’s work here:
[link]
very interesting!

At least five foreigners have been killed and seven injured since the Western Cape provincial government began reintegrating victims of xenophobic attacks into their former communities." - [link]

Yet more disappointing news! And some people are ignorant enough to believe that xenophobia is really a thing of the past.

The United Africa Society - a High School based initiative to increase solidarity among African countries - is holding an art competition. The aims are to create an artistic response to the xenophobic violence in South Africa in the forms of prose, poetry and art. We are hoping to exhibit these works at the Cape Town Holocaust Museum. If you are a South African student and you’re interested in this project please ask me for more details
