I saw a beautiful piece of art work today that was highly referenced from a photograph from a website that has an extremely shady reputation. It reminded me yet again how many "traditional" medium artist truly disregard the copyrights of Photographers over and over and over again. Photographs on such sites as photobucket, MSN Groups, MySpace (unless Official photographer, model, actesses page), goggles images, yahoo images etc are often stolen images or NOT Free for use. google is scanning websites and has not right to give permission for use as a reference of to be used in a manipulation or derivative work. That is true for the rest of those site.
So yet again I find myself telling ALL Artists if you don't want your art work stolen WHY are YOU Stealing Others Work???
It's simple ASK! If the answer is No Respect it! There are plenty of terrific models and photographers that offer both Free and yes Sometimes paid for Stock work to be used as references and stock for manips and Derivatives without stealing the work of someone that isn't!
Alas I know I talking to a wall since DA policies Allow such Outright Theft and turn a blind eye. But if you are going to sell your work and make a profit off someone elses work the least you can do is ASK!

It's sad when Artists creating ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS must remind other said artists that Art is an Expression! That like religion and speech is a protected notion under our constitution in the US. Something that personally I think should be protected around the world.
What I find ridiculous is when a fellow artist seeks not to critique my artistic skills regarding photo-manipulation, painting, drawing with regards to color, lighting, composition, proportion but instead critiques my beliefs. Should I critique your religion, or lack of, your living style or marriage, your choice of hairstyles, clothing, car see the list can go on when we start attacking people personally when we critique art work based on beliefs as opposed to artistic skills.
I have read two excellent journals written this week by people I respect and care about talking also about acceptance of individual beliefs and choices. Mine is less well written but comes from being slammed not because the proportion was off on a piece of my work but because Oh My God had the nerve to create a FEMALE ANGEL!! WOW

Ok My BELIEF Since you WANT TO SLAM THEM is ANYONE can Evolve beyond who and what they are here. Be it angels, gods, spirits, whatever YOU want to call them. Why because yes I believe we all have souls and the soul is more powerful than the limited idea that only an asexual being never found on her can be that pure and good!!
But Guess what THAT IS MY BELIEF NOT Yours or his or hers or theirs mine and I Express MY Art the way I WANT TO!!
Go ahead Critique my skill but leave my character and my life and my beliefs out of it!!!
And I will not go critique with insults to yours or others religious beliefs cause believe you me I have heard them and could come up with some good ones to tick anyone in any religion off. Ya want to know why I do not critique peoples Art that way. Because it is THEIR Expression and like their beliefs theirs to express and believe and I have NO right to tell them not to!

For many today is about hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.
For many others it is about remembering, Thank you, Missing, Crying and sometimes moving on. It's Memorial Day in the US today. A time to remember All Those that have past not just the veterans, not just family members but all those that have gone before. For each person that remembers on this day it is a unique memory or memories to them. For each person they think on those they want to remember but the day is truly for all of us that has lost someone. Though for me I rarely see them as lost merely elsewhere gone on their journey. That's why I chose this image. To me it speaks of a journey not an end.

In memory for all those that have taken the journey to somewhere else.

You know a few months ago there was a terrific movement here on DA to Respect the Models. There was a statement issued that No Rude Crude and Lewd Comments would be allowed here.
Guess What! They powers that Be that can end this behavior LIED! They in fact told

a comment was not rude enough to do anything about. It was this exact type of tterly disrespectful comments that the artists and models wanted ended. OK it's a tad ridiculous the inconsistencies of the moderators here!
Stuff that is digitally painted is allowed to slide by without PORN label but photographs of exact same pose get booted for porn.
But for me worse is the acceptance of Fan art as original and traditional. ALL Fan art based on copyrighted materials needs to be placed in FAN Art!!
If you want, tell us where you think it should go; fanart Â» digital Â» painting Â» books Digital fan art paintings based on copyrighted material from books created using computer software to emulate traditional painting.
I have found Beatrix Potter, Laurel K. Hamilton and Lord of the Rings All in locations that are NOT FanArt! Come on people Consistency with copyright!! I love some of the fanart it is very well done HOWEVER it still should be ONLY in FANART the other moderators from the other categories need to be putting it over in fanart and the fanart moderator needs to realize that as well! Read Your Own GUIDELINES!!

OK I have loved bunnies since I was a child reading Beatrix Potter. Mine are completely different as are the ones in this feature except 1 that admits it was based on her work another is which I will NOT Show admits was COPIED!!! What my problem is that DA keeps on insisting on 1) ALLOWING Copied Works 2) Not PLacing COPIED Work in FAN ART If it is a Copy it CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE ANYTHING BUT FANART!!!
want to see it fine go look at the admitted copy and do me a favor report it as a MISCATEGORY maybe if Everyone starts reporting ALL Copies as Miscategories if they are NOT in FANART DA will get the HINT

June 1987 Told I flunked Senior I will not be graduating
January 1995 Took GED
March 1995 Given Scores, ceritificate & asked when I am going to college as I had states highest socialogy scores
Sept 1995 Start College
TODAY I recieved OFFICIAL Notice I not only earned my Associates in Arts-DTA but I did it as an Honors Graduate/Dean's List

I think that is Crow Worthy!!!

Life is funny. I have been showcasing art at my website for 8years now. In those 8years I have shown WITH THEIR Permission over 200artists! I have a rather extensive collection of prints and a much smaller collection of Originals. I admit some pieces I bought to help the artists, many pieces I bought because at the time I truly adored them. Most of those artists have evolved greatly over the years.
Today I want to feature here just a SMALL Sample of the art I have personally bought or been gift over the years that are also viewable here at DA. Many of the pieces in my collection are no longer viewable anywhere that I know of such is the age of this collection.
Why today... Because Today I received in the mail FINALLY After EIGHT Years the First Artwork That captured my attention of one of those artists. Life has a way of wandering and I had not purchased that print until recently though I have other prints from the same artist.

I was looking at files on my computer to share something with a friend and realized something about myself. How as much as I have changed some things remain the same. On that note I have post 2 photos of me and am running a simple contest.

If you think this is not true pick up a history book of just the 20th Century alone and see how close it really came. Not an ocean away. Look just south of the land you call home and Thank the veterns of this country and those that will be veterns when and if they have a chance to live after they leave service to you and this country!

This is a bit of Rant simple as that!
You know I have been taking photographs for nigh on about 25years! Never sold a single one not trying to quite honestly. But it gives me a perspective.
I am also the daughter of a professional photographer and photojournalist as well as grand-daughter of another ametuer artist giving me further perspective.
Between all of us there has to be well of a few MILLION Photographs we have taken nay MORE. Do you know how many I would credit as exceptional worthy of hanging framed on a wall. Probably a few hundred between all of us.
So what is my point in this. Simple When You find a Wonderful photograph you want to Draw, Paint, Edit, Manipulate, Sketch, practice with
DAMN WELL CREDIT THAT PHOTOGRAPHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they are ALIVE AND KICKING YOU BETTER Read their Rules OR ASK Them if their rules are NOT Clearly available. And Here's the Kicker KIDS and that goes for you "adults" still acting like Children in not crediting ... If it is in PRINTED Source be it a Magazine, CD Cover, Movie Cover, Book ASSUME IT IS COPYRIGHT PROTECTED AND NOT TO BE COPIED WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM THE COPYRIGHT OWNER!
It Does NOT Matter if you are using a different medium to copy it or make a derivative of it You are still using Copyright Protected Material so STOP DROP AND THINK ASK AND CREDIT!!!
Thank you to All of the worlds Wonderful Photographers Creating Beautiful Work That inspire the rest of the art world!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and If you Don't know the Name Try Taking the time to find out. Tonight I saw a great graphite work clearly based/copied from a photographer a famous gentlemen. It took me about 20-30mintues to find the source of that image with the name of the original photographer, current owner of the rights to it and the original publication it was in! 20-30mintes So guess what the EXCUSES STOP HERE! I see it I find the Source you bet your bottom dollar I will one let you know two let DeviantArt Know! So You might as well Start looking it up yourself and posting the information because guess what It's not only the law which you may not give a rats backside about nut it's also DeviantArt Policy!

Instead of speaking to closed minds I will speak here to those hopefully opened minded enough to get it.

I am at depth a submissive personality with a good sized Dose of Inner Strength that expects strength of those around me. I do not submit to to just anyone or any one sex. I in fact rarely submit at all except to very chosen loved ones. Being deeply submissive with a rock of Dominance I know that Dominance and submission is not about genitalia religious beliefs or even society. It is about something within us that seeks to please those we love and trust. It is about TRUST and Love. Whether you are born with a Penis or Vagina does not determine an order of submission and dominance. There are men and women both born with these traits. This is not a species specific thing either as there are Dom and sub in all species and again which is Dom and sub is not determined by genitalia they are born with. Much is the same for our attraction to other people. Our genitalia does not determine who we are attracted our hearts and minds do this.
So I ask and recommend to everyone to not look with Eyes wide shut but to Open Your hearts and minds to seeing that Dom and sub, attraction and love are based not on whether you were born male of female but your heart and mind. It is not something of instinct but of individual growth and beauty. I truly believe wisdom comes with an open mind and so too does love respect trust and submission and Dominance!
