Nimbus - SSC '13

Well, here it is! (finally!). My first submission in nearly 4 years that breaks the food naming scheme .

You might be thinking that this is a good ol Visual Style + TT + Litestep stack, but ohohoho you'd be very wrong.

My goal for this shot was to re-examine the fundamentals of an OS, and really see what would be possible if you broke all the rules. So I scrapped Litestep and explorer entirety for a completely custom build. Everything you see on-screen (save for the photographs) was hand-designed and hand-coded from scratch. It's Windows underneath, but a completely different beast on top.

Nimbus is a shell replacement & app suite that I'm prototyping for large and small screens. The whole thing is scripted in javascript and styled with standard webtech (css + html). This means that everything, everything from the taskbar, to the icons, to the apps and windows themselves are built from the ground up with html, styled with css, and scripted with javascript.

Using websockets, the shell actually syncs across devices in realtime, so you can move an app running on your desktop to your mobile, just as if your laptop and smartphone were running the same operating system, connected to the same hardware. You can even set it so that your actions on the phone are mirrored (more-or-less) 1:1 on the desktop. The UI is designed so that cross-platform interactions make sense. This is especially nice when using the music & video apps (sit back, and control with your phone ).

In terms of usability: It's a prototype shell. It breaks more often than not, especially when you have multiple devices trying to sync with each other. One great thing about this shell, however, is that it runs seamlessly alongside your existing OS, so I've been running it on its own desktop alongside my normal Windows 7 install. I was hoping to upload the mobile shot of the shell too, but I haven't been able to make it pretty yet.

The shell is very much pre-alpha, but it's currently running on iPhone, Android, Windows 7, Ubuntu, and (probably OSX ). Basically, if your device can run a webkit capable browser (preferably chrome), it will run. My goal is to get litestep-levels of customization on all platforms (desktop & mobile) and most basic apps. That release is still a far from happening, but this is the real first step in showing that it's a feasible idea! I'm super happy with the way this turned out and am happy to share it with you guys first

PotPlayer skin PreMod Beta

A skin for Daum PotPlayer.

An early version of PreMod, the original skin is called Premo [link] made by
Released with his kind permission.

This skin only works with Direct 3D 9 enabled.

The .zip contains 6 different "Always on top" versions with 3 different borders and 2 different colours (Grey and the original Premo). Not sure what colour the final version will be yet...Testing, testing...

To do list: Hover-over versions, add bookmark and A-B indicators, change vol and timeline buttons ( ? ), non-Direct 3D 9 version hmmm ( Very much work just to keep XP people happy..surely there are enough PotPlayer skins for that dinosaur ).

Feel free to add suggestions in the comments, I need inspiration.

To personalize the QuickSearch icon, click the default one > Options > Custom bitmap > ... browse for the Slate icon (quicksearch_icons.bmp) placed in your foobar2000 folder (program or profile one, depending of your foobar2000 installation mode as discribed step 1.)

Additionnal tasks: configure Shpeck visualisation plugin (File>Preferences>Visualisations>Shpeck). You may have to set some other useful features, like "Cursor follows Playback" (menu "Playback") ...

Final version of the previously known 'Ichigo Pistachio for Windows 7' visual style.
Now including 6 colors variations! Yay!

ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 7!

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Extract the folder named 'Visual Style' from the .zip archive to your desktop.

2. Go to the C:WindowsResourcesThemes directory

3. Open the 'Visual Style' folder located on your desktop, select the whole contents of this folder, then move them to the 'Themes' directory opened just before.

4. Now, right-click on your desktop, select 'Personalize' (or any corresponding word for non-English systems), and finally select one of your favorite colors of the Toybox series!

5. After that, pick your favorite picture on your computer as your desktop background (unless if you want a blank colored background)!

♪ Note: If you never used any third-party visual styles on your computer before, you need to patch your system files or the themes will not work properly!

Classic AE 2.5.2 (Blue) for Windows 7

A Classic visual style with Aero enhancements.

Four versions included are standard, flat menus (FM), alternate menus (AM) and alternate flat menus (AFM).

Update (01/11/2013) New substyles with alternate menus (AM), and alternate flat menus (AFM).
Alternate menus have vertical separators, a "gutter" section and different spacing than the Classic AE menus. See the enclosed images for reference.
Ideal for Firefox users as it fixes some minor alignment issues with the browser's drop-down menus, or just for a different menu experience altogether.

Untitled Suite - WIP

It's been a very long time since I posted something so I figured I'd upload a little work in progress I'm doing. It's a suite that would consist of a Litestep theme, a VS, some rainmeter configs and other bits and bobs. At this stage it's just a mockup but I hope to make it a reality when I get some time.

Update 01/03/12: Decided to change it quite a bit and removed the orange to make it work better with wallpapers of any colour palette. I also added a fancy bar that should contain everything you might wanna know just by taking a quick look I think it looks better but as always I wanna hear what you guys think?

The files were tested on Windows 7 SP1, they work just fine.
Fixed changing User tile size while switching through the users list;

For those wondering why I have removed the "little man loading icon", and status text it's because of a glitch in the 4074 code, when rendered on top of Windows 7 executable code. I also tried changing the rendering classes for the image to display properly, but that didn't help either.

I really adore the Windows Areo interface, I've just never been a fan of W7 themes that hinder the usability of Windows 7. So The direction and style that I follow are the Areo styles, and not the minimal styles. My aim is for usability, and not taking away from that.

I don't know if i'll make this for W7, because much of this design looks very familiar to `ap-graphik's Windows 8 design [link]. I just wanted to give it the Windows 7 feel.

Anyways, keep a look out if this comes out.

UPDATE: I've studied the LockScreen and changed the Location of Unlocking. I've also added HideTaskbar for "extra" security. The unlocking issue is also fixed and the custom name is hidden. Hover on the bottom left corner to see!

This is my first skin and it is a Windows 8 lock screen (Imitation) for Rainmeter. It is a wallpaper slideshow that can show you the date and what user is on at the computer. It also has a code unlocker that can be set in the config. Default code is 1234

Betelgeuse is the name for a big star from Orion constellation. The intention of this project is to create a complete, modern, clean and eye-candy icon theme for the KDE Desktop Environment.

Here aren't all but the more decent icons (I guess). There's a lot of work to do and I dont' have time. If you want to help or make a donation, please leave me a note, start by doing a branch for my git repo or send me a mail.

Or just share your suggestions! Hope you like it and excuse me for my bad english.

INSTALL

You can download the zip file and extract it under ~/.kde4/share/icons/, or clone the git repo doing:

CONTRIBUTE

There's a lot of work to do. You will notice, for example, there's no icons for 16x16, 22x22 or 24x24, so there's a fake raster to fill them with bigger icons. Feel free to contribute to developing it! You can do it at some ways:

1. Creating and editing icons. If you think you've skills at icon designing and you know what Inkscape is (Thanks Karbon, your boolean operations with paths is a pain in the ass) you could help with it. You can clone the git repo at

and starting designing icons or make the changes you think they need.

Please DON'T make/edit and publish any icon as a standalone work. I will give credits for all people that help with it, the idea is to keep this project unified as much as we can.

Please DON'T use any SVG filters, masks, blur and crap like that. It makes them uncompatible with QtSVG. Please follow as much as you can the style of icons.

2. Donating money. I'm just a poor graphic design student, seriously. I'm not receiving any cent, neither for this work. I even don't have any bank account so anybody could donate money via paypal. If somebody know how people can make donations so them can come here to Bogota (Colombia) please tell me. And a tablet would be very appreciated: Drawing with a creepy mouse is too hard. Or if you have a better computer and want to donate it... But even any buck would be very appreciated.

3. If you know about shell scripting, you can help by fixing the build.sh file. I don't know too much about that and it could get better.

4. Reporting issues, broken links and so on.

5. Telling me your suggestions, ideas, complainments, insults and so on. Feedback is very appreciated.

Working fine in Windows Vista/7, sorry users with XP or below, the Win7Audio-Plugin in Rainmeter doesn't work with your OS

In case blue isn't your color, just middle-click anywhere on the skin and you'll be able to set the color of the slider to anything you want (Thanks to JSMorley's RainRGB).

As I noticed working on one suite takes quite a lot of time I decided to do another type of suite. I'll release a few skins that share the same design and eventually will be a suite stand-alone. There's no particular time-frame or anything, I'm just doing these when I got some time.

And don't worry - I'm still working on Dastey, but it's going to be one big suite that I won't release skin-by-skin as with this one.
