Visited family over the weekend and my grandmother had bought a 30x40" canvas for me to paint something on so she could hang it over her fireplace. She wanted something colorful for the spring and summer so we looked through pics she had taken of flowers around the house.
Had fun working loosely with the brightest colors in my palette

Edit 8-30: Yes guys, I know, don't look into the operational end of the device.

Chell from Portal 2. I want to draw a neat picture of GLaDOS too, but it's slow going since I'm not used to drawing robots.

EDIT: Uploaded bigger version. Edit 2: Lessened the shadows on Chell, and I'm much happier with the result. EDIT 5/23: Properly lessened the opacity of the reflected blue light on Chell. I was wondering though, should it be orange..?

EDIT 6/21/2011: Changed the gun color to blue, added in the white of the gun that I forgot, neatened up a few things.

And well, Portal, being made by Valve, available on Steam? It just kind of needed to be done.

FAQ : What is O Ka-Fée ?

O Ka-Fée is the term concerning all my paintings done with coffee. It concerns the way of painting and of obtaining textures with coffee. It's about projections of coffee, which once in stains on the sheet, undergo injections of pigments. (Powder, colorex, watercolor.)

Textures realized by coffee by drying (more or less sweetened) are unique, they are more interesting than those realized with water.
The coffee is a rather complex medium has to master, it's necessary to know its reactions to be able to manipulate it with pigments, we learn it every day.

O Ka-Fée also concern my graphic style and the whole universe which gets free of it. It's for that the term is protected by copyright.

FAQ : Qu'est ce que O Ka-Fée ?

O Ka-Fée est le terme concernant mes peintures réalisées avec pour base de café. Il s'agit de la manière de peindre et d'obtenir des textures réalisées par le café. Dans un premier temps ce sont des projections de café dans lesquelles ensuite on injecte des pigments. (Poudres, colorex, aquarelle.)

Les textures réalisées par le café (plus ou moins sucré et selon la marque.) sont uniques, elles sont plus fortes et intéressantes que celles réalisées avec l'eau.

Le café est un médium complexe a maitriser, il est important de connaître ses réactions afin de les manipuler avec les pigments, on en apprend tous les jours de part ce médium.

O Ka-Fée concerne aussi mon univers et style graphique, ce sont souvent des peintures et univers libres, avec du mouvement et de la poésie.

Guys, I decided to make a major edit on this one with the planet texture of the biggest one. Hope you won't be mad at me...

With this one, I tried to conceptualize what really I have in mind when I'm talking about a Matte Spacing piece. This is a pretty dark Matte painting, I know. It is kind of my mood of the moment but I think it really reflects a space sci-fi scene melted with a pretty futuristic New York city.

I hope you guys will enjoy it. Comments always welcome.
All stocks are mine, except for the planet texture [link] I shall credit my step-brother as well for his pics from NY, all the rest is self-made in CS3 in 2D only.

Woosh! More then a year on this one. I've got to admit that I lost the file and in a clean up I found it and finished it. Everything is painted with the default round standard Photoshopbrush. All I had was penpressure on size and opacity.
The painting started on a sketch of *elsevilla and in the process, it went it's own way. Hector deleted the sketch, so I really hope he still has it and reposts it.

Backdoor Into Luxuriance

Oil paint on canvas - 80x120 cm.
Bizarrely, that word .. Luxuriance... had been running in my head for days like an intriguing leitmotiv, and painting it out seemed the most natural and only way to shut the voice.
_{Here is a painting I finished in january after 3 months of daily efforts. I've forced myself to paint everyday, despite the usual overwork at 2Roqs.
For once this painting isn't about a deep worry I may have had, it is more simple in the meaning. Instead, I've explored domains quite new to me: for instance, I've plunged almost the whole painting into penumbra to allow a brighter light to fall down on the hand.
I worked out the movement and the body language. The weird cropping of the girl should produce a disequilibrium that contradicts her course. On her face, I tried to display an expression of joyful surprise mixed with a bit of worry.}

now.. this is a quite personal piece for me.. It started with a topic from Sketchoholic..'Ghosts' (Daniela Strijleva interview's contest).

I was going to create something comedic before but all of sudden memories of my granma came back to me. She passed away quite a while ago but I still remember how devastated i was that time. I tried to pour all my emotion into this one.. which resulted in a really depressing weekend. It was really exhausting both mentally and physically when I did this drawing - the sad music that I listened was making it worse too.

I'm glad to be able to finish it - it's quite a relieve in the end. I miss both my granpa and granma.. I wish that they're both in peace and happy somewhere .. sniff..

Project Growth - first concept

The first concept made for Project Growth. It shows the mood and style we try to create for our game. It shows a scene from the underground world of the Alvergast people (little creatures). Instead of making it look dark and creepy we went for bright, cold colors to make it feel 'underground'. In our art for this project, we use a combination of stylized organic shapes (tree-roots, mushrooms) and hard lines (rocks), this is something we try to incorporate with everything we create for Project Growth.
Our little Alvergast people have fireflies or lightning bugs as pets, who help them light up there underground world.
