This one was finished for a long time already I just didn't upload it for whatever reason.
Well here it is, calm and simple, the way I prefer it.

I love using green in nebulae but its the most difficult color to use, so this turned out more yellow-ish than originally intended.

I've been trying to edit the original because it had quite a number of flaws but it was so big that it wouldn't open because of low memory space. But now I've organized and was able to edit it.

I am greatly satisfied with the newer outcome.

Crater Lake Massive Composite

Crater Lake in the early morning. Another panoramic composite, but this one seemed to be better suited to NOT being stitched seamlessly.

This image also represents a new class of panoramic photo that I'm calling "massive composites", meaning it's huge. The image I'm sharing here is a presented at 20% it's actual size -- the full-res image is a whopping 5 times this size (about 24000x4750 px).

Damn.

I hope to have more of these in the future, although they obviously are a handful to toss about in photoshop -- my computer hates me right now.

Aww... finally finished it. I thought I'd need more traditional Space Art. Took really a long time for me to get it right. But now I'm pretty satiesfied with the result. And no, your eyes don't trick you, this definitely HAS a planet (in fact it has two, if you want to count the moon).

All kind of feedback appreciated. Hope you like it.

Edit:
- Reworked the color scheme. The old one made it look like a mess. Much of the depth got lost. Looks a lot more real now.
- Changed the spherical "bubble" around the galaxy-thing a little. This is actually a bit freelancer-inspired.
- Reworked the nebulae a bit.

Orbit - Redux

This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.

“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

Story:

We had a really strong fog for a couple of days. That was a perfect opportunity for me to go and make some foggy photos
Actually, I went to make some waterscape photos Well, I made some, you'll see one of the two best photos in a while. Just when I thought of goin home because it turned out to be really hard to shoot in such conditions - you can see nothing, you should clear the filters and lens every 15 seconds and stuff Well, just when I thought of goin home I've decided to visit a little forest not very far from the place I was shooting at. And I'm really glad I did

I've parked my car and switched on all the lights. I spent about 20 minutes shooting there. You will see other photos too. Not all of them turned out as I wanted them to be but I'm still glad, cause it was a nice experience.

I thought of making a photo with the car lights on the back and a figure of me with long shadows. This was the first, test image which turned out to be the best I've placed my cam on a tripod, set it to timer and ran like hell to that place I'm standing on. I must have came there too late and that created a hole in my chest Well, I think so...

In photoshop I just tweeked the contrast a bit and make the hood a little more sharpened cause it was a bit blurred. The rest was left untouched - no color adjustments or any other thing. You can even see a lens flare just above my head at the top

Tech:

Canon EOS 400D + Sigma 10-20mm, tripod, timer, RAW; 4s, f/11, ISO 400; photoshop (contrast, resize, frame, sharpen).

I will also make this as my new I.D.

Will Never Forget You...

I'm sorry but there will be no prints of this image. This was dedicated to and only to my father, it is his gift, not to be sold anywhere else for me to profit.

Today is the day my dad passed away. This was back in 2005, a day I will never forget, and it still hurts..

This is a tribute to him, a depiction of his dream he told me about when I was young.

The Dream
He had a dream about walking into the forest, leaving behind his troubles, until he saw a beast. This beast was holding within its grasp...a beautiful bird...the bird you see depicted here. He quickly snatched the bird away from the monster, but strangely, it never retaliated...only submit to defeat. My dad then ran off with the bird, held it tightly, away from people who kept begging to buy this beautiful creature.

Symbolism. The beast was his old, painful life. The bird was his new life,like a phoenix, reborn

I'll never forget you...you will always be in my dreams, reminding me of the good, funny and bad times. All which that remind me, you were physically here...I love you

Hey Folks,

Work work work- I've been heads down doing some work for the upcoming Sarah Brightman digipac- which I'm very excited about and some matte for Toyota's add campaign for a new car release.

Anyways, I've been working on my book diligently and am on target for Novemeber 2008 release. This is one of the first "new" images from the "Dream Realm" in the book I've ever shown. I'm going to keep much of the work close until the release but, I thought I'd share this one for now.

The Alnitak Region in Orion.

This image has taken me since November 12th to finalise, working on it on-and-off. Without a doubt, this has been the most challenging composition as far as capturing (four hours of raw data) and processing is concerned. My right hand is completely stuffed from all the post-processing. I've now resorted to using the mouse with my left hand at work to compensate. I know, I'll probably just end up with two sore arms and a sore back, but, it's all about equilibrium.

I lost all my raw data for every single astrophotograph I've taken. Altogether, about 20 GB of data. Gone. I transferred the data to my housemate's notebook temporarily as I needed the room to process another image. Three days later, his hard drive decided to die of mechanical failure. So, to all those people who requested prints and other products, I'm sorry, all that is for sale is what you will find on my prints page. I'm still coming to terms with my loss.

As for this image:

The bright star to the left is Alnitak, which dominates this region. Alnitak (Zeta Orionis) is located about 830 light years away from our own Sun. It is the southeast most star in Orion's Belt. It has a visual magnitude of 1.7 and an absolute magnitute of -5.3.

The orange nebula in the bottom left is called, for obvious reasons, the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024 or Orion B). NGC 2024 is an emission nebula which is being excited by Alnitak. The closeness of Alnitak makes the nebula hard to see through a telescope. However, with a reasonable aperture and moderate magnification, if you keep Alnitak out of the field of view, you're able to see a soft glow with a prominent dark vein running North to South.

To the right of NGC 2024 is NGC 2023, a dark nebula.

I think everyone knows what the centrepiece is in this image. If in doubt, it's the Horsehead Nebula. The Horsehead Nebula is also referred to as B33, and is a reflection nebula.

The beautiful shroud of pink above the Horsehead Nebula is IC434, an emission nebula.

To the top right is Sigma Orionis, a main sequence star. Surrounding it is an open cluster referred to as SigmaOri.

North is left.

This composite consists of one set of images; one set of 40 images taken at ISO-400..
Each individual image was a 300 second exposure.
IRIS was used to calibrate each image (dark subtraction [median combined master dark] and flat field division [median combined master flat {lights and darks}]), to register, align, and finally stack.
Photoshop CS2 was used to adjust levels, curves, frame and resize the final composite.

I'm spacing what the actual card title is supposed to be. A spectral animal, a vessel of Good, has recently been through this meadow. He's left behind a few hints of his presence.

Frostbound

Although the title suggests 'frost', the small blue giant ironically orbits a hot blue dwarf; it takes about 12 days to make a year. The giant is composed mainly of methane and oxygen, rendering it blue along with the dwarf's bluish light. Since it is composed of about 2 elements, mostly methane, and the bands of concentrated methane go in the same direction, there is no heavy cyclonic activity.

The giant is very small, smaller than Neptune or Uranus, and has a thin ring that can only be seen by the light of the dwarf.
