The Demon of the Swamp
The girl gives a tuber for the Devil of the Swamp so that he could plant it. The Devil's job is to protect his swamp. It has got his sinister name due to his unattractive appearance, although in reality he is the heart of the swamp.

Yay! I got a new computer as a present for graduating from my school! I'll be an undergraduate (ylioppilas) :--) I'm super happy since my laptop with windows couldn't run the drawing programs well and was generally very slow. Now I have an iMac and it's a trillion times better ahhhhhh!

I practiced to use yellow tones. I find yellow very tricky color... But I think it came out pretty good in this piece!

Well....an attempt at using watercolours in a slightly more watercoloury way than I have in the past. The recent InkAnimal series was an attempt at loosening up how I paint, I find a lot of things I do to look a bit stiff and lifeless.
The InkAnimals thing was a bit more like a messy drawing than a painting so I wanted to try to relax the way I paint too.

A while ago I got a book by a Swedish artist called Lars Lerin. It's all watercolour paintings and I was just so jealous of how he makes such a mess but somehow the image is descriptive and atmospheric and not abstract. For ages I just assumed I wouldn't be able to do that so I didn't really try. .....and that's just silly..so I'm starting now.

I have to say that "Tiger in a Tropical Storm" by Henri Rousseau was a big influence on this. Part of our Art History class when I was in school was to take a work of art, learn about it, write about it and then reproduce it a couple of times. I was given Rousseau's Tiger and it's still in my head. It pops up every now and then. ]]>
