Sooo now that Bioshock: Infinite is out, I can finally share some of the visual development I did for the game! I just finished my first playthrough last night, so I'm pretty chuffed.

Figured I'd lead with my dress design process for young Liz, since her alternate outfit has been getting a lot of coverage (no pun intended) over the past couple of months. Irrational wanted a 1912 period- and age-appropriate look, so that’s what I was aiming for; there are a lot of iterations, but I'm really happy with how the final model turned out in-game.

My Brush Pack

So these are really the only brushes I use, period. I barely, ever, use custom weird funky brushes unless its for design purpose. I find this collection achieves exactly what I want, and haven't searched elsewhere. It's like my Holy Grail so I figured all of you digi painters could use them as well!

Now you might be like "Why such a small list?" I don't mean this in an arrogant way , but I can really achieve any feeling I want with these brushes, just get used to them, play with it and it'll work out! They did for me.

I have a run down below on what each brush is used for in a painting:

Brushes

Standard Brush: This is what I use to drop my basic colors when quickly slapping down what I want. I seldom use it for actual detailing, but if I need to block in thick patches I'll use this brush.

Detailing Painting Brush: My favorite brush next to the fur brush. This one is simply used to get those nooks and crannies. If I were to use the brush above for 25% of the painting, this would be the other 75%.

Lighting Brush You know all those lens flares, over bright lights, shiny glowing areas I do? This is the brush. Use it softly and you'll achieve a nice bloom in your lighting.

Detailing Lighting Brush For tinier spots, harder lighting areas.

Texture Brush: I use this brush mostly for pores, dabbles on the skin, bumpy surfaces, or just to give texture to skin in general. Works like a charm.

Hair Brush/Smudge Brush Pretty Self Explanatory. Do I start off painting hair with this brush? No, I use the Standard Painting Brush then I go over it with this brush to create the strands/etc. As for the smudging, this is my ideal color mixer when I need to blend tones, acts like a bristle brush and merges all those nice colors together to create a creamy feel.

Chalk Brush: I use this for clouds sometimes, smoke, or just patching in colors. Works better than I can explain.

Hard Ink Brush: This I use rarely, but when I do use it, it really helps. Usually for adding glare, or tight highlights on certian objects to make them pop. Like the girls earring.

Texture Brush # 2 : This one I use a lot to get nice pores, that sweaty look or just overall skin texture.

Cloud Brush #1-3: Used to paint clouds, nuff' said.

Abrams Lighting Brush: I love this brush. In my "INSIDE THE BEAST" image, all those lighting effects you guys talked about were used with this brush.

Speckle Brush: Used for skin again, or to dirty something up.

Debris Brush: Need to create dirt flying? Tiny bumps on a sexy leg? This is it sucka.

Fur Brush: UNF! My favorite brush. I use this for skin, fur, cloth, metal, sparks, debris, glass, anything. It's a hard shell to crack, but once you do..it's a GREAT brush.

Pore Brush: Literally my 489474th brush used for skin/pores.

Glass Brush: Used to create shattered glass, papers flying, etc.

Mass Effect 2: Harbinger Soundboard

4th installment of my Soundboard series, everyones favourite taunter.. Harbinger!! Ohhh I LOVE him so much ha. He has the best 'bad guy' voice. I was pretty pissed that he wasn't in ME3 (ya know what I mean...) giving Shepard the shits as s/he goes through the game.

A lot of his dialogue is quite similar, so there might be a few that sound the same. I tried to get as many diverse ones as I could. I think I counted a total of 140 lines of his in game, but I might be out one or two. They're not all featured here, but most of the better ones are.

The Assassin and the Phantom

So um. Yeah. This. Happened.

Rolled a phantom on the MERP because we were lacking in Cerberus characters for the inevitable Cronos plot, and our Leng needed something to do...so... I made my Phantom.

Leta Weyland. (Yes, her last name is intentional. TIM and Lengs players were amused greatly by it.)

Cerberus ID: 42963857A2, Phantom.

Colony kid, minor biotics that she never used-and kept secret for most part- graduated college as a biochemist, then joined the Alliance as an officer, dabbling in infiltration with other infiltrators on her down time- being an officer was boring, and the combat training was entertaining for her, and she became more satisfied with the way the training helped her gain discipline over her body and its movements.

Her parents argued with her about her choices, saying she should have gone to work with colony development, like Exo-Geni. They never made up- they died on Eden Prime during Sarens Geth attack.

She was furious at the Council for dismissing the deaths of the colonists, and when she found out about Cerberus, she left the Alliance without a word and signed up, offering her expertise with biochemistry- and quickly found a love and natural knack for toxicology.

Volunteered for the Phantom initiative without hesitation. She also volunteered for a highly experimental procedure that created a link between Leng and his Phantom unit- the Tianshi Cell

Tianshi means Angel- we joke that the Phantoms are "Leng's Angels."

Also, seriously, read that link. The Illusive Man's player put considerably thought into that to make it feasible for ME lore, and it's fantastic.

Uses poisons on her ninjato- her own personal cocktail: Belladonna, Azalea, Oleander and Autumn Crocus. Shes currently working on adding mint to the mixture due to mints dextro-amino based sugars, seeing if it will work as a binding agent to make her poison effective against Turians and Quarians.

Shes very fun to play- she and Leng have gone from sparring and having awkward conversation to... well. We left off with Leng using a law from Newton to make a move on her XDDD. I blame Lengs player for making me like him more.

A Future for the Krogan

Wow the extended cut was just announced hours ago and I'm super excited, posting this piece to mark the occasion.

Link to the Tuchunka music that inspired me to do this piece: [link] thanks to the user who found it for me. That music plays on the curing genophage mission when Shepard emerges from the tunnels to see green on Tuchunka for the first time. It was a powerful moment from the last game that stayed with me.

So in this alternate future, some time after the ending to ME3, the Krogan are gifted cloned Kakliosaurs by the salarians as a gesture of goodwill and a parade is held on Tuchunka to celebrate the curing of the genophage and a move towards more peaceful relations between the salarians/turians and Krogan.
Wrex is holding his kid named after Mordin while the salarian scientist who cloned the kakliosaurs walks alongside. Grunt leads to the left with some members of Aralakh company and Eve is of course in the center because females are now running the show and keeping peace.

For anyone who doesn't remember what kakliosaurs are they were an animal species on Tuchunka that went extinct and there is a side quest on the citadel to give a kakliosaur skull to a salarian scientist for possible cloning/research purposes. There are also paintings of Krogan riding them in the underground tunnels, which is what I referenced when drawing them.

Now concerning the work ... please do not ask where the idea came from. It just did while I was listening to "A Few Good Friends" from Piglet's Big Movie_{(can't decide if I like the English version or the Romanian one ( [link] ) more)}. And from there ... my hand picked up a pencil, started doodling, liked said doddle, then scan - Photoshop - changed my mind concerning the general atmosphere a couple of times (finally settled for a dream-like/memory-type one) - and voila!

Making the grass tall was particularly fun (had to keep in mind the fact that they are mice!) And just so you won't start pointing out the fact that a tree can't be that small, I'll say "have you ever looked at the roots of a tree before?". Oh, and the reason leafs can be seen is because I decided to make this particular tree a willow tree

Still ... I BLAME YOU DISNEY!!!

Anywho ~ this is my first time drawing bot Olivia and Dr. Dawson, so GMD fans, be merciful ....

So this is the first serious thing I've done for myself in forever. I worked so long on it, but my biggest worry is that the monitor you're viewing it on isn't as bright as mine. The background of this image should be a dark grey. But not so dark as to not be able to distinguish the black from the poster on the wall. Try chucking up the contrast if everything looks black to you D;

Wow, so the DD was really unexpected on a little comic I submitted back in September - Thanks for all the comments, I've enjoyed reading all your little bedtime stories! Good to know there are so many people keeping their loved ones from SLEEP! Now you should all go make some comics, tadpoles optional. Maybe about pigeons.

This was written in during my creavite writting club's exercise today. We all wrote 5 random words and put them into a bag. Then we had to take 5 out and write a short story using them. My words were silenced, augmented, cheerios, Sacramento, and tornado. Somehow I came up with this dreary tale of a sad, sad day for cereal.

I tried not to change anything in this because I wanted it as close to the original as possible-though I did change it a little, but it's the same story.

The Alchemist

Since I've been drawing a lot of girls lately, I thought I'd draw a guy to balance things out. This is some random guy I came up with and he has nothing to do with Fullmetal Alchemist.

His desk looks kinda like mine, except mine is messier XD oh and yes, that feather pen is writing by itself (like in Harry Potter XD)

Drawn and colored in Paint Tool SAI and texture added in Photoshop. I'm really loving how well the colors blend in SAI great program for drawing anime.

Iron Giant Commemorative

Here's the piece I put together for the Labyrinth's ambitious Iron Giant Project. Have you submitted your Iron Giant-inspired art yet?

This piece is all digital, done on my new Cintiq 12WX, which is a neat experience for me as I usually draw my line art on paper first and then just add colour/tone in Photoshop. You can see some steps of the process on my art blog. If you like what you see there, check out my other blog posts or the rest of my DA gallery.

I can't believe it's been 10 years since the film was released. I remember exactly where I was when I went to see it in theatres and the effect it had on me was substantial. The quality of the animation, direction, pacing, characters, emotion... it has it all.
