Luke Skywalker, who was checking out the wreckage of the Chu'unthor, is caught off guard by her sudden appearance and barely dodges a kick to the face. This is totally an unfair match-up but Miss Djo has no clue who she's dealing with.

Well, almost. GROUNDWORKS: The Marvel Art of Mark Brooks is off to the printers and will be available starting at San Diego Comic Con on July 12th-15th. The book is a 48 page full color hardback and contains over 200 sketches, designs, concepts, and full color works much of which has never been seen anywhere else. From the moment my pencil hits the page to the glossy final image, you'l see all the steps it takes to produce my work for Marvel. I've tried to produce a book that's more than just a book of art and created something that shows the momentum of an image and gives the viewer an idea of the foundation of how a piece of art winds up in the pages of your favorite Marvel Comics. Hence the title- GROUNDWORKS.

Sorry to everyone who has smaller screens; the size of this is simply because I wanted the horses' features to be seen! It doesn't even fit on my 1024x768 screen!
A touch of the dramatic here; all this pent up rage from my job and everything just getting the better of me, so what better way than to create some fury induced artwork!?
=larfsalot's beautiful photogarphy again; I can't stop using her gorgeous images, plus the pose was perfect for the background (which for once (=arrsistable will be pleased to hear this) I found first and foremost before the horse!) ~Shadehkins deserves a kiss on the cheek too for her input into the first stages of this image;
I purchased E.S. Posthumus' new album today, it came out at the beginning of the month, but I *cough* didn't have the money to buy it. Alot of the music listed above is from that album and ultimately the musical output for this piece, because the tracks are all so dramatic this time around, upbeat and racey!
Anumati is a type of full moon day in which the moon remains slightly cut and not fully full moon. She is also a Hindu goddess.

But imagine witnessing this girl seemingly drowned in the huge waves as they come cascading over the rocks, sucking all air forms into the deep, dark ocean below... but like a phoenix she bursts from the cape of ice cold water; wings unfurled and surging forwards she rides at the helm of the raging sea storm...
perhaps only in my imagination... o.O

The model and I decided to try and recreate an Elvgren pinup as accurately as possible with only bodypaint. This is the version without the photoshop filters.

Step 2: I pencil the piece working out all the details for the piece. No reference taken for this one, all done out of my head.

Step 3: Color roughs over the pencils so I get an idea of how I will color it in the final piece.

Step 4: I print the pencils out in non-photo blue on my Epson R1800 at 13"X19" on Strathmore bristol board and ink it using a Pentel brush pen and Copic Multiliners

Step 5: I rescan the piece back to my computer and color it in photoshop on my Cintiq 21UX using my original color rough as reference.
I get asked a lot how I scan in such large artwork on a standard scanner. I scan the piece in pieces and put it back together in photoshop.
