Rebuilding

My original inspiration for this piece was the Strength card from the tarot deck. But instead of the traditional concept of a young woman conquering or subduing a lion, in my version, she's creating or rebuilding the lion.

I like to think of this piece as a reminder that when things are difficult, can create our own strength, and when they go wrong, and it feel as if everything is falling apart, we can always rebuild.

Steampunk Gear Table

This item is an example of experience design. A solid piece of furniture that all of the gears rotate freely and turn each other. This table was designed to be a reinterpretation of the "Lazy Susan" with a steampunk and whimsical view.

All of the gears and woodwork are completely hand-cut using a small saw and exacting precision. With approx. 1/16" tolerance on either side of each and every tooth. This is a table that is unique and awesome. That is the reaction it has received being on display at Kutztown University in front of the Furniture Design Studio or at the Eckhaus Gallery in Kutztown. The Gear Table is even being published in a book coming out in March 2011.

The gears are made from 15 layers of birch hardwood laminated together and the large gear is 30 layers. This table is strong with an infrastructure of black iron and stainless steel hardware. This is a definite conversation piece and will last a lifetime. The second you spin the gears from the handle is the second you know you will love this table forever and your friends will be playing with it for hours.

The table's overall measurements are approx. 26 inches wide, 40 inches long, and 30 inches high. If you are interested in buying this table we can talk about shipping or pick-up. Please if you have any questions, ask them. I am the one who made it and I know every inch of it.

This was our first BFA project in Fall 2010. Our assignment was given by alumni working at ILM. Boardtrack racing was an old sport that was eventually banned in the 1930s. Our assignment was to design 3 characters, story moments, and a prop. My main character is a former racer turned mechanic with a wooden leg. He has become bitter from being unable to race anymore and slowly distanced himself away from his friends and girlfriend.

I revised it so many times for my portfolio/BFA gallery and then made prints to sell at Otakon. Even tho I made super limited prints, it sold out Yay!

I'll probably upload stuff from my bfa portfolio...

Common Name: Longtonge
Other names: Pe Limba (romanian for "long tongue")
Provenence: Forests of Wallachia, Romania.
Description: This giant type of Phytozoon has been known by the name Makriaglosa worldwide, altough the origin of this name remain uncertain. In the early twentieth century, small packs of juvenile Makriaglosas hitherto endemic to Romania, were captured by smugglers and taken to Asia, where medicines and food were prepared from the flower that grows on their backs, despite be highly poisonous, but were also introduced to the wild as well in production farms. Fortunately, environmental organizations have managed to eradicate trafficking in this species and has banned its use for commercial purposes.

Despite its appearance, the Makriaglosa is generally peaceful, feeding on small mammals like mice or rabbits that catches with its long forked tongue (hence its name) and rarely is a threat to humans, but deforestation and invasion of its territory have led to this controversial species to take justice into their own attacking and infecting livestock with crop pest, all this has caused a frenzy for an indiscriminately hunt, becoming them an endangered species, regardless of efforts by conservation groups, the current population of Makriaglosa has at least 300 individuals in the wild.

The paper is part of Dante's Inferno. I wanted to use written word in this piece. Specifically something from the past. Purposely this is done in several layers. The circles=family, the spirals=life.

At last we have laid out our creation. We did these suits three months. It was very difficult for it is difficult to find the necessary materials in Russia at the low price. The result was pleasant to us. It was our first experience. Photoshoot was in sandy open-cast mine at high temperature.

The new year starts and for me it means more drawing, painting, practicing and work.

The finished work - a town celebrating the new year - with having a Dragonfestival and lots of fireworks.

Well - the true art of fireworks is, in my world, of course wielded by dragons! Every new year there is the Dragonfestival with great fireworks only done by real masters.

My idea for this work is showing the same scene in two different perspectives. Hope you like it.

I just had to get this image down after seeing it one day in the city. I took various artistic liberties, but it reminds me enough of the feeling I had looking at the shadows casting off the Empire State building into peach clouds, the sun setting behind it. I didn't capture the awesomeness of that view in its wholeness- but I tried in the little time this took. I hope you can get a glimpse at what I saw, and felt.

While I was ealking in Saragossa, Spain, I came across this wonderful lok, and I liked it much with those reddish and yelowish tones, which give the photo a fall look, although it was much colder, a pretty wintry weather...
