My most recent assignment for my Schoolism course with the lovely and inimitably talented Sam Nielson (). I'm actually happy enough with this to post it, so that's something! God I love painting clouds.

Sam does the initial loose linework for each assignment, so credit where credit is due for general mountain/cloud placement.

In the far future, the earth has run out of fossil fuels entirely. Mankind is so busy bickering that they have forgotten to develop a fuel alternative to move their massive vehicles. So, to solve their problem, they made, um...that.

Practice painting, about 3 hours. I don't know what else to say about it.

('Tamara Holt' is the name of a Bitizen in a game called Tiny Towers that I've been playing in my girlfriend's ipad. For some reason, I remember that name a lot, so i use it here.)

The approach we were going for for these B7 backgrounds is a water color feel. Like Lilo and Stitch's approach but a little edgier I reckon? This is the route I'm thinking of pushing Bastion's 7.

After Caleb turned these in I was pretty much breathless... (and still am) He had me at "You got mail, kid!"

Like a kid running with scissors, I ran to Photoshop to test some of the characters on top to see if they pop and gel well.

Cemetary: Igor Movie

I created this art for the animatic of the Igor short film, all the elements were painted separately and I edited them to slide past each other to create a multiplane effect.

Normally an animatic isn't in color or this detailed, but I had a dual role as Director/Production Designer so my intention was to have work ready for production at the same time. I also wanted to grab the imaginations of potential investors when they came to kick the wheels and slam the doors, checking Exodus out. These people were new to the Entertainment Industry so I made sure they left the building inspired.

Half of the sky was painted by Justin Murray [link] at the time an incredibly raw but inspirational talent. I continued the rest of his turbulent sky so that the multiplane would work and matched the graveyard's colors to his palette.

This production art of Dr.Glickenstein's laboratory was a collaborative effort between myself as rough layout and color, Richard Ory as clean up and Justin Murray [link] as the inspirational sketch artist.

This was Justin's first gig in animation, but his raw conceptual designs held an unbounded energy that I wanted to capture. Richard Ory, like myself, was a seasoned professional, but had worked as a Prop Designer, this was his first time doing layouts. So I would knit the talents of the two together with my layouts. Using Justin's loose roughs as the inspiration and then have Richard build the scene up one prop at a time, his tighter style and knowledge of machinery giving an added credibility. I would then scan the pencil drawings of each prop into Photoshop and color the completed scene .

The end result was more like alchemy showing the best of our abilities. We could look at each layout and recognize something of our selves in the final piece, but it was better than what we were able to achieve on our own.

Entry for the EVE Online Create a Starship Contest.

Created and designed using Adobe Flash CS3 with some graphical touch ups with Photoshop CS2.

Yes, it's sort of a wide ship. At 950m in length (and greater in width) I believe it qualifies as a battleship class in size, though not as comparable to some larger battleships like the Machariel. (Though designed as a battleship, I also figure it can be a battlecruiser, maybe by halving the length.)

I flew a Maelstrom and a Hurricane in game which are rather pretty 'long' ships , plus I can appreciate and adore the Naglfar's 'vertical' design, but I realized there to be a lacking in 'wide' ships for the Minmatar.

Since this is meant as a battleship (or battlecruiser if needs be) I tried to follow the norm in naming the ship, but I can't figure out much that can go along the lines with Tempest, Maelstrom and Typhoon (or Hurricane and Cyclone) so I'll just call it "Hailstorm".

As far as role in combat, I wish not to impose or anything, but I could be happy with a speed gunboat, ala Stabber, but for a battleship class. A budget fast gunboat battleship for those who can't yet go for a Machariel and not wishing to use mix weapon loadouts. But that's just me.

I've Created the home town of the dark elves and wood elves that i have made 3D model for recently. They are forced to live together now. The darkelves are still adapting to living above ground, and have convinced the wood elves to use some of the technologies they have developed. Basically they use trees as batteries, creating energy by converting photosynthesis into light. They use a combination of crystal "magic" and dwarf steampunkage. I will be refining the metalworks in 3D. adding more pipes here and there etc. And creating a more unique converter type device that plugs into the trees.
I think I got carried away with the exaggerate perspective and made the back tower too small. also the tree is not tall enough. I wanted everything to fit within this frame shape, so i pulled some strings. This started at as just a draft for the 3D model, but i felt i needed practice drawing perspective so i challenged myself to make a dynamic believable shot. Lots of area lightage.. This is because I wanted to see as much as possible and flesh out different areas so i have a better grasp of how i want things to be textured in 3D.

I really am looking forward to creating this environment. I will be working on this while watching a few tuts on rigging in maya and some introductory tuts on the unreal engine... I would really like to create an unreal mod with this environment and the low poly characters i have created.

Im having issues with photoshop... I understand when you save images for web the colors are a bit different... but ive never noticed how different until now for some reason. my colors are coming out way to black i think... I brightened this image before saving to compensate for the darks...
under proof setup i have windows rgb selected. under color settings i have North american general purpose 2
srgb iec61966-2.1

These are the original environment drawings/lighting tests for the Mulholland house in Full House Poker. Obscene amounts of perspective be damned, it was a fun assignment and I still wish I lived there. Or at least had that saltwater fish tank.

That's right it is a NEVERENDING FLOW OF WORK ART. This is what happens when my games get released. Deal with it.

This sheet is for our figurehead environment, the Art Deco Vegas casino. Yeees, I know Vegas wasn't a boom town until after the construction of the Hoover Dam, but we called it that during production anyway. I had never really designed for art deco before, despite loving the style, so it was enlightening.

This environment probably wins for most little card suit references littered throughout the decor and props. There are a lot.

I got to do most of the production & environment design for Full House Poker on XBLA (save some of the initial design work on the Macau casino), and it has since been released! Thank god. Some of this stuff is over a year old, so please bear with me and my woefully out-of-date art.

This is one of the prop sheets for the Mullholland House- I'm a complete sucker for mid-century architecture and design, so this was without a doubt my favourite out of the three in-game environments. Eames and Howard Miller influences eeeeverywhere.
