Prometheus M#R-66Y, A.K.A Robo

My name is Prometheus, model #R-66Y. You can call me Robo.

Earlier this year I had the very great pleasure of finally joining in a group cosplay with some of my good friends from Perth. We ended up doing a Chrono Trigger group, and I jokingly offered to do the giant, difficult robot costume... And then I made it...

Robo is made out of a micture of craft foam (mostly yoga mats), hula hoops, cardboard and assorted bits and pieces of plastics and junk. The eyes are also made from LEDs and light up, which are pretty cool! The only bad thing about this robot was that it had limited movement, and also I wore it on a very, VERY hot day in summer, so it was kind of like... cosplaying in a portable sauna.

I love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I used to watch all the MLP movies and series as a kid (my favorites were WindWhistler and Fizzy, and the Flutter Ponies). Getting back to watching MLP:FiM brought back all the love I had for the series as a child, not to mention the enjoyment of a new series I could watch as a grown-up, laden with grown-up jokes and memes.

This Wai-Con I was asked to be on the Judge's Panel for the Saturday, and I didn't have a costume to wear, but I wanted to do something fun and happy. And what else is more fun and happy than Pinkie Pie? A lot of people have told me that our personalities are pretty darn close - one of my friends has even commented that Pinkie is my spirit animal XD

The ever-gorgeous (my FASHUN FRIEND) designed the outfit for me - I wanted a really cute dress, and by god did she design something adorable! The best part about being able to wear this dress (aside from the ADORABLE wig and the ears I made which look SO CUTE OHMAGAWD) was that it was super-comfy, and I got to hold balloons! BALLOONS! (and I got a pair of glasses with a fake nose and mustache too!)

Heaps of thanks also to Maree, who was my Fluttershy on the day, and her sister for lending me the adorable petticoat I wore under the skirt!

I don't even know what to say...I am so happy to have had my first Penguindrum photoshoot! Since this series was suggested to me by a few friends months ago, I've been in a rollercoaster of EMOTIONS which all ends with the finale tomorrow! So I'm glad I could put up a shot to uuh...commemorate, that?!

Hey Skye, I remember you said you really liked this outfit, and since it's one of the few things you liked about the movies (ohohohoho), I thought it would be nice to do for you. Sort of to say goodbye. I guess it's a tiny bit like in the movie, where you'll be there and yet not there at the same time for me.

But I've got stuff happening here, and you'll have a lot happening for yourself too always. If there's one thing I want to tell you, it's this. I'm hoping for you to find what you're looking for in life. Not contentment, but utmost satisfaction.

Thanks for being my inspiration, for being patient with me, but most of all, thank you for being my friend. We've had many ups and downs, but I wouldn't give you up for the world. Thanks to all the people who randomly popped in and out to hold the reflector and provide water

First non-japanese cosplay ever <3 ~ Thank you so much ~saharasnow and *shiroin who kept throwing water and taking photos for me until we got this awesome shot Because I have no idea how to shop water, the both of them kept flinging water bottle after bottle until we got this <3 <3

Really hated doing katara's wig, I couldn't find one with the right colour on time and ended up buying a bright orange one, which I dyed and sprayed at least 3 times before getting a nice medium sort of brown which faded like the night before I was going to wear it ORZ. Ended up having to shop it darker anyways *sighs*. Costume was pretty easy to make, feel really proud of myself for sewing on the white patterns on the base of her top rather than gluing as I normally would have~

But this was a really fun cos. It was nice and comfortable to wear, and considerably cooler than Banshee which I had on the day before, and it's the first time I got to tan myself rather than getting whiter I was like O.o when I saw myself in the mirror after I was done, looked really different~ I wasn't expecting to get recognized at cosfest since the Singapore cosplay scene is Japanese orientated~ but it really made my day when little kids went AVATAR AVATAR when they saw us <3 That and it was really a challenge doing the poses because I'm really stiff at action orientated posing~ Thank you zuko for being such an awesome teacher!! The fire-bender that waterbends lol~ she airbends and earthbends too!!

This group was a dream come true for me! When I first had the idea of doing Avatar cosplay, I asked all of my cosplaying friends if they'd like to join me, and was absolutely floored when we ended up with so many characters!

Humanised!Starscream as he appears in G1-verse, and that's a Decepticon banner he's holding there. Starscream belongs to Takara and Hasbro; Humanised design is somewhat influenced by pixiv artist 天吾, main design elements are mostly mine.

...there are so many things wrong with that picture I can't even begin to list them all. But it was so fun drawing it I'll just shut up for now. Started this picture two weeks ago but didn't finish until now ~~SO MUCH BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS~~. Drawn and coloured all on SAI~ Text put on in PS at the end.

This is my first proper painting, so it would be very much appreciated if I could get some criticism--- it would really be very, very awesome. orz;;

My friends were like "HOLYWHUT???" When I showed up to the con as Aang...I don't think anyone was expecting it LOL! Sorry for eyescarring you guys!! ;
My poor mother was like..."YOUR HAIR!!?? *SOB*"
However I had so much fun doing my makeup so I could look like him and also in doing liquid latex and sfx make-up for the bald cap as I wanted a challenge! 8D

My fave parts of the con were walking around and calling everyone "Hotman" (and getting it as a response 8D), being totally in character and crazy....but most of all...little kids kept coming up to me whilst saying to their parents, "MUMMY LOOK!! IT"S THE AVATAR!! HE"S REAL!!" <3 (Comments like that...are why I cosplay man..*tears of joy* ;AA

I love absolutely everybody in Avatar so much!!! One of my favourite shows of all time! I know it back to front and quote it like all the time...LOL!! *GEEK* Aang will always have a special place in my heart as a character...<3 I love his optimism!

Final Fantasy XIII, Snow Villiers cosplay and Shiva

This costume and prop received 2nd place in Round 1 of the Madman National Cosplay Championships at Brisbane Supanova 2010.

About the Costume:

Trench coat : This was definitely a big challenge for me because in all of costume making, one of my biggest weaknesses and phobias is making normal looking clothing.
To tackle this, I decided to use a pattern for the first time ever in 2 years and altered it to fit and sit.
The material I chose for this was a cream coloured Panama.
It wasn't the best choice material-wise but the colour was spot on.
The jacket is fully lined, then eyelets were hand hammered into the collar straps and the sleeves were frayed by hand, accurate to the CG.

Vest: This was another dreaded piece of clothing with a flip out collar, which means another piece of clothing I needed to fully line.
The colour references for this part of the costume also gave me some dilemmas because some pictures make the vest look brown and white, some look blue and light blue. In the end I decided to go with a baby blue material for the base, and a dark scrappy blue for the edges, because of the in-game colours.
The base of the vest was sewn together first with the light blue, then dark blue stripes were sewn and ironed on to give it a clean and finished look. The double zipper was cheated and made from 2 separate zippers, sewn in very carefully next to each other.

Arm band: metallic detail made from oven dry clay. the band itself is a layer of suede and a layer of suit material.

Pants:These were existing pants that I thoguht were perfect for Snow, but was much too dark, so I washed them then sun dried them for 3 weeks, to wear the colour out. It worked like magic~

Shoes: The base shoe is actually, a snow boot....buwahaha!
Over the snow boots, I sewed a neck together and hammered them with eyelets and laced them. Big circle studs were made from oven dry clay. Fairly simple.

Shiva: The Shiva bike has to be the most insane and ambitious project that I have ever made myself attempt.
The structure is made from 60 gym foam mats, and over 180 sticks of 12mm hot glue.
Silver, Gold, metallic charcoal, and blue paints were used on this prop, all different shades were hand mixed then applied.
The heads are snapped off wig heads...
All the foam structures sit on top of a wooden frame with baby wheels, enabling it to move and DRIFT!

The whole project, costume plus bike, was completed within 12 days.

Waterbending - Hula

3/10/2011 Edit: Made a bunch of changes to this one. Added more contrast to the colors, fixed Katara's facial features a bit and adjusted the image to be poster-sized. You can see the old version here.

This is a birthday present for my sister: , who requested "ninja turtles or waterbenders" . I'm a big TMNT fan, but I haven't drawn them for years, so the choice was obvious XD.

It's an older-looking Katara using Hula to bend the water . Her stance is based loosely on the Hula pose called "ike" which looks like this [link]

One thing I would have loved to see in Avatar was a group of waterbenders based around Polynesian culture. It would fit really well :]. The concept for this picture is something I wanted to do for a while.

Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender being happy. OMAGAAAAD KATARA WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE SHOES??

I'm currently doing the art for the Airbender film prequel manga (psst you can preorder it here [link] ), and I got so tired of drawing Zuko looking cold/sullen/angry/disgruntled/etc. all the time that I cracked under the pressure and drew this. It was therapeutic. (It goes without saying that this is TV!Zuko, not Movie!Zuko.)

As for the rest -- well I needed to put something else there. It didn't really come out the way I wanted it but then again I'm no Lisa Frank.

_{This is my Syaoran costume from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles that i made for the Final Round in WCS Australia. Together with my partner of "Team S.M.E.X", Aly who was Sakura, we performed our skit, and came second.

These are the batch of felt cakes I'd made for NDK '08! Sold out of them too. They're far to fun to make though time consuming. I'm thinking of selling these online too, once I get another batch going :d; Of course if I attend Sakuracon in March then probably not lol. Yes it takes me a while to stock up on them. Though my mom helps since she likes crafts too

Painting Steps

This is how I paint things at the present time. This is not how I painted things a month ago
I keep changing my techniques, but I do like this method so I thought I would share.

Something too lengthy to mention in the pic: The reason I do the first half of the painting on a small canvas is for two reasons. Firstly, for speed - trying to lay down large textured brushstrokes on a huge canvas causes painful lag. Secondly, when I upscale, I discovered the rough texture turns into an interesting mottled look due to the resize artifacts. This actually looks really nice for skin variation!

I came across a photo of some toadstools and was inspired to draw some with Caterpillar sheltered beneath them. Originally I was going to make it photoreal but thought better of it and went a little more sketchy and illustrative. I'm rather liking that, actually. Might do some more paintings like this

Kenshin, Kaoru, Yahiko and Sano managed to fight their way through the tribulations that bound them, and found purpose and a different kind of strength through each other.

For this group shot, we tried to visually depict their relationships. I chose to unsheathe a part of the reverse-edged blade to show how Kenshin vowed to protect the innocent and the people who are important to him, without resorting to killing. Miguel propped his arm on my shoulder to represent how Sano is Kenshin's trusted friend and self-appointed partner _{(in fighting, you silly Yaoi Enforcers)}. Yahiko stands close by, eager to learn from the man who acknowledged his strength when no one else did, and helped him grow. Kaoru stays by Kenshin's side, to literally portray how she stands by him and never loses faith regardless of the circumstances.

The legendary four beauties of ancient China. They have a very rich history and legend behind them, which I try to honor while giving them my own take.

Xi Shi | The king of Yue searched his lands for a beauty, and Xi Shi, the extraordinarily beautiful daughter of a humble tea trader was favored. The king trained her in espionage and court etiquette and sent her, richly dressed, to the prince of the Kingdom of Wu as a tribute gift. The prince was so charmed by her bewitching that he neglected his kingdom. Easily, the King of Yue invaded during the political chaos and overtook the kingdom of Wu. The prince committed suicide and Xi Shi lived happily ever after with her lover, the minister Fan Li.
She's said to be so beautiful that when she was washing silk by the river, the fish was so entranced by her beauty that they forgot to swim and drowned.

Wang Zhaojun | Emperor Yuan used painted portraits to choose his concubines, so naturally, the ladies bribed the court painter to make each of their portraits more flattering. Wang Zhaojun was confident in her beauty and refused to bribe him, and in anger, the artist painted her terribly. One day, the emperor wanted to send one of his court ladies to the Huns as a political bride, and based on her misleading portrait, Wang Zhaojun was chosen. When she sadly turned to go, Emperor Yuan saw her face and realized that she's actually the most beautiful in his court. But it's too late.. as the luckless beauty walked out of the palace into the winter day, a flock of birds flying overhead was so struck by her selflessness and gorgeousness that they forgot to fly and fell to their deaths. Emperor Yuan put the dishonest court painter to death, but Wang Zhaojun never returned to her homeland.

Diaochan | Diaochan, a gentle, loyal maid, helped orchestrate a war between two warlords and ended the rule of a tyrant using her charm. Unfortunately, she was eventually put to death by the tyrant's cronies. The legend goes that one autumn night as she was worshiping the moon, the moon was so awed by her beauty that it hid behind some clouds out of shame.

Yang Guifei | Yang Guifei was a high ranking, privileged beauty, and the Emperor Xuanzong was so in love with her that he neglected his state affairs and indulged in their pleasures, feasting and drinking all day long. The legend goes that she's so beautiful, the spring flowers would refuse to bloom out of embarrassment. Yang Guifei also loves to take baths, and the Emperor built lavish, splendid lakes and baths for her. One day, a rebellion was staged and the Emperor fled the palace with Yang Guifei, but his soldiers refused to go on and demanded the death of the beauty, whom they believe had ruined the country. Towards the end, Yang Guifei killed herself to save the king.}

this is my version of the avatar and his pals. i kinda did the same thing like my "puffy amiyumi" piece where i just did my own version of em.

Fashion is something that influencs me a lot. especially street fashion. i wanted to draw clothes that looked like they could be real and not too fantastical.

i also wanted each of them to be holding something that represented their element. yes, thats a fan hanging from aang's mouth, toph is holding a rock. y is she flippin the bird u ask? well, she just seemed like the type hu would. katara is holding a bottle of water and zuko has a cigarette.
overall, the image dint really come out the way i wanted. so many thing si couldv changed and done better. but yeah, watever. . . .il do better next time (-~_~-)

It started very seriously, as a practice for poses...then Toph came in, and then slowly everything turned into a Calvin and Hobbes moment.

I don't control these characters. They remind me any chance they get.
And no, I don't draw Toph's eyes. It just happens that way. If I do a close up of her face, then I will.
