This is an arts & crafts project that my daughter and I did for her Religious Studies and Art class in our home school (both classes are on the same day, so we combined the two classes that day for this project).
I was inspired to do this project after seeing a graphic that made.

This is a work in progress, the coding would likely be an interesting mess, but one concept on how Metro could be translated into a personal blog.

As with the plain idea of it, the blog would focus on the content over being excessively flashy as a site itself. I'd debate whether black on white would be the best color choice, but I'd be open to changing that.

I think I'm gonna try to make this into my own blog, but I can be assured there will be some clunky-ness to an initial version, including the point that I know there's a way to use a custom font which may or may not be on the user's computer, but I don't know how to do it.

As always, any suggestions, ideas, or otherwise are definitely welcome!

Faenza Alternate CoverGloobus

I named it Faenza Alternate because ~d0od had already created a Faenza theme. The difference between his and mine is that his has a white border, while mine is borderless.

It has hidden buttons in the lower corners, and in the bottom of the cover.

This is a set of icons in the Faenza style for various Linux games.

Instructions

Extract the zip and drop the tar.gz file into the Appearance Preferences theme window or extract to ~/.icons, for all users, /usr/share/icons. The icons will show up as "Game-Icons".

Notes:

Some icons my not have the right names, since I don't have the games to know. You can just rename them accordingly or change the icons manually. 128x128 PNG and SVG provided.

If you want to use this icon theme with Faenza-Dark, you'll have to open the index.theme in the icon directory and change the line to Inherits=Faenza-Dark

Make sure you have the Faenza icons installed, since this pack relies on them.

Icon Naming

Icon naming is a pain, since icons use various directories and different naming styles(especially for third party games). Places to look for the correct icon names are, /usr/share/pixmaps, /usr/share/icons/hicolor or your game install directory.

Angry Birds Plush Playset

A little girl at Thanksgiving dinner said to me, while I was playing Angry Birds on my phone, "I wish I could play that game in REAL LIFE!"

And so I thought...why not?

My friend Jennifer and I made these cute little plush birdies and piggies this afternoon. Jennifer provided some manual labor and taught me how to sew strips of felt into round balls, something I had no idea how to accomplish.

After we finished, the kids took the birds and pigs into the backyard and set up little wooden buildings to knock over and "make the pigs go 'PUFF'".

Then they ran around and threw birds and pigs at each other.

~Aerilius has updated the theme to Ubuntu Light Themes 12.10.
You most likely want to download it instead, because it has fixes for almost all the bugs and includes a Radiance color variant in addition to Ambiance.

This port to Windows as well as the original Light themes for Linux are under a Creative Commons License, that means you can feel free to share, redistribute and (please) edit !

My intention was to bring the new polished look of Ubuntu and a more consistent visual appearance into my Windows programs in Virtual Box or Wine. As XP is still more widely used than Windows7 (especially in VirtualBox), I started with the Ambiance color scheme in XP msstyles format. Contributions of any kind are highly welcome!

This is a work in progress and there are still some bugs. If you have more knowledge of Windows Visual Styles, it would be great if you could help me:

Unfortunately, many parts of XP styles cannot be skinned (context menu, rectangular text inputs, etc.). In addition most windows programs do not consistently use system colors/fonts, but override them with hard-coded colors/fonts (black) which can cause weird results. If you know how things could be improved, I would appreciate any help.

some font colors still do not match
problems with the dark menu background (some apps override it and display both text and background white)
I couldn't get the progress bar to work
an icon theme would be awesome, aswell as Radiance and Ambiance Dark color scheme

for using custom Windows themes, you always need to have a patched uxtheme.dll, for example with UXtheme Multi Patcher
you can get the window buttons on the left side using LeftSider
right click on the task bar, then 'unlock' and move it to the top

Sonar'10 preview

This's a preview of a Sonar Artwork Pack I'm releasing later today.

Sonar is openSUSE's default look and probably the best "vanilla" GNOME around.

The pack includes Sonar GTK Theme, Fifth Leg titlebar font, Sonar Icons, latest GNOME Icon Theme (new emoticons!), openSuse's default wallpaper and an alternative one Ubuntu branded, all this installable trough a handy install script, which even lets you choose a custom GNOME main menu icon (4 to choose from: GNOME's foot, Fedora's logo, Ubuntu-Mono and openSUSE).

Oh, have I said that I added Ubuntu-Mono-Dark icons (the monochrome ones!) to the Sonar icon theme and a few other goodies here and there?

All credits go to original theme, wallpaper and icons authors, I just grabbed them, tweaked, removed and added some things, and then I improved my bash skills by writing a horrific install script

Faenza Icons

This icon theme for Gnome provides monochromatic icons for panels, toolbars and buttons and colourful squared icons for devices, applications, folder, files and Gnome menu items. Four themes are included to fit with light or dark themes/panels.

INSTALLATION:
Download the tar.gz file and extract it. In the new folder created, run the ./INSTALL script to choose the distribution logo (Ubuntu, by default) and the Gnome menu icon. If run as root, the script will copy the iconsets to /usr/share/icons to made them available to all users. Some default icons used by Rhythmbox and Dockmanager may be also replaced.
Run ./UNINSTALL as root to restore defaults icons.

Faenza icon theme is available to install for Ubuntu users via a PPA repository. View the README file for instructions and a list of known issues.

TIPS:

Ubuntu 11.10: the Unity panel has a strange behavior with some icons compared with the previous version (and Gnome 2 panels of course), especially with user menu and battery state icons. You might use one of the to new themes instead of the classic ones: Faenza-Ambiance is suitable with dark panel and toolbars (inherits Faenza-Darkest theme), Faenza-Radiance with light panel and controls (inherits Faenza theme).

Some applications are configured to always use the same icon regardless of the selected theme. To display the Faenza icon, edit as root the /usr/share/applications/application_name.desktop file and locate the line beginning with 'Icon='. Replace the fullpath icon name by the one of the Faenza icon (usually, it's the name of the application itself) without the extension.
Don't forget to make a backup before changing one of those files.
E.g. Vim desktop file is /usr/share/applications/gvim.desktop
Some desktop files can be located in /usr/local/share/applications or in your ~/.local/share/applications folder (e.g. Steam desktop file is somewhere in ~/.local/share/applications/wine).
Here is a partial list: emacs23, gcolor2, bluefish, hardinfo, setroubleshoot, gufw, pithos, vim, rssowl, netbeans, gazpacho, guake, all commercial games, etc

If you want to use the new Gnome contact application, edit its desktop file (/usr/share/applications/gnome-contacts.desktop) to use the specific (and beautiful) icon named gnome-contacts

Stock is all from the stockphoto stockxchange and other such sites. I found some more so I thought I would make another set.

I made this brush set in Photoshop 7.

These brushes are for Photoshop 7, I don't know if they can be converted/adapted to any other programs, however please feel free to make a set from these in another program. I ask that you A.) post the set made from these brushes on DA, and credit back to this set.

There are 15 brushes in this set, not counting the credit brush.

Well, here it is, after a good few months quietly brewing I can now say this is ready for public consumption.

This theme includes a GTK (Based on New Wave), a Metacity theme (Based on Nootoo), an Emerald theme (based on Muin2) and the Basic5 ttf font that is what you see on display in the screenshots here.

The Metacity theme is not quite the same as the Emerald one, most notably the corners are rounded and the buttons are quite different.

A huge, huge thanks goes out to Anton Kerezov and lassekongo83 for their outstanding work and their generosity to make their works available under the Creative Commons license, without which this package would never have been possible.

Changes since 1.0:

Modified status bar handle
New Emerald theme. No longer has 'fake' drop shadows, thus shadows from panel and menus are now possible. The one caveat of this is that resizing windows is a slightly more fiddly, but with alt-drag it's no real issue.
Panel background is no longer part of the theme, instead panel backgrounds are provided separately and can be applied as desired; this also fixes the issue of the pixmap not lining up perfectly and panels of different heights (22, 24, 32, 40 and 48 pixels) are provided.
White Ubuntu menu icon is provided too, since a few people asked about it last time.

Fix for black-on-black text with Firefox' menu bar:

/chrome, then restart the browser.
