Meeeeeh... it's not completely gross, is it? I mean her body is pointlesly muscular; the first drawing I made felt so lifeless and flat so I decided to go with a bit looser lines and realised what she looked like only after I had started painting. Don't get me wrong, she was supposed to look muscular from the beginning, just not to have Chris Redfield biceps... I know there is an audience who prefers women like this though. Also her face look quite creepy, that staring and no proper expression... ugh.... Also should have given her blue cape, it just felt that I modified her looks so much that she needed something similiar to original costume (you might not have noticed but I removed that stupid boob window and replaced it with a blue white superman logo).

I might end up taking this down or adjusting it heavily, her face especially... If I have the time or energy or I'm not so embarassed thet I'll never enter Deviantart again.

"Toph and Korra showing up their bodies in tight gym shorts and bras as if they're competing with one another. I want you to have Korra to have a body that's rivals Toph's."

I took a couple of liberties. First I rendered Toph's backside because I haven't done it all that much, I imagine her backside to be as nice as her frontside, back muscles are really interesting, I'm getting tired of rendering her front side and it plays to the whole blindness thing.

Next, I wanted Korra to look directly at the viewer as if to ask "what do you think?"

Finally, even though their bodies are comparable, I didn't want them to have the exact same body type. I like the idea of Toph being somewhat short in comparison to Korra.

Oh, and I've started experimenting with introducing line in to my work. Mainly because of some work that I've seen around recently where linework seemed to be added after the fact to make things coherent. Adding linework where its needed, instead of everywhere seems like something I can do. I do worry about the form flattening out though. ]]>

I'd almost forgotten that I did this. I found it on my hard drive as I was cleaning out some old files I didn't need any more. It was originally created to celebrate my 500,000 pageview; once again, though, my ambitions got the better of me:

I had intended this to be a longer animation. After a few reps, our view would move out to a long shot that would reveal that Tetsuko is standing on a tall platform. The chains would be attached to tall stacks of huge iron plates 20 feet tall (why she'd be standing on the tall platform); she'd be curling some 20 tons with each arm!

Unfortunately, problems of scale became apparent. The range of motion the pulleys travel is only about a foot (maybe a foot and a half), which means the 20-foot weight stacks get lifted only that far off the ground. Not as impressive a visual as I'd hoped for.

However, when I came across this earlier this evening, I decided (since this sequence was largely finished) that I'd go ahead and clean up some of the art, tweak the movement a bit, and share it with all of you. (And who knows; I may include this - with the gargantuan weights - in the 2 million animation.)

This Wonder Woman has different powers and equipment compared to the Diana we know, but her personality is still pretty close to the usual. The basics are that she got her powers and magical gear as gifts and blessings from the Dodekatheon, the 12 main gods of Olympus (Well...actually, Ares refused, so they Invited a former member of the group, Hestia, to fill in)

About the technical stuff:

This is the biggest picture I've drawn so far (my poor old notebook nearly couldn't handle it XD Download for full size) and I'm pretty satisfied with it, despite several things I still have to improve.

This style is quite outside my comfort zone, as I usually draw more "cartoony" stuff, and it has taken me FOREVER to finish this one.

I'm getting decent at drawing metals in this style, but some of the highlights and shading ended up a little strange considering my implied light sources.

Skin is my big problem here, though. There is considerable improvement compared to the picture of Aquaman I drew (not in small part due to great brush set I found), but I'm still having a hard time painting the skin and finding the right balance between just colors and lineart.

I like the way the hair ended up, but it doesn't quite fit the overall style of the piece.

Still, all things considered, it is a good step forward to learning a semi-realistic drawing style.

TOOLS: Lineart done in Paint Tool Sai, colors in Photoshop. All with the help of my Genius tablet.

We're about to finish the year, you feel the onset of autumn ... going very fast this 2012, like it was yesterday when I decided to work hard here in my gallery and make many new drawings. But there are still goals to achieve and even more work, so we must move forward.

Yesterday did not see any movie, again I was playing Age of Empires 2, but also began to see the Batman animated series of the 90's.

Would like to see a new set of succubi? or draw a comic book heroines and villains? or a Disney Princess? or a video game girls? ]]>
