"Amanita muscaria, commonly called fly agaric or less often fly mushroom, is a basidiomycete mushroom of the genus Amanita.

The original white-spotted red toadstool, it is one of the most recognizable mushrooms and is widely encountered in popular culture. Though it is generally considered poisonous, Amanita muscaria is otherwise famed for its hallucinogenic properties, which had a religious significance in Siberian culture and possibly ancient India and Scandinavia. Since mediaeval times it has been used as an insecticide, from where it derives its name.

The common names in English, fly agaric, and German, Fliegenpilz, come from its European use as an insecticide, sprinkled in milk. This practice was first recorded by Albertus Magnus in his work De vegetabilibus sometime before 1256, commenting:

Finally, the genus Amanita series is done. This one actually had more planning involved; the only linework I kept was for the mound of dead flies submerged in milk. Yes, that's milk.

Uhhhh... I don't know what else to say about it, really, other than GOD THIS TOOK FOREVER TO DO. I had actually started this before the holiday season. But I had to take a time-out to do the cards, and whatnot.

I do know that my sister really likes the mushroom in the tank.

And you know what? SO DO I.

I've added close-ups for this. Because if you can't appreciate the subject matter, I'd hope that you could at least appreciate the work I put into it. Taking something from 300 dpi and killing it to 100 dpi really puts a damper on the whole presentation.

I'm really kinda disappointed with the genitalia comments, to be honest. I made a joke out of it simply because it's such a minute detail within the painting, and I didn't really want the admins to hunt me down for said minute detail. But whatever.

girls comic thing.
I was thinking of those old shonen jump issues I used to
get at the japanese grocery store when I was a kid a gazillion years ago.
The first couple pages had 2 tone red oranges on em it was a cool look.
I dunno if they still do that I havent been all into that since the 80's
I remember one issue had a guy that looked just like richard greeko (from the 21 jump street
Booker spin off) he could change what he looked like by passing his hand over his face or something

Got a new sketchbook the other day... this one is different than any other I've used because it's formatted horizontally, with the binding along the short edge of the 8x11 page. The paper's got a slightly rougher tooth than I realized, which I'm moderately annoyed by if only because it devours pencil lead and makes it a serious pain to keep a fine line, but I got the book for nothin' so I'm not really complaining.

At any rate, I think that having the book encourage wide rather than tall design might be a good thing. After all, TVs are wide... computer screens are wide... I wonder why not very many artists choose to do a webcomic at the 4:3 aspect rather than the 3:5, except that perhaps they're always thinking ahead to the print edition. Then again, there's no rule that says a trade paperback of webcomics has to follow the usual conventions... they just do that for ease of shelving.

I did this for a computer notebook contest, but I'm not saying anything else until it closes, I don't want any more people better than me to enter.... I'm mean. it's cropped shitty, and this is a jpeg of the illustrator file, AND one of the flowers was highlighted when i took the screenshot. I'm dumb, and this is probably gonna be taken down, but I swear the original file IS vector, I'm just lazy. anyhoo, this took me about two weeks of procrastination and maybe ten to fifteen actual work hours. I don't usually work with vectors, so it took a while for me to remember how stuff worked.

and yes, I like the idea of robots picking flowers, it's like the manmade with natural...thing...er...yeah.
