Started painting this strange Kirin/Hippocamp thing in 2010. It was a doodle that was heavily inspired by !Azrael-Nekhbet (who unfortunately deactivated her account -a shame, because her work was AMAZING). I was never satisfied with how it looked so I just kept painting in the hope at some point it was going to look good. It didn't. It was such a jumbled mess, the anatomy was all off and oh god the colours...*shudder*

So yesterday I looked at it again and cringed. I did however remember how I had painstakingly painted every single one of those scales by hand so it felt like such a waste to just let it rot somewhere on my harddisc for all of eternity. I decided I wanted to try and salvage it.

I stripped it of its colours, inverted it, threw on a fresco filter, painted in a few scales (since I hadn't actually gotten to doing the legs before), threw in a photo filter for a bit of colour, fixed it up here and there via liquify and then called it a day. In other words I just completely butchered it. And I think it's better like this :'D (As seen here: [link])

So don't worry, I'm haven't changed my style or anything, this sort of just 'happened' and I couldn't leave it alone, haha. I'm not quite sure what to think of it myself either.

P.S. Is anyone at all interested to see some of the paintings/WIP's I never finished that I have lying around? I was thinking about uploading them to my scraps. Then again I'm not sure if I'll ever be getting back to them like I did with this one. Plus I just hate spamming people's inboxes.

This week's homework from drawing class: the arm muscles of the human anatomy, now color-coded for your viewing convenience.

There is sadly no easy way out of getting anatomy down pat besides copying, copying, practicing, and copying diagrams again and again until it sticks. The arm in particular was a nightmare because of how the muscles often intertwine with each other, and some are buried underneath and barely visible at all. On the flip-side it should be easier to design the mechanical arm of one certain, blue character of mine.

I don't particularly consider this "art", but I thought I'd upload it anyway for those who might find it useful. These are copied from photocopies our teacher handed us, which came from some obscure anatomy book he didn't give us the name to. I'll try to find it out for those who are interested. I recommend getting your hands on a good human anatomy book if you really want to get good at it, and not to use these sketches. This is already a second-hand source from a second-hand source, and probably nowhere near as accurate as a professional's diagrams on account of how bad the photocopies were.

This unique hand sculpted Posable Fantasy Prehistoric Tundra Stag is a one of a kind piece of art work being offered up for bid!
He is FULLY POSEABLE! This is a completely hand made fantasy creature.

I hand sculpted the head and cloven hooves onto a posable frame that is wrapped in stuffing. I then hand paint the clay in Acrylic paints. The synthetic fur I hand dye. The antlers are a type of resin and not made by me to insure that they are not fragile. There is not another creature like this in the world!

I do not use molds, casts or patterns, each is fully hand made and original.


The Fantasy Prehistoric Tundra Stag is approximately 22 inches long including tail and 17 inches high including antlers.

I sign each one on the side of the foot, back of the ear or under the jaw.

For my visual narratives class we had to make a five page comic that told the story/a story of a famous person's life. For a complete lesson, just watch some Miyazaki haha. Other than the obvious wonderful designs, I love how he handles children because he takes them really seriously. He knows that being a kid is rough and they feel things very intensely and truly, and it sucks when adults brush off their triumphs and trials as small potatoes, which we tend to do because we think our problems are more important. But I think children feel much more deeply than adults do, meaning they have the capacity to be much happier, and much sadder. Miyazaki is able to capture that whole spectrum.

Wow listen to me go haha anyway Happy New Year guys. I can't wait to bring it in painting!

Here is the seemingly much anticipated Blastoise. He was always my least favorite of the original three starters, but I'll take him over Swampert any day. The big challenger with a more realistic take on Blastoise is of course, his cannons. After spending some time researching animals that use projectiles, a squid's jet really seem to fit the idea. Blastoise is supposed to be able to aim his cannons and fire water jets to propel himself in a direction, very much like a real life squid. So he intakes large supplies of water through his mouth and stores it in a specialized organ in his chest under the shell. Blastoise primarily eats shellfish, earning his nickname as the shellfish Pokemon, he holds onto a Shellder in this case and blasts water to help him pull it off its rocky home. Squirtles start out primarily aquatic and as they grow they eventually become semi terrestrial and lose their developed swimming tail in favor for a heavier counterweight tail. Wartortles spend much of their time drifting motionlessly after meals to facilitate the tremendous growth, sometimes for months. As a result coral sea fans often take root on them, especially on their head. Also, Krabby is a dick, look at him, being an ass.

First of (currently) 8 roughly same-size speedpaints, done for color practice. It was a bit frustration in the beginning stages (trying to fit the Idol and the creek on the canvas) but otherwise very enjoyable -especially because it's a nice break from the endless fur-painting in my last pieces xD
Maybe I'll do some other scenes from the game, it's so inspirational. c:

Also check out the painting from last year! I'm a sucker for redos -and not even sorry.

Out of the four-person main cast, this fine gentleman is, in fact, the least important, but I don't give a damn because I like drawing him.

Actually I should start giving a damn, but maybe I'll do that starting tomorrow. Yeah. That sounds like a plan.
