Fort Napoleon Maart 2013 Jangojim Ladda 10 Edit

The enthusiast folks of Ladda from Ghent asked me again to contribute in a cool group show at Fort Napoleon (an actual remaining fort of Napoleon) at the seaside of Belgium. 7 artists had to make a large pin board installation with doodles, sketches, ideas, inspiration and art from others, etc to visualize who they are. In times of digital pin boards like Pinterest or Facebook this is a nice reminder how fun a real pin board can be.

afterwards an amazing performance of Japanese underground band DEGURUTIENI that sound a bit like Tom Waits in Japanese.

YAY! IT'S OC TIME! i'm still cheering myself after ME3 ending. this and 's fanfic made me create some OCs

so here goes:
Rani and Jeela are best friends. They're pretty much inseparable - anywhere they go, they go together and they are even together on the Pilgrimige. They're a pair of geek girls (even though all quarians are considered to be geeky) who like to play Galaxy of Fantasy, talk about boys and hang out at the shopping districts in Citadel's Wards.

Rani is a short, chubby quarian. Her hobby is writing VI programs for companion drones. She also has her own companion drone - Kiki. Rani is a very kindhearted but rather shy person. She won't admit it even to Jeela but she has a soft spot for turians.

Jeela is very skinny and sometimes tends to slouch. She is more extrovert and resolute than Rani but she is also the first one to complain about things. Cynical and a bit lazy. Jeela is skilled in repairing and calibrating (lol i bet u think what i think *high five*) smaller engines, like the ones in skycars.

I actually started this piece way back in May for a class assignment, but at the time I didn't have time to really complete it to my satisfaction. Since I'll be offering it as a print at GenCon next week, as well as in my shop after that, I set some time aside the other day to finish it up!

Our extremely aggressive and hilarious goldfish, Pinky, aka Bullyfish, passed away last night and I am sad. She was sick, though, so Im glad shes not suffering anymore.

The Ouroburous series ended some time ago, and it needed to at the time (but shouldn't have in the abstract, since I never handled that series very well and it was an idea that will likely never fully exit out of my system).

As an interim step, I am working with the theme again, but this time under a different name, and to a possibly different end (and new beginning).

This was sketched during the Carroll County Empty Bowls 2013 event and finished in the studio. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser for the soup kitchen where all proceeds go towards feeding the hungry. This year I helped man the silent auction table and sketched this in between answering questions and assisting where needed.
Subtractive method applied here.

This is octoboy!
His head was part of a porcelain figurine (of a sweet little cherub boy with an accidental GASH in his cheek) and the rest is made of Super Sculpey.
Painted with acrylic model paints.
I'm really pleased with the way he came out, though kind of disappointed he seems a bit emo... ha!
But I am pleased with his look just the same.. I am no blending queen so this took some doing!

I was a late comer to 'Hellblazer'. I got introduced to that comic in my first year of college, I can't remember what the conversation was, but I knew I was drawing trees. My Kryptonite, I hate drawing trees.
My art teacher said "Have you heard of Hellblazer?"
I said "Hellraiser?"
"No, Hell-blazer. You'd like the covers, look at the ones by Dave McKean"

It turns out my art teacher was friends with Glenn Fabry, who I'm not a fan of really, but he has done some great covers. That's when I first heard of McKean too.

John Constantine, to me is the typical British comic creation, more so than Dredd. Unlike the majority of the US characters, he is slightly seedy and has a darkness ingrained into it. I always liked that he aged in real time too.

Anyway, Hellblazer is gone and Constantine is now a part of the DC universe, so hopefully we'll see the Superman team-up that everyone wants.

Also someone needs to make a proper film, or HBO TV series with Paul Bettany as Constantine. You know it makes sense.

Anyway, this is just a quick sketch that I kind of lost interest in, and finished up yesterday. It went too Doctor Who, plus it is too stiff-a-drawing. I thought I should upload it anyway.
