1. The buyer wanted me to re-create this classic X-men cover.

2. I drew digital roughs in Photoshop using my Cintiq 21UX.

3. I printed out the roughs and transferred them to comic art board using a lightbox. Then I inked the final pencils with Micron pens.

4. I scanned the line art into Photoshop CS4. Then I painted in the color flats and also colored the line art to match the flats, which gives the characters a softer, cel animation look.

5. Then I worked on the background colors and text work.

6. Finally I shaded the characters, added textures and effects and added a number of color overlays to set a "mother color" for the piece that unifies the colors below.
