After I completed the head I started on the body and I got very lazy because I wasn't really sure how to colour him properly. Perhaps someday the shame will become too much and I'll do it properly. ]]>

I remember playing this as a kid and it became one of my favorites because of the whole idea of a kid flying through space and stuff.

I want to put him in a background but I'm not sure where I want him to be. I thought maybe an alien like city, but then I thought it would be closer to the them of the game if I put him out on some barren gray planet.

Wherever I put him it must be in an environment with blue ambient light at night, because that's how he's colored. Otherwise I would have to change the colors around completely.

Inkscape is a truly awesome little program. I do suggest you try it out. Hopefully this tutorial will help ease up the learning curve a bit without forcing you to read the whole manual first. While it might seem complicated at times, once you get used to it the workflow becomes extremely smooth.

I originally wanted to somehow base the girl off some Inkscape theme, but didn't in the end save for adopting a dark+light color scheme. Ah well.

To those of you who can program, free drawing for anyone who implements one of the following into the current SVN:
- a perspective grid
- this feature here
- or some derivative of the "mask" function that basically works like masks except it leaves all areas outside the selection as Opaque, not invisible. Have it code an object that turns otherwise transparent areas into opaque white, or something, without forcing me to cover the whole picture up first manually. I want my easy editable (and visible! I don't want to have to cover the whole thing up first) holes! >: O

Any suck...err... any takers?!?! XP (warning: don't expect a Leonardo Da Vinci)

So this one time, Gemma was telling me about an idea she'd had for an image, and I really liked it, so I asked if I could draw it...

In case you need help reading the image: it's a tiger (Chinese astrology) trapped in a cage which is too small, on a stormy sea, failing to catch the mocking Pisces-fish.

Update:
I scrapped the original, inked a new version then did this vectorization and decided I liked it best amongst the three. Thanks for the nice comments on the first one that motivated me to go back and redo it from scratch to make it better.

As always, 100% drawn in Inkscape, except for the (second) original pencil sketch it is based on. ]]>

I'm really happy with how this turned out. I've been wanting to produce an illustration that looked like traditional comic book colouring but with vectors only.

I original thought something like this would be really complicated, involving blends and gradient meshes but this drawing only involved layering radial gradients.
